Re: Arithmetic on date field values...doesn't work in table qualification

2007-11-02 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Sorry guys, I just realized that the field on the source form is date/time
field not date, so it was a false alarm. The bug is there, but it's in my mind.
It's late friday...what can I say?

I just confirmed that arithmetic works ok in table qual if both fields are date.

So what it basically means is that arithmetic is allowed in table field quals
as long as both sides of the operator are date fields. Or both are date/time
fields.

When one side is Date/Time, and another one is Date, even without any
arithmetic, it doesn't convert date to date/time or the other way around, as I
would like it to and throws this error. On Set fields, such a conversion occurs
so I still want to call it a bug, but this time I'm not sure it's in my head or
out there in reality. I will think about that Monday.

Again thanks Eric and Joe.

Hi
Rabi,

Have you tried
performing the calculation on the left side of the qualification, such as:

  ( $Date Field On Current Form$ + 1 )
< 'Date Field on Source Form'

Not positive that will help, but I've seen other qualifications in the
past, where it worked fine with the arithmetic performed on the left, but not
the right.

Also, are you
positive the date field on the current form has a value at the time the table
qualification is read? In other words, it is not evaluating
as:

'Date Field on Source Form' > (
  $NULL$ + 1 )

I can do arithmetic on a value on a date field
fine to do stuff like add 1 to a date in set field action to get the next
day.

However, in a table's qualification, a clause such as:
'Date
Field on Source Form' > ( $Date Field On Current Form$ + 1 )

or any
other kind of addition to a date field on source or current form's date field
causes:

ARERR [313] Data types are not appropriate for relational
operation

on refreshing the table.

Since arithmetic works in set
field actions, there is not logical reason it shouldn't work in a table field
qual, so I want to mark this as a bug.

Anyone seen this? I don't think
date/time fields have this issue.

I am trying to avoid having to do the
arithmetic on a separate field and reference that field in the
qual.

ARSlist Awards: Official Announcement

2007-11-02 Thread daniel . bloom
First my appologies to everyone for taking this long to make things "official",
then again I consider Doug Blair's reports official these days (even if at this
point with a 26000 post backlog he may not read this until after Miami).

Several Important Items:

The New Platinum Sponsor who has stepped up to the plate and agreed to fully
sponsor the awards and the list until the end of 2008, renewal possible:

Resource Management Solutions (www.rmsportal.com).

Whilst they are essentially a resourcing firm, they seem to be coming out with
an interesting new model to reward those that work through them. Stay tuned for
their official sanctioned ad on the list (they get one a quarter, a footer
mention on posts, their URL on the arslist.org and wwrug.org web sites) and I
hope a

A WARM Welcome please from the ARSlisters!

So, Doug already gave you the Official Results of the Official Award Ceremony
(which had what Phil Bautista dubbed the ITSM7 pack of Twinkies: they only came
in three, not induvidually wrapped, heavier than usual and not easily
modifiable).

Doug Mueller explained the reason why we throw Twinkies, and I think Misi can
explain why we don't eat them :-)

An unusual move was the announcement of next year's UserWorld conferences,
Mid-May in Lisbon for the European, and mid-October in Miami.

Of course, unless I misswrote the dates, the Miami conference includes Our
(Canada's) Thanksgiving Monday.

All for now.

And Bring on the new Developer Studio (whatever they want to call it)! The
feature improvements are huge. Around 10 years ago or so I submitted a request,
and many other since, for $NULL$ on the qualification bars. Now we can add it
and whatever else we want ourselves.

(I pity support that now has to wonder if errors have been created by us
modifying the "Admin" tool).

cheers ... Daniel

I misread your email.. You cannot use a direct sql for that comparison but
will have to use the first method I described and compare it with that

Thanks Joe, but as I stated such a workaround is what I am hoping to avoid
here, because it's pretty lame that it should blame me for the calculation,
because in another context it lets it thru.

Since arithmetic works in set field actions, there is not logical reason
it shouldn't work in a table field qual, so I want to mark this as a bug.

Anyone seen this? I don't think date/time fields have this issue.

I am trying to avoid having to do the arithmetic on a separate field and
reference that field in the qual.

Re: ARS 7.1 - Malloc Error while creating new Display-Only form

2007-11-02 Thread sumeetdas
Hello listers,

One of the first defects in ARS 7.1 ?

I have ARS 7.1 running on AIX 5.3 with Oracle 10g R2 as the database.
When I try to create a new Display-Only form, I get the following
error

"Malloc failed on server : Form01 (ARERR 300)."

However, I am able to modify existing Display-only forms as well as
import definitions of Display-only forms.

This has been noted a defect and BMC Remedy support is working on it.

Sumeet Das

Getting a ArrayStoreException error while trying invoke OpGetList operation from a Web Service created for a Remedy form.

Hi Listers..

I have Remedy AR Server 7.1 on AIX 5.3 and Oracle 10g R2. We also have
Mid-tier 7.1 and Java 1.5 installed on the box. I am using a custom

I have generated the WSDL and used it to generate the Java code [using

Any pointers towards this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Arithmetic on date field values...doesn't work in table qualification

2007-11-02 Thread Joe D'Souza
Then you could do it directly at DB level.. At the application level I would
think you will get a response that it is working as designed as a date field
is not an integer or a real field.. Its an integer field at the DB level..
Run a Direct SQL to update the value and that should do it for you. That
will not require the addition of temporary field and hence is not really a
workaround but a direct way of achieving what you want to..

Besides I do not really see what would be the problem using a workaround in
this case. The process will be pretty much transparent to end users and
there will be no additional or at least a significant cost to the database
or the whole operation.

2007-11-02 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Hi Rabi,

Have you tried performing the calculation on the left side of the
qualification, such as:

( $Date Field On Current Form$ + 1 ) < 'Date Field on Source
Form'

Not positive that will help, but I've seen other qualifications in the
past, where it worked fine with the arithmetic performed on the left,
but not the right.

Also, are you positive the date field on the current form has a value at
the time the table qualification is read? In other words, it is not
evaluating as:

'Date Field on Source Form' > ( $NULL$ + 1 )

Making a graphical IDE that generates code on-the-fly is no easy thing.
I know--I've done it. To "reinvent" the Remedy Admin tool by
reengineering an open source thing (like Eclipse) is a monster
undertaking. It's not just a matter of tweaking how the Java gets
generated or tossing in a few extra features. It would be almost a
complete rewrite, from my perspective, because the development
methodology is so different. It's not like taking a graphical IDE that
produces Java and making it produce, say, C++.

BMC already has a perfectly functional graphical editor for developing
Remedy apps (the current Admin tool). Why they'd scrap that and adopt
an open source product and then "soup it up" to do what they'd need it
to do to make it "Remedy" is beyond me.

Granted, I wasn't at RUG and haven't seen it yet, but it sounds bizarre
just from the description.

Norm,

Actually there are editors (just a sub part of the Eclipse IDE) that
does graphical layout of buttons etc for Java classes. The Editor
allows you to graphically create the Java source code and back and
forth too.

So the idea that it could be used to present the user with an "active
link window" that talk to the ARS server instead of making a *.java
file seems like a very "normal" thing for the IDE to do to me.

To answer your concern, Matt, I did hear that the plan is to allow us to
eventually build our own plug-ins (in addition to whatever ones BMC might
create) for the Eclipse tool. That might not be available right away, but
it is a goal they're hoping to reach.

The simplest (and IMHO the best) one line answer is this

"
Eclipse is an "IDE for everything and nothing in particular"
"
( I use to see this on Eclipse's web site, but I can not find the reference
any more... )

An older ref:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-eclipse.html
"
The Eclipse Platform is designed for building integrated development

solutions for multiple execution environments. This article discusses the
platform, and includes a list of questions and answers.
"

And some more modern updates: http://www.eclipse.org/home/newcomers.php
"
What is Eclipse?

Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on building
an extensible development platform, runtimes and application frameworks for
building, deploying and managing software across the entire software
lifecycle. Many people know us, and hopefully love us, as a Java IDE but
Eclipse is much more than a Java IDE.
"

For example... if BMC decided to use the "Rich Client
Platform"(RCP)(http://www.eclipse.org/home/categories/rcp.php) they they
would have a ready to go framework that is advertised as:
"
Eclipse RCP is a platform for building and deploying rich client
applications. It includes Equinox, a component framework based on the OSGi
standard, the ability to deploy native GUI applications to a variety of
desktop operating systems, such as Windows, Linux and Mac OSX and an
integrated update mechanism for deploying desktop applications from a
central server.
"

So any application built using the RCP could (should) run on Windows or
Linux or Mac OSX without changes. (Yes that might be further limited by any
JNI layer that BMC might still be using. (However, rumor is that might be
gone by the time 7.5 comes around too.. :) )

HTH. But until we see how BMC did things... we will have no idea if there
will be opportunities for us to add to/improve/patch the new Admin Tool. (I
am hopeful, but only time will tell.)

Norm,

The simplest (and IMHO the best) one line answer is this

"
Eclipse is an "IDE for everything and nothing in particular"
"

An older ref:

"
The Eclipse Platform is designed for building integrated development
environments (IDEs). It can be used to create diverse end-to-end
computing solutions for multiple execution environments. This article
discusses the platform, and includes a list of questions and answers.

Mid-Tier in Load Balancing

2007-11-02 Thread LJ LongWing (Head)
Mid-Tier 7.1
Remedy 6.3 P21
Tomcat (version?)

Ok...Here is the situation. We are migrating from a App/Web on same box to
a Load Balanced web server with app on separate server (3 boxes in total).
They are using IIS Load Balancing with session affinity. When both boxes
are enable in the load balancer people are getting 9201 errors. we have
played with the load balancing config and verified that each box
individually is functioning properly without error. The only thing that the
Mid-Tier doc says about Load Balancing is to ensure that you have sticky
bits turned on. We are using SSL and the IIS team is saying they can only
track SSL sessions but don't know how to associate that with a client
session. We are using OOTB Tomcat that came with the 7.1 Mid-Tier. Any
suggestions of how to troubleshoot this issue?

Instead of creating records in the HPD:HelpDesk form, look at the
HPD:HelpDesk_CreateInterface form. This will handle all your issues

Re: Selection Fields and Active Links

2007-11-02 Thread Kemes, Lisa
Let me rephrase this, Drop Down Selection fields don't fire any workflow
at all. Only Character fields with a menu attached to it and the
display type is Drop Down.

**
WHY is it when you have a Selection Field (drop down list and without a
menu), if you select "Menu/Row/Level Choice" for your Execute On in an
Active Link, no workflow is fired??

The only time workflow will fire is if you have a menu behind the drop
down list. I just have YES and NO. Does this mean I have to create a
menu JUST so that Workflow will fire when this field is changed?

TelAlert Upgrade Questions

2007-11-02 Thread Lockwood, Teresa L
I have questions about the Telalert Product that I'm hoping to get some
feedback on. I'm looking to possibly upgrade the current 5.6 version
(as well as version 5-1 TelAlert Enterprise) to the new 6e version. I
have two questions for the list:

1. Can you provide practical differences between the two versions
as you've experienced? It's quite an expensive upgrade so am wondering
if it's worth the upgrade cost.

2. If you don't use TelAlert for Remedy notifications, what are you
using? I'd like to see those as well for review and comparison.

As always, thanks for your help.

Terri

Re: ARSLIST Awards

2007-11-02 Thread Easter, David
> BMC Software Employee: Beyond The Call Of Duty: David Easter

I'm very honored to have received this award as a "rookie" to ARSList.
My entire reason for jumping into the list without the express, written
consent of BMC was to try and bridge that gap between official channels
and the informal community of AR System users. In fact, as a technical
support engineer at a previous company, I ran an internal majordomo
alias that linked employees together and had a backend search function
just like ARSList, so I know the value of getting a quick answer to
simple questions. As the ancient proverb says:

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for one day.
Teach a man to use a search engine, and he'll be able to Google the
nearest fish market."

In all serious, though, I'm overwhelmed by the positive response I've
received - both in winning this award and from all the people who have
come up to me in person at UserWorld. I hope to continue to provide
what information or assistance I can through this list for years to

have a better understand of what your attempting to do.

Actually I think that is not true...

Should tell you if the field has at least two characters that are not

However... at the end of the day..
I think that building ARS workflow to do this kind of complex
pattern matching is likely a loosing battle. I would advocate the idea
of using an ARS Filter Plugin (Maybe even the Java Scripting Plugin)
for this kind of activity. You can actually use Regular expressions
and the code can validate multiple matches and return multiple returns
all in one call to the Plugin Server. Sure it requires more than "just
ARS knowledge" to do it, but there should be some standard-ish things
out there for password complexity checking in most languages.
(Especially C, Java, Perl, ) [ I really like to reuse this kind of
stuff when ever possible. ]
I also have to note that v7.1 brings a new spin on all of this
stuff too. ( More built in features for local password management.) So
I am not sure how all of that works just yet as far as password
patterns etc... [ So, just some food for thought about what the future
might change and effect the stuff your building today. ]

This is due to lack of experience with the product and in particular not

I fill in many Help Desk fields in my C-API call, including these below for

Assigned Support Organization (100014),
Assigned Group (100217)]

I have used the Application Administration Console to set up the Configure

The error that I get is "No groups were found using automated routing. You need

Does anybody who has had this problem have any idea what I may be doing wrong ?

I saw a reply to a previous listee's question about this that suggests to

Re: Possible DST Issue

2007-11-02 Thread Heider, Stephen
Michelle,

I am not aware of any bug defect with this. Since this "bug" will go
away in 3 days anyways I hadn't planned on submitting a bug report.

BTW, because of the nature of dates and time changes, moving forward I
plan to always set dates to character fields before sending to SQL.
This way, it shouldn't matter when the time changes.

BTW #2, I recently read somewhere online that the Act that changed DST
time in the US has a clause that allows Congress to revert back to the
original DST time if they want to. When/if that happens then ARS, Java,
OS's and other programs will need to be modified once again. T-Shirt
idea: Just say 'No' to Daylight Saving Time

Just wanted to pass this along...

ARS 6.3 p22 (server, mid-tier, user tool), SQL Server 2000 (all
patches), Windows Server 2003 (all patches).

When passing a date in a date field within an active link to a Set
Fields SQL User Defined Function Remedy changes the date to the previous
day. This only occurs for dates starting this last Sunday through this
coming Sunday.

The work-around is to set the date field to a tmp character field first,
then pass the tmp character field to the SQL user defined function.

Re: Pattern Matching

2007-11-02 Thread Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA
Carey, I ended up having to do:

'New Password' LIKE "%" + "[EMAIL PROTECTED]&*()=_+{},./<>?;:'-]" ) +
"%" ) + "[EMAIL PROTECTED]&*()=_+{},./<>?;:'-]" ) + "%" )

This verifies the New Password field has two special characters. You
have to have the - at the end of the string you are checking, and you
cannot check for [ ] or ".

I cannot use the ^ because it is a password, and the user HAS to have
A-z and 0-9 as well.

All in all, my checks are as follows:

'New Password' LIKE "%" + "[EMAIL PROTECTED]&*()=_+{},./<>?;:'-]" ) +
"%" ) + "[EMAIL PROTECTED]&*()=_+{},./<>?;:'-]" ) + "%" )

'New Password' LIKE "%" + "[A-Z]" ) + "%" ) + "[A-Z]" ) + "%"
)

'New Password' LIKE "%" + "[a-z]" ) + "%" ) + "[a-z]" ) + "%"
)

'New Password' LIKE "%" + "[0-9]" ) + "%" ) + "[0-9]" ) + "%"
)

I performed each check one at a time so I could set a flag for each
required layer of security, and then give the users meaningful messages,
such as, "Please include at least two integers, 0 - 9, in your
password."

I have an active link that calls a guide that contains all of the other
WF to check the above and sets a flag for each of the requirements if
they are met. Then a second active link calls a second guide that calls
a set of active links that check for each of the above flags and gives
an individual error message based off of the checks.

This is all on a display-only form. The last action the active links
perform is a Commit Changes, and then I have a filter run that will push
the new password to the User form.

I have added a date/time field to the user form, and was creating a
filter to set it whenever the password field changed. This didn't work
though, because remedy gave me an error message saying I could not use
the Password field in a run-if qualification.

Is anyone else out there setting a date/time field whenever the Password
is changing?

Thanks,

Opening a PDF from the MidTier

2007-11-02 Thread Sokol, Brian
I have an application that contains a link to a PDF document. I placed
the PDF document in the MidTier\Shared directory. The link on my Remedy
form is:

href="http://MyWebServer/arsys/shared/POInstructions.pdf";>Click Here
To Read Instructions

When I click on the link from Internet Explorer it opens fine. When I
click on the link from Firefox 2.0 I get gibberish. If I use the menu in
Firefox and select File Open File I can open the PDF properly. It will
not work if I use the link. Anyone steer me in the right direction? If I
go to another web site with Firefox I can open any other PDF.

ARS 6.3 p22 (server, mid-tier, user tool), SQL Server 2000 (all patches),
Windows Server 2003 (all patches).

When passing a date in a date field within an active link to a Set Fields

This only occurs for dates starting this last Sunday through this coming
Sunday.

The work-around is to set the date field to a tmp character field first,

Have a form with a date (not date time) field. User enters the date
11/01/2007. When they save the record the MidTier is changing the date to
10/31/2007. I was not able to find any way of setting 11/1/2007 in that
field. Also, if I enter the date as "11/1/2007 4:00:00 PM" it puts
11/0/2007 as the date.

Anybody else seeing this scenario?

Thank you

Sending emails in HTML format

2007-11-02 Thread Mike Balogh
Hi everyone -

I'm working with a 6.03 server and email engine to try to send a certain
email notification formatted as html (as I've done many times before on
other servers). I've setup html header and footer templates with attached
images. And specified those header and footer templates in the approprate
place on the filter that sends the notification. In addition, the message
body contains content which includes html tags.

When the message is sent, however, the content is only placed in the Plain
Text Body field on the AR System Email Messages form. The HTML Body field
is left blank. On the email client end, the html tags are still
interpreted properly but the formatting is a mess and the embedded images do
not display.

On the AR System Email Messages form, if I create an identical email record
to be sent, but copy and paste the content out of the Plain Text Body field
of the original email and into the HTML Body field of the new email, the
formatting is fine and the embedded images display properly when received.

So my question is: How do I force the email engine to send the notification
as html instead of plain text? What does it look for that would indicate
that the message being sent should be formatted as html? Every other server
I've ever worked with in this regard has done so without issue.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
~Mike

Re: Question..

2007-11-02 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Ron,

It needs to be installed somewhere it can be a client to the ARS
server. On the ARS server is fine. On a different host is fine. On the
Mid-Tier would be ok, but I would not suggest that if you have any
other choices.

The Mid-Tier can be a resource hog. (So best to not give those boxes
any more load.)

The Flashboard server is not normally very resource intensive (unless
your doing a lot of Flashboards) but it also has a *special* password
in it's config files. And Given that most Mid-tier are installed in
the DMZ. Well I think it is more wise to not push any more *special*
values into the DMZ than is absolutely necessary. ( However that might
just be my own paranoia kicking in.)

Re: Changing Request ID Prefix in Incident

2007-11-02 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Norm,

As has been said before... Let Remedy be Remedy, and extend it to your
own liking...

Add a new field ('Customer Call ID') and create workflow that takes
the standard/internal (Field ID 1) value and rips off the standard
prefix and prepends the "custom" prefix value to it.

This will allow the customer to "know" that value, use that value, and
not have to make dozens of changes to the OOB application.

KISS. (Keep it Simple S... S :) )

When I press this button in the mid-tier page of the form, I expect the
