Hi,

I have found one thread on web
http://old.nabble.com/Re:-Virus-Scanning-Remedy-Attachments---p3614885.html

Which in short means:

We can make use of Filters that fire on Create/Modify that check to see if
there is a change in an attachment.
The actions taken are

  1) Use special run process to Save the attachment to disk
PERFORM-ACTION-SAVE-ATTACHMENT

  2) Use special run process to Add the attachment just saved back to the
system
PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT

Virus checking software on server will check virus for saved attachment and
then we can load a "Scanned" copy of attachment.

Subject: security risk with attachment - Any ideas?

HI all,

I am hoping that someone else on the list had to face this growing
security concern and found a way to do this.
This is the concern that came back from a security audit:

"Attachment are not being scanned at the server level and the application
can only rely on the fact that the user may or may not use a scanning
system (anti-virus for example). This does not prevent user to willingly
add a malicious file. The files should be scanned to stop SVG files to be
uploaded at the server level."

I know I can have an API that would run on the server and would look at
the tickets created and if there is an attachment, to extract it and scan
it etc. But any one has a better idea? Or knows of some utility that is
already out there that could do this?

Thank you,

Using overlays in a non-ITSM system.

2012-08-27 Thread Reiser, John J
Hello Listers,
MS SQL 2005
MS Windows Enterprise Server 2003 on a virtual machine
ARS 7.6.03 Build 001

Though we are not using the ITSM suite here I was wondering if there is any
benefits to using either the best practice setting in the Dev Studio or
incorporating overlays to my own forms and any additions to BMC system forms (
User, Group, AR System email Messages etc.)

I haven't had the chance to take any Developer classes utilizing Overlays, best
practices, Panels, Data Visualization and just about anything new in the
ARSystem for the last few years.

Could it be useful to manage my own updates if I build a core base and then put
the customer changes into an overlay or am I wrong about how the overlay is
used?

Hi listers,

need a small clarification,

7.5.00 Patch 006 SW00392339

have an issue here in Incident management.

was going through some ticket to be more precise got an issue reported,

a ticket was riased with goal time of 8 hrs and was assigned to 1st
level with 24hrs clock
SLA start when status = assigned ans stops when status= in progress(response)
Now the 1st level assigned the ticket after the ticket has gone past goal time
Now the ticket is with a new group and for this the business entiry is
9 hrs per day and as per calculation for this group the response shuld
show sa Met.

Both this SLA's are group as both runs for the same company, priorty
and other conditions.

Now my question is will the SLA status show as missed and will it
change to Met when a new SLA is attached and is well within the time?
i doudt it will carry the same status as missed but i do not have a
concrete answer for giving the justication.

2012-08-27 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I have used overlays just like you describe.

Do my changes in Best Practice Mode, and then propagate the changes to
Base Mode when they are approved. Or just delete the oberlays/custom
objects that did not get approved.

The current main problem with this is that there is no way in Dev Studio
to do this. I built RRR|DefBPCU to convert the exported def file
instead...

The other problem is that you can not work with Deployable Applications in
Best Practice Mode...

Kevin,
Data Import tool, to the best of my knowledge, does not support pipe
delineationso you would need to use some sort of script to convert it to
comma delimited. The entire process can be done relatively easily with Perl if
you are familiar with it...I'm sure there is a module which will convert the
data from one to another for you, and the rename/move/etc would be easy enough
as well.

I just loaded this in a lab and we are in the process of moving into
production. I haven't seen any issues yet. We are having issues getting
the isap_redirect to work with IIS 7.5, so if anyone has insight that would
be great. For Analytics we ended up running a seperate Tomcat 7.0.29
server and installed it under the Business Objects install directory.
During the BOXI install it does ask for the Tomcat 5.5 path. We were able
to put the 7.0.29 path and the install went through. When we setup BOXI on
the same tomcat as mid-tier it was painfully slow. The difference was
night and day with the seperate tomcats, so far no issues on that either.

Re: SLM issue

2012-08-27 Thread Jose Manuel Huerta Guillén
At the SVT definition, if set at advanced mode there is a check box that
you can use:

Reset goal: When some conditions are met, the current measure is closed and
a new one starting from 0 is created. That means that a single request can
create multiple SVT measures.

The reset goal condition is defined at the data source.

Using the reset goal condition you can measure if one group has taken more
than 8 hours to go to In Progress state. But you won't know which group has
been. To know it you need separate SVT for each case.

ARS 7.6.04 SP2

I have a requirement that multiple text files will be placed on a network
share drive every 30 minutes. The requirement is for me to import these
files into a custom form in Remedy. The customer is set on using pipe
delimited text files and is not interested in switching over to webservices
or pushing the text file into a DB table and then create a View form. The
integration must be using pipe delimited text files.

Every 30 minutes, one or more files is dropped into a folder, i.e.
and dropped at 12:30; at 1:00 PM is dropped in the folder.
I must grab the files at 12:30 and import them into a custom form. After
they have imported into the custom form, I need to rename the file or move
it to another directory so they dont import twice. I then repeat the
process at 1:00 PM.

Can this be done using ARImport from an escalation or AIE or some other
method other than webservices or a View form?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Kevin

Re: CMDB Fields for FTS indexing

2012-08-27 Thread Nathan Aker
Not directly on topic, but we've basically put a moratorium on any additional
indexing of fields by the FTS engine as it seems to have more than enough
trouble handling the load from the base application functionalities with
7.6.04. Careful how much you ask it to index, I know we're not alone as I've
seen a number of posts from others having to monkey with the FTS configuration
to get this beast to simply do the jobs BMC has asked it to do in the 7.6.04
ITSM apps. We've got all FTS plugins now running on one server per BMC
direction and still have hiccups from time to time with it getting choked up.

I have currently enable FTS indexes on above fields on BMC.Core:Base_Element
form but when ever i search newly created CI I am not able to search it until i
re index whole FTS .

I have seen that there are some FTS limitation for data re-indexing on join
form and need to schedule the data scan for those join forms which causes very
high CPU & memory utilization.
Also the Best practice development mode doesn't allow to modify the fields on
join form and i need to switch base development to modify those forms & its
property which i think is not a good idea.

I am not sure how to achieve this on CMDB forms as everything is based on join
form structure and its very difficult to enable FTS on all the CMDB classes.

Hi,

The ARImport .ARM file format support any delimiter.

It might be difficult to build a robust 30-minute import using arimportcmd
though.

You might consider building an API-program to do this, including error
handling. C, Java, ARSperl, .Net come to mind.

Re: Auto-Import a Text File

2012-08-27 Thread Jose Manuel Huerta Guillén
We planned an integration using a similar communication link, a file placed
at a FTP account. The idea was to integrate with a CMMS. The solution we
provided was to create a java script that fired when creating a file at a
forlder, read it and sent it using a web service. The java analyst said one
day for developing and testing, so I assume it was easy. Fortunately, the
IT office declined this integration method and required the CMMS developers
to create a web service interface.

I think that it would be easier to develop an external agent that uses the
API, or if you don't have any API expert, using a web service would be
easier.

Updating the SVT requests

2012-08-27 Thread Jose Manuel Huerta Guillén
Hi listers,

I need to create a report on daily basis using BOXI. This report reads the
SLM:Measurement form and HPD:Help Desk, looking for all measures for open
incidents. This report will be generated automatically by night and the PDF
sent to a Sharepoint site. Thus, the manager can see at the morning a
summary of its service. But I noticed that the SLM:Measurement request do
not update so frequently as expected. In fact I have an incident that is
not updated for a week, and the SLM:Measurement is also one week old.

Do you know how to force to recompute an SLM:Measurement. Thus I could run
an escalation two hours before generating the report, recomputing all
opened measurements.

The only place it would be useful is when maintaining modifications done to
any of the OTB workflow if any such as the core forms and workflow..

Else it won't quite gain you much, at least not in the current versions.

There was talk about future versions of overlays that would change in its
design, which may benefit an all custom shop, but in its current version,
there is no benefit I can think of, since you are the master of it all and
are free to add or delete from what you currently have with little or no
impact, if done the right way..

Hello Listers,
MS SQL 2005
MS Windows Enterprise Server 2003 on a virtual machine
ARS 7.6.03 Build 001

Though we are not using the ITSM suite here I was wondering if there is any
benefits to using either the best practice setting in the Dev Studio or
incorporating overlays to my own forms and any additions to BMC system forms
( User, Group, AR System email Messages etc.)

I haven't had the chance to take any Developer classes utilizing Overlays,
best practices, Panels, Data Visualization and just about anything new in
the ARSystem for the last few years.

Could it be useful to manage my own updates if I build a core base and then
put the customer changes into an overlay or am I wrong about how the overlay
is used?

Thank you,

Re: Remedy form object and Oracle table relationships

2012-08-27 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Susan,

I agree that what Misi describes is the best way to go about it.
Admittedly I have never had to resolve this issue but it is consistent
with the other Remedy data translation/transition scenarios. A while back
I was talking to a Remedy admin who's DBA told him the DB was Unicode when
it wasn't. He installed ARS as Unicode and some time later issues began to
arise. BMC's recommendation was to build a new system with matching
character sets and to export the data out of the broken system and import
into the new system using the AR API (import tool, etc.).

some 'miracle'. We just basically did the full build new dbs/servers last
year when we couldn't make our 7.01 to 7.5 upgrade work. It should be
noted that when using oracle you don't actually choose unicode in Remedy,
it installs based on how oracle is installed. Wish I had paid more
attention to that fact last year.

Regarding the import of tables/objects, that was not a pleasant
experience. It changes all the table ID's which caused problems in other
applications using Remedy. Of course now we have a list of those, guess
they can be modified again. Hopefully they took my advice to use table
names not ID's.

We have a freeze beginning in November during our customer's busy season so
we've basically run out of time this year. We'll tackle it next year and
since it's a total new install may consider ARS v8.0 right away, and oracle
11g. I was looking at the compatibility chart regarding linux but that
seems a little confusing about using that and I haven't checked further.
We'd really like to move away from the oracle costs.

We're also moving to a new location in April so I'm think we'll be
postponed until June/July which may work well with v8. Gives the early
adopters time to work out the kinks!

Thanks again for your input ...

Susan

See you at RUG!

Fresh install is always best. I have brought the system over from a copy and
it is really amazing that BMC embeds and has so many individual configuration
files (I would think progress would bring them to 1 main configuration file)
rather than some 35 file system locations / if I include java locations and
host names and ip's some 45 or so locations plus several locations in the
schemas it is really nutty !

* All decisions of myself or the oversight panel are final
(if I have to make a controversial decision, I confer with 3 past MVP winners
for their opinion)
