Re: [arr] VTV Title song and Emmerson Lake and Palmer
In my 2 cents of analyzing Dilse is the best in sound design, mixing and engineering and KK had the best classical compilations ranging from Carnatic to Western. Kannamoochi, Enge yenadu kavitai had explored Indian classics while Kandukondein Kandukondein Smile had graced the Western classics like no other. Yenna solla pogiraayi had elements of fusion with mid east blending with an Indian classic. KK stands as a perfect example of the Genius by AR. Whenever you come across people whine that he isn't a great composer. make them listen to KK and check their brilliance in classics and challenge if they have anytime found a MD who has done this kind of an album. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Taimur Nadeem taimur.nad...@... wrote: i may not be agreeing this time , no doubt KK is a beautiful album but DIL SE is far superior stuff and even better than THE MUSIC of other movies of MANI RATNAM. i mean just look at the imagination of each and every song of dil se its breath taking guys, for me super class . the sound of dil se is universal , i personally think this album made A R RAHMAN the king of music. the popularity of the album still not fading away a bit after 12years now.  but thanks KISHORE for elaborating your point and dinesh for your all courteous and affirmative reply. regards, taimur --- On Sun, 7/4/10, AJ purev...@... wrote: From: AJ purev...@... Re: [arr] VTV Title song and Emmerson Lake and Palmer
The speciality of Rahman unlike other artists is that, he maintains 100% originality! There is never a compromise on that! In his 18 year long career, he had always maintained that. Oflately, Rahman has been very busy with lots of projects, and did not have time to concentrate on some films. Even then, he never took this as an excuse and copied tunes, like even, many legends had done in the past. Maybe, some of his tunes were criticized for not reaching his standards...But eventhen, all of them were completely original. There is never a compromise on that! In his 18 year long career, he had always maintained that. Oflately, Rahman has been very busy with lots of projects, and did not have time to concentrate on some films. Even then, he never took this as an excuse and copied tunes, like even, many legends had done in the past. Maybe, some of his tunes were criticized for not reaching his standards... But eventhen, all of them were completely original. An American friend of mine heard VTV title song and Emmerson Lake and Palmer just came out of him. There's a song or 2 by ELP that is kind of in the same mould (From the Beginning is the name I think) as the VTV title song...nothing copied at all, just along the same lines in terms of ambiance and acoustic flavor and style, perhaps similar to how Aaromale takes a page out of Pink Floyd. I think there are other songs too kind of like this one. I love Rahman that he takes us back to classic stuff from the 70s and 80s so tastefully, but never at all lifting material, but using similar sound and style templates from that era of great music (Kabhi Aditi is another example of a late 1970s and early 80s Western pop sound). VTV title song always reminded me of a classic, soft rock acoustic number from the 70s, but I could never figure out who until my friend heard it and reminded me of ELP's music. -- --- http://roshanravi.com http://ramblingsoul.com http://cssheaven.org

How can ARR record all the songs so fast under this busy schedule (Jai Ho tour, PULI's RR, Endhiran's RR etc) ?? That too with 2 new songs composed. Definitely this is a rumour. Re: [arr] VTV Hindi remake: Additional song??
Brother..Check internet archives... Gautham was not at all satisfied with RHTDM; even the heroine selection was not his..He wanted to stop the shooting in the middle of the movie..But couldnt afford to..He completed the movie, being completely dissatisfied. Even today, he speaks about that sour experience from Bollywood. Thereafter, he was VERY doubtful, if he would do another Hindi film in his career. Omanna Penne touches my heart so muchI don't know what it is about that song...maybe the Nadaswaram, the way it's played, or the chords ARR uses, but something about that song touches me deep within.it's a very, very spiritual song... By the end of the album it's a, beginning of an end of a spectacular musical adventure, even to this very moment VTV just lives up to expectations. VTV is sheer perfection. when i heard the BGMs recently, i was spell bound with them. fantastic. entire music creation of VTV is beautiful. well done. having said that, bearing in mind that national awards are almost always unpredictable, i wud be surprised if there is atleast a jury member who is cognizant enough to recognize the brilliance of ARRs music in VTV. however, i think Aaromale song and Alphons cud b a strong contenders. Re: [arr] VTV Lyrics, Thamarai and Vairamuthu !!
I am of the opinion that VM and Vaali are the best Lyricist A R R has worked with in tamil. VM- A R R - Manirathnam songs are anyday special, every song of this combination becomes a evergreen hit, also VM- A R R - bharathiraja's .I think the director plays a very important role in extracting work form a lyricist, more than the tunes. When the song has to express strong emotions, i would prefer VM and when the song has to be a peppy one just for the moment Vaali rocks with his mischievous lyrics. Eagerly waiting for Ravanan, and also enthiran, VM had recently read few words out of the song, which are good. -- Truth is the only God Humanity is the only Religion Love is the only prayer

Personally, I feel that Thamarai has done a commendable job in VTV. It's never easy to write the lyrics for ARR's compositions and yet she has managed came out with flying colours. Her lyrics might not have been poetically inclined, but as Srinivasa rightly pointed out, they fitted the film like a T. In fact, I humbly believe that the lyrics have done more than captured the essence of the film. Frankly speaking, the film didn't work wonders for me. But the characters did. I think Karthik and especially Jesse are the most complex and at the same time uncomplicated characters ever introduced in tamil film industry. They believe in what they want and they're direct and frank with their feelings...yet, they choose to live in dilemma. This spells out the exact position of many youths of today. And with characters woven in such a manner, the lyrics have to be written in the similar way- forthright and candid! And that's exactly what Thamarai did and that's where she scored. On the other hand, there can never be another Vairamuthu, as there can never be another Kannadasan, Vaali, Thamarai, Pa. Vijay etc. I strongly believe that each and every artist have their capabilities and limitations and to compare them with another is not only impractical but preposterous too. Re: [arr] VTV Lyrics, Thamarai and Vairamuthu !!
One good thing with Thamarai's lyrics is that they are sans vulgars words, and written generally with clean tamil words. She has definitely brought some fresh thoughts into Tamil songs with her perspective. I also appreciated her lyrics in Kakka Kakka or Varanam Aayiram. These all are commendable. My personal opinion is that her VTV lyrics is pretty ordinary (walk as your shadow behind, dream about you with open eyes, stole my eyes, cannot forget you etc). She can definitely do much much better. On the other hand ARR's sir music has got really complicated these days, and its a BIG BIG challenge for lyrics writers to do their best. Re: [arr] VTV Lyrics, Thamarai and Vairamuthu !!
I recall Simbu mention during his interview in coffee with Anu that he prefers the lyrics of the songs to be in a casual language and not in proper films. His view was that when the characters speak normal Tamil why should the songs alone have poetic verses. So I guess Thamarai just delivered what she was asked to do. Film music is not just about showing off your brilliance in every song but also giving what the movie and the creative team demands. I too agree that it's difficult to write lyrics for ARs compositions and Thamarai has done a decent job in this movie. On a related topic, I watched the movie with english subtitles and Hosanna was translated as 'Praise be to Love'. PS: My response to Simbu's logic would be that if films have to be natural, you shouldn't be having songs et all :) __ Cheers, Srini http://vacantstands.blogspot.com/ On 19-Mar-2010, at 2:41 PM, Gayathri Chandrakasan gayathri_c...@yahoo.com wrote: Personally, I feel that Thamarai has done a commendable job in VTV. Re: [arr] VTV might be remade in Hindi
Is it not possible to release all his new albums in Hindi and if possible also in English (regardless of movie releases).. ARR has a large global fan base.. and it's a sheer disappointment for fans worldwide when we wait for years and then don't get to buy the original CD. This also encourages (and sometimes justify) piracy! Besides, this would definitely increase his album sales and add more jewels to his crown. Simple and superb review bro, kudos to you! Even my ringtone is Anbil Avan and the whole movie (BGMs and everything) is in my heart of the brain. Bold climax Simbhu - Great looks magical performance + a come back movie for this multitalented Trisha - May be people will remember her as Jessie from now on. Ganesh - What a performance..Simple comedy - effectively portrayed with his unique style of dialogue delivery - esp everytime when he says Thambi. Manoj - Visual treat of Chennai, Kerala, Malta NYC AR sir's BGM - wow...Violin Interludes everytime when Kartik and Jessie meet. Chinmayee's sweet voice for Trisha - worth mentioning. Kudos to the entire crew.. Guys - those who have not seen it - please rush! Regards -- Regards, Uday Kiran

Re: [arr] VTV....my first ever review!
the most truthful and exact review of VTV!!! Thanks for ur awesome review!!! --- On Sun, 7/3/10, lux4muz N lux4...@gmail.com wrote: From: lux4muz N lux4...@gmail.com Subject: [arr] VTVmy first ever review! To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Date: Sunday, 7 March, 2010, 3:33 AM We saw this movie Last Sunday night 7:30 pm - Naz Theatre (Now -Big Cinemas). I wasnt too excited about the movie hall or the price of the ticket...not a big fan of Naz..especially the hall is more like a stock room ... Hubby I just gobbled something at the Masala Grill next door and rushed for the theatre I was pleasantly surprised about 2 things 1.Hall was totally empty and I hadnt expected that 2.There had been some renovation and the hall no longer looked like a stock room. I was impressed! Now...we wait for the movie to begin..both of us, a little nervous. We have been waiting for this movie for a while...we were fell in love with the album! The room gets filled, and I move around to get the best seat..for the best view and...the title rolled ...we were sold! the concept of rolling names in tamil, and its shadow on water (in english) brilliant... movie started with bgm of something similar to lathika's theme and mannipaya..awesome. .(yes, we screamed too..when ARR's name rolled) after that it moved to aaromale super awesome...! I read some reviews that only Hosaana was shot well, but I actually like Omana penne...the song literally makes your pulse go faster towards the end..with each beat, the lovers seem to get closer... the chemistry in the scene was palpable...I havent seen a movie (hindi/tamil or english) in recent past that made me feel this way..it was as if I was living this love story. Kannukkul kannai went so well with the emotions of the scene, i understood why ARR put all the beats (which I initially thought drowned Naresh's voice)..but the situation demanded it to be so bold and there it wasloved the Cello! Jessie's Theme - well I read in the forum that it was too loud.. I dont agree with that...when your heart wants to scream at the foolishness or arrogance displayed by people you love..i am sure it will be this loud. Some say...the second half was slower..but I felt that it had the right pace and momentum...we came out of the hall thinking, is it true that this Story is based on Gautam's real life story? I really wanted the story to have a happy ending, so when Trisha turned to Simbu and explained that why she couldnt talk to him in NY..my heart broke! Overall...both of us came out of the hall..loving every bit of the movie...I cant recall a single scene that was out of place or a single bgm piece that was unwanted or loud. LOVED IT...and we are waiting for the DVD release! Good Show by the entire cast and crew of VTV! The INTERNET now has a personality. YOURS! See your Yahoo! Homepage. http://in.yahoo.com/

yes Subbu, i absolutely agree with you... Vinoo From: karthik b karthikviru...@yahoo.com To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sun, 28 February, 2010 6:40:14 PM Subject: [arr] VTV... Amazing Hi All, I guess this is my first mail to the community. I just saw the movie in Devi. I think this movie more than anything else, the credit must be given to ARR sir and the way his music been visually presented. For the past 2 years or so, not all the Music given by our ARR was given this much visual. It was not that extravaganza and all. It was simple, gentle, neat presentation. I think Gautham is having his best sync with ARR than Harris. I dont wanna compare, but his visualization is at best when he is doing with ARR than Harris. I havent seen a song with such a beautiful visualization than OmanaPenne and Hosana.. The BGM is simply awesome. Those beats that go around the Dolby speakers when that boxing scene happens is simply awesome. I hear from people that the Rock - jazz kind off music (Jessy.. Crazy), something like that comes with the BGM.. I dono exactly what kind of music it is.. but I actually enjoyed it a lot. It has got mixed up well. Waiting for the BGM's to be out soon. :) Cheers, Subbu Your Mail works best with the New Yahoo Optimized IE8. Get it NOW!. The INTERNET now has a personality. YOURS! See your Yahoo!
