I think there is also a native language preference here. Hindi audience will
primarily appreciate Dil Se more, the influences being the sufiana music and
the
exquisite lyrics. Chayya Chayya's lyrics just accentuate the music too.
Kandukondein and Alaipayuthey were natively done in Tamil with a lot of songs
with carnatic classical feel also. This might explain why one set of audience
identifies more with one body of work than the other. I am NOT saying the
tamilians will like the tamil songs and the hindi guys will like Dil se, but
there will be a preferred identification one or the other for many people (not
all).

In some sense my basic point is that KK and Dil Se are not really comparable.
They both have a unique flavor and are unique pieces of work. Just because of
the common point being Mani Ratnam, I do not think we should rank them on the
same scale.

Re: [arr] VTV Title song and Emmerson Lake and Palmer

2010-07-07 Thread ravi

In my 2 cents of analyzing
Dilse is the best in sound design, mixing and engineering and KK had the best
classical compilations ranging from Carnatic to Western.
Kannamoochi, Enge yenadu kavitai had explored Indian classics
while Kandukondein Kandukondein & Smile had graced the Western classics like no
other.
Yenna solla pogiraayi had elements of fusion with mid east blending with an
Indian classic.
KK stands as a perfect example of the Genius by AR. Whenever you come across
people whine that he isn't a great composer. make them listen to KK and check
their brilliance in classics and challenge if they have anytime found a MD who
has done this kind of an album.

I did not feel any similarity. But, I can understand your american friend who
has grown up with that music will find it very easy to identify. We all try to
identify new things with something we already know. At the most, they are
similar genre.

In one of the comments in youtube, they say it has a very brazilian feel to the
music. So, I guess the search will always be on.

AJ, and thanks for letting us know about ELP.. i just head few tracks of them
in YouTube. The Endless Enigma 1 and 2 are really awesome. also the Sheriff
song :) I just discovered some great music.

The guitar strumming in VTV song is somewhat reminiscent of "From the
beginning". Just the feel though.. not the tune. That too is classy stuff.

Gotta get some of their songs.

what??? Omana Penne??? IMO it is the BEST song of the album. THE BEST. VTV
would be an incomplete film without Omana Penne. replacing it would be the
biggest disaster in ARR remake history.

This is possibly a rumour. VTV ka Hindi title be finalize nahi hua hai. Then
how can the lyrics be written? How can the singers be finalized so fast? How
can ARR record all the songs so fast under this busy schedule (Jai Ho tour,
PULI's RR, Endhiran's RR etc) ?? That too with 2 new songs composed.
Definitely this is a rumour.

Friends, dont get fooled by such articles. Iam sure, Gopal will confirm
this.

'VTV' Hindi songs readyIndiaGlitz [Monday, June 14, 2010]Gautham Menon's poetic
love story ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' recently completed one hundred days and is
still running. Meanwhile Gautham is also ready to start the Hindi version of

One major change for the Hindi version is the songs. A R Rahman has composed
two new tunes for the Hindi version. Of the two one will be a duet and the
other will be a solo song for the hero. Tamil ‘VTV’ had seven songs and Hindi
will have eight.
A R Rahman had delivered the new tunes to Gautham before leaving on his Jai Ho

Chennai to enable the creative team to work on their digital story
boards.Trisha will play Jessie even in the Hindi version while Raj Babbar's son

i cant comment on the audio sales, but buy going the popularity of callertunes
here in Malaysia, Paiyya scores way higher than VTV.

If the page shows something else, click Kollywood and then click the tab TOP.

Gautham Menon's latest release*Vinnaithaandi**Varuvaayaa*will complete 100
days run in theatres on Saturday. The movie brings back to theatres the
genre of love stories, something we have not seen on screens for quite some
time.

This bilingual, starring Simbu-Trisha in Tamil and Naga Chaitanya-Samantha
in Telugu, is indeed a memorable experience for its beautiful camerawork by
Manoj Paramahamsa and soul-stirring music by A.R. Rahman. A Red Giant Movies
presentation, the movie is produced by Escape Artistes Motions Pictures and
R.S. Infotainment.

*VTV*, which released on February 26, 2010, has different climaxes in Tamil
and Telugu. The Telugu version, titled *Yemaya Chesave*, ends on a happy
note while the Tamil version has a surprise ending with some twist and
turns.

When asked about his film with Ajith for Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine,

Hi Kishore,
I read your earlier post saying that there were no hindi VTV or Kaakha
Kaakha as per the information given by Gautham Menon's assistant:

"By the way, VTV HINDI REMAKE news is just a rumour. I spoke to Gautham's
assistant recently. It is not going to happen! Kaakha Kaakha remake with John
Abraham is also a rumour!"

But on may 11th, harris jayaraj tweeted that he has come back from the
composing session of hindi Kaakha Kaakha(Directed by Nishikant Kamath and

Gautham Menon's assistant would have probably meant that Gautham won't be
directing those films.

due to VTV music only, though raavan's music is outstanding. Many people

impact VTV music has made on us. Thanks AR & special thanks to Gautham &

wow man to me the film has given an altogether new life to the music/songs and
they have topped Raavan on my playlist. amazing. especially Mannipaaya and
Kannukkul Kannai have got a new meaning, as now they can be related to the
story and characters. wondering how amazingly a well-made film can give a true
meaning to its music.

Brother..Check internet archives... Gautham was not at all satisfied with
RHTDM; even the heroine selection was not his..He wanted to stop the
shooting in the middle of the movie..But couldnt afford to..He completed the
movie, being completely dissatisfied. Even today, he speaks about that sour
experience from Bollywood. Thereafter, he was VERY doubtful, if he would do
another Hindi film in his career. But sources say that if he does one again,
he would really think before it. If u ask Gautham about RHTDM, he would give
u a disappointed reply any time.

[arr] VTV Hindi remake: Additional song??

2010-05-07 Thread Jahanzeb
Watched VTV the other night (with English subtitles as I don't know Tamil) and
liked it very much. entertaining and well made. superb BGM, superb song
picturization, first class acting (especially liked Simbu's very much) and a
pretty good script. watched a good love story after very long time. though i
found the second half much weaker than first. the way the film started (the
first 1 hour maybe) i was already expecting too much though as soon as that
unnecessary rift between Karthik and Jessie's brother came, the script lost its
hold and there were many others flaws later as well. also i really wish GM had
gone for happy ending like the Telugu version. the ending was a shocker. but
overall i still liked it very much.
i really wish ARR does more of GM songs as he does real justice to ARR's songs
as far as picturization is concerned. btw Wikipedia page says ARR is doing GM's
next two films. is this information authentic?? i really hope.

i was just wondering if the Hindi remake news is authentic or not. any update
regarding that? i really look forward to seeing it again in Hindi. and the
following link even says ARR will be composing an additional song for the
remake. anyone on that? this would mean it gonna have 8 songs. wow..

[arr] VTV & Raavan @ Cannes Festival on May 14

2010-05-02 Thread raamkumar vaidyanathan

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavanan’ is releasing on June 18 worldwide. Post production
works are being done to perfection and A R Rahman is busy completing the
re-recording work.Meanwhile Mani is also preparing to screen ‘Raavan’ at the
Cannes Festival on May 14. Another Tamil film that will accompany ‘Raavan’ at
the Cannes is Gautham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’. We hear a list of people
associated with these two films are attending the festival. Mani Ratnam.
Gautham Menon, Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa are joined by the cast of
‘Raavan’ Abhishek, Aishwarya and Vikram.Another important thing that is running
in the mind of Mani Ratnam is the promotional tour for ‘Raavanan’. His decision
hangs in balance because he in two minds whether to take his film to IIFA
Festival happening in Colombo in the first week of June. If Mani decides to
skip the Sri Lanka program then he will start the promo tour as early as in the
last week of May
 itself.http://rahman360.com/?p=1398Regards, Ram..       ~  Rαнмαη αddicт™  ~

I would say, after long time ARR has got a pure script based on love and
every thing was perfect in that movie. So it all came out good and this made
the album a Big hit.

So me too put VTV in Loop evrytime I travle to office and back home !

When listening to VTV sometimes getting so impatient thinking when it will
be finished and I should jump on Raavan...

Again... listening to Raavan in the midway...I start Aromale or sometimes
Dil Gira Dafatan (delhi 6)...

Raavan, VTV and Delhi 6.. long way to go long time needed to

I must agree that whenever you tune yourself with VTV, it's a brand new
start all the way. By the end of the album it's a, beginning of an end of a
spectacular musical adventure, even to this very moment VTV just lives up
to expectations. It feel's like a fresh breath of air, every time I listen
to it :). I just wish the combo retains this way, to offer us many more
musical treat in future .

VTV is a masterpiece..my favs are Omanna Penne, VTV title song, Hosanna,
and Aaromale. The others songs are good too, but those 4 of my favorites above
are masterpieces IMO.

Omanna Penne touches my heart so muchI don't know what it is about that
song...maybe the Nadaswaram, the way it's played, or the chords ARR uses, but
something about that song touches me deep within.it's a very, very

And of course, what more can be said about Aaromale? Through and through

VTV is sheer perfection. when i heard the BGMs recently, i was spell bound
with them. fantastic. entire music creation of VTV is beautiful. well done.
having said that, bearing in mind that national awards are almost always
unpredictable, i wud be surprised if there is atleast a jury member who is
cognizant enough to recognize the brilliance of ARRs music in VTV. however,
i think Aaromale song and Alphons cud b a strong contenders.

[arr] VTV & National Awards// Sharing my thoughts

2010-04-25 Thread dreamspringmelodies
ARR seems to have raised the quality and standard of background scoring to a
very high level with VTV. I did feel the same when I was watching the movie
Guru [Hindi]. Hope we can expect a couple of awards for BG scoring of this
movie, esp. the national awards.

I also felt Aromalle song is the essence of the movie and without it; the movie
[the script] is not complete. Hope this song gets best song and best singer
awards for this year

what do you guys think ?

VTV is a very special album for me too, despite me not knowing a word of Tamil.
There is something quite spiritual about this album that I can't really
describe further. There's a very nice range of music and the sound quality is
crisp and top notch. The orchestration is beautiful and even the faster, techno
numbers are intelligently created with exceptional rhythm and crafty
arrangements.

Man oh man...VTV, D6, CR, Blue, Jaane Tu, Yuvvraaj, Ada, Jodha Akbar.it
simply doesn't get any better.

I COMPLETELY agree with u!...VTV is one of those big artistic evolutions in
ARR's career...like each of the songs sound entirely different from each other
and completely different from anything he has composedit is undoubtedly his
best album since Kangalal Kaithu Sei in 2003!...i am so satisfied with VTV that
i am not even worried about when Ravana is relasing!

ARR-VM combo is no doubt the best. ARR music best suits for VM words. I never
found any songs of ARR without VM sounded as beautiful as ARR and VM and VM
words never sounded sweeter without ARR. They go together so well. :)

A classic example is Roja.

Re: [arr] VTV Lyrics, Thamarai and Vairamuthu !!

2010-03-19 Thread Srini Santhanam
I recall Simbu mention during his interview in coffee with Anu that he
prefers the lyrics of the songs to be in a casual language and not in
proper films. His view was that when the characters speak normal Tamil
why should the songs alone have poetic verses.

So I guess Thamarai just delivered what she was asked to do. Film
music is not just about showing off your brilliance in every song but
also giving what the movie and the creative team demands. I too agree
that it's difficult to write lyrics for ARs compositions and Thamarai
has done a decent job in this movie.

On a related topic, I watched the movie with english subtitles and
Hosanna was translated as 'Praise be to Love'.

PS: My response to Simbu's logic would be that if films have to be
natural, you shouldn't be having songs et all :)

Srini

Her lyrics might not have been poetically inclined, but as Srinivasa
rightly pointed out, they fitted the film like a T. In fact, I
humbly believe that the lyrics have done more than captured the
essence of the film.

Frankly speaking, the film didn't work wonders for me. But the
characters did. I think Karthik and especially Jesse are the most
complex and at the same time uncomplicated characters ever
introduced in tamil film industry. They believe in what they want
and they're direct and frank with their feelings...yet, they choose
to live in dilemma. This spells out the exact position of many
youths of today. And with characters woven in such a manner, the
lyrics have to be written in the similar way- forthright and candid!
And that's exactly what Thamarai did and that's where she scored.

On the other hand, there can never be another Vairamuthu, as there
can never be another Kannadasan, Vaali, Thamarai, Pa. Vijay etc. I
strongly believe that each and every artist have their capabilities
and limitations and to compare them with another is not only
impractical but preposterous too.

Re: [arr] VTV Lyrics, Thamarai and Vairamuthu !!

2010-03-19 Thread jayram
One good thing with Thamarai's lyrics is that they are sans vulgars words, and
written generally with clean tamil words. She has definitely brought some fresh
thoughts into Tamil songs with her perspective. I also appreciated her lyrics
in "Kakka Kakka" or "Varanam Aayiram". These all are commendable.

My personal opinion is that her VTV lyrics is pretty ordinary (walk as your
shadow behind, dream about you with open eyes, stole my eyes, cannot forget you
etc). She can definitely do much much better.

On the other hand ARR's sir music has got really complicated these days, and
its a BIG BIG challenge for lyrics writers to do their best.
