Thanks for you response,

We just need to have that group list history in a diary field as from
"before" to "current"
e.g. Group List changed from "SO-admin, SO-user" to "SO-admin, SO-user,
DDD-user"

Group IDs --> Group Names

2016-03-18 Thread Andrew Fremont
Hi List

We need to capture the changes on the "Group List" on the User form. In the
filter the 'Group List' is returned as the list of ids separated by
semi-colon, e.g. "480;481;" Instead, we really want that list more
friendly/human-readable as the group names.

We could add filters to parser each id from the list and get the name from
the Group form. I'm wondering if there is a better way to convert this ids
to names?

Thanks
Andrew

Just to help (maybe) solve a long standing problem, let me point this out.

I ran a Google search for a quote from the excerpt you cited from the
 product documentation:

The fast queue handles the operations that generally run to completion
 quickly

Guess what result did not show up on the first page of results... BMC's
product documentation... What logic they have to withhold their
documentation from robots indexing it is beyond me. If memory serves me
correctly BMC has gone to lengths to ensure that APIs, documentation,
javadoc, systematic workflow documentation, etc. are not available on the
 web.

Maybe someone can help me understand the logic here because it eludes me...

Re: Any clue why this is happening?

Not sure if it related to the problem you're seeing. I remember there is
permission issue with the fields being used on the email subject line.
Are they public view?

  Hello All,

We are stumped on an issue and was hoping someone on the list would have
an idea why this would be occurring after upgrading from ARS version 7.1
with it works on to 7.6.04 and now it does not. This is regarding Emails
being generated in a Filter by Notify contain a Subject line without
variable substitution. The message text is working okay. Any ideas?

 Here are the details:

The filter has the following set on it.

 Set Fields From: Task_Details_Join

 Set Field If
 'Task_Details_Request_ID' = $Request ID$

If No Requests Match: Set Fields to $NULL$
If Multiple Requests Match: Use First Matching Request

 Field Mapping:
 Field Name Value
 TempChar1 $OrderNumber$
 TempChar2 $LineTicketNumber$

 Notify
Notify Text: Order $TempChar1$, ticket number $TempChar2$, the task $Full
Task Name$ has been assigned to you as of $TIMESTAMP$.
 User Name: $Assigned_To_Email_Address$
 Priority: 0
 Mechanism: Email
 Subject: Order $TempChar1$ / # $TempChar2$ has a Task that has been
 assigned to you.

 Include Fields: None

When we check the filter log it shows
 Checking TASK-GA710-NOTAFY- New_Assignee`! (710)
 -- Passed -- perform actions
  0: Set Fields
TempChar1 (6) = ORDER_TIC-0971986
TempChar2 (60001) = 8097764-001
  1: Notify
Priority: 0 Mechanism: Email To:
  *tester1**@hp.com*gregg.lil...@hp.com
Order ORDER_TIC-0971986, ticket number 8097764-001,
the task 1.00.01 Add Line Item has been assigned to you as of 06/19/13
 13:34:31.
Order / # has a Task that has been assigned to you.

So you can see the Text did set the variables:

TempChar1 and TempChar2 but the same two variables are also used on the
Subject line and it just sets blank values in there. We have triple checked
to make sure that the same variables are used in the Set Fields, Notify
Subject and Notify Text and yet the Subject line the variables are NULL.

Any clues as to why this is occurring after an upgrade?

Hi,

Our users are getting the authentication error when log in to our server.
However, they're able to log in after retry. This issue seems random and at

Below is an excerpt from the plugin log, and I notice that in the section
where it fail to connect to LDAP, it's missing the part Connecting via

Please advise where to check/search for the issue.

Yep. We also had the same issue after upgrade to 7.5 from 7.01. Re-import
the Server Administrator forms fixed the problem.

I agree with Matt, I've had this problem before and found the solution
through the plugin logs. The problem was that there was stuff on the form
that didn't work properly. I corrected by manually re-importing the Server
Administration def file from the upgrade and telling it to delete extra
fields/views, this cleaned up the form and allowed it to work properly.

 Hi List

We are upgrading our ARS 7.1 to ARS 7.6.04 SP2 , the installer runs fine
but we have noticed that most time the server information becomes blank.
The services come up and the host id is shown on the license console. But
server information remains empty, we have tried restarting ar server as
 well as ar plugin services.

But still the server information remains blank, anyone experience the same
 issue.

 ARS 7.1 upgrade to ARS 7.6.04 SP2

 DB - Oracle 10.2

 OS - Solaris 9

 Thanks

 Our OS is Win2003.

I stopped Tomcat, deleted all the Cache files under the cache folder,
renamed the viewstats.dat file and restarted Tomcat (like Tauf suggested).
I'm finally able to see my changes.

Made another test change on a form (added a field), flushed the cache,
still can see the changes Ugh! I can't find the cachetemp directory only

Also should I rename the viewstats.dat file back to the original name? I
was hoping that it would create a fresh new one when I restarted Tomcat.**

I don't have the Sync option on my configuration tool. Maybe because we
are on 7.1 p7 for ARS?

If I make a change to a form, would I be checking the Forms.data and
FormFields.data files under cache to see when they update?

 Lisa,

I’m running 7.6.4 MidTier Remedy server and have no issues with the
 flush cache.

 ** **

You didn’t mention the OS of your setup…but I’m not sure if it’s
 relevant…I’m on Win2k3 for reference.

 ** **

Cache Persistence would make it so that a restart of Tomcat (You said
Apache…don’t know if you meant that, or if you meant Tomcat…because Tomcat
would likely be your JSP engine) wouldn’t ‘clear your cache’….because of
the persistence…if you are looking for a restart to clear the cache, you
would need to disable cache persistence, in that manner everything would be
 stored in memory

 ** **

But…since you have the cache persistence enabled…I think you should be
able to find the cache files on the MidTier server and see when they
actually got updated after your update….that may give you a better idea of
 how long it’s taking.

 ** **

Have you tried ‘Sync’ instead of ‘Flush’?...I’ve heard problems with
Sync…but not many…so I don’t know if one will work better for you than
 another

 ** **

 Just some things to try.

We used to be able to update a form (on dev) and then flush the MidTier
Cache and then view the form in the Midtier and see the changes.

Lately, it's not working. We flush the cache, no changes. I restarted
Apache, still don't see my changes. Delete all browsing history on my IE
 8, still no changes.

We have our cache settings Definition Change Check Interval (Seconds) set
to 300 (I also have the perform check enabled). So after 5 minutes we
should see the change (if our flush didn't work).

I don't see my changes until the next DAY.

 What's getting stuck?

Some more info - Prefetch is not enabled. Preload was enabled a couple of
months ago, but I have turned it off. Enable Cache Persistence is
 enabled.

We are using Midtier 7.6.04 SP1 with ARS 7.1 P7. Our Midtier server is
 separate than our ARS server.

So when the user clicks on the web url that can be embedded in the

and thus submit his approval or disapproval..

The elegant way would be an email template as LJ described below which will
 take a little more work..

when they hit the approve button it sends a reply email from their address

the second level people who are actually working the ticket without a write
license. Or let's say I'm a change person; if I open a change request for
myself and then want to work it all the way through to completion - I should
 have a write license.

If one is working a ticket, one is expected to have a write license. There

 Hi David,

 Thank you.

So in the case of custom in-house developed ARS applications licenses are
required to be purchased for those who need update access to tickets they
did not submit, in effect limiting the licenses required to only those
individuals, rather than some percentage of the total population of
 submitters, correct?

Or put another way, there is no requirement to purchase a large number of
unnecessary licenses for those who do not update tickets they did not
 submit?

 *Subject:* Re: License Question...

 From the Configuration Guide:

 The Submitter Mode options are

*Locked*—Enables users who have their name in the Submitter field to
modify requests without a write license. This does not apply to users with a
Restricted Read license who cannot modify requests under any circumstances.
In the locked submitter mode, after the entry is submitted, the value in the
 Submitter field cannot be changed.

*Changeable*—Requires users to have a write license to change any record,
including requests for which they are the submitter.

So ignoring business licensed rights for the moment, a user with a read
license and submitter mode set to “Locked” would be technically able to
submit data to the system and modify their own submissions since their name
 is in the “Submitter” field.

Upgrade AR server to 7.5P007 from 7.01

Is it just a mater of running the installer 7.5 P007 on our server, or we

Chrome Browser support

2010-11-04 Thread Andrew Fremont
This question is more for BMC, but hopefully David could give us some hints.
As we're seeing increasing number of users using Chrome as their primary
browsers, it becomes annoying for asking them to switch back to IE or FF
when accessing Remedy apps. It also painful for developers to provide the
workaround, sometimes it's not possible. Most of the issues are around the
JS errors on the date/time, and rendering alignments.

Is it on road map for the next release or any time soon?

However, there have been no formal requests from business customers to
support Chrome. While individuals may be using it, market information so
far does not point to IT organizations formally moving to supporting Chrome

supporting it for business (as opposed to recreational or consumer) use, it
would certainly bolster the BMC business case to add support.

is a brief moment we see MNU2932 (the menu item id value from the
SYS:Menu Items form) and then the actual Menu Value is displayed in the Role
 field.

We don't see this odd behavior on the User Tool. I looked at the AL logs
both on the MT and on the UT, but did not see any reference to set fields
doing an explicit set fields of the Menu Item ID being set into the Role
 field being displayed.

We are running ITSM 7.1.0 on AR System 7.1.0 Patch 6

Has anyone one else seen this odd behavior? I am unable to explain this
 behavior on the MT.

 Thanks,

 All,

I am sure this is an internet joke that has likely been around the
block before. However, it showed up in one of my email accounts today
so I thought I would share it again.

I also looked to see if it has been posted to ARSlist before and it
was posted by Claire Sanford on Aug 31, 2007. So it does fail my
Test4Dup filter. However if your table of old ARSList emails do not go
back that far in time then your Test4Dup may not see this as a dup. :)
[ And if you do not know what I mean by a Test4Dup filter then you
likely have not been using the Action Request System very long. ]

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO : Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking
 about buying a computer.

 ABBOTT : Mac?
 COSTELLO : No, the name's Lou .

 ABBOTT : Your computer?
 COSTELLO : I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

 ABBOTT : Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou .

 ABBOTT : What about Windows?
COSTELLO : Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT : Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO : I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

 ABBOTT : Wallpaper.
COSTELLO : Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

 ABBOTT : Software for Windows?
COSTELLO : No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write
proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

 ABBOTT : Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

 ABBOTT : I just did.
COSTELLO : You just did what?

 ABBOTT : Recommend something.
COSTELLO : You recommended something ?

 ABBOTT : Yes.
 COSTELLO : For my office?

 ABBOTT : Yes.
COSTELLO : OK, what did you recommend for my office?

 ABBOTT : Office.
COSTELLO : Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT : I recommend Office with Windows.
COSTELLO : I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say
I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I

 ABBOTT : Word.
 COSTELLO : What word?

 ABBOTT : Word in Office..
COSTELLO : The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT : The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO : Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT : The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with

anything I can track my money with?

 ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO : That's right. What do you have?

 ABBOTT : Money.
COSTELLO : I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT : It comes bundled with your computer.
COSTELLO : What's bundled with my computer?

 ABBOTT : Money.
COSTELLO : Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT : Yes. No extra charge.
COSTELLO : I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

 ABBOTT : One copy.
COSTELLO : Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT : Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.
COSTELLO : They can give you a license to copy money?

We're setting up the Mid-tier for our remedy application for the first time,

However, the non-SSL HTTP port still accessible, URL without the s, e.g

The question is how disable or turn that the non-SSL URL off, so the

following error:

The BMC Remedy Email Engine service on Local Computer started and then

Is there a way to re-config or point the Remedy Email Engine to use the new

Capture the User name

2008-11-13 Thread Andrew Fremont
Create a little Java function in a .jsp file and put it in your shared
folder on your Midtier:

Name the file something like /arsys/shared/get_remote_user.jsp.

get_remote_user.jsp contains:

function env_ip_var()
{
var return_value = %=request.getRemoteUser()%;
return (return_value)
}

In the Web Header content of the form you want to capture this on,
add...

SCRIPT src=/arsys/shared/get_remote_user.jsp
language=JavaScript/SCRIPT

To set a field with the data from the JavaScript functions do the
following in an active link...

Run Process Command Line:
javascript:window.F().DoSet(env_hostname());

Be sure to change with the field ID of the field you want to
set.

Re: Walking table, reading and setting hi-liting rows

2008-06-13 Thread Andrew Fremont
You could use the keyword $ROWSELECTED$ for to check if row is selected.

Extract from the manual
$ROWSELECTED$
 --
Evaluates if row in table field is selected:

   - 0 = Not selected
   - 1 = Secondary selection
   - 2 = Primary selection

This keyword is only valid in the context of a table loop guide.

I want the user to be able to hi-lite table rows, save the entry, and have
those same table rows hi-lited when the entry is re-displayed.

So the user will cntl-click several rows to hi-lite them. Then on save, an
Active Link Guide will walk the table, and if the row is hi-lited it will
write the Entry ID for the row into a Char field.

But how does it know if the row is hi-lited?

On Display, another AL Guide will walk the table, and if Char Field is LIKE
 % + 'Entry ID col' + % it will hi-lite the row.

But how does it do that?

Actually, I'd be happy if somebody could point out where this is explained
 in the manual.

Instead of open a dialog, you could create an active link to populate value
to fields, then perform the same actions as user hit the save button.

Re: Next ID Blocking = faster submits?

2008-05-28 Thread Andrew Fremont
I believe the improvement performance is for multiple concurrent users
(100+) submitting entries to the same form. This option may not work best
for single user.

performance, and my preliminary numbers were surprising and
 disappointing.
NOTE: I don't think a single sample is enough from which to draw a
 global
conclusion. HOWEVER...I am concerned enough to ask some questions.

I have two new servers, equal hardware, same OS (RHEL 5) and AR System
 7.1
p2, same code, same DB version, same code and similar (but separate)
  databases.

I ran an Escalation that submits hundreds of records into a relatively
 small
form (perhaps 25 fields) that previously contained no records. There
 was no
other load or user on either server.

Server A is set up without the NextId blocking.
Server B is set up WITH the NextId blocking set for 100 at the server
 level
but NOT on the form itself, threaded escalations, and the Status History
update disabled for the form in question.

I went through the SQL logs and tracked the time difference between each
  UPDATE arschema SET nextId = nextId + 1/100 WHERE schemaId = 475
 entry.
  The results?

Server A: Each fetch of single NextIds was separated by an average of
 .07
seconds, which is 7 seconds per hundred.

Server B: Each fetch of 100 NextIds was separated by a mean value of
 12.4
seconds per entry (hundred). A second run showed an average of 12.8
seconds, so I'm fairly confident that's a good number. The fastest was
 5.3
seconds, the slowest almost 40 seconds.

Then just to eliminate the possibility that the environments were the
 issue,
I turned on the NextId blocking on Server A to the same parameters I had
 set
for Server B. Result? Average of 8 seconds per hundred, though if I
 throw
out the first two gets (which were 11 sec. ea), the remaining runs
 average
around 7.25 seconds per hundred. Even in a best-case scenario, it's
 still
slightly slower than doing it singly.

The median value between the values in all three sets across two servers
 was
8 seconds. The mean value is 11 seconds. Again, the time it takes to
 get
100 NextId updates 1 at a time was 7 seconds per hundred.

So the newer, faster feature actually appears no faster, and in some
 cases
slower, than the process it's supposed to have improved.

Maybe it's not hitting the DB as often, but then why are we not seeing
 the
omission of 99 DB calls reflected in faster overall submit times at the
 AR
System level? Am I doing something wrong? Are my expectations
unreasonable? Is there some data in a white paper or something that
 shows
empirically what improvements one should expect from deploying this new
  functionality?

Is anyone seeing improved performance because of this feature? I don't
 see
  it.

Re: Qualification Error - Strange?

The first qualification would be interpreted as:
('Assignee+' = Michael Davis) OR (( 'Assignee+' = Gurpreet Savi) AND

That explains the result return all entries with Status as they match with
Michael Davis

We're using the substrC and lengthC function to truncate the string to the

Is there a way to truncate the field to match with the field length for the

My issue was that plain text emails with attachments had their bodies

attachment), the html body field was populated in the AR System Email
Messages form, but the plain text body was not. Also, with my gmail
account, emails without attachments were processed correctly.

I don't know if the fix has been rolled up into a newer patch for 6.3,
but the workaround I used (was told to use by BMC, rather) was to
replace the patch 21 emaildaemon.jar file with the patch 16
emaildaemon.jar file (I went from patch 16 to 21). That fixed the
problem temporarily. I was later provided a special patch 21
 emaildaemon.jar file, which functioned correctly.

If you'd like I could probably dig up the special patch 21
emaildaemon.jar file that was provided to me. I think I still have it
 somewhere.
