to know how much you make and how much you can make for them.
That, coupled with how many certified people you have and

Hi Jose,

I am not surprised. I think that BMC has been trying to drop any resellers
not doing their quota for many years. I have a group of friends that has
been doing full time Remedy-consulting for 10+ years, and BMC still has
not seemed interested in having them as a full blown (VAR) reseller.

There are other types of partnerships than reseller. For example Tech
alliance if you have 3rd party products that add on to the BMC product
line. In that case you more or less pay the fee to get on board.

Why do you want to be a partner anyway? If it is access to product support
and upgrades you are after, it might be cheaper and easier.

When I started working with Remedy some 17+ years ago, the reseller where
I was working got 70% of the revenue from product sales, and 30% from
support and consulting. It is definitely not like that any more...

John,

We contacted them a couple years ago and suggested they may wish to
provide SSO Plugin out of the box. They told us they didn't need it as
they had a high quality solution of their own.

Two years and a few million dollars later, I'm still unable to locate

Re: Filter Table Refresh differ if Admin User...

2012-06-20 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

It turned out that if I changed the permission on the table and underlying
join form, the table got refreshed.

This definitely seems like a BUG, as filters should ALWAYS run with
administrator privileges...

 Hi LJ,

 Thank you for the input.

In this specific case, the table is never refreshed.

And I am not doing a table loop, just a Set-Fields with a COLSUM().

And the really strange thing is that the behaviour differ depending on the
 users permission groups...

I agree that there is need for more control over the filter tables!

 Misi,
I can't speak directly to your situation, but I have seen in the past
 that
server table loops don't necessarily refresh the table every time you do
something with them...I have done loops before where the table has a
dynamic qualification, and you set the field that makes it dynamic, then
utilize the table...then within the same transaction, you change that
qual, and try again and it doesn't necessarily refresh the table even
though the qual, and thus the contents should change. Without a
 'refresh
table' option in filters, I've never quite been sure how to get it done.

Subject: Filter Table Refresh differ if Admin User...

 Hi,

I have a 7.6.04 SP2 system, where I am having inconsistent behaviour in
filters depending on if you are an Admin user or not.

This is an outline of the stuff involved
 1. API Call Create Entry
 2. Filter makes Service Call
 3. Filter performs a Set-Fields from a Table Column, which should always
 trigger a table refresh

This is the same workflow as non-admin user, followed by an admin-user
 (Demo):
 http://rrr.se/tmp/rrrlog-service-table-refresh-problem-nonadmin.html#goto
 http://rrr.se/tmp/rrrlog-service-table-refresh-problem-admin.html#goto

I have some times seen strange behaviour inside of filter-service-calls.
This could be related to that.

How is a person to make sure that tables in filters are refreshed
 properly?

 Any comments?

Hi,

All SVT Target that you want to get attached when ticket is transferred from
one tenancy to another, should be grouped under a same Service Target Group.

So that when value for company changes, SVT specific to that company
satisfying the criteria will get attached

** Kelly,
I think you should be OK because instead of going through the SRD question
creation process, you can go to App Admin console, Custom, Service Request
Management, Application Configuration, and then Define Questions Library. That
opens up the form: SRM:QuestionDef_Template
If you manually enter a question and run logging, you should be able to see if
there are any Push Fields actions to any other supporting form. I don't really
think there is but I could be wrong. If there isn't, I don't see why you
wouldn't be able to import questions to this. I am just not sure where the
static menu options are stored.
Hope this helps a little bit.

I should have been more specific, John, thanks for clarifying - I want to be

I would like to know is if anyone has tried to manage by importing items
directly and if there are any 'gotcha's like data that is kept in a secondary
form that has to be coordinated.

For example, I have a field that will be in several forms like Salary Grade
that is not currently in the ITSM data, and I want to load menu items for it. I
type them in to the question definition on the 'Question Management' form, and
hit 'Update Library' to create a standard Salary Grade question and menu. A
month later, several new salary grades are created. I would like to be able to
import the new items into the system to add the new menu items automatically.

There are several fields/menus like this and I'd like to keep them up to date
with an automated feed. I'd prefer to use the 'Library' since it's already
available and would not require creating an extra form to query. So that's why
I was wondering if anyone else had tried.

And I am not doing a table loop, just a Set-Fields with a COLSUM().

And the really strange thing is that the behaviour differ depending on the

 Misi,
I can't speak directly to your situation, but I have seen in the past
 that
server table loops don't necessarily refresh the table every time you do
something with them...I have done loops before where the table has a
dynamic qualification, and you set the field that makes it dynamic, then
utilize the table...then within the same transaction, you change that
qual, and try again and it doesn't necessarily refresh the table even
though the qual, and thus the contents should change. Without a
 'refresh
table' option in filters, I've never quite been sure how to get it done.

 (Demo):

 http://rrr.se/tmp/rrrlog-service-table-refresh-problem-admin.html#goto

I have some times seen strange behaviour inside of filter-service-calls.
This could be related to that.

How is a person to make sure that tables in filters are refreshed
 properly?

 Any comments?

BMC proxy fight - Elliot Mgmt

2012-06-20 Thread Logan, Kelly
Regarding the links that Joel noted (see below), does anyone else have some
insight into the accusations made by Elliot Mgmt? Personally, I'm glad that BMC
did not completely lose themselves in SaaS, what I see as another 'bubble'
technology that will be bursting in the next few years as companies realize how
little value they get from most SaaS vendors, and how much they have to spend
to do even the most basic customization. What are opinions on the sales and
other issues? Any sales/partners that would like to chime in on this?

Re: Filter Table Refresh differ if Admin User...

2012-06-20 Thread Longwing, LJ CTR MDA/IC
Fred,
That is an interesting feature I didn't know existed

Misi,
A few choice notes from the workflow guide, page 303

Workflow Functions
In addition to the Set Fields, Push Fields, and Call Guide actions, setting Get
Data
As to User affects the workflow functions COLCOUNT, COLAVG, COLMIN, and COLMAX.
These functions operate over the columns in a table field. When performed in a
guide that was called by a filter with the Get Data As User set, the entries
and fields
used to populate columns in the table field are limited to those visible to the
calling
user.

And almost more importantly

Filters with Get Data As set to User are identified in the filter log file by
the string
“with data retrieval as user userName.”

So...being all we have access to is your RRR|Log parsed portionsdid this
text display in the filter log? Is the filter in question set with this
restriction?

If your answer to either of those questions is No...then we have a bug
somewhere...I don't recognize 'MOB'...is that a custom application?

There are other types of partnerships than reseller. For example Tech

Why do you want to be a partner anyway? If it is access to product support

When I started working with Remedy some 17+ years ago, the reseller where

  Hi listers,

How difficult is to become a BMC partner?

Well, Two months ago I expected that BMC will be glad to increase their
partnership list. Of course they need to guarantee a quality level on
  their
partners. I assume it. But I expected that they will provide you
a road-map to demonstrate your own value as a potential partner.

Seems that I was completely wrong. I'm trying to contact the Senior

  ago
until now. Do you guess the answer to my demand? NO ANSWER. Seems that
  they
have the partners list full and don't want new ones. This is
 frustrating.
I'm selling their product. I'm convincing their clients to continue on
 the
Remedy way. I'm an active member of the Remedy's community. I
 conforming a
team of developers. And, What I obtain? Nothing.

Sincerely I think that my Remedy team is outstanding. We are creating
 what
other partners previously said to the client that was impossible. In
 fact
one big client decided to move out from Remedy after believing that the
product was a completely failure, and this was only because the
 deployment
made by other partner. We rescued this client, re-deploying it,
  customizing
it to their needs and obtaining a good feedback. So... I'm not asking
  about
What needs to be done to become a partner, but, what needs to be done to
obtain a telephone call from the channel manager or anyone that can talk
  about partnership?

Sometimes I think that this link is a kind of Western Wall, where we
 can
  write our wishes and prays...

Re: To be or not to be a BMC partner

2012-06-20 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
I really fail to see why they should charge a prospective reseller those
large chunks of change to be a reseller. The way I see it is that, every
reseller no matter what the sale conversion ratio is, be it 1 in every 10
years or 1 every quarter - its still a sale. And its not a sale of something
that just costs a few thousand dollars.. Its usually touching the million
dollars.. Does it cost BMC any money to add a reseller to its list? Not
really. It only costs them when they support you through the sales process.
So if they could have just 2 categories, supported and unsupported
resellers, they could probably hit that one odd sale that they might never
make, by adding resellers who wish to not be supported through the sales
process..

IMHO those fees for resellers should be charged only to those onboard
seeking BMC Professional Sales services through the process of converting a
warm prospect into a sale.. But if a reseller decides he has what it takes
to take it to the end by himself, I do not see the point in why he has to
still pay those $'s. Its probably discouraging a good percentage of
knowledgeable SME's who would have liked to play a role of a reseller, from
doing so.

So I wonder what the BMC justification is for those fees for a company or
individual who would wish to be a reseller but would not require their
professional services while going through a sales process..

Hi Jose,

I am not surprised. I think that BMC has been trying to drop any resellers
not doing their quota for many years. I have a group of friends that has
been doing full time Remedy-consulting for 10+ years, and BMC still has not
seemed interested in having them as a full blown (VAR) reseller.

There are other types of partnerships than reseller. For example Tech
alliance if you have 3rd party products that add on to the BMC product line.
In that case you more or less pay the fee to get on board.

Why do you want to be a partner anyway? If it is access to product support
and upgrades you are after, it might be cheaper and easier.

When I started working with Remedy some 17+ years ago, the reseller where I
was working got 70% of the revenue from product sales, and 30% from support
and consulting. It is definitely not like that any more...

Hi listers,

How difficult is to become a BMC partner?

Well, Two months ago I expected that BMC will be glad to increase their
partnership list. Of course they need to guarantee a quality level on their
partners. I assume it. But I expected that they will provide you a road-map
to demonstrate your own value as a potential partner.

Seems that I was completely wrong. I'm trying to contact the Senior Channel
Manager at Spain, asking her about how to become a partner from a month ago
until now. Do you guess the answer to my demand? NO ANSWER. Seems that they
have the partners list full and don't want new ones. This is frustrating.
I'm selling their product. I'm convincing their clients to continue on the
Remedy way. I'm an active member of the Remedy's community. I conforming a
team of developers. And, What I obtain? Nothing.

Sincerely I think that my Remedy team is outstanding. We are creating what
other partners previously said to the client that was impossible. In fact
one big client decided to move out from Remedy after believing that the
product was a completely failure, and this was only because the deployment
made by other partner. We rescued this client, re-deploying it, customizing
it to their needs and obtaining a good feedback. So... I'm not asking about
What needs to be done to become a partner, but, what needs to be done to
obtain a telephone call from the channel manager or anyone that can talk
about partnership?

Sometimes I think that this link is a kind of Western Wall, where we can
write our wishes and prays...

Regarding the links that Joel noted (see below), does anyone else have
some insight into the accusations made by Elliot Mgmt? Personally, I’m glad
that BMC did not completely lose themselves in SaaS, what I see as another
‘bubble’ technology that will be bursting in the next few years as
companies realize how little value they get from most SaaS vendors, and how
much they have to spend to do even the most basic customization. What are
opinions on the sales and other issues? Any sales/partners that would like
 to chime in on this?

Regarding the links that Joel noted (see below), does anyone else have
some insight into the accusations made by Elliot Mgmt? Personally, I’m glad
that BMC did not completely lose themselves in SaaS, what I see as another
‘bubble’ technology that will be bursting in the next few years as
companies realize how little value they get from most SaaS vendors, and how
much they have to spend to do even the most basic customization. What are
opinions on the sales and other issues? Any sales/partners that would like

Re: BMC proxy fight - Elliot Mgmt

2012-06-20 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I've seen these types of situations play out before, and basically what
generally happens is one of two things: 1) the management of the corporation
makes some changes to take the wind out of the sails of the activist
investor(s), or 2) the management of the corporation is replaced by people
chosen by the activist investors. It's clear that Elliot Management has no
interest in what BMC does, and is completely focused on the stock price going
up so they can sell and make a profit as quickly as possible. Based on what
I've seen in the news, it doesn't look like BMC's senior management is budging
even an inch, and it's likely that folks from Elliot have been focused on
getting the institutional stock holders on board with a sale.

Personally, I think a sale could be a good thing (or it could be terrible, but
I prefer to be optimistic.) Dell, for example, has nothing like BMC's toolset,
so it wouldn't be a matter of trying to kill off Remedy or anything else if
they bought it. IBM I would be a little less positive about since they
supposedly have a competitor to Remedy with some modules of Tivoli, and Oracle
is too complex to say one way or another at this point. In any case, I think
Remedy itself is a strong enough product someone would have to be extremely
foolish (like Peregrine's management) to try to get rid of it.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

I am wondering what Elliott's end game is. Are they simply trying to make
stock they own more valuable, or do they have MA ideas? Their actions thus
far could lead in either direction.

We are accepting submissions until the end of the month, go to www.wwrug12.com

On the right is Latest News and under that is Call for Papers.

If your paper is accepted one presenter per presentation gets in free.

Given your company is planning to be a BMC partner etc. you might want to
consider raising your profile

with some sort of sponsorship at the conference, or a booth or kiosk.

I should also remind people that the conference fee goes up as of July 1st.

Costs are higher in California so the current fee is a bargain,

after July 1st it is just really good value for money.

Microsoft Network Loadbalancing with Midtier and AR-Server Group

2012-06-20 Thread Tobias Ziegler
Hi listers,

we plan to implement ITSM 7.6.04 with 3 Midtier servers and an AR-Server
Group of 2 AR Servers.

As we do not have a hardware loadbalancer available we try to figure out
if software loadbalancing is a possibility.

Do you have experience with Microsoft NLB in an ITSM environment? Does
it work without any problems? Or do you alternatively prefer a specific
product of Vmware virtual loadbalancing appliance?

I would be happy about any comments.

Regards,

Tobi

Re: BMC proxy fight - Elliot Mgmt

2012-06-20 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Most of the stock is held by non-BMC folks. According to
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=BMC+Major+Holders it says that 91% of the
shares are held by institutional and mutual fund owners. For example, the top
mutual fund holder according to that is DODGE COX STOCK FUND which has 5.10%
of the outstanding shares (8,215,140.) Compare that with Bob Beauchamp, who
has 658,211 shares. 6.5% is a huge amount, and the different investor groups
that make up that 91% are more likely to sympathize with Elliot Management than
with BMC's internal management.

Thanks,

Execution option 'Search' in an Active Link

2012-06-20 Thread Atul Vohra
All,

We 7.6.4 and was checking documentation for 'Search' option in an AL and found:

Executes when a user performs a search operation. The active link executes
before the search operation so that, if the active link criteria is not met,
the If actions are not performed. (If Else actions exist, they are performed.)
To prevent a specific search from occurring (such as an unqualified search),
you can have the active link return a message (such as an error); otherwise,
the search is performed. You can also use active links to set fields to modify
the search.

NOTE The active link can access and assign values in the Search window,
including the Search Bar if the reserved Search Bar field is present on the
form.

Question: Which field (or Keyword) stores the search string being sent to the
database? I needed to validate it in an AL on the 'Search' operation.

Thanks
Atul

Is there a bug in the Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 6?

2012-06-20 Thread Pruitt, Christopher (Bank of America Account)
Hello Fellow Listers,

I did open a ticket with BMC Support but I find that I can get my questions
answer on the ARSList much faster so here goes.

I have a question for you Is there a bug in the Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 6?

We have a drop down menu on a Display Only form. If the user clicks on the
field it will not let them type any value into that field. So far this is what
should ALWAYS happen. However, if they select the drop down menu and then
cancel it and the cursor is still in that drop down menu field the user can now
start typing a value into that field. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN.

It does not do that with the User Tool only the mid-tier and only for version
7.5. Our Mid-Tier 7.1 version does not act in this manner. It works like it
should the user can never type into the field only select from the drop down.

Is there a bug in the MidTier Version/Patch- 7.5 Patch 6 that is allowing this
to happen when it should not?

Here is our Environment Profile:
OS/Version-Windows Server 2008 64 Bit R2 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1
ARS MidTier Version/Patch- 7.5 Patch 6
WebServer/Version- Apache Tomcat Server 5.5.28

Re: Microsoft Network Loadbalancing with Midtier and AR-Server Group

2012-06-20 Thread Axton
Based on this it looks possible:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742455.aspx

You will need to make sure that you set the client affinity correctly for
the midtier and arservers.

It looks like you will be missing out on some commonly used features of a
load balancer since the MS Network Load Balancer looks to all be layer 3:
- OSI layer 7 capabilities (cookie manipulation, ssl offloading, etc.)
- health check capabilities are very limited (cluster node heartbeat)
- SNAT capabilities, where needed

If you want those capabilities, there are other options available:
http://haproxy.1wt.eu/
http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/software/ktcpvs/ktcpvs.html

Do you have experience with Microsoft NLB in an ITSM environment? Does it

Maybe it's time for an open letter on behalf of the people who actually use BMC
software to inform the stockholders of the dangers of allowing a private
investment firm to push their own people onto the board of directors because
they haven't been able to make a compelling enough business case to make the

5. TO VOTE ON A STOCKHOLDER PROPOSAL SUBMITTED BY ELLIOTT ASSOCIATES, L.P. AND

THE COMPANY'S AMENDED AND RESTATED BYLAWS, AS SET FORTH IN THE PROXY STATEMENT.

2012-06-20 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
I’m trying to replicate this – what are the exact steps you do to replicate it?

I have tried
1) Clicking on the drop down field to reveal the menu
2) Press Escape to cancel click on the drop down
3) Tried typing and nothing happens as it should be..

I am however on 7.6.03 – but is this the way you reproduce it on 7.5 patch 6?

Hello Fellow Listers,

I did open a ticket with BMC Support but I find that I can get my questions
answer on the ARSList much faster so here goes.

I have a question for you “Is there a bug in the Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 6?”

WebServer/Version- Apache Tomcat Server 5.5.28

companies realize how little value they get from most SaaS vendors, and
how much they have to spend to do even the most basic customization. What
are opinions on the sales and other issues? Any sales/partners that would
like to chime in on this?

Hello Fellow Listers,

I did open a ticket with BMC Support but I find that I can get my questions
answer on the ARSList much faster so here goes.

I have a question for you “Is there a bug in the Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 6?”

Re: Is there a bug in the Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 6?

2012-06-20 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
7.5 was a very shaky release, and full of bugs so I wouldn’t be surprised you
are having issues like that.. For the very short time I was exposed to that
version, it was a living nightmare for me as a developer. Things that you would
have taken for granted and built your code within minutes wouldn’t work the way
it should and it took me at times a few hours if not a entire day to figure a
workaround for something you would develop in 20 minutes on a regular day with
a more stable option..

I would not stay on it for very long if you are on an upgrade path from a lower
version. I would get off it as soon as I could. In fact if you are on an
upgrade path and have the ability to revise your roadmap, I would slate a
upgrade to 7.6.x almost as soon as you had 7.5.x up and running..

That being said, avoid staying on 7.6.03 and the release version of 7.6.04 for
too.. 7.6.04 release 2 onwards is fairly stable..

Joe

PS: I did recently discover a display type bug on edit masked fields of 7.6.03
where the information in that field would be displayed as clear text under
certain conditions.. I just thought I may share that...

Hi,

I missed this feature too... I usually read the release notes quite
thoroughly, but I did not see this. Which version was it introduced?

RRR|Log does not strip out anything from the logged lines, but in this
case I checked the setting for Data Access - Get Data As, and it is set
to System, not User. So it seems like this is actually a bug then...

 Fred,
That is an interesting feature I didn't know existed

 Misi,
A few choice notes from the workflow guide, page 303

 Workflow Functions
In addition to the Set Fields, Push Fields, and Call Guide actions,
 setting Get Data
As to User affects the workflow functions COLCOUNT, COLAVG, COLMIN, and
 COLMAX.
These functions operate over the columns in a table field. When performed
 in a
guide that was called by a filter with the Get Data As User set, the
 entries and fields
used to populate columns in the table field are limited to those visible
 to the calling
 user.

 And almost more importantly

Filters with Get Data As set to User are identified in the filter log file
 by the string
“with data retrieval as user userName.”

So...being all we have access to is your RRR|Log parsed portionsdid
this text display in the filter log? Is the filter in question set with
 this restriction?

If your answer to either of those questions is No...then we have a bug
 somewhere...I don't recognize 'MOB'...is that a custom application?

And the choices for Data Access are: System | User

It turned out that if I changed the permission on the table and underlying

This definitely seems like a BUG, as filters should ALWAYS run with

 Hi LJ,

 Thank you for the input.

In this specific case, the table is never refreshed.

And I am not doing a table loop, just a Set-Fields with a COLSUM().

And the really strange thing is that the behaviour differ depending on
 the users permission groups...

I agree that there is need for more control over the filter tables!

 Misi,
I can't speak directly to your situation, but I have seen in the past
that server table loops don't necessarily refresh the table every
time you do something with them...I have done loops before where the
table has a dynamic qualification, and you set the field that makes
it dynamic, then utilize the table...then within the same
transaction, you change that qual, and try again and it doesn't
necessarily refresh the table even though the qual, and thus the
contents should change. Without a 'refresh table' option in filters,
I've never quite been sure how to get it done.

Both. Abstract gives you acceptance (or rejection),

but if your final paper is not good or not on schedule you can still be
rejected then

(and yes, that does mean you would then have to pay to attend if it is then
rejected).

Not sure if that has happened before. IF you do a good submission you are
probably

capable of doing a good final paper.

OK. So I have a week to convince my boss to sponsor me to go to the

Remedy DB refresh and Business Objects

2012-06-20 Thread Peters, Ron
Hi all,

I'm working through a developing a process for refreshing our dev/qa
environments with production data. We dumped the data from production into dev
and I've done a lot of cleanup and re-pointing so Remedy/ITSM is working
correctly. That part seems to be fine.

The issue I'm having is that our BO reporting server seems to now be pointing
to production. I logged into CMC as administrator yesterday and there was
nothing in the environment. No reports, users, groups (other than defaults), as
well as our license string. I restarted BO and Tomcat today because I again
couldn't log in and now when I log in, I see production reports that
successfully ran this morning.

First of all, I wasn't expecting our BO environment to be affected by the data
refresh. In any case, we had this implemented by a contractor and I'm not fully
clear how BO connects to the database and where those settings are kept. Any
thoughts as to where I might look?

Thanks in advance,
Ron

The BO related metadata is stored in the DB under the BOAdmin schema, Remedy
data is under ARAdmin. I'm not sure of the steps to get you back pointing to
your dev environment. We did something similar and wound up having to pull a
contractor back in (the one who set everything up) to clean it back up. I
believe you have to repoint all the universe connections and report connections
in CMC but I know there were a number of steps he had to go through.

Re: Remedy DB refresh and Business Objects

2012-06-20 Thread Gangji R
You will need to repoint the BOXI universe (the ITSM universe) to your dev DB.
That connectivity info is resident on the BOXI server and so even though you
have successfully managed to port ARS between the two systems, the BOXI
connection to the ARS DB has not been updated.
You can re-point this via the BO designer. Open the universe in designer and
if my memory serves me right, go to Tools -- Connection and you should be able
to re-point to the correct ARS DB from there.

Hope this helps!

I am not an expert with the BO but recently had to self learn while trying
to deploy BMC Analytics solution.
I am assuming you are using BO with BMC Analytics.
When BO is installed it has two options
a) Installer installs a small MySQL dirby database within the BO
installation to store BO related meta data.
b) Use a different data base that is managed separately like if you have
defined your own database to use with BO.

Incase if you have used option 1, the production refresh should not impact
BO at all because all the meta data is stored locally on the BO server.
If you used option 2, the production refresh to dev should not impact BO if
you only copied ARAdmin schema.
But if your DBA moved the BO schema also from prod to dev then it makes
sense that your dev BO is now pointing to prod remedy.

What you can do is, launch your dev BO Designer tool and reimport the ITSM
universe and just change the connection parameters and specify the dev
oracle connection parameters..
That way all your dev BO reports will now get the data from your dev remedy
database.

 Hi,

The general answer is that you should design the data layout according to
your needs, i.e. are you considering using SW license management in Asset
Management module, what reports you are intending to create etc.

To answer your specific questions I can provide the following answers
(based on how ADDM data gets transferred to CMDB, so assume it is
consistent with how the CMDB model is intended to be used):

 1. I think you got the classes spot on (there is a Data Modelling
Guide document available which might also help in case you did not use it)

 2. A separate CI in IP EndPoint class and then use HostedAccessPoint
 relationship

 3. See above. For installed SW, OS and CPU CIs you can use Hosted
System Component relationship (requires System Name attribute to be
 populated on the related CIs).

 4. One instance per installation with the CI name set as combination
of SW product (or OS) and host name (as you have it) and then use the
Product Name to define what the product is and to search for all instances
 of the given product/OS.

 Hope this helps

 CMDB gurus,

We are trying to do a proto type on Atrium CDMB.

Need guidance for indentifying the correct cmdb classes and relationships.

I took an example of our remedy system and trying to represent it in CDMB.

Attahced the spreadsheet with class information I identified so far.

Basic info about our remedy system:

Two Midtiers loadbalanced(RemedyWeb1,RemedyWeb2) hosted on two virtual
 machines WebVM1,WebVM2.

Two ARServers loadbalanced(RemedyAPP1,RemedyAPP2) hosted on two virtual
machines AppVM1,AppVM2 as a server group.

Oracle Database installed on two virtual servers as cluster. DBVM1, DBVM2.

Loadbalanced VIPs are WebVIP1, AppVIP1 for web and app layers.

All the servers are on Linux. Tomcat is installed for Web.

App Servers have ARServer, Atrium, ITSM, Email Engine components.

All the VMs are carved out of a big physical server.

 Questions I have so far:

 1. What are the classes that I need to user for

ARServer, Atrium, ITSM, Email Engine, Oracle Instance, Tomcat, Miditer?

The relevent classes I can think of are BMC_Product, BMC_Application,
 BMC_Application Service.

 2. For the IP Address of each server, should we store it as an attribute
to computer system or as a relationship?

 3. What are the different relationship types that are in play here?

 4. Do I need to create one instance per linux install or just create one
generic linux instance and relate it to all VMs or

do not even create a linux CI, just store it as an attribute on the
 computer system class?

Re: Remedy DB refresh and Business Objects

2012-06-20 Thread Peters, Ron
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Object Owner: As for the object owner, from what little I know about databases,
it seems that it is in the form of [owner].[object]. In our case the owner on
all the objects is 'dbo' which from some quick google surfing is the default
when a DB is created. I'm not sure this is going to help.

BO Designer: When opening designer on our BO system, it asks for user
credentials on a specific system. I have 3 systems in the pulldown:
devsystemname, qasystemname, and prodsystemname. I choose our Dev system and
log in. Once in, in the title bar of the application, it says: Universe
Designer - [Administrator - @prodsystemname:6400]. When I log into the prod
environment, it displays the same thing (prodsystemname). When choosing
'Import', there are no available universes. When I try to open a saved copy of
the dev universe to re-export, it says I'm not authorized since that universe
belongs to a different CMS.

I know where the connections are in the universe, that is if I could import it.

I believe it's correct in saying I share a DB between AR and BO. I'll likely
have to back out but are there any more thoughts on moving forward so I only
get the proper elements? Ideally I'd change a pointer somewhere and be back in
business. From my experience with this product suite, I'm sure it won't be that
simple.

Thanks again,
Ron

When you export a report to file, ARX or ARXML all the attachments get dumped

reality happens...sometimes in unexpected ways.
Another option you may not have considered is to use the migrator tool to
migrate the data only to a file, then you can turn around and migrate that data
into another server, that way you have a single complete export.

Give it a try, never know, it might work! :p

BMC Remedy Upgrade - Experience and Lessons Learned

Abstract:

Keeping pace with new releases of Remedy can be a difficult task for large
enterprises such as Dell, given the multitude of integrations, custom code,
impacted users, etc. The objective of this paper is to share learning from
the past two ITSM upgrades at Dell including the upgrade to 7.6.04 SP2, and
provide advice that can jumpstart activities at other companies who are also
contemplating an upgrade.

Topic:

Small Customizations for BMC Service Request Management to create Big Impact

Abstract:

In today's world, the BMC applications are sold as full solutions - ready to
deploy as-is. Every project starts with a mandate that THERE WILL BE NO
CUSTOMIZATIONS. Is this realistic? Is it always worth the pain of holding
that line? This presentation will address those questions as they pertain to
a BMC Service Request Management deployment. You will learn some general
guidelines to follow around customizations of the SRM product and you will
receive instruction on some specific customizations that will provide you a
large return of customer satisfaction on the investment of implementation
and maintenance.

Synopsis:

Effective Technologies has participated on some level in numerous BMC
Service Request Management deployments. Their experience goes from the early
days of 2.2 to the bleeding edge of the current release. This presentation
is a technical talk. We will provide you with guidance for evaluating
customizations to the BMC Service Request Management Solution. This
presentation will address the following issues:
. When are customizations warranted?
. Is the customization worth the cost of maintaining it?
. What will I have to do to maintain this customization going forward?
. Where are the pain points that your customers are likely to call out if
you don't do any customizations?
. How can I use overlays to ease the pain of upgrade?

In addition to the general rules, we will discuss details about some very
particular customizations that we keep in a toolkit to use at customer sites
as required. Code will be provided on our web site for at least some of
these customizations. They will include:

. Auto-populating fulfillment items with request details, without building
complex mapping rules.
. Making fulfillment details more visible to the Requester (such as pending
approvers or service target information on a fulfillment change request.)
. Sharing Work Info entries between fulfillment items (including tasks.)
. Allowing update to fields such as Expected Date for communication back to
the Requester.
. And More.

This talk is targeted for BMC Remedy Administrators who will be responsible
for implementing and supporting customizations, as well as project owners
and business analysts who will own the process of getting customer sign on
the finished Service Request Catalog.

The Power of Information

Abstract:

Good timely reporting and accurate information is key to supporting your
business. Every company collect tons of data daily and the biggest challenge
faced today is really how they make that data become valuable information to
drive the business. We will be talking about how we were able to accomplish
that thru the BMC Analytics product. We will discuss what were the
challenges that we faced and what actions we took to transform collected
data from ITSM (and other sources) into actionable business information.

Synopsis:

Here are some of the topics we will talk about:

. Information at a click of a button with BMC Analytics -The value of
accessing real-time accurate business information, to support your
decisions, with a couple of clicks
. Integrating ITSM data with data from other sources to provide End to End
reporting through BMC Analytics
. Overcoming challenges of a complex environment that has multiple clients,
regions and time zones
. How to configure BMC Analytics to support your business and maintain the
ability to perform low risk, low cost, upgrades

Re: Query for measuring Attachment length

2012-06-20 Thread vikram betholi@friends
IF i put the Attachment size in the ar.cfg file as 2MB, it applies to all
the customers i have which i really dont want. This 2MB size attachment is
specifically for a single customer, which i need to validate before the
respective WEBSERVICE gets called.

I heard like we can write a DIRECT SQL to measure the length of an
attachment. But I am not able to write it. If any one knows pls let me know.

Hi Misi,

Thanks for ur quick response. But,Sorry to say that i really didn't
understand what u were trying to say.Can you somewhat elaborate it?

With Regards,
B.Vikram.

 Hi,

If you set a Character Field to $Attachment Slot$, you will see the name
of the attachemnt prefixed by the Compressed and Uncompressed size, with a
delimiter. It is not hard to parse out these numbers if you need to.

If you need this as individual fields, store it in an Integer field.

  Vikram,
If you don't want to allow 2MB, why don't you just set that as the
maximum size of the attachment field, and let Remedy handle the errors?
