Re: Reposting because we really our running out of options, and need help: UPGRADE from 7.0.01 to 7.5 issues - Data types are not appropriate for relational operation (ARERR 313) - RESOLVED

Jarl,

Thanks for the trick. It came back with the BusinessTimeWorkdays being
the problem on the 2 servers. It looks like the time field changed in
that form between versions.
Now we can make the appropriate changes!

Now I am going to read that Configuration Guide 7.5 right away cover to
cover.

Again thank you very much...

Since you got this error when the server starts, the api/sql turned on
when starting the server may give you some help.

Another trick can be to add the -checkdb option when starting the arserver
from command line.

There was a few filters that were firing. We verified all of them,
couldn't find anything wrong with them, so we did a backup and deleted
them. Still have the error showing up at startup.

I am reposting this since I did not get any replies and we are running
out
 of options.
I am still hoping that someone has an idea or a suggestion on what we
can
try. We have this issue escalated with BMC and been looking for a
 reason/solution/fix for 2 weeks now.

 ***

We have a total of 9 servers (3 dev, 3 test and 3 prod). Each of them
have
different applications running (1 has old ITSM 4 and 5 mixed, 1 has
home-grown apps with some web apps and the last one is 100% web
home-grown
apps). They all are in the process of being upgraded from 7.0.01 patch
008
 to ARS 7.5 patch 006.

All 3 dev have been upgraded and 1 test server was also upgraded.
On 2 of the 3 dev server and on the test server we get the same error at
 start-up:
390600 : Data types are not appropriate for relational operation (ARERR
 313) only at start-up of the server.
The third dev server has no error.
None of the servers had that error before the upgrade.

The applications on all 3 dev servers were tested and we cannot get
reproduce the error at all. Only shows up at startup

Since we were not able to get any information from the Logs beside the
error
showing in the arerror.log, we decided to take a more drastic approach:
 After doing a backup:

Deleted all the filters , restarted the server == error still shows up
Deleted all the escalation, restarted the server == error still shows
up
Opened all the forms that have table fields, checked the Table field
Properties and deleted the forms that had errors on those table fields
==
 error still shows up
We are about to do the same with View forms.

We are running out of things to delete. And we do not feel confident in
upgrading our production servers with this error in our logs.

I am running out of ideas. Anyone?
 Really need suggestions, ideas, help.

UPGRADE from 7.0.01 to 7.5 issues - Data types are not appropriate for relational operation (ARERR 313)

2010-09-21 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We have upgraded 3 different environments from 7.0.01 patch 008 to 7.5
patch 6. On 2 out of 3, we see the same error, but only at start-up. The
third one has no error. Those are 3 totally independent and different
servers.
But the 2 that are showing the error message at start-up do have view
forms linking them to each other. Those view forms seems to be fine.
We ran a series of tests on both of those server that shows the error and
all seems to be working fine. Users did their testing and all seems to be
working perfectly fine for them too.
We put the logs on trying to capture exactly where is this error coming
from. We did see a few filters but nothing that fixed that error. We
looked at all our table fields to make sure that their def were not
corrupted but again nothing.
We are supposed to upgrade our production environment but do not feel at
ease with this error popping up just after the upgrade and on 2 separate
environments.
We even disabled all our filters and still have the error at start-up.
Same with escalation even if it is not coming from the escalation thread.

This is the error we are getting

Hi all,

We are installing 7.0.01 patch 008 on a new box in an attempt to separate
our 3 instances of our dev environment that were residing on the same box.
This is to allow us to upgrade to 7.5 peacefully.
We did a previous test on another server without any issues at all, but
unfortunately, we have to give back that one. We are following the exact
same procedure on this new box, but we are getting errors with the
WebService and the plugin. According to our server team the new
environment is exactly the same as the one used in our smoke tests...
Taking their words on this at this point.
And we do see the arplugin running in the tasks manager and we do have the

Does the arplugin.log show any errors when trying to load the web service
plugin? The plugin process may be up and running, but it may not have

2010-09-07 Thread pascale . boyer
Robert,

This is a 7.0.01 server.
The Plugin logs don't even get written. So absolutely nothing. This is a
new installation so no other webservice.dll anywhere else.
as for
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE
Servername:Portnumber
No we do not have that in our ar.conf. Never saw that one before. Is
that required for 7.0.01?

** Hi Pascale;

First I'm assuming that the other plugins are working OK as you mention
the plugin service is running... It would be suggested that you check
them all to ensure that one is not hanging up the others...

does the ar.crg file have:
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE
Servername:Portnumber

Are there stray copies of WebService.dll laying around?

For my 7.5+ systems there is not any entry as Plugin: WebService.dll in
the config file - just the alias as mentioned above...

Lastly - what does the plugin server log show?

absolutely nothing gets written, not even an empty logs. We do see the

Does the arplugin.log show any errors when trying to load the web service
plugin? The plugin process may be up and running, but it may not have
loaded all plugin(s).

If I launch the arplugin from the DOS I get a JVM.dll missing error. But

One command level try is to comment out the arplugin.exe from armonitor

Pascale,
In 7.5, the Web Services plugin runs in the JAVA plugin, not C….this
causes a few ‘changes’ in how you run things….first off…you don’t turn the
logs on/off with the admin console anymore…you turn them on/off in the
.properties file….and I haven’t honestly played much….but I don’t think
you can turn them on/off ‘mid’ run like you could with the C versions….and
you need to look into the proper log file to get the output from it…..but
none of that addresses your dll error…which you shouldn’t be getting,
because you shouldn’t be trying to load both the c (dll) and the java
(jar) at the same time…

you didjust that we are preparing to move to 7.5... not there yet

Adding the PATH in the system environment worked on removing the
WebService.dll: The specified module could not be found.
We are now getting a new error which has to do with our DNS I think. We
are using the same alias we did before we moved the application to the new
server. Asked the MSE guys to make sure the DNS were all fixed
accordingly Now we are getting:
ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System

Depending on from where I ping the alias I get a different response from 2
different servers.

So back to the MSE guys here

Thanks all for your help!!!

Pascale,
In 7.5, the Web Services plugin runs in the JAVA plugin, not C….this
causes a few ‘changes’ in how you run things….first off…you don’t turn the
logs on/off with the admin console anymore…you turn them on/off in the
.properties file….and I haven’t honestly played much….but I don’t think
you can turn them on/off ‘mid’ run like you could with the C versions….and
you need to look into the proper log file to get the output from it…..but
none of that addresses your dll error…which you shouldn’t be getting,
because you shouldn’t be trying to load both the c (dll) and the java
(jar) at the same time…

I think I may have found the problem, but I don't remember how to fix it
:o(

If I launch the arplugin from the DOS I get a JVM.dll missing error. But
it is there in the java\bin\client folder.
If I set the path when in DOS I do see

Loaded Web Services plugin properly

So I am now guessing I need to add this to my system PATH... just don't
remember how...

Anyone?

strange midtier behavior - any ideas?

2010-06-02 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We have an open ticket with BMC for this one, but they are unable to help
us since we can't provide them with logs since this is happening like once
every 4 to 6 months. And this is not specific a one customer. It is
happening on different ones each time so far.

So I am hoping that someone on the list has an idea.

We have a secure portal used by our customers. From that portal they can
access several applications. One of them is an ARS midtier application.
We do use load balancing and we have sticky sessions.

The customer logs on the portal with a specific network ID. That network
ID identifies which dealership(s) is associated to that ID.
From there, a URL is built to link them into the midtier apps without
having to log on Remedy. The Remedy logon used is not the network ID but
a specific unique ID that is linked to the dealership they are inquiring
about.

Now this is the issue. We have from time to time, a mix-up in the
Submitter field which is set to $USER$:

2 customers are both logged on the portal using their own specific network
ID (Network logon A and Network logonB).
They both click on their own link within the portal to access our Remedy
midtier app. In that link the username is past and is equal respectively
to Dealer A and Dealer B
They both see they own information (at least we think they do cuz they do
not complain about that).

Once they Submit their own ticket on the midtier app, we have this
behavior:again this is like once every 4 to 6 months.

In one ticket:
the Submitter is showing Dealer B but the worklog (diary field) on the
form is showing the information being entered by Dealer A.
Since the system is matching the Submitter to the Remedy logon to be able
to view the tickets, Dealer A doesn't see the ticket that they submitted
since the system as it has being Dealer B.
And Dealer B sees that ticket that doesn't belong to him. Further more,
Dealer A creates another ticket because he cannot see the one he just
created and that second ticket is perfectly fine.

We tried to reproduce this by having several user logged on the portal at
the same time and submitting tickets at the same time, but we are unable to
reproduce it.
Also, one customer told us that he got an error message, but couldn't tell
us the exact nature of the message.
We do not know if the message is a Remedy message or Browser. No clue.

Any ideas or suggestion are welcome.

Hi Joe,

Yes this is 100% custom. And we have no workflow on Submitter at all.
Only thing we do have is the default value on the field being $USER$

Pascale,

Looks like this is some custom work? Might be hard to help you on this one
if that is the case.

What may help is check all your code around field 2 (active links,
filters, escalations) that may have a set field action on Field 2.

List all those. I am assuming there should not be too many of them.

Also if possible audit Field 2. Auditing it may sound like an overkill
because it happens as less frequently as you mentioned but it looks like
there is not much of a choice otherwise..

Make sure you have no Direct SQL code that make changes to Field 2..

We had something similar happen once in a load balanced environment.

Person A would log in at a computer and then log out.

Person B would log in at the same computer - but her activity would all
show up under person A.

It turned out to be the load balancer settings - if I recall the sticky

Hi all,

I've been asked by the management of our IT department if there was anyway
to use a 3rd party license manager like FlexLM with the Remedy system.
I don't really see how this would be possible but I just want to know if
any of you are using any type of 3rd party license management tool.

Thank you,

I must admit that I have not really taken logs to verify that (I don't
recall if we did that during the training class back then), but that's
what
we were told in our version 4 performance training class days. I wonder if
things changed after that then if filters executed by escalations ride the
same thread as you say. And since then have always had filters perform 2nd
and 3rd stage operations that usually are handled by list queues and let
escalations perform only fast operations.

Hi Joe,

I have to disagree with you here.

Any filter-actions resulting from an Escalation Set-Fields/Push-Fields
operation will be performed in the same thread. I have seen hundreds of
log files to prove this.

I would use the exact same escalation qualification as JK suggested:
'Submit Date' ( $TIMESTAMP$ - 86400)

I would then have a single run-process action to do the:
Application-Delete-Entry $SCHEMA$ $1$

Each delete will then take place in a separate transaction.
If you do an Application-Query-Delete-Entry that handles multiple deletes,
it will take place inside a single transaction that will be rolled back if
any of the deletes fail. This use a lot of resources, especially if you
have attachments on the form.

I would suggest that you put an index on the field, and that you run it as
often as possible. Maybe each hour or so, or maybe even every 7 minutes if
you have a lot of records to delete. This will minimize the impact on
other escalations, as each run will take less time.

That's actually not true.. Filters use a different thread than
 Escalations..
Let me explain further what I learnt in a performance tuning class years
 ago
(version 4 days) and I do not think this has changed with the later
 versions..

When an escalation does what it has to do, it terminates its job and
 exits..
and it runs with a specific thread ID (I do not recall it by memory what
that ID is but its something like 600630??). But that's besides the
 point..

The filter that actually does the delete does not use the same thread
 number
as the escalation (try thread logging and you will see this).

So when you have an escalation do what it has to do, namely the first
 phase
operation of Set Fields, it does that and it doesn't really care if the
Filter does or does not execute the operations defined to fire on Modify
when the $USER$ is the escalation user.. Filters when triggered fire and
utilize a different thread. So the deletes that would be triggered as a
result of the Modify operation by the Escalation will be independent of
 that
Escalation thread, and the escalation thread exits before all of the
 deleted
occur, thus being available to any other escalations that may be
designed
 to
 immediately follow..

 Joe

But Joe, yes the set field happens in phase 1, but the delete action
happening on the record itself is still a phase 3 action. Either way
the
Escalation has to wait for each record to 'process' before it goes onto
 the
next record, so delete from the escalation vs delete from a filter on
the
record will cause the escalation thread to still wait, so I'm not sure I
 agree with your statements.

Anyone had issues after patching 7.0.1 to patch 008?

2009-10-06 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We patched our server, email engine and midtier to patch 008 last
Saturday. Ever since, some of our Set Fields actions and menu aren't
working properly.
The SQL being sent to the DB by the system is adding this to the where
clause:
Where ((c2 = $USER$ OR c4 = $USER$)) AND ...
We did not add this, Remedy is being kind enough to do it on its own. Now
of course this is creating major issues and breaking many workflow.
We have BMC trying to figure this out, but I was wondering if any of you
ever seen this?
If we replace the workflow with direct SQL, the problem disappear.

Ah, yes...I think I saw this in 7.1 Patch 5 or 6but they finally
figured out that they weren't enforcing row level permissions in some
situations. If you look on the form that's having the search performed on
it you will likely find that the only people that have access to field 1
are submitter and assigneeadd public to that and you will find the
extra where clause pulled offbasically...before that patch they
weren't ensuring that the person querying the records had access to
themthey fixed it

That is what I told the web server team.
But they are telling me that Remedy must have a memory leak because
according to them the jvm size is sufficiant... Only the mid tier causes
the error etc ...
I looked at the known issues and I can't find nothing linked to this on
the Remedy side.

Of course, the Remedy mid tier is blamed for this one. I can't find any
information on what this means besides the obvious lack of
memory/resources allocated to Remedy.
Any clues?

Re: New fields added becomes Core fields

2009-09-02 Thread pascale . boyer
Lyle,

I have a very similar problem with 3 table fields that I am copying from
one form to another. They get field ID 100, 200 and 300. This seems to
be only happening with this particular form and only for those table
fields and only if the field ID already exists on the target.
This is not the first time we are copying table fields from one form to
another, but this is the first time that I see the system assigning the
request ID to those values. It usually reset them to null if the request
ID already exist on the target. I was hoping not to have to recreate those
table
And, if I add a regular field without being copied from another form on
that specific form, I get the expected regular 53687 field ID.

Thank you,

Pascale Boyer

Thanks for responding, Doug. In our environment, we do not ever directly
update the database, so I don’t think this is what happened here. It
appears to have changed just as a result of modifying the form. Now, I
did manually enter field IDs for many of the fields as I was adding them
to the forms (to make them match custom fields on other forms as well as
ITSM fields that I was pulling data from). Additionally, I copied and
pasted some fields from other forms (such as the Company field from
HPD:Help Desk). Could either of those have reset the nextFieldID counter
to a higher value?

Lyle,

If I had to guess.

Someone wanted to reset the nextID value -- the ID for the entry ID -- and
instead of resetting the nextID
column, they reset the nextFieldID column -- the number to start at when
looking for the next available
field ID that is not used for auto assignment of field IDs.

A good example of why to be VERY VERY VERY careful when making direct
changes to the data
dictionary. Make sure you are updating what you really are supposed to be
and not something that
looks close.

I cannot gaurantee that this is what happened, but I do suspect that this
is what happened. The names are
similar. If you are not aware that there are two different columns, it is
easy to pick the wrong one to update.
Since the nextFieldID was added later to the table, it is likely the last
column in the table so it is easy to
see that one first.

Just a possibility (and a useful reminder to be careful in general
regardless),

Doug Mueller

So, what would cause it to change the next field ID to another range of
numbers. For example, I recently created a new display only form and
started adding fields to it with the same field ID as on other forms, and
pretty soon, it was automatically assigning new field ID just above the
fields I added. Thing is, I created a few related forms that shared field
IDs across them, and, if I recall correctly, not all the forms started
auto assigning new IDs in the upper range, so I’m wonder what triggers the
change. Does that make sense?

Kali,

with the following sql statement you can set nextfieldid to a safe number.

UPDATE arschema SET nextfieldid = (SELECT MAX(fieldid) FROM field WHERE
field.schemaid =arschema.schemaid) + 1 where name = 'Name of your form'

After that you must restart your arserver.

web services problems

2009-07-23 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We have some web services that we are publishing. The operation used is a
opGetList. If we run these web services with SoapUI we do see the
information being returned properly.
If we consume the WSDL through a JAVA application (outside Remedy) they
are unable to get the data. Instead they get a Java error (array store
exception). It looks like the document is being repeated N times but with
no values.

On the mid tier, I do see they call being made and the values (document)
being prepared and all looks fine. We are unable to find the cause.
In the WSDL the MaxOccurs is set to unbounded (tried also 1) still not
working.
The elements are not set directly under the Root portion. We did create an
element called getListValueOut where the output elements are found and
mapped to the form.

Anyone has an idea what could be the issue? Where we should look. We have
looked at all the options/examples found in the manuals. Nothing seems to
be working.

Doing some searching I came across this note in a Server patch readme file

Release 7.0.01 patch 004 contains fixes for web services that require
several components to be upgraded simultaneously. To use web services,
the following components must all be upgraded to release 7.0.01 patch 004
or higher, or must all remain at release 7.0.01 patch 003 or below:

Look at your output XML (from the Mid-Tier logs) and see if it has the
namespace prefix on the attributes (or is it missing on some of them)

API Call not being made: Almost Resolved

2009-05-21 Thread pascale . boyer

still are seeing some errors and getting a stack dump.
But if we move our users to patch 008 instead of patch 001, the error does

BMC is trying to understand what patch 008 is fixing.

Pascale,

That should be an ARS BUG in my opinion.

At the very least the server should note (AKA: Log) that it gave up due to
a
timeout. Which implies that the CE that spawned the WebService (Er... AR
Filter plugin call) needs to show up in the logs too.

It may be a reasonable behaviour for ARS to timeout. But it is very
important that it not do something without telling us what it is doing.
(Well, when the logs are turned on at least. :) )

I strongly suggest that you NOT let BMC off the hook on this part of your
problems.
You spent how much time trying to figure it out?
Several other customers (via ARSList) spent time thinking and/or testing.

Because the AR Server did not tell you that an error happened and that it
took an action due to that error condition.

And I would bet that you are not the first person to have this kind of
problem either.

This fault cost BMC customers a lot. It should be fixed before it costs
more
customers even more money.

important that it not do something without telling us what it is doing.

API Call not being made

2009-05-18 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

Hope someone has a clue about this one...

We are experiencing a sudden breakage on our production server. And as
usual, no one did anything, nothing was changed by no one on the system,
the server, the OS or the DB or the DB server...
But this is what is going on.

We have a basic workflow that does the following:
Active link execute on Return on field
Action: push field to from B
Filter on form B
Execute on Submit
Consume web services.

The results: arerr 92 time-out at the database ... server busy ... etc

This is not happening once in a while, but constantly now.

I ran the API, SQL and Filter logs
If I compare the logs of working and not working with the exact same value
being used, this is what I get:

I see the AL being launched the push field started then nothing, not even
the API CE being made. The system seems to go dead (timing out after 2
minutes) and returning the error 92.

This is only happening on workflow pushing data to form B.

The DBA checked the integrity of the tables (T, B H) and says that
everything is fine there nothing. This is a tiny table of barely 2000
records.
Since the DB itself was running low on memory (200Mb), we added 2 Gb this
weekend. Still not working.

Due to the fact that the client is timing out, it's never updating its
logs...so to capture what's happening on this one you will need to turn on
server logging to capture what's happening. Something on the server is
taking more than the client (hard coded) 2 min timeoutso when you turn
on server logging and perform the same action you should be able to see a
bit more what's happening, and hopefully capture something in the logs
that will lead you a bit further down the road.

I was able to reproduce the time-out totally outside remedy using SoapUI.
So it is still a webservice issue.
It looks like the set field on the webservice call fails because of the
webservice timing out and the API call CE doesn't get logged since it
failed. Not sure it is supposed to behave that way, but it seems to be
what we are experiencing.

We've been having issues with this particular webservices for the past
few weeks. It started when the web team changed the web server. But of
course it has nothing to do with it :o(
It must be a Remedy issue, never a web service issue Sounds
familiar?
It started with the plug-in failure which was due to the time-out being to
low. Once we increased the time out , we got the webservice exception
error. Then, the web server team did some tweaking at the OS level (a
Unix issue they said) and the error disappeared. Instead, this new arerr
92 appeared. Our DB was running with only 200Mb of memory available, so
we installed more (2 Gb more) this weekend. Still not working.
Then you guys asked about the plug-in so I launched a trace and voila! the
time-out on the web service was there again...
Awaiting more investigation on the web server team.
Any help still greatly appreciated!

That should be an ARS BUG in my opinion.

At the very least the server should note (AKA: Log) that it gave up due to

I asked about how long your timeout was for the plugin server because I
have not had an instance of the plugin server timing out and not logging
that timeout...but I can warn you, the timeout between Remedy and the
server (2 min's) is not configurable...so even if you increase your plugin
timeout...if the server doesn't respond to the client (Mid-Tier/User)
within that 2 min window, then you will have a timeout situation occur no
matter.

updating cacerts for SSL connection with Lotus Notes

2009-04-17 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

We are currently on an Exchange mail server. We are moving to Lotus
Notes. This change has been a real challenge (or nightmare). To top it
off, this is a SSL connection.
We did create the mailbox configuration with the SSL set to yes. But of
course nothing is working since we did not update the cacerts file with
the appropriate certificate.
We are trying to get some information on how to do this with BMC but they
keep referring us to the email engine installation guide which in return
only has information about MS Exchange.
It also says to use keytool that comes with java to import the
certificate. Great! Found it... But we can't figure out how to use it.
Is it the Lotus notes client certificate that is found on the client in
C:\Program Files\notes\jvm\lib\security? or the application itself? Where
do I get this? I am working with the lotus notes team which has no clue
what I'm talking about.
Can anyone guide us?

How do I update/modify the cacerts file found in the java path?

thanks for any help!

Email Engine Service question

** Hi,

Our email services has stopped, and we couldn't restart it with the
following error:

The BMC Remedy Email Engine service on Local Computer started and then
stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for
example, the Performance Logs and Alert service.

We found out that the IT group removed the java jre1.5.0_10 from the box,
and installed a newer java version jre6.
For some ridiculous reasons, IT group does not now allow us to reinstalled
jre1.5.0_10 This is the version we have on the server when the email
installed and it work fine.

Is there a way to re-config or point the Remedy Email Engine to use the
new java version without reinstall the Email?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi everyone,

Not being a Java guru at all... I need your help with the Email Engine

We have had several tickets open with BMC regarding this issue. It has
been going on for over 1 year. But since it is only the QA server not much
effort was put into resolving this until now.
This is the situation:

We have a WIN 2003 server (sp2) with 3 instances of ARS version 7.01 patch
003
(DB on remote server = MSSQL 2005)

Each instance is installed in its own little folder and all 3 systems are
as stable as possible under Remedy's world
All 3 instances points to the same path for the Java. We are using Java
jre1.5.0_12

For 2 of the instances, the email engine works fine, without any problems.

But for the third one, we just can't get it to start
I put it in the debug mode:
At first I was getting the following message:

**
#
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc005) at pc=0x04971710, pid=7508,

# Problematic frame:

#
*

I noticed that some files were missing so I reinstalled the email engine.
Same problem
So I contacted BMC to get the patch 008 email engine installer , and
again, got the exact same error message.

Then I figured that may be the server needed a little kick and had it
rebooted...

Now I do not see that error message anymore... The email engine just stops

A window pop-up

and I get this message in the event viewer:

Hi Fred,

All 3 instances are set to RMI = 1100

But when I try to start the email engine, none of them are started. I make
sure to shutdown all the services first.
So only one email engine is started on the QA server.
What is even stranger is that we have the same setup for our dev server,
and all 3 email engines are working fine at the same time.

Out of curiosity, what do you have for your RMI port for that instance (It
is listed in the EmailDaemon.properties file)?

I’m not sure on Windows but on Unix each copy of the Email Engine must use
its own RMI Port (Think of it like a TCP port). On my dev server I have 6
instances of ARS (each with its own Email Engine) running. It could be
that the java is trying to grab that port and the port is already being
used by something else.

All went fine until I tried to replace 'arxmlutil70.dll'.

I’d still shut it down. From the name of the file I’m guessing it might
have something to do with web services. It could have opened a connection
and the network stack could be keeping that dll open

Another option is to download process explorer and run it on the server
(it doesn’t require an install) and search for what is using that file and
kill the handle. You can get process explorer from Microsoft’s site as it
is a former sysinternals utility.

PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL not firing on midtier

2008-12-05 Thread pascale . boyer
Hi all,

I need help on this one. I don't understand why it is not working...
I have a workflow that works fine on the native tool (User tool) but not
at all on the midtier. The runprocess action is supported by the midtier.

This is what I did (and it works fine with the native client):

On a display only form,

1 - Set attachment field A with a document from form Test
2 - Run Process: PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL new $A$

It fires perfectly well using the User tool, but not on the midtier.

I put a message between action 1 and 2 to show the value of $A$ which
comes out

On remedy client:C:\DOCUME~1\boyerpa\LOCALS~1\Temp\Master Index.pdf

On midtier: C;\Documents and Settings\boyerpa\My Documents\ARS7.01
Doc\Master Index.pdf

As you can notice, on the native client, it is retrieving the document and
setting it in the temp file locally. On the midtier, it seems to be
trying to access the original path of where the document was when attached
on form Test.

What am I missing?

Thanks for any help!

What about using a different Run Process Action (use $PROCESS$ in a Set
Fields action to get the result).
  PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-ATTACHMENT field_ID
Opens an attachment from an attachment field, and returns a value of 0
(Successful).
If the attachment is not opened, the command returns one of the
following codes:
 1: Cancelled
 2: Failed

This should work to open the PDF viewer in both the User Tool and Web
browser in Mid-Tier

I think the other way is to do a Set fields from the attachment to a
View Field.

Try putting a file::\ in front of the URL, I think. You might have to
dig around for the exact syntax. I'm not sure if this will fix it or
not, but it seems like a familiar idea to me.

OT: Anyone has deep knowledge or understanding of Connx?

2008-09-11 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

I am having some issues with the DBA that takes care of the Connx
application that our ARS application use to retrieve the data from the
VSAM files of our Mainframe application.

I am trying to get information concerning the transformation of the
Cobol copybooks into the VSAM files.

Anyone has that knowledge? If so, please contact me of list since this is
not really ARS related.

Any help is welcome!!!

Thanks

2008-08-26 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi Joe,

yes I did, and it made things even worst. From a crash once in a while,
we crashed systematically each time.

It seems that the problem is linked to the FIFO being full on the other
system. Which make the responce to the APIFilter call too long.
I will probably have to increase the time out from 60 sec to 120 secs. Not
a good solution for my users ... But I don't see what else can be done

**
Pascal,

Have you set the Plugin-Filter-API-Threads parameter in the ar.conf file?

If not I would suggest setting it.. I had a similar problem a few days ago
that went away as soon as I set this parameter with a min setting of 1 and
a max setting of 15.. This is what I have in my configuration file now..

Plugin-Filter-API-Threads: 1 15

You will need to restart the AR System server after you set this or at
least run the arsignal -c to re read the configuration file..

Let me know if this helps..

Cheers

Joe

Hi all,

We are suddenly experiencing problems with the arplugin. Everything was
running smoothly for the past several weeks and now suddenly we get the
message

connecter au système pour le moment. Adressez-vous à l'administrateur AR

Which can be translated by the AR System Plug-in isn't responding. unable

I put the logs to 400 and this is all I can see:

If we call the webservice outside ARS, everything works perfectly fine and

I had some arplugin threads hoping that it would help ... Just more

Re: Help please - ARPlugin crashes on WebService call

2008-08-26 Thread Pascale Boyer
I had it set to 2 6. May be it is too low? I will try to increase the
threads number.

Our ARSystem is Idle most of the time. Not using much resource on it. I
guess we are lucky, we do have a very powerful server ;-)

The problem is probably on the other system. They do have performance
issues. I've asked them to do an assement on their system.

I am increasing the Server-Plugin-Default -Timeout to 120 secs since I
noticed that the transaction took up do 105 sec to complete on their side.
But not sure it is a viable solution for the users to see the hourglass
for that long.

Thanks for the help tho :-)

Not being a WEB guru I am a little bit lost here. But I am guessing here
that the problem is located on the system we are connecting too. It is
having performance issues and takes too much time to return the data.

So it looks like your threading issue is resolved.. now it tries
connecting to the web service and fails thereafter..

Could you turn on your plugin and API logs at the time you are attempting
to use the web service? Maybe that might give you something to work on..

Also have you checked the web service using any external utilities? There
are a bunch of free utilities that you can download and use to test your
web service..

I used to use Soap Sonar which has a free version.. I just googled for it
and this is the link to download it..

William, nice job describing the summer wind. Don't forget the winter wind
though, it is face-peeling and cold. Well, I guess that frozen skin won't
really peel off. A hot day in the summer in OK is 105+, a cold day in the
winter is in the single-digits. I know there are places that get hotter,
or colder, but is there anywhere that gets both hotter and colder? That
would be interesting.

Van's Pig Stand is awesome. There is one in Shawnee as well, if you all
are ever over there. Great food, best BBQ in Oklahoma.

Thanks,

I've spent a fair amount of time in the area too doing work in Norman,
OK - which is basically the burbs at this point.

I'd like to clarify what they call wind. I am familiar with wind. I
lived in Fargo ND for 13 years. Wind is pretty constant there. Quite
often it contains snow that can sandblast the skin off of your face
while freezing it. We called that spring. Now I live in what
northern Minnesotans call the deep south - ie, the SE metro burbs of
the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

However, the wind in OK is not wind as you would normally think of it,
unless you are an industrial worker with great familiarity with blast
furnaces. You would out into that stuff and your normal hydration level
is instantly cut in half. The 30-foot walk across the parking lot
suddenly seems like a desert of unimaginable proportions. And when I
would get to the rental car (which had no sun screen) the interior was
approximately 8,000,000 degrees K.

That said - if you are ever in Norman, OK I HIGHLY recommend Van's Pig
Stand - it's simply the best BBQ I've ever had (Memphis and KC have
good stuff too of course - I'm not out to start some kind of holy BBQ
flame war). And the people down there are very friendly - it's not just
anyplace you can stagger, limp, and half crawl into a restaurant barely
able to utter HOT! HOT! Wa-waneed wa-wa, get a glass of water,
and not have anyone thing twice about it :)

I work in OKC and live near by, about 50 miles away. I commute each day.
I have lived in OK for 25 of my 28 years. I like OK a lot. I lived in
Arkansas for 3 years, it's very nice as well.

In 24 years, I've seen 0 tornadoes, about a million ice storms, and
well, you get used to the 30 mph wind. In the last week, we've had some
windy days, around 30 - 40 mph sustained winds all day, we've had, I
think, 3 thunderstorms with 80+ mph wind and baseball sized hail, but
that all missed me, except the wind. It is currently raining, as it has
been all night, I think we're up to around 4.

Carrie Underwood is from Checotah, it's around 75 miles from OKC
probably. Yes, football is all that and a box of chocolates, especially
if you live in a town like the one I live where half the town is OU and
half the town is OSU. Man, church the day after Bedlam (OU vs OSU) can
be quite a tense situation!

Oklahoma is great because you can live in a small, quite town just
outside of the big city, you have great access to the big city, but you
don't' have to be in the big city. Right now, the big thing is
sub-divisions out in the country. I'm building a house, and it will be
ready this week. It's in the country, but is in a sub-division that will
be 40 houses each on around an acre of land. It's nice is all I can say.

Here are some things I've learned living in OK almost all my life:

Tornadoes - Just get a cellar, and get used to it. A closet is no match
for an F-5 tornado with 301 mph winds.

Ice - don't plan trees near your house. They WILL fall on your house

Publishing Web services crashes the server - RESOLVED

2008-05-28 Thread Pascale Boyer
Just in case anyone is interested:

Our server kept crashing each time someone was trying to consume a web
service we were publishing. We had a stack dump.

After several tests this is what I found:

In the Input and output mapping, the XML type property of the elements
were set to True == server crashes

The Input mapping XML type property of the elements set to True AND XML
Type property of the elements set to False in the Output mapping ==
Server OK

XML Type property of the elements to False in both the Input and Output
mapping == Server OK

As soon as I change the XML Type back to True in the Output mapping ==
Server crashes

Now the question is WHY

But we are back on track for our dev.

Hope this can help someone else.

Thanks Walter ... Not reassuring :(

This was working before we changed patch. But I don't remember if we were
on patch 2 or 3 at the time.

When I do the same Web service but using the OpGet method instead of the
OpGetList, it works.
But I need this to return N entries not just one.

Hi all,

We are having an issue with a Web service. I've been working on this
since Tuesday. Can't find any reasons, but I am NO web gurue. So I really
need your help.

We do consume Web services without any problems. But this is the first
time we will be publishing some.

The Web service itself is to simply retrieve a list of data that matches
the request. So we are using OpGetList.
In the midtier logs, I do see the call being made, the parameters being
properly set. But what I think (not sure if I am right) it is on the
return of the information to the consumer, that we crash. The
authetication is set at the midtier level, so no user, password is being
past thru the web service (WSDL).

and in the arerror.log we see this:

Not sure it is feasable - Need your help

2008-04-18 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

I don't know if this is possible or not :o(

We have a Form A with a button on it to allow users to modify the form.
I know... why do it this way and not directly on the form ... Cuz we have
to allow some users with only read licenses to do so under specific
conditions.

The modification consist simply on a push field of the form A to itself,
deleting the original record of the Form A, and opening the new record on
FormA
So far that is easy to do and it is done.

The problem is this:
The original form A stays open and of course is visible once the new form
is closed.
So this is where I need your help: I need the original record of Form A to
close and only leave the new record open.

I am trying this using the PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT

This is what I did.
1) created an AL that fires on Event
with the run qualification being: ($EVENTTYPE$ = Close_FORM_A ) AND
($EVENTDATA$ = 'Request ID')
with the action being Close Window

2)
Created the AL that does the run process

The command I entered is : PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT * Close_FM0076 $ID to
erase$

This works fine BUT instead of only closing the original form, it closes
all opened Form A (new and old).

I tried with PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT @ Close_FM0076 $ID a effacer$
And nothing closes

Any ideas?

Thank you all in advance

Gary,

Already tried with the close window action. If I do it before it doesn't
fire anything after
If i do it after, it closes the new window not the old one

I would first caution you to make sure you are not doing to this to get
around current licensing requirements.

Secondly, just add a window close action in there, I can’t remember if it
needs to fire before or after your window open, just play with it. It
should work fine.

How to interface Remedy with a blackberry

2007-11-22 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

We need to be able to access one of our home grown applications via a
Blackberry. We were thinking of simply accessing it via the browser of
the Blackberry. But we are having some issues with the JavaScript on the
Blackberry. When we try to visualize an entry, we do see the form but not
the data. On none of the functionnality are working (menu, sélections
etc). If we use the same URL on IE, we do see the information
properly and all is functional.
The other option would be to create an HTML page to do this and use the
APIs ... but was hoping not having to go there.
Or is there any tools that exists out there to interface with a Blackberry
and Remedy (but not the Helpdesk app.)
Any ideas?

ARS 7.01 patch 4

For the Blackberry we are going on the 8700 with OS 4.2
And HAPPY THANKS GIVING to our American neighbors

Neel,

You could try to export your definition and search thru it to see if any
AL or Filters are setting the request ID to those prefix anywhere in the
code.
From there you could see why and how.

Joe,

The form Code is INC and user define prefix is blank.

Now, I checked sql log, escalation log and filter log but I couldn't find
any entry with those incident numbers, which is weird! Should I be able to
find a record with that incident number for example PPL00179188 ? It
doesn't find any match.

Thanks for all your help, it is very much appreciated.

Has anyone messed around with the data contained in the form
SHR:SchemaNames ? Or perhaps messed with the workflow that references that
form that does set fields?

If I am not mistaken these prefixes during the time of creation of an
incident, comes from the data contained in this table, in particular look
for data contained in the two fields: Form Code, and User Defined Prefix..

Not sure if that will lead you to a solution but you might as well strike
out possibilities..

Neel,

All I can say is that PPL is a prefix for CTM:People form and WLG is a
prefix for Work Log form.. Its strange that these prefixes seem to mix up
with your incident requests.. Have you noted under what circumstances
these wrong prefixes get used? Maybe this is indeed a bug and not

Subject: URGENT: Prefixes in Incident form?
Importance: High
Hello my fellow listers,

Some incidents are being saved with WLG and PPL prefix rather than INC. A
lot of incidents are still saved with INC. However the incidents that are
saved with WLG and PPL cannot be searched just by number because the
search automatically inserts INC.

What could possibly be causing incidents to be saved with anything besides
INC? Is workflow not being run on these because INC is what determines
they are incidents? How can they be changed back?

This is obviously super critical to my customers, any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Objet : DST Invalid Times Question

With 7.0.01p1, if a user submits a record with a date/time at or
between 3/11/07 2:00:00 am and 3/11 2:59:59 am, the following error is
returned:

Date is out of allowed range of 01/01/1970 - 01/19/2038 (GMT) for
Windows client. : value: FieldName (ARERR 1889)

Can anyone confirm is this is how the system behaved prior to the DST
patches? Any of you out there on 5.1.2 or unpatched care to test
entering a value of 3/11/2007 2:01:00 AM in one of your DateTime
fields to let me know.

Thanks,
Axton Grams

How to copy and paste from a view field without getting the URL

2007-01-25 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

Hope you are all doing well on this very cold winter day.

We have a request from our client that we are unable to resolve at this
moment May be one of you did something similar to what is required
This is what we are trying to do.

We need to have an internal tool (a web page) open once a ticket is
created for a specific equipment.
Currently, we are opening a dialogue box that contains a view field
pointing to the URL required to open the tool. This portion is working
perfectly well. We do see the diagnostique information for the
equipment
The problem is that we need to be able to capture the information being
posted in the view field and copy it in a field on the ticket.
We tried with the open window action, but all we get on the close is the
URL that was used to open the dialogue with the view field.
Since we need the information at the moment of the call, the URL is
useless.

Any clue?

OLE help required

2007-01-23 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

I need some help on the use of OLE.

This is what we need to do. We need to automatically open a specific URL
in IE. This part is easy and already done.
Where I need help is that we need to capture the information contained in
the open window from that URL and copy it into a field in Remedy.
I cant find any real information on OLE beside how to do a spell check or
open the URL...
Can anybody point me in the right direction, or tell me where I can find
the information.

Thank you

Pascale:

You will need to get the ARS 6.0 Java API files. The product may work with an ARS 5.1.2 server, but needs the files from ARS 6.0.

Thank you Torsten,
But we did purchase the Webmethods connector (version 6.0) and it is supposed to work properly with our 5.12 serveur. But we keep getting the error.
