SRM Read-Only Questions

2012-03-13 Thread Mohamed Abdelaziz
Has anyone been successful in finding a way to provide a read-only question
to the end user on an SRD? I know that it might not make sense but this is
the situation we have. We have few questions on an SRD and we need to
include a text field with a disclaimer for the customer to read it and
confirm acknowledgement by checking a check box. The only caveat is that the
text box cannot be read-only. It's either required, hidden or optional.

Environment Specs:

Oracle 10.2

SRM 7.6.02

ITSM 7.6.0

ARS 7.5.04

Regards,

Moe.

Hi
what form are you running the report on? Are you sure that the form is not a
Join Form? If it is a join form a drill down may give you this error.

Its an assumption at this point that it may not be the issue. I forgot to
mention that it could perhaps be renamed too. From the description of your
environment, it is unlikely that these may be the issues. No experienced Remedy
developer would delete or rename an already deployed form - but accidents can
happen.. That’s a unforgivable crime in our world when it happens :-)

Maybe you could use Ben Cherny's Meta-Update tool to perform a comparison with
what you have on your server, to what's usually available OTB as he has a
spreadsheet with all OTB forms documented. He was just discussing that on
another thread "ITSM 7.6.03 OTB forms that begin with CTM:Ppl% or CTM:PPL%"
that I had started... Not everything missing from the difference you see may
mean a problem as some of the differences could be because of the components
you have installed, opposed to those that were installed when that spreadsheet
was generated. Also the patch you are on would also make a difference..

In the end, flushing the cache should resolve the problem..

Try flushing the Mid-Tier cache. My hunch is you may have deleted the original
form that table field was pointing to, and created a new form, to point it to.

Even if that is not the case, refreshing your Mid-Tier cache would never hurt.

I have seen issues with xWindows windows and RDC (it actually displays on the
PC but RDC does not send that window across because the xWindows app is running
in the console session and RDP is actually a new user login in another session).

Try connecting to your PC thru RDC in a console session
   mstsc.exe /console (or mstsc.exe /admin)

or alternatively set the DISPLAY environment to the second session
DISPLAY=IP:1.0
(You can see what sessions there are by running qwinsta in a dos window on
the PC)

I am at a loss here and was hoping someone on the list has encountered this
issue.

I am trying to do a AR Server upgrade on a SUN UNIX server. I can start an
xterm session using the Reflection X Manager and do an export DISPLAY=IP
Address and start the AR Server 7.6.03 installer and it will bring up the
installer on my desktop display. This works great when I am directly logged
onto my desktop.

However, the issue I am having is when I am using Remove Desktop Connection
(RDC) connected remotely to my desktop and perform that same steps to export
the DISPLAY to my IP Address of my desktop it will not display the AR Server
7.6.03 installer. Is there some setting or trick I am missing to let me see the
AR Server 7.6.03 installer when I am using RDC into my desktop? I have gone
through all the settings on the Reflection X Manager and nothing is obvious
that I need to set to make the AR Server 7.6.03 installer display when using
RDC.

Re: AR Server 7.6.04 patch 3 Installer and Reflection X Manager

2012-03-13 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
I have seen issues with xWindows windows and RDC (it actually displays on the
PC but RDC does not send that window across because the xWindows app is running
in the console session and RDP is actually a new user login in another session).

Try connecting to your PC thru RDC in a console session
   mstsc.exe /console (or mstsc.exe /admin)

or alternatively set the DISPLAY environment to the second session
DISPLAY=IP:1.0

I have gone
through all the settings on the Reflection X Manager and nothing is obvious
that I need to set to make the AR Server 7.6.03 installer display when using
RDC.

Re: Report error on web report drill-down

2012-03-13 Thread Kay Wilthew
Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. Your comment makes me question how a form
could have been deleted when we're using an out of the box Remedy build, and
there has never been any development performed. I am the only administrator
and I've never done any development on our system. Is there a way to identify
which form is missing, and is it really possible for a form to have been
deleted?

Try flushing the Mid-Tier cache. My hunch is you may have deleted the original
form that table field was pointing to, and created a new form, to point it to.

Even if that is not the case, refreshing your Mid-Tier cache would never hurt.

Cheers

When running a web report, the report generates fine but when clicking on the

Any trouble-shooting advice?

Re: Question: oracle clob in a row scenario

2012-03-13 Thread Axton
If you ran and you want to confirm, take a look in the oracle data
dictionary to see the state of the lob storage parameter for each
column.

select table_name || '.' || column_name as "column"
from user_lobs
where in_row = 'NO'
/

The integrity of the data will be fine, but if the alter table
statement takes 10 minutes to complete for a given column and some
other sql (from the arserver) tries to perform and update on that
column while the alter table is running, arserver only waits so long
for the database to response (5 minutes I think). If you hit that
threshold, arserverd will throw and error that the database is not
responding.

It is not unreasonable to assume that some of the alter table
statements will take a long time (more than 5 minutes) to run if the
total time of the alterations is 24 hours.

Other things can/will slow down your conversion as well, such as backups.

Also, the redo space required for the conversion will need to be rather large.

The script you are using may not be as efficient as it could be.
These hints/changes can make a big difference in the execution time:
- parallel hint
- nologging (don't generate redo logs)
- direct-path INSERT (bypass the buffer cache)

I don't know how you are doing the conversion, but each of the things
above are worth looking into.

Re: AR Server 7.6.04 patch 3 Installer and Reflection X Manager

2012-03-13 Thread patrick zandi
ok, this I know..
if you are logging in as the same person installing it.. it should display
back, however if you are installing as root, after logging in, you need to
set the enviorment to ensure it knows where to go..

So ..
Login as joesmith (sorry joe, to use your name again)
env |grep -i display
>> DISPLAY=localhost:10.0
su - >> to get to root
export DISPLAY=localhost:10.0
export HOME=~joesmith

run command..

Now you have to make sure your application is allowing X to come back to
the desktop and is authorized to display back..

Hope that helps..

Re: Remedy 7.6.04 - BRIE Timeouts

2012-03-13 Thread Axton
Check the server statistics too. Your queue/thread configuration
appears to be sufficient for some load, but the queue blocked items in
the server stats will confirm that it's enough. I've been practicing
setting the minimum threads to 1 and the max to wherever it needs to
be. This lets the arserver create new threads for each pool as
needed. The exercise of trying to allocate a thread from a pool and
creating a new one if all the threads are occupied is relatively
simple and the arserver seems to have implemented it well, so setting
a minimum of 1 and letting the server drive the thread count saves
resources where it can. The only exception is the escalation queue,
which needs the min threads defined at a value greater than 1.

There are 4 servers total. Am I correct in assuming that all servers
are in a server group, and all but the admin server are behind a load
balancer? I am still curious about the following things, to complete
the picture:
- server group ranking
- rpc program used by each subsystem (e.g., 390621 is used by the
approval server; 390624 is used by the mid-tier, etc.)
- the server statistics queue blocked count
- With this server count, I am curious if the hanging occurs on all
servers or just one server at a time

Do keep in mind that cache operations can wreak havoc on your servers,
because they are all in a server group together.

Regards,
Axton Grams

I'd be curious to know what you see with this in SP3, since as near as I can
tell it made significant changes to how the mid-tier ehcache handles users and
groups, and changed prefetch from push to pull.

Subject: Mid-Tier Caching Endeavors

Hi all Mid-Tier Admins!

I have had a series of frustrating issues with Mid-Tier 7.6.04 SP2 caching,
that I think I have now come to grips with.

What I did was to create a Group (STUGUN) and a Role (STUGUN) to be used in
customization of the application "Remedy Incident Management". The role granted
access to a set of ACTLs.

What happened was that Mid-Tier failed to recache things sometimes, and some
users with this group (STUGUN) got access to the ACTLs, and some did not.

The same user could get different results depending on which Mid-Tier he
accessed.

My error, I think, is that the STUGUN-Group was set defined as a None-Group.

As it was mapped to a Role, it worked fine to assign permission to it, and it
also worked fine in Remedy User.

When Mid-Tier does its caching, it will create a unique Group-combination based
on each users unique combination of Groups.

For example if a user belongs to:

20213 => Service Request User (Change)

10001 => STUGUN (None, this is my group)

20003 => Incident User (Change)

2 => General Access (Change)

20032 => Asset Viewer (Change)

100021 => 100021 (None) - this is a Support Group

The Unique combination here will be ";2;20003;20032;20213;" where the two
groups with Group-Type "None" has been stripped out.

This is because None-groups should not be able to change access in any way,
except for row-level-access, but that is calculated in another way.

So depending on if the first User with the unique permission map
";2;20003;20032;20213;" belonged to my STUGUN-group or not, the cached file
included/excluded permission to thos STUGUN-Active-Links!

SOLUTION: Change the None-Group to View or Change

CONCLUSION: Never map a None-Group to a Role

Please let me know if my deductions seems flawed in any way!

Turn on cumulative and individual queue server statistics collection
on the servers. Look for queue blocked items in the recorded

Re: Question: oracle clob in a row scenario

2012-03-13 Thread Axton
You may run into timeouts if a table is locked for a long enough
period of time and workflow, or a user, try to update a record in that
table. The same problems that apply to oracle errors in general apply
to this scenario.

Re: Avoiding pop-ups while requiring input

2012-03-13 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
Do not forget to disable the change flag on every field that gets a value
(hidden field or otherwise), else the default form submit button will get
enabled. It may also be a good idea to hide the form bar, so that button is not
visible, in which case it is not necessary to turn off the change flag on
fields...

Hi Ian,

The issue would be stopping things before I hit a submit or modify action, I
think – because then the system will generate a pop-up (on 7.5).

So, like Joe suggested, I think I’ll try a custom submit/modify button and
display the text/color like you mention if the needed fields are null. This
avoids any submit or modify action actually being initiated until the needed
fields are filled in. I guess I could even leave the fields as Required and do
this.

Thanks guys,

David

David,

One way to avoid pop-ups could be as follows:

a.. parse the form on submit and check if any of the required fields are
blank
b.. if so, make a hidden warning text field visible saying something like
"please enter required data"
c.. change the label colour on the fields that are required.
Would that fit the bill?

Re: ITSM 7.6.03 OTB forms that begin with CTM:Ppl% or CTM:PPL%

2012-03-13 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
That actually led me to posting this although there is an internal convention
here to postfix customizations with our customer abbreviations.. I wanted to
make sure that the some of the 5 different conventions were not indeed
customizations that the developer missed putting a prefix to. I thought it was
weird too and there is almost no reason why they should have not stuck to just
2 conventions here CTM:PeopleX and CTM:PPL-X. I would have felt
more confident separating the OTB from customized flow.

The only other way to reassure if its an OTB object is looking at the Change
History on the object where BMC owned objects have something like:
“9/10/2009 9:19:53 PMBMC
Copyright (c) 1991 - 2009 BMC Software, Inc. all rights reserved

BMCVer=7.6.00”

This too, I wonder if its consistent really.. I wouldn’t be surprised if there
are a vast number of BMC owned objects that do not have that ‘signature’ in the
Change History.

Thanks LJ and Chris,

(Sorry, forgot to say I was on ARS 7.5.)
I looked around and couldn't find the option, and it turns out it's not a
7.5 feature - don't see it in the 7.5 docs, but I do see it in 7.6.4 docs.

Hi,

You should see a significant size reduction as well as performance
improvement on inserts/updates :-)

The size was reduced to less than half in the system I was working on, and
the bulk of the data left was actually attachments.

Since you are getting errors like Error while writing to file and no file found
I would guess that you are not running the AR System as the correct unix user.

libclntsh.so.9.0 is part of the Oracle client libraries (so your PATH and
LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variables are not set correctly)

Re: Question: oracle clob in a row scenario

2012-03-13 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I have done that a couple of times without any real problems. It did take
a lot less than 24 hours though, so these systems were probably much
smaller. About 10-15GB if I remember right, and much bigger with out-row
storage.

Re: Avoiding pop-ups while requiring input

2012-03-13 Thread David Durling
Hi Ian,

The issue would be stopping things before I hit a submit or modify action, I
think - because then the system will generate a pop-up (on 7.5).

So, like Joe suggested, I think I'll try a custom submit/modify button and
display the text/color like you mention if the needed fields are null. This
avoids any submit or modify action actually being initiated until the needed
fields are filled in. I guess I could even leave the fields as Required and do
this.

Thanks guys,
David

David,

One way to avoid pop-ups could be as follows:

  * parse the form on submit and check if any of the required fields are blank
  * if so, make a hidden warning text field visible saying something like
"please enter required data"
  * change the label colour on the fields that are required.

Would that fit the bill?

rather detailed Remedy form, and if they get a pop-up & have to reload the

I took out "message" actions from my workflow to avoid this, but there are
still Required fields: if left blank, they use a pop-up box.

Does anyone have a creative way for getting around this for required fields?
Maybe some trick where the fields are not really required on the database side,
but not sure how ensure they are populated without using a message to the user.
Or something else I can do?

Mid-Tier Caching Endeavors

2012-03-13 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi all Mid-Tier Admins!

I have had a series of frustrating issues with Mid-Tier 7.6.04 SP2
caching, that I think I have now come to grips with.

What I did was to create a Group (STUGUN) and a Role (STUGUN) to be used
in customization of the application "Remedy Incident Management". The role
granted access to a set of ACTLs.

What happened was that Mid-Tier failed to recache things sometimes, and
some users with this group (STUGUN) got access to the ACTLs, and some did
not.

The same user could get different results depending on which Mid-Tier he
accessed.

My error, I think, is that the STUGUN-Group was set defined as a None-Group.

As it was mapped to a Role, it worked fine to assign permission to it, and
it also worked fine in Remedy User.

When Mid-Tier does its caching, it will create a unique Group-combination
based on each users unique combination of Groups.

For example if a user belongs to:

20213 => Service Request User (Change)

10001 => STUGUN (None, this is my group)

20003 => Incident User (Change)

2 => General Access (Change)

20032 => Asset Viewer (Change)

100021 => 100021 (None) - this is a Support Group

The Unique combination here will be ";2;20003;20032;20213;" where the
two groups with Group-Type "None" has been stripped out.

This is because None-groups should not be able to change access in any
way, except for row-level-access, but that is calculated in another way.

So depending on if the first User with the unique permission map
";2;20003;20032;20213;" belonged to my STUGUN-group or not, the cached
file included/excluded permission to thos STUGUN-Active-Links!

SOLUTION: Change the None-Group to View or Change

CONCLUSION: Never map a None-Group to a Role

Please let me know if my deductions seems flawed in any way!

Just had a look and it does seem to be related. Dont suppose anyone has any
idea on when SP3 is being released? The only other thing I can try is to use

not to have to wait months for SP3 as it will delay our upgrade plans we

Hi

We have run into a wierd error that we cannot find any reference to on the
ARSList, Manuals or Support web. Hopefully someone here can offer some
suggestions on what we can try next as we are quickly running out of ideas
and have tried this upgrade a few times.

Firstly some background information. We have a Test server running Windows
Server 2008 Enterprise with a seperate DB Server running SQL 2008. We also
have a third server acting as a Mid Tier server also running Windows Server
2008.

We are testing our upgrade strategy on upgrading from ARS Core 7.5 Patch
003, CMDB 7.6 Patch 001 to ARS Core 7.6.04 SP2 and CMDB 7.6.04 SP2. We are
also running ITSM 7.6 and SRM 7.6 Patch 001 however these 2 applications
will only be upgraded at a later stage and we want to leave them on their
current versions.

Now, we have run the Upgrade for ARS core to 7.6.04 SP2 with no errors.
Every looks and works as expected. We then ran the ugprade for CMDB to
7.6.04 SP2 which also completed successfully. The mid tier server is also
ugprade to 7.6.04 SP2 and all applications (Incident, Problem, Change, SRM)
are working correctly, with the exception to this one problem.

When we click on any CI in the Asset Management Application and click on the
"Explore CI' option, the BMC Atrium Explorer opens and attempts to load some
screens - however we then get this error - "Error when calling
getRelatedComponentsAndRelationshipsOverlay"

(Sorry, forgot to say I was on ARS 7.5.)
I looked around and couldn't find the option, and it turns out it's not a 7.5

I completely agree that bypassing the application layer is never a good
idea unless absolutely necessary.. the second option of a custom Last
Modified Date2 set by custom workflow is a better idea as the framework of
its implementation stays within the applications context.

Direct SQL’s if used, MUST be used CAREFULLY. The only reason I thought of
it in this case is that I’m almost 100% sure a Direct SQL when used within
workflow to update a record, does not alter the Last Modified Date or Last
Modified By field. It just updates what is asked to update and bypasses
the application layer altogether and does not update these system fields
even if the SQL was designed to update a AR record.

Out of curiosity (I didn’t have the time to find out the purpose of this
Escalation), what does it do?

My recommendation about customizations is to add and not to delete or
disable objects (

continue to recommend to create another last modified by and date fields.

Question: oracle clob in a row scenario

2012-03-13 Thread patrick zandi
Hey all ,
Odd question, from a person who is not normal.. which is normal.. lol

If you have a production system and you are taking an existing system that
is up and running online
and you do the modify all the lob's from out-row to in-row
is there any issues with doing this while everyone is using it ?

I see nothing obviously stated that you should not run this while doing
audits, or anything..
Does Oracle take care of that scenario, while moving from one way to the
other..

I did one system that took almost 24 hours.. This is why I am asking...

thanks..

Re: ResetKickbackCount" Escalation question .... out of the box escalation seems to be updating every incident older than 31 days

2012-03-13 Thread John Atherly
I looked more into this escalation to see what it is doing and what fields
that it uses and why. I found a filter (HPD:INC:SetFromResolved_Kickback)
that fires when a ticket is reopened that increases the count in the
Kickback count field. Then on the first of the month this escalation fire
and reset everything back to zero. My best guess is that this process is
used for some out of the box report. I think I'm going to recommend to
just disable the escalation.

Instead of the set field operation use Direct SQL in the Escalation.

Direct SQL's will not touch the Last Modified Date to the best of my
knowledge. The side effect is that they will not trigger any workflow
either set for modify action of a filter.

You could try

UPDATE KickBack_Count from HPD:Help_Desk where Entry_ID = "$1$"

z1D Action is a display only field which is set to "RESETKICKBACK", so you
would need to check all the filters that run on Escalations that get
triggered on this value of z1D Action, and see if those actions can be
replicated by direct SQL's too..

That way you could potentially modify the record without touching the Last
Modified Date.

ALTERNATELY, created a Last Modified Date2 field that gets set on
Modifications only when the user is not AR_ESCALATOR.

I have a report the looks for all Incidents modified in the last 10 days
that runs and the escalation called HPD:INC:ResetKickbackCount is killing
my report since it modifies all incidents. Does anyone know any thing

Why not use the run process Application-Confirm-Group to test if
they are a member of the group concerned?

Hi John,

Interesting that you say this.

I saw an issue where an ITSM 6 had its ARS upgraded to 7.1 and this issue
popped up as prior to 7.1 the groups values were as you describe (but not on
every record!). Problem was fixed with a 5 minute Meta-Update script to
update said records into the correct format.

Since 7.1, ARS enforces the group list fields syntax so that "%;x;%" will
work.

Cheers

** Just wondering - what if your group is at the beginning?

Or - at the end..

$GROUPS$ like "%;100140;%"

I think the above query assumes your group is in the middle of a group list?

So - you would have to do something like:

$GROUPS$ like "%;100140;%" OR $GROUPS$ like "100140;%" OR $GROUPS$
like "%;100140"

I am not positive -- just mentioning.

I did do something similar to this recently - and I did have to consider the
case I mentioned.

BMC_GLOBAL_DEFAULT_SRVC CI

2012-03-13 Thread Peter Romain
Hi All,

CMDB 7.6.04 SP2

The BMC_GLOBAL_DEFAULT_SRVC CI appears in the Service field menu on the
Infrastructure Change form.

BMC tells us that this CI should never be deleted.

Does anyone know precisely what it is for? I guess it's to do with the Service
Catalog functionality in Atrium Core.

I can set the status of this CI from its out-of-the-box value of 'Ordered' to
'End of Life' to remove it from the menu but would this affect the
functionality that the CI is there to support?

Cheers

Re: Remedy 7.6.04 - BRIE Timeouts

2012-03-13 Thread Michael Burton

Hi, We get something along those lines when rebuilding service targets. The
only way out of it is to restart arserver and then tomcat. However, we have
found that if we shutdown tomcat on our first (admin) server and then trigger
the rebuilds from the other server, we don't see the timeout issues. This seems
to be the least disruptive way of maintaining a service to our users, but its
far from ideal. Regards -Mike > Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2012 15:34:40 -0400

Re: ITSM 7.6.03 OTB forms that begin with CTM:Ppl% or CTM:PPL%

2012-03-13 Thread Ben Chernys
For the 7.6.04 list, I refer you to Software Tool House’s Freebies page:
www.softwaretoolhouse.com

For 7.6.03 or other servers, simply fill out a Meta-Update trial request,
participate in the “Live Install” service and presentation (under 1 hr.), and
then generate the form and field spreadsheets for your ARS server (which will
include your customisations).

>From the posting to the list of Tue, 2012-Feb-21:

Hi Folks,

A lot of you have asked for fields and labels of ITSM. To help out, we’re
offering a free Excel 2010 Spreadsheet taken from a Pre-configured Stack
Installed ITSM 7.6.04.

As you all know, ITSM is big, some 235,000 fields. We’ve made the original
CSV files also available to you. This will allow you to take slices (say by
form name or prefix) when you are running previous Excel releases.
Instructions for this are included.

Please check out the new “Freebies” section of our web
 www.softwaretoolhouse.com and get the ITSM
7.6.04 Schema and Fields spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet was generated using Meta-Schema with the English locale and
selecting the Default Views for the field labels.

Field labels are used in Queries and are view dependent. All Meta-Update
utilities accept ARS Field Names as well as labels and ids in query
qualifications. There are duplicates as well as fields not in view.

Meta-Schema is bundled with Meta-Update. If you want to run the utility
against your server, please request a Meta-Update trial.

We sincerely hope you use and this spreadsheet.

Cheers
