Anne,

have a look at what data you have in the SHR:ARDBCFields form.
This form defines data mapping between underlying application forms and the
overview console list data.
It is quite likely that there is no data mapping for the Assignee field.
You can check this by running search on the SHR:ARDBCFields form for entries
where Vendor Field ID equals to 100218 (assignee field ID).
New entries can be added to this form to define mapping for missing
applications (Incident, Change etc.)
You then need to restart the plugin process on the server (or the whole Remedy
server) for changes to take effect.

Hope this helps.

**

I am using AR 7.0.1 on Linux with ITSM 7.0.2 Patch 4. When I try and add the
Assignee column to the Overview console, it is only populated for Problems
and Known Errors. The Assignee Group is never populated. I'm sure this has
something to do with the way SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole runs it's query. I
would think, since these two fields are on the common area of
SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole and aren't in the Problem only area or anything like
that, that they would be populated for any type of request. Am I way off base
or might there be a bug in the query?

Re: AIE 7.1 Patch 001 - no instance

2008-02-26 Thread Elry
Hi Folks...

We just finished the same AIE installation last week on a windows
platform.

The only references that we could find were on page 34/35 of the
Administration Guide.

The important point to note (we found out the hard was the following):

If you are upgrading your existing installation, you can continue the
installation
without adding any instances by typing 0 in the Number Of Instances
field.

If the value is greater than 0 - then those additional instances will
be created. In our case we noticed that we
had 3 instances due to one installation, re-installation, then a
patch.

The only spot that you can adjust these parameters is the BMC Atrium
Integration Engine Console under instances.

Unfortunately there are only two parameters that you can change
(Instance Name Unicode). This created a problem
for us due to the fact that none of the instances pointed to he
default port of 3021. We were looking for a way to adjust
the port of the service instances, but could not find one; therefore,
we blew it away and re-installed - then patched it (ensuring
that during patch installation we set the instance parameter to 0).

This worked to create a functioning single instance on port 3021.

On Feb 26, 12:59 am, Joe D'Souza [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
That's how its done in EIE, so I figure it must be the same in AIE.
Reinstalling creates those instances in the Windows Services automatically.

Reinstalling AIE (without installing the AR portion again - forms and
workflow) will also prompt you for a number of additional instances to add
to the existing ones, and might be a way to get them defined if they were
 not on the first install.

Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA
Hey Augusto, have you tried forcing the filter to ignore phasing?
You shouldn't have this problem with active links, as they are not processed in
phases.

If you suffix the name of the filter with `! then remedy will not phase that
filter.

For instance: HPD:Helpdesk-Filter would be HPD:Helpdesk-Filter`!

For more information on this, you can read the Workflow Objects guide with
version 7.x, or the Basic Guide (starting at page 576, pages 584 and 585
describe the naming convention mentioned above) with version 6.x.

RES: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Tadeu Augusto Dutra Pinto
Thank you, Gary...

But it still doesn't help me..

My problem is that I would like to create one record (in other form) for each
time that I read a value on my form...
This iteration is done by 'Goto' Action...

I have achieved to create only one record on my form2... with the last value
read only (last iteration)...

What can I do?
My workflow is these:
1 - Set Fields (Get the first value from a list separated by ;)
2 - Push Fields (Creation of record in another form - form2)
3 - Goto (return to beginning of the workflow reading the next value from the
list separated by ;)
...
continue until my list separated by ; were NULL;

Thankx again!

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA
Interesting what you are experiencing there.

It looks to me like you need to break your filter up into at least three others.

I would suggest actions 1 - 3 be in one filter, the push fields be in another,
and then the goto be in yet another filter action.

If you are needing them to loop, just put them in a filter guide to cause them
to loop, this might even allow you to avoid using the goto. Generally, gotos
are not good to use if you can avoid them.

If I understand what you are doing correctly, you would need the following:

Push Field (might need to force phasing override with `! and
this is assuming that you are parsing out the value which you are needing to
push from GRUPO_AUX1_CHAR.)
Filter 2:
Set Field GRUPO_AUX1_CHAR =

Thank you, Gary...

But it still doesn't help me..

My problem is that I would like to create one record (in other form) for each
time that I read a value on my form...
This iteration is done by 'Goto' Action...

I have achieved to create only one record on my form2... with the last value
read only (last iteration)...

What can I do?
My workflow is these:
1 - Set Fields (Get the first value from a list separated by ;)
2 - Push Fields (Creation of record in another form - form2)
3 - Goto (return to beginning of the workflow reading the next value from the
list separated by ;)
...
continue until my list separated by ; were NULL;

Thankx again!

Good Morning for all of you...

I'd like to know if can I do something like these:

There is a Filter (or Active Link) that fires a sequency of 'Set Fields' action
followed by a 'Push Fields' action, and after the workflow/object fires a
'Goto' action to redirect to another Filter...

But I'm in trouble because the 'Goto' action is deffered... and, consequently,
it isn't executed... By the way, it is executed, but only at the end of the
Filter ... I would like that it ran on its real execution moment.

My log file for this object looks like these:

The best thing is to switch on you filter logging while running the

Hey Fritz, thanks for the response.

The tickets don't seem to be duplicating. I'm checking them, they are in
the original form, but not in the archive one.

I'm not using ITSM, these are all custom remedy applications, so I don't
think that HPD filters would apply.

I don't understand how filtering against $USER$ = AR_ARCHIVER will
affect the archiving process, could you please help me understand this?

My archive criteria are as follows:
( 'Create Date' ($DATE$ - (86400 * 400))) AND ( 'Status' = Closed )

And I plug that directly into the user tool and it finds 14,581 tickets
that have not archived.

Hi,

I think we may need to add AND $USER $ != AR_ARCHIVER in the filter
qualification as well.

If the incident is related to another incident then we need to find out
How is it related to the other incident? Is it a duplicate or is it the
original?

Please add the AND $USER$ != AR_ARCHIVER in filter
HPD:HPD-DO_NOT_REMOVE_02 and check if the archiving works or not. If it
still does not work please provide the filter logs during archiving.

I have about 1400 tickets that will not archive. They meet the criteria.
I copy the search criteria from the archive properties and plug it
directly in. They just will not archive.

Do they some how get flagged to tell remedy they've already been
archived? My archive process did fail in the middle of trying to archive
once, so that might have messed things up.

Thanks Strauss, you're correct :)

I tried to grep for any string containing 'BackupLoadFlag' on the AIE

( find . | xargs grep BackupLoadFlag )

Since I didn't find any arx files for EIE:BackupLoadFlag form, so I
manually import the instance data using Remedy Import to that form..
and AIE works now :)

But, still get AIE stability problem, it often killed and generating

I will report the solution to this list after getting AIE stability

returned from the other system. Since you are consuming a service the Filter

log will show the inbound and outbound data (when the log level is set to a

I believe this can be classified as somewhat Off Topic so here goes. I have a

a record in another system and Remedy receives a ticket number back. Up until
about a month ago everything was pretty great. About that time we noticed that
on occasion there are actually two records being created in the other system
for a single submit into From A. In each case the record number that appears
fin m Remedy record is the second record created in the other system. I have
not been able to duplicate this issue while doing random testing.
Also, up until today all the duplicate tickets that are being created in the
other system were always sequential. Today I saw where the duplicate record
skipped one number. I am wondering if anyone has any idea what may be
happening. This is our first attempt at using web services and I really want

Roger,

Is your other system behind a load balancer? any possibility that the other
system may be processing it twice? In addition to taking your plugin logs,
it may be useful to even take logs on the other system to see what's going
on.. Maybe the 'suspect' operation is happening outside of ARS and not
really on the ARS so chances are you may learn nothing taking logs just of
the plugins and filters from the ARS side..

This seems like what I had planned to do, but the problem with it is
that you will need to change the Computer Names on the Blackberries to
maintain who the current owner is. This probably isn't a huge issue,
but I wonder if there is a downside to that, since the phone number is
essentially dynamic. It basically means that if a Blackberry Asset
record gets created with no Serial Number populated, it would
potentially be lost in the system somewhere.

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Scott Parrish
Tadeu,
My first question is why is your Goto action 502 when your filter executes
at 501? If I'm reading correctly, you want this to loop through your field
of Group IDs, so you are going to need to return to action 501. My
preference is to not use GOTO actions and utilize guides instead. This way,
I know my workflow is going to execute in the right order and no other dev
can come and add something in between what I'm trying to do.

I would do this:
1. Create a Filter Guide.
2. Add a label to the guide call it RESTART. This label should come before
any filters in the guide.
3. Add your filter to the guide, but edit the filter and remove the GoTo
action.
4. Create another filter, set its Run If Qualification to 'GRUPO_AUX1_CHAR'
!= $NULL$. Set the Filter's If Action to GOTO Guide LABEL. Enter RESTART as
the label.
5. Add this new Filter to the guide.
6. Obviously, you have to create a filter that calls the guide.

Hey Augusto, have you tried forcing the filter to ignore phasing?
You shouldn't have this problem with active links, as they are not processed
in phases.

I'd like to know if can I do something like these:

There is a Filter (or Active Link) that fires a sequency of 'Set Fields'
action followed by a 'Push Fields' action, and after the workflow/object
fires a 'Goto' action to redirect to another Filter...

But I'm in trouble because the 'Goto' action is deffered... and,
consequently, it isn't executed... By the way, it is executed, but only at
the end of the Filter ... I would like that it ran on its real execution

Re: about setting colors of fields.

2008-02-26 Thread Easter, David
While not exactly doing what you want, you can change the text color in
table fields (available in previous releases), as well as the background
(new in 7.1.00).

From the What's New for 7.1.00:
http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/17/53/71753/71753.pdf
Customizable background color on rows

Administrators now can customize the background color of records in a
table based on the value of an enumerated field.

In the Field Properties-Table Field dialog box (in the Results Color
tab), two background color options are available: The default alternate
gray and white row colors, or a custom color.

No but if you do not mind creating display only fields that are disabled
that show or hide depending on the choice of the original field with all
those values preset on them in different colors, you may be able to do
something there.. You will have to be a little bit 'artistic' there and
place them one above the other so to the eye it appears like its just a
single field...

Hope this helps..

If the value is greater than 0 - then those additional instances will

Re: Asset Management and Blackberries

2008-02-26 Thread Rick Cook
Shawn, to paraphrase Monty Python: Now for something completely different.

I would track the phone number as part of the person's record, not the asset
itself, especially since you say that it is dynamic (depending on the user.)

So put the BB in whatever class you like, using the Serial number as the
primary identifier. Then make User X a User/Owner of that device for as
long as (s)he has that device. That will have the effect of associating the
phone number to the device without having to figure out where to add it to
the class structure. The association is then available from either the
Person record or the device's Asset record, and is easily modified as
necessary within the association structure, rather than as a direct
attribute of the class object.

 Good morning all,

I'm curious if anyone is using Asset Management to track devices like
Blackberries. If so, what Class are you storing them in, and how do you
 track the phone number?

 Thanks,

ArServer 7.1 in SQL Cluster

2008-02-26 Thread Rosalind Winder-Thomas
Is there a way to re-configure Arsystem 7.1 in the SQL2005 Cluster that
will allow us to failure without stopping and restarting the ArServer
services?

We currently have ArSystem7.1 on Windows Server2003 in an SQL2005
Cluster.

Any step-by-step instructions would be more than welcome.

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Darrell Reading
Ok list. I have talked to Junior, (Gary), offline and thought I had the silver
bullet from the old days, `!, but it failed. I have reviewed our logs and I
see that my error checking is fired in phase two, whilst our ticket is created
in phase one. I have read through the guide thing and see that it might work
for our solution. My frustration is that the execution order is 0 and we are
trying to force it to fire in the order that it falls.

Net of our issue is that I am trying to enforce a user to only submit tickets,
and this is firing on submits as well as 'SET's, BECAUSE the ticket is
technically already submitted by the time my workflow is called. I may just
set some stupid tmp field and enforce the rule with a count utility of some
sort, but I had to vent to you guys. If there is something that can be rolled
into this with minimal tweaks, please let me know. Otherwise, I am going to go
build something convoluted as the rest of the form.

Tadeu,
My first question is why is your Goto action 502 when your filter executes

You shouldn't have this problem with active links, as they are not processed
in phases.

I have been explicit about it not firing on SET. Looking through the logs, I
see the record number generated by filters that fire beforehand. The issue is
that I am trying to get that puppy to fire before the ticket is generated.
What I believe that I am looking at is that I am hosed under the current
conditions. I could try to remove it and recreate it and see if that helps.
The odd thing is that it works correctly, or seems to, in test. I will delete
the filters and see what happens when I create them again, then if that fails,
it's temp field time.

Approval Server Issues....

2008-02-26 Thread Louis Cobuccio
Hey Gang,

I am running into an issue with one of our approval processes. We are a

Windows Shop, Windows Server 2003, MS SQL 2005 and IIS 6 w/TomCat. We
are
running version 7.0.01 patch 006 for everything BMC Remedy.

Here is the process in question,

We have a 24 hour approval process for our major Change Management
tickets. All IT managers have 24 hours to review, approve or reject the

request. If no action is taken by a manager in the 24 hour window then
the
system will automatically give his/her approval. The end result being
that
the ticket should automatically be approved if no management rejects
occur.

Here is the issue,

The Change Ticket looks great under the approval tab after the 24 hour
period. There is no one listed under Pending and if you look under
Approved you see the signatures of those managers that approved and you
don't see a signature just the status of Approved for those managers who

took no action either way.

However the tickets overall approval status still shows as Pending.
Also
I do receive Approval Engine error emails, one for each manager that the

system automatically approved.

The error message is The approval engine encountered an error for a
process for which you are an administrator. The error is as follows:

A process was specified but no process by that name exists

I have a ticket logged with support but they seem to be dragging their
feet.

Any help would be great.

Thank you,
Lou

Re: Adding Assignee column to Overview Console

2008-02-26 Thread Michiel Beijen
Anne,

I've included a snippet I stored on my computer. I believe I took it from a
KB article but I can not find that anymore:
--
*Adding a field to the overview console table in ITSM7*

The Overview Console Table is populated using a plugin. The plugin returns
records from forms that are defined the SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate
form. The Plugin will look at the Form Guid in this form, and search that
form. For example you will see the following 8 records in the
SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate:

 FORM NAME FORM GUID
--
TMS:Task TMSTASK
HPD:Helpdesk MAINHELPDESK
PBM:Solution Database MAINKNOWLEDGEDATABAE
PBM:Known Error MAINKNOWNERROR
PBM:Problem Investigation MAIONPROBLEM
CHG:Infrastructure Change MAINCHANGE
AST:PurchaseRequisition ASTPUREREQUISITION
AST:CI Unavialabilty ASTCIUNAVIALBLITY

If you are logged into the WUT as appadmin for example, the plugin will
search the above forms to find the records that are assigned to appadmin and
populate the OverviewConsole similar to how the SHR:Consolidated list
worked.

But how are the fields mapped from the forms to the OverviewConsole , this
is done via the SHR:ARDBC fields form. Here you will see mapping for field
from the backend forms to the Vendor form hence populating the form. Form
example if you would like have more information in the Overview console, for
instance the First Name*+ field from the HPD:Helpdesk form.

The database id for this field is 100019 (in HPD:Helpdesk). This field
already exists in the forms:

   - SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate
   - SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole

so we do not need to create it again ( you can map any fieldID the database
id do not have to match, as long the database length is sufficient). But for
this example, the database ID are matching.

To create a mapping for the HPD:Helpdesk form. Open the SHR:ARDBCFields form
in new mode and use the following values:

FieldID: 100019
FormGUID:MAINHELPDESK
Vendor Field ID: 100019
Submitter: ARSystem

Open the SHR:OverviewConsole in the Admin Tool.

   - open the table z2TH_ConsolidateTable1 properties
   - on tab Table/Tree Property
   - Look for First Name under Fields on Form and click Add
   - Double click on the column First Name and add public Permissions
   - Save and close the form.

Restart the plugin or ARServer. Open the OverviewConsole and there should
now be data for the First Name from the Incidents form.

 Anne,

have a look at what data you have in the SHR:ARDBCFields form.
This form defines data mapping between underlying application forms and
the
 overview console list data.
It is quite likely that there is no data mapping for the Assignee field.
You can check this by running search on the SHR:ARDBCFields form for
entries
where Vendor Field ID equals to 100218 (assignee field ID).
New entries can be added to this form to define mapping for missing
 applications (Incident, Change etc.)
You then need to restart the plugin process on the server (or the whole
Remedy server) for changes to take effect.

 Hope this helps.

I am using AR 7.0.1 on Linux with ITSM 7.0.2 Patch 4. When I try and add

it's query. I would think, since these two fields are on the common area
of
SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole and aren't in the Problem only area or anything
like that, that they would be populated for any type of request. Am I way
off base or might there be a bug in the query?

At a high level:
Basically barcode readers send the scanner data and a 'Return' (or
something similar).
So it is like the scanner is typing the scanner value and hitting
Return.
you can test in Word just to see it work :)

Installing the scanner is like anything else; plug it in and load the
drivers.
You use workflow to get 'focus' to the field you want to populate, then
have additional workflow to fire on the 'Return' from the scanner.
So you could scan one item after another OR scan multiple values for a
single entry.
I have done this twice in a production environment, and after the
initial trepidation it was really fairly straight forward.
The bigger questions are really around:
WHAT work are you trying to accomplish?
HOW do you want your work process to flow?
What other inputs will be needed?
Blah, blah, blah.
The barcode piece is tiny after that. Remember: the only thing the
scanner is going to do is type value form barcode and hit enter :)

Phil Bautista, bullcreekdata.com, has done this several times and
overall is very experienced and talented.
I would highly recommend him if you need more formal assistance or
implementation planning.

We would like to use barcodes and hand-held scanners to keep track of

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link - Solved

2008-02-26 Thread Darrell Reading
Ok. Upon further conversation with Junior offline, (Gary Opela), he discovered
the folly of my ways. I feel truly silly on this, but it's proof that even an
old dog can overlook cheesey things. The filter was getting bypassed on submit
as prescribed, BUT upon later phases, it was looked at once again, and fell
under the correct qualifications and fired, throwing the error, thus rolling
back the transaction. I think we will build the qualification to go off of
create time to be greater than 10 seconds so that when the ticket is being
processed, that the modify or SET filter won't fire at that time. Thanks again
Junior, the student became the teacher in this case...

Can you explicitly deny it from running on SET? Also, I had an issue with
a filter a while ago, I was sure it was correct, so I just deleted it and
recreated it and it started working.

Ok list. I have talked to Junior, (Gary), offline and thought I had the
silver bullet from the old days, `!, but it failed. I have reviewed our
logs and I see that my error checking is fired in phase two, whilst our
ticket is created in phase one. I have read through the guide thing and see
that it might work for our solution. My frustration is that the execution
order is 0 and we are trying to force it to fire in the order that it falls.

Net of our issue is that I am trying to enforce a user to only submit
tickets, and this is firing on submits as well as 'SET's, BECAUSE the ticket
is technically already submitted by the time my workflow is called. I may
just set some stupid tmp field and enforce the rule with a count utility of
some sort, but I had to vent to you guys. If there is something that can be
rolled into this with minimal tweaks, please let me know. Otherwise, I am
going to go build something convoluted as the rest of the form.

Tadeu,
My first question is why is your Goto action 502 when your filter executes

Thank you, Gary...

But it still doesn't help me..

My problem is that I would like to create one record (in other form) for
each time that I read a value on my form...

3 - Goto (return to beginning of the workflow reading the next value from
the list separated by ;)

continue until my list separated by ; were NULL;

Thankx again!

Re: Scanners and barcodes

2008-02-26 Thread Phil Bautista
Thanks, Mark and Claire for the recommendations J,

What Mark has identified is spot on. We did this for Claire with wireless,
ruggedized barcode scanners integrating with custom forms and workflow in
ARS and updated the CMDB in addition to providing the ability to print out
additional barcode labels directly from Remedy. For other companies we have
implemented the same wireless technology to scan barcodes for inventory,
both tracking and asset management. I have used it to scan badges at local
Remedy user groups both in realtime, wirelessly (updating a remote AR Server
using custom apps/workflow) and offline using handheld devices. We also
worked with Joel Sender for another customer in CA to do a mobilized
implementation that was completely different in process and scope, the only
common element was the barcode aspect.

I have never done this exactly the same way for any two customers (imagine
that!).

As mentioned in Mark's post, the issue really is the process you are trying
to implement using the scanning technology. This applies to both 2D and 3D
scans as well as RFID. I saw your email off list but wanted to echo and
detail this for you and other users. If you would like to continue this
offline, please let me know.

Frank,

If you right click on the image where the image is suppsed to appear on your

Re: Action deffered in Filter/Active Link

2008-02-26 Thread Wheeler, Dylan
It looks like there is another problem with your filter somewhere. It's not a
problem with it deferring anymore, it looks like the qualification on
SEC-Create_User_ARSLIST_FG`! is passing and it's trying to push right away, but
it's not. I'd check your error log to see if there is an entry in there for
something like incompatible data, data too long for a field, etc.

However upon going to look for the software... it appears to not be

Sigh. ( What a Tuesday tease. If it were Friday I would try to laugh.)

Server 6.3 path 024 released today

2008-02-26 Thread Ray Gellenbeck
As I was composing this, someone told me this was already complained, but let
me chime in...

The support site does not yet have patch 024 listed as a 6.3 patch, but the
email came out today announcing it. If anyone has patch notes for patch024,
I'd appreciate a copy so an evaluation of benefit vs. pain can be made on our
main app systems. Thanks in advance.

Re: Archiving: some tickets won't archive

2008-02-26 Thread Arner, Todd
I vaguely remember having this issue when I was trying to archive a form
with a large number of records meeting the criteria. Something to do
with the length of time it was taking to archive all the records was too
long and it timed out and nothing was archived. I changed my archive
criteria so that a smaller amount would be archived each night and that
fixed the problem for us. I don't recall ever determining exactly why
it was happening.

Notify Action Web URL incorrectly formed (ITSM 7.0.3)

2008-02-26 Thread Prasan Katti
Hello All,

We are currently configuring our DEV server running ITSM 7.0.3 (Patch 7).
When I create an incident the notification sent out by the application
includes the following web url and AR Task attachment to access the ticket
directly:
http://itsmserver/arsys/forms/itsmserver.mycompany.com/NTE%3ANotifier?eid=NTS0031

However this URL is not correctly formed and clicking on it will show the
following error:

ARERR [9280]
Server not present in the configured servers list - itsmserver.mycompany.com

I have looked through the archives, but cannot find where this value ('
itsmserver.mycompany.com' to just 'itsmserver') needs to be changed so that
the URL works across all applications and notify actions.

Please help!!.

Thanks,
Prasan.

CAC card enablement

2008-02-26 Thread john rosquist
Does anyone know the status of Remedy and CAC cards with in the DoD community?
I am looking for actual requirements and how and if they are being met.

I know that portals can broker the CAC authentication for the midtier. But I
have the understanding that DoD wants the application source to be CAC enabled
too and I take this to mean the Remedy ARS server. Is this other people
understanding?

Thanks,
John

Re: CAC card enablement

2008-02-26 Thread Easter, David
AR System can be CAC enabled using the Client-side intercept technology
provided (also sometimes referred to as SSO, although that's a misnomer
in this case since the goal is not single sign-on).

http://www.bmc.com/supportu/documents/57/12/65712/65712.pdf

The issue seems to come down to a customer's/base's individual
interpretation of the OMB directive. Some feel that it is sufficient to
challenge for the CAC when logging into the operating system - then
using that authentication to enter other applications. In other words,
when attempting to log into AR System, AR System will use the
authentication provided through Windows Authentication to confirm the
authentication is valid. That means AR System does not need to query
the CAC directly.

Some customers/bases have a more strict interpretation that the CAC
should be challenged for entering an application even if already logged
into the OS. In this case, the login page is intercepted and the CAC
challenged. This would require the CAC client software to be loaded
locally on the machine from which the login attempt is made. The CAC
client software queries the card and then authenticates the user,
enabling the log in process to AR System.

Hope this helps,

Re: Migration from ARS 5.1.2 to 7.1

2008-02-26 Thread Joe DeSouza
Mario,

This really depends on what you want to migrate..

Do you only want to upgrade your ARS Server version from 5.1.2 to ARS Server
7.1? Or do you have those OTB ITSM applications that need to be upgraded from
their current versions to a newer one?

Your upgrade has to be incremental going upward with every major delta version
that was released. However before you upgrade from ARS Server version 6.3 to
7.0 you may need to upgrade the Oracle database to 10g after bringing down the
ARS Server as ARS 7.

So your upgrade path would be ARS 5.1.2 - ARS 6.0 - ARS 6.3 - upgrade oracle
after turning down Remedy - ARS 7.0 - ARS 7.1

Trying to skip a major release may result in corruption of your DB so be
careful..

NOW if you have got ITSM apps installed that you need to upgrade to ITSM 7 -
thats a different beast altogether.. thats more of a migration than just
upgrade...

Cheers

Joe

Hi All,

Is there anyone in the list who have migrated ARS from 5.1.2 directly to 7.1 ?
I'd like to know if anybody faced any situation that requeries more atention or
effort.

In addition, i need to decide the best migration mode. i personally prefer the
UPDATE
mode using ar system installer. We did that when we migrated 4.5 to 5.1.2 and
it was OK.

The problem now envolves the migration of the OS ( AIX 4.3 to 5.2 ). Next, the
script we are planning to do
1 - Copy ar system filesystem from AIX 4.3 to an AIX 5.2 machine
2 - Start ARS 5.1.2 on this new machine ( Is this really works ? )
3 - Run installer on UPDATE mode

Scenario
 From ARS 5.1.2 Patch 1389
AIX 4.3 , Oracle 9i
 To ARS 7.1
AIX 5.2, Oracle 10

Re: Notify Action Web URL incorrectly formed (ITSM 7.0.3)

2008-02-26 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Prasan,
You need to make sure that on your mid-tier server:

(1)its configuration (General tab) includes the AR
Server name referenced in the URL
(itsmserver.mycompany.com), exactly as it is shown in
the URL
(2)you can ping the AR Server with the exact name
itsmserver.mycompany.com

Your issue is (1). (2) is likely not an issue for you,
because you seem to have mid-tier on the same server
as AR System.

This is how this URL is formed:

Email Notifications Web Path...which is basically
the path to mid-tier/../AR Server Name/...

Email Notifications Web Path is picked up from here:
Admin Tool, File-Server Information-Advanced
tab-Email Notifications Web Path

It's typically set to
http://mid-tier server name/arsys

AR Server Name is picked up from:
Admin Tool, File-Server Information-General
tab-Server Name Alias

Whether you get only server name or fully qualified
domain name for AR Server name depends, for Windows,
on your Windows setting on the AR Server. If I
remember it correctly, it comes from:
Right click on My Computer-Properties-Computer
Name

If you don't want the fully qualified name, take it
out from there.

Configure itsmserver.mycompany.com as one of the servers on your mid tier

('itsmserver.mycompany.com' to just 'itsmserver') needs to be changed so
that the URL works across all applications and notify actions.

  Please help!!.

  Thanks,
  Prasan.

Approval Server 7.1

2008-02-26 Thread Atul Vohra
Hi All,

I was trying Approval Server in 7.1 - Used a custom form and made the required
join forms etc.

Now I was able to create approval for Demo. But when I go on to the Approval
Central and click on search to get pending approvals - get the following error
message:
*
ARWARN [51] Field ID specified does not exist in this form : 14507

The preceding message occurred during the execution of active link
AP:Central-SetGenericFieldFrom3WayJoinForm -- action 1. (ARNOTE 1101)
*

In the admin tool when I open the above mentioned AL and get to the if action
get the following error:
Form does not exist on server : AP-Sample2:Get Agreement (ARERR 303).

What can be done to get the Approval Central to work.

Platform: ARS 7.1, Approval Server 7.1, Solaris Oracle 10g

Thanks
Atul

Re: Migration from ARS 5.1.2 to 7.1

2008-02-26 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

If we are talking AR System, I would skip some releases, or go straight to
7.1.

Alternative A:
5.1.2 - 6.3.0 - 7.1.0

Alternative B:
- Install 7.1.0 on a new server
- Import the def from the old server, taking special care with some forms
such as the User-form (use RRR|DefFieldDiff to find differences in your
data fields where new fields has been introduced in newer versions)
- Copy the data from the old to the new server (maybe using RRR|Chive)

These free tools can be found at:
https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrDefFieldDiff
https://www.rrr.se/cgi/rrrchive/main

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se

Products from RRR Scandinavia:
* RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing.
* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.
* RRR|Translator - Manage and automate your language translations.
Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se.

 Mario,

This really depends on what you want to migrate..

Do you only want to upgrade your ARS Server version from 5.1.2 to ARS
Server 7.1? Or do you have those OTB ITSM applications that need to be
upgraded from their current versions to a newer one?

Your upgrade has to be incremental going upward with every major delta
version that was released. However before you upgrade from ARS Server
version 6.3 to 7.0 you may need to upgrade the Oracle database to 10g
after bringing down the ARS Server as ARS 7.

So your upgrade path would be ARS 5.1.2 - ARS 6.0 - ARS 6.3 - upgrade
oracle after turning down Remedy - ARS 7.0 - ARS 7.1

Trying to skip a major release may result in corruption of your DB so be
 careful..

NOW if you have got ITSM apps installed that you need to upgrade to ITSM 7
 - thats a different beast altogether.. thats more of a migration than just
 upgrade...

 Cheers

 Joe

Subject: Migration from ARS 5.1.2 to 7.1

 Hi All,

Is there anyone in the list who have migrated ARS from 5.1.2 directly to
 7.1 ?
I'd like to know if anybody faced any situation that requeries more
 atention or effort.

In addition, i need to decide the best migration mode. i personally prefer
 the UPDATE
mode using ar system installer. We did that when we migrated 4.5 to 5.1.2
 and it was OK.

The problem now envolves the migration of the OS ( AIX 4.3 to 5.2 ). Next,
 the
script we are planning to do
1 - Copy ar system filesystem from AIX 4.3 to an AIX 5.2 machine
2 - Start ARS 5.1.2 on this new machine ( Is this really works ? )
3 - Run installer on UPDATE mode

 Scenario
  From ARS 5.1.2 Patch 1389
 AIX 4.3 , Oracle 9i
  To ARS 7.1
 AIX 5.2, Oracle 10

 Thanks

When installing approval server you need to install the samples. Seems
like a bug..

Re: Migration from ARS 5.1.2 to 7.1

Hi,

I forgot one thing.

You may want to run your def-file through RRR|DefHideExpandBox before you
import it. Or you can export/import view-definitions after you have
upgraded.

This tool will remove the probably unwanted expand-boxes that will appear
on the Submitter, Modified By and Assigned To fields on all forms when
upgradeing to version 7...
