Setting up a pre-production server.

2010-02-16 Thread Frex Popo
Dear arlisters,

Anyone would like to share the steps/experience on how to set up a
pre-production/test environment for ARS7.1/CMDB2.1/ITSM7.0.3.

We have a server group consisting of two nodes (node1 passive and node2 active)
pointing to the same database:

DB:       Database MS SQL 2005 (X64)
ARS          7.1.0 Patch 004
OS:       MS 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 (X64)
WebServer:    IBM WebSphere Application Server/6.1
Mid-Tier:    7.1.0 Patch 004
OS:  Windows Server 2003
Java Version: 1.5.0

Node1 has been cloned to a VM-Ware and about to do the same with the databse
instance.

My question is what's next? re-run the server installer and use the upgrade
option? Massage the config files for all the remedy services or re-run the
installers? How do you get rid of all the server group refernces in the
databse? How about licensing? etc etc... The whole process is really to test
the new 7.5 version.

You simply need to create the ARSystem ODBC data source on the client. Drill
down into your Control Panel and select ODBC if on Vista and create a new DSN
using the AR System ODBC Driver. You should then be able to run the report.

Unexplained Explorer behavior within Atrium Core Console

2010-02-16 Thread Ob1 Kenobi
ARS 7.5 patch 003
Atrium CMDB 7.5 patch 003

Hi Listers,

Administrators are supposed to have full access to the Atrium Console per
documentation even though you lose access to the 'Class Manager'
application once you map a group to the Role tied to accessing the 'Class
Manager' application. This is not the issue I'm having but I wanted to
mention it just in case it may have any bearing to the issue I have now. I
also believe this issue occurred even before I mapped a role to 'Class
Manager'.

The problem I have now is while performing actions within the 'Explorer'
application, you all of a sudden are not able to perform any searches
from the Find section any more. i.e it doesn't show you any results no
matter how open you leave your qualification and yes, I've checked the
dataset value I'm searching against.

I've noted how this begins. First, when you click on the 'Explorer' icon,
you get the clock icon which spins once or twice but then disappears
without opening the default BMC ASSET view. The Classes section is
also blank. Within the New View icon I go and select BMC ASSET to open
the view. I then try to perform a search from the Find section setting
the Dataset option to BMC Asset, but I come up with no results. Once
this behavior starts, you're unable to close the 'Explorer' window. You'd
have to exit out of the browser or user tool to exit out of it.

My current work around is to permission a different user with
Administrator privileges and then use this user. Once I do that,
everything starts working okay for a while and then the same behavior
starts again.

Hope someone has come across this issue because I've run out of options
including : Restarting the webserver, servlet engine (tomcat 5), deleting
the cache and cachetemp folders, and flushing the midtier cache.

TIA,
Chike

Update of Style Sheets and ARS 7.5 and ITSM 7.5

2010-02-16 Thread Terje Moglestue
Folks,

I am looking into the possibility to implement our branding standard for ITSM
Suite 7.5 where the logo colour and fonts meets our own standard. Our external
customers are exposed to the Requester Console and our marketing people don't
like what they see.

I have done this in previous versions of Remedy and have found these type of
customizations extremely time consuming to implement. We are now running ARS
7.5 and ITSM 7.5p1. Before I spend any time on it - is there any success
stories out there updating Style Sheets?

I don't want to update all fields, forms and views accessed by our external
customer. Update the Style Sheets must be the way to go! In general we are
mainly talking of change in colours and fonts not font sizes. And BMC's logo
has to go.

Have anyone successfully updated the appearance of selected applications within
the ITSM Suite using the style sheets?

Thanks,
Terje

Check out chapter three of the BMC Remedy Mid Tier Guide. It deals with
which stylesheet rules to change for individual form elements. As far as
the logo across the top of each form, I don't think that's defined in a

change (that's how it was in earlier versions anyway).

Re: Custom notification fields

Marcelo,
See this doc:
http://communities.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-8831

It's a generic document about customizing notifications in ITSM. The specific
answer you are looking for (fields on approval related forms), I suspect, is
not there, but it's a good reference document and might give you some leads.

I was a self-described ITSM 7.x notification expert, but I haven't touched it

useful, I will send it your way.

Worst case...turn on server side filter logging and trace the filters to see

Re: Update of Style Sheets and ARS 7.5 and ITSM 7.5

2010-02-16 Thread Terje Moglestue
Thanks Mike,

I have done my homework and I am well aware of chapter three in the mid-tier
manual. It gives you the basic principle of how to customize style sheets with
AR System.

In the past I have done plenty of work with Style Sheets with or without
Remedy. I have not done any css work with ARS7.x or newer. One of the issues
you will have is to find all tags used by ARS. It would have been great if
ARSystem.css hold all the tags by default - or the system had a css file
holding all the tags. Your only alternative is to find all the tags yourself by
testing.

www.cofeecup.com http://www.cofeecup.com/ got a good Style Sheet Editor for
CSS - files.

Back to my question? Any success stories out there? Changing the apparance of
one the the ITSM 7.5 applications using style sheets? I do remember a old KB of
style sheets and version 6.x but not anything related to Developer Studio, ARS
7.5 and ITSM 7.5.

Thanks,
Terje

Re: Custom notification fields

2010-02-16 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
Rabi,
Thank you for the doc. I've briefly read it but will look at in more detail.
I have done almost everything specified in the doc with the exception of
modifying the filters which push data to the NTE:SYS.. control forms. For
example:

Filter NTE:SHR:TranslateNotificationMessageAPR_135
From: NTE:SYS-Group NT Control ; NTE:SYS-Individual NT Control
Run If: 'Form Name01' = CHG:ChangeAPDetailSignature
Action: Set Fields
Read From: CURRENT TRANSACTION
Field Name: z1D Translation Text
Value: REPLACE($z1D Translation Text$, #Ticket ID#, $Request ID02 Ticket$)

My take is that in order for this to work, a filter has already pushed the
value for Request ID02 to the two NT Control forms. Correct? Well, I need to
find out which filters are pushing that data so I can add my custom fields.

Thanks for the DOC.

Re: Setting up a pre-production server.

2010-02-16 Thread Joe D'Souza
You do not need to run the upgrade option.

Since you have cloned both the application and the database servers, all you
would need to do is, massage the configuration files, and services to
reflect the new server names wherever applicable. Do not forget massaging
the armonitor file as well. That file will have old server references as
well. You may need to touch the host file as well depending on how your
network is configured.

Your second step would be to clean configuration data off any server
references. Applications like AIE, SRM keep hard coded server references in
the configuration data so if you have the AIE component installed as a part
of CMDB, you will need to export the AIE configurations, and re-import them
after cleaning the references. Export and import this data from the
configuration utility using the export and import functions built there..

Ideally the workflow should be free of server references, but in the real
world this hardly is ever true. So you might need to deal with cleaning
server references, from the workflow, before you can really use the new
pre-production/test environment. This may take you the longest time.. The
easiest way to do this is to export all the def files to XML format, and
look for the old server names both FQDN (do this first) and just the domain
name after you look for FQDN's and replace these with @. Also look for old
IP addresses in the workflow and replace these with @. I've seen numerous
developers use IP addresses, to connect their development tool to the AR
System leaving their workflow infested with server references by way of IP
addresses.

Do not really bother about licensing. Just install the new applicable
licenses for the new server, the ARS will simply ignore the old licenses
after it doesn't match that license with its new server name. If you really
want to be anal about it (like I usually am), yes you can delete the license
records of the old server.

Cheers

Joe

Let me see if I have this correct... You created a web service thru the Admin
tool and you can see the WSDL on the WSDL tab of the web service definition

Did you copy and paste the URL viewed on the WSDL definition tab (of the web

Did you flush the cache on the Mid-Tier server?

Subject: Web Services - please enlight me!

Hello everyone,

we're still on 6.3. I'm trying to do something with the Web Services,
so I got started by setting up the PO Example from the ARS manual,
i.e. I've created the PO and Line Item forms and the PO Web Service.

I want to try consume the Web Service from the same ARS machine. In
order to do that, I've created a from called PO Consumer and a filter
with a Set Fields action trying to query a the aforementioned Web
Service. I've entered the WDSL URL from the Web Service into the
'Choose wdsl' field, I'' pressing the 'Load' button and get:

ERROR: URI not found
https://ourdomain/arsys/WSDL/public/the_ip_of_our_ARS_server/PO

The funny thing is, that on the WDSL tab of the Web Service the same
URL displays the WDSL contents. The same URL works just fine in a web
broswer too.

QUESTION: Which route/path is ARS taking when I specify the URL to the
WDSL in a Set Fields action. Is it trying to go from the Admin Tool to
the specified URL? Is it trying from the ARS server to the Mid-Tier?
Or what else? I guess some firewall might be blocking here, but
without knowing what ARS is trying to do here, I can't really help it.
This is really confusing...

Another Web Service question I have is this: When you go to the WDSL
tab in a Web Service, it will display the contents of the WDSL. How do
I get this stuff into a file? I tried with copy and paste, but this
always causes some formatting problems resulting in ARS not accepting
the file.

Thanks,
Mark

Consuming Complex External Web Service Help

2010-02-16 Thread Roys, Eric D
Can this be done via filter mapping or does this require some
middle-ware?

I'm trying to consume a complex web service from an external source and
have hit a snag with the filter mapping.

The construct/hierarchy of the web service is:

Location (top of hierarchy) //i.e. some address
-name (primaryAttribute)
Devices (0 or more child(ren) to Location) //i.e. a host at the
address
-name (primaryAttribute)
-features (0 or more child(ren) contains array of Devices)
//i.e. a host can have one or more components

The results would look something like:

Location
-site123xxx
Devices
-device123
-feature array ref
Devices
-device123_component123
-feature array ref
...

So the parent-child link gets blurred as device123_component123 is a
child to device123- feature array ref not device123. And that can't
be mapped in the filter mapping. Is there anyway to handle this
natively? Have I missed something?

Thanks,

Eric

SQL help needed

2010-02-16 Thread amit dw
Hello All,

Below is the problem and way I was trying to handle it

C_list contains comma separated values of group Id’s. this list contains all
the group id’s associated to a particular login name.

C_list= (1,15005,85,83,84,805)

This variable will be holding up dynamically value in numbers.

For group id numbers in simple sql statement we can get the result
corresponding name using the below query,

Select c105,c106 from t10 where c106 in (1, 101,102,104).

Same query when I tried transforming in a cursor it throws up a compilation
error. The error points out to a fetch statement where we try and fetch the
data from the cursor for one particular group id.

Declare cursor c1 as select c105,c106 from t10 where c106 in(c_list);

Begin

Open c1;

Loop

Fetch C1 into g_num,g_name;

dbms_output.put_line(g_name);

EXIT WHEN C1%NOTFOUND;

END LOOP;

Close c1;

End;

Hope it explains the problem I am facing.

Any suggestions/Comments or previously implemented code will be helpful for
me.

Import Asset Relationships

2010-02-16 Thread Tommy Morris
I am pulling asset records from a Remedy 5.5 system into a brand new
Remedy 7.6 system. I have imported most of the records and poked them
into their correct classes but now I need to build the asset-to-asset
relationships and I have hit a wall. All component records in the 5.5
system were converted (prior to my hire date) from to asset records,
that means that all the SHR:Association records are MAINASSET to
MAINASSET relationships.
Now, how do I import these records into the correct BMC_Dependency
relationships? I can't decipher which are HostedComponents etc so I was
just thinking of Dependency.
Has anyone done anything similar? I guess that it would be the same
process to import relationships from any pre-CMDB version into a CMDB
version of Remedy so any help would be greatly appreciated.

table in question? I can't remember exactly but I do recall something
about cursors not declaring correctly with a PK.

Hello All,

Below is the problem and way I was trying to handle it

C_list contains comma separated values of group Id's. this list contains
all the group id's associated to a particular login name.

C_list= (1,15005,85,83,84,805)

This variable will be holding up dynamically value in numbers.

For group id numbers in simple sql statement we can get the result
corresponding name using the below query,

Select c105,c106 from t10 where c106 in (1, 101,102,104).

Same query when I tried transforming in a cursor it throws up a
compilation error. The error points out to a fetch statement where we
try and fetch the data from the cursor for one particular group id.

Declare cursor c1 as select c105,c106 from t10 where c106 in(c_list);

Begin

Open c1;

Loop

Fetch C1 into g_num,g_name;

dbms_output.put_line(g_name);

EXIT WHEN C1%NOTFOUND;

END LOOP;

Close c1;

End;

Hope it explains the problem I am facing.

Any suggestions/Comments or previously implemented code will be helpful
for me.

2010-02-16 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
First, What database are you using? ( It looks like you may be using Oracle,
but it would be nice to be sure)

Second, What is it you are trying to do? Are you trying to get a list of all
users that are in a specific group or a list of users that are all in a
specific set of groups?

Third, Remember the group list field in Remedy is a string of group IDs and
the IDs can be in any order.

2010-02-16 Thread Joe D'Souza
The second statement should be

select count(*) from t9 where c104 like '1; %' or c104 like '% 1; %';

However I would rather use the view name of the user form which is user_x
instead of t9 because if you are writing code that needs to be migrated
across servers, writing SQL statements on the T tables may not be the best
idea unless in your environment you are absolutely sure that you have the
whole table structures migrated across systems maintaining the identical T
numbers for those tables across environments..

So I would rather prefer the statement

select count(*) from user_x where group_list like '1; %' or group_list like
'% 1; %';

This statement will be good for all environments irrespective of how careful
you are to ensure ideal case database migrations between different
environments...

As far as parsing the group ID's to real group names, if you absolutely have
to do it using direct SQL queries why not try writing a stored procedure to
do it? It may be a lot easier..

Any Administrator user has the right to modify any form..

The only possible way to do what you want to do (with some limitations), is
to have only one single Administrator user whose access obviously is
password protected, and a bunch of sub-Administrators each having an
individual login and password.. Sub-Administrators can be assigned to
specific forms with those Sub-Administrator rights leaving forms that need
not be touched only privileged to the Administrator...

The reason that '1%' will throw a lot of results some of which are not
relevant is because by that you are indicating that all records that have
C104 end with 1 to be returned..

Instead if you use C104 like '1;%' or C104 like '% 1;%' (notice the space
before 1), you will limit the results to wherever there is a 1; only..

I do not have a model code for your other example, but you could check the
SQL that Remedy uses, to convert the string from ID's to name when you pull
up a user record on the user form.. SQL logging will reveal that. They do
not use a stored procedure, but you could use the same SQL logic that is
 used to write your own..

   Hello All,

Below is the problem and way I was trying to handle it

C_list contains comma separated values of group Id’s. this list contains
all the group id’s associated to a particular login name.

 C_list= (1,15005,85,83,84,805)

The error points out to a fetch statement where we try
and fetch the data from the cursor for one particular group id.

Declare cursor c1 as select c105,c106 from

Problem Investigation Cancelled Status Reasons

2010-02-16 Thread Thad K Esser

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what status reasons
are available for a Cancelled problem investigation in ITSM 7.6? I
didn't see a list in the docs anywhere and I don't have 7.6 installed anywhere.

We are on ITSM 7.0.3 patch 9, and the
only status reason for cancelled is Duplicate Investigation.
One of my customers is asking for more status reasons for Cancelled
and I'm hoping to put off that customization until we can get to 7.6.

Thanks,

Well, since those are stored as form data, technically, they wouldn't be
customizations, just configuration changes, right?

Almost.

(This applies to 7.0.3, haven't seen
7.6 yet) There's a hidden enumerated field Invesitgation Status Reason
(I just noticed the spelling - nice) that gets set with whatever the user
chooses from the z1D_Status_Reason field (which is the one that they see
and is display only). Workflow keeps them in sync. The display
only field uses a search menu, so that is just configuration. But
the hidden field is an enumerated field with fixed values for any possible
status reason (not just cancelled).

I can add values to that field, but
it also shows up on a couple of other forms, and I'd have track down any
related workflow. Plus I don't want to use an ID that will be overwritten
in future versions.

All in all, its not a super-duper hard
customization, but I'd rather avoid customizing at all. Being able
to point to options in the next version would help me make my case.

User Tool 7.5.00.004 hanging on ITSM 7.6 application consoles

2010-02-16 Thread strauss
We started seeing very intermittent problems with the User Tool not responding
while testing 7.5.00.003a, mainly with the Incident Console and form. This may
have coincided with the recent update of Adobe Flash Player, as well. It
became a problem across the board after we installed 7.5.00.004.

Today I put 7.5.00.003a on a Vista vm with the older (Oct 2009) Flash Player,
and it loaded ALL consoles, no problem. As SOON as I updated it to patch 004,
it would hang immediately on Incident, Problem, Asset, CMDB, sometimes Change.
It still opens the Admin Consoles, SLM, AIE, Approval, RKM (anything NOT part
of ITSM) without hanging - these have never been prone to hanging in any
version. Updating the server to 7.5.00.004 from 003 did not help. It even
hangs on the User Tool that is locally installed on the AR Server... which
doesn't even have Flash installed.

Anyone else seeing similar issues?

We have seen the problem with clients on:
XP Pro Sp3
Vista Ultimate Sp2
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows Server 2003 Ent x64 Sp2
Windows Server 2008 R2 Ent x64

Well... You can also lock the workflow too.

However that should only be done under extreme conditions. (Like
trying to sell ARS applications.)

Or was that removed in 7.5 ? [ I have not looked for it in that version.]

You do not need to run the upgrade option.

Since you have cloned both the application and the database servers, all you
would need to do is, massage the configuration files, and services to reflect
the new server names wherever applicable. Do not forget massaging the armonitor
file as well. That file will have old server references as well. You may need
to touch the host file as well depending on how your network is configured.

Your second step would be to clean configuration data off any server
references. Applications like AIE, SRM keep hard coded server references in the
configuration data so if you have the AIE component installed as a part of
CMDB, you will need to export the AIE configurations, and re-import them after
cleaning the references. Export and import this data from the configuration
utility using the export and import functions built there..

Ideally the workflow should be free of server references, but in the real world
this hardly is ever true. So you might need to deal with cleaning server
references, from the workflow, before you can really use the new
pre-production/test environment. This may take you the longest time.. The
easiest way to do this is to export all the def files to XML format, and look
for the old server names both FQDN (do this first) and just the domain name
after you look for FQDN's and replace these with @. Also look for old IP
addresses in the workflow and replace these with @. I've seen numerous
developers use IP addresses, to connect their development tool to the AR System
leaving their workflow infested with server references by way of IP addresses.

Do not really bother about licensing. Just install the new applicable licenses
for the new server, the ARS will simply ignore the old licenses after it
doesn't match that license with its new server name. If you really want to be
anal about it (like I usually am), yes you can delete the license records of
the old server.

Cheers

Joe

Dear arlisters,

Anyone would like to share the steps/experience on how to set up a
pre-production/test environment for ARS7.1/CMDB2.1/ITSM7.0.3.

We have a server group consisting of two nodes (node1 passive and node2 active)
pointing to the same database:

DB:       Database MS SQL 2005 (X64)
ARS          7.1.0 Patch 004
OS:       MS 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 (X64)
WebServer:    IBM WebSphere Application Server/6.1
Mid-Tier:    7.1.0 Patch 004
OS:  Windows Server 2003
Java Version: 1.5.0

Node1 has been cloned to a VM-Ware and about to do the same with the databse
instance.

My question is what's next? re-run the server installer and use the upgrade
option? Massage the config files for all the remedy services or re-run the
installers? How do you get rid of all the server group refernces in the
databse? How about licensing? etc etc... The whole process is really to test
the new 7.5 version.

Many thansk in advance

Re: Server config

2010-02-16 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

As long as the files actually reside in different directories, you could
allways have different directories go to different hard drives.

In Unix/Linux it is very easy to link a directory, or even individual
files, to wherever you want in the file system.

On Windows, I think you must mount a hard drive exclusively to a specific
directory (or drive letter).

With this technique you can have Discovery think the files are in the
original place.

As for configurating the location of the Dirscovery data files, I do not
know...

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se

Products from RRR Scandinavia:
* RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing.
* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.
Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se.

 We are discovery 1.6.
For our configuration, is it possible to separate the data files from the
application binaries? To save space, our Management wants to put the
Discovery application binaries on 1 drive, and the Discovery data files
 on
 another drive.

AW: SQL help needed

2010-02-16 Thread Conny Martin
if you turn on sql-logging and search for users belong to administrator
group you will see a statement like this.

SELECT * FROM ( SELECT
T31.C1,C101,C536870913,C8,C536870912,C54000,C54002 FROM T31
WHERE ((T31.C104 LIKE '1;%') OR (T31.C104 LIKE '% 1;%') OR (T31.C104
LIKE '%;1;%')) ORDER BY 1 ASC )

This makes sense because in earlier versions of arsystem the groupids
were separeted by ;space and now it's only separated by ;

The second statement should be

select count(*) from t9 where c104 like '1; %' or c104 like '% 1; %';

However I would rather use the view name of the user form which is
user_x instead of t9 because if you are writing code that needs to be
migrated across servers, writing SQL statements on the T tables may not
be the best idea unless in your environment you are absolutely sure that
you have the whole table structures migrated across systems maintaining
the identical T numbers for those tables across environments..

So I would rather prefer the statement

select count(*) from user_x where group_list like '1; %' or group_list
like '% 1; %';

This statement will be good for all environments irrespective of how
careful you are to ensure ideal case database migrations between
different environments...

As far as parsing the group ID's to real group names, if you absolutely
have to do it using direct SQL queries why not try writing a stored
procedure to do it? It may be a lot easier..
