what about the impression we have of you? someone who hides behind
anonymity, doensn't seem to have any affection for the place seeing as
you seem only to make fun of it. you don't even visit the place.
enjoying it seems impossible to you, though obviously there are people
who do...though since you don't come here you couldn't possibly know
that...and you still haven't come up with the proof that it was
supposed to be finished.

what are the posts like on a community board in your town? If i am
personalizing someone let me know, but my curiosity is intense. how
can you not wonder about the person behind such posts? fascinating. I
just can't imagine how I would come to be so negatively interested in
a place I don't live, don't visit and don't even like. vicarious
living and in a joyless way.

and you do realize that lots of posters don't even live in ap, right?
which would completely invalidate any reason to not come here based
on postings. You and Tracy are having the same problem on this one.

sort of like mistaking the map for the territory. eating the menu. and
just generally living life at arms length.

I turned some friends on to the group thinking they could back me up

[AsburyPark] Re: DEP designates Springwood Avenue Brownfield Development Area

2008-11-07 Thread sharon_b283
Wrong, JR! While a member of the Board of Adjustment from 1997-99, I
sat in on hearings from then owner, Phil Konvitz, about soil
contamination in all of the Springwood area, the stories of how the
leveled land was used as a dumping ground for old, discarded
appliances, that had to be dug up by backhoes, just to regrade
properties, for the few town homes over there!

At the time, his associate had come before the board, thinking that
the building of 3 bedroom homes, 2 baths, constituted a change of use,
when in fact, you need only to petition the board, if a complete
change is needed. The initial permit to build homes, had not changed,
so the new petition, was moot and needn't have come before us!

The fact that the land had old TV's refrigerators, stoves, etc., were
leeching chemicals from rain run-off, which is one reason why it is
designated Brownfield and run-off from Ocean Township that leeches
into Sunset Lake from Seaview Mall negates your statement that Asbury
Park doesn't think beyond its' borders. It's Neptune, that watches
everything Asbury does, then try to best them! That old bastion of
racism, Ocean Grove, has to comply with Neptune Township, since they
became part of it.

Some of my favorite lines excerpted from Maya Angelou’s 1993 Inaugural Poem.
 It seems more relevant now.

You , created only a little lower than
The angels, have crouched too long in
The bruising darkness….

Across the wall of the world,
A River sings a beautiful song.
It says, come, rest here by my side.

Before cynicism was a bloody sear across your
Brow and when you yet knew you still
Knew nothing.

The River sang and sings on.

Praying for a dream
Here, root yourselves beside me.

Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need
For this bright morning dawning for you.
History, despite its wrenching pain,
Cannot be unlived, and if faced
With courage, need not be lived again.

Women, children, men,
Do not be wedded forever
To fear, yoked eternally
To brutishness.

Here, on the pulse of this fine day
You may have the courage
To look up and out and upon me, the
Rock, the River, the Tree, your country.

Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister's eye and into
Your brother's face, your country
And say simply

Very simply

With hope

Good Morning.

[AsburyPark] Asbury Music Awards at Stone Pony

2008-11-07 Thread Jack Pitzer
Asbury Music Awards at Stone Pony
Asbury recognizes its own in awards show
BY STEPHEN BOVE • STAFF WRITER • NOVEMBER 7, 2008

ASBURY PARK — Sometimes, for a young indie chiseling away at rock immortality,
just one
night gone right is all it takes to strike gold.

That's exactly what an up-and-coming crop of hopefuls will vie for Saturday,
when the
Asbury Park music scene honors its next-generation superstars at the 16th
annual Asbury
Music Awards, live at The Stone Pony.

It's cool, because when people think of Asbury Park, they think of Bruce
Springsteen. So
it's really an honor to be a part of that now, said 17-year-old Zach Moyle,
Lost In Society
vocalist and guitarist. You meet a lot of cool people who have the same
interests, just
playing music and having a good time.

We're just looking at it like, This is awesome, and we're honored to be
nominated. If we
win, that's cool. If not, we're still nominated,' he added. Last year we
went, and there
was just so many people there; everyone was having a great time. It was just
something so
different, just to go and celebrate local music for once.

In addition to the privilege of being this year's show openers, the Oakhurst
alt-punks are
up for top honors in Top Punk/Ska Band and Top Young Band, nominated for the
latter
alongside Ministry Of Pain, Mystical Fudge, Bleed The Arsonist, Hollander,
Catalyst, Lemon
Juice, Amskray, Irie Sound and Outside the Box (also performing).

(Simply being nominated) is very gratifying, said Jeff Cafone, guitarist and
vocalist for
Outside the Box. We're fortunate to be part of a musical community that's made
up of our
friends and mentors, and the AMAs are the pinnacle representation of such a
close-knit
group.

This year's awards will feature live performances by nominees in such
categories as Top
Female Acoustic (Amanda Duncan), Top Male Acoustic (George Wirth), Top Male
Vocalist
(Anthony Fiumano The Medicine Chest), Top Female Vocalist (Eryn Shewell
Band), Top
Live Performance (Chris Batten and the Woods), Top Indie Rock Band (Delft), Top
Punk
Band (Lost in Society), Top Heavy Rock Band (Last Days of Empire), Top Blues
Band
(Outside The Box), Top Jam Band (Green Underground), Top Americana (Arlan
Feiles The
Lone Howdys) and Top Keyboard Player (Jerzy Jung).

My point to this year's awards is that there's this whole new wave of talent
that's been
bubbling under the surface that are now, finally, being pushed to the
forefront. There's a
new generation that's coming forward, said Scott Stamper, co-founder and
co-producer
of the annual event, along with partner Adam Weisberg.

(Asbury Park) is a music community. And, as with any community, if you want to
be a part
of it, you've got to be involved in it. You have to put your time in, said
Stamper in an
interview last year, who's co-owned The Saint with Weisberg since the Main
Street venue
opened in 1994. If you want to be noticed, you have to be seen. You have to be
out there,
onstage, working, playing shows.

In recognition of those artists who helped establish that community, last year
the awards
introduced a Beyond Asbury segment, which honors the artists who, no longer
AMA
nominees, have moved beyond the local scene to seek out the limelight of the
national
and international circuits. Beginning in 2009, this category will include a
featured
performer at the event, Stamper said.

2008 additions to the Beyond Asbury AMA hall of fame include April Smith The
Great
Picture Show, Keith Monacchio, The Gay Blades, Christine Martucci Band, Matt
O'Ree Band,

see the

all this is

I think we've touched on this here on the board. Relevant to AP (and
Freehold) for sure.

It's about...well I'm not sure I'm allowed to say what it's about.

Make sure you click the link at the end to see all the words that you
are not allowed to say anymore...by Court Order!!!

Arizona's Supreme Court Justice has agreed to enforce the Hispanic
Bar Association's demands of banning the terms illegal and aliens
in all of the state's courtrooms.

Claiming that the terms are inflammatory, the president of Arizona's
Hispanic Bar Association, (known as Los Abogados) has asked state
Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor to stop using them at
trials or hearings because they create perceptions of judicial bias.

In a strongly worded letter to the chief justice, Los Abogados'
president says attaching an illegal status to a person establishes a
brand of contemptibility, creates the appearance of anti-immigrant
prejudice and tarnishes the image of courts as a place where disputes
may be fairly resolved.

It further points out that no human being is illegal and that a
national Hispanic journalism association has roundly criticized the
reference for dehumanizing a segment of the population. The letter
goes on to criticize the state's High Court for using the
term illegals in at least two opinions and the term illegal
aliens in dozens of others.

It concludes with a list of acceptable and unacceptable terms
relating to illegal immigration. Among those the group wants banned
are; immigration crisis, immigration epidemic, open borders
advocates, anchor babies and invaders. Among the acceptable terms are
foreign nationals, unauthorized workers and human rights advocates.
Here's the banned words list via Judicial Watch:

The actual intent behind Senator Obama's misstatement is easy to
discern without the need to invoke an obscure international
organization. He was trying to express the thought that in all the
time he had spent on the campaign trail so far in 2007-08, he had
visited all (48) of the states in the continental U.S. save for one
(i.e., one left to go, excluding Alaska and Hawaii), but in his
weariness he slipped up and started off with fifty instead of
forty. (Note the long pause in the video clip between the words

John I think the point is that of course, everyone knows Obama knows
there are 50 states and not 60. Certainly he made a tired slip of
the tongue.

Follow anyone with a Camera for 2 years and you'll catch them in a

The problem is sometimes the media targets someone as stupid, and
will take any slip of the tongue as proof of stupidity.

For some reason, they were looking for any slip by Palin as proof of

They did the same to Dan Quale. There are a great deal of stupid

Go check out the video of the Potato incident. The teacher handed

Honestly, if I'm sitting there with a misspelled index card handed to

I think almost anyone would.

The media can ruin anyone once they decide to tell a story and stay

Probably the biggest chord she struck was her promise to advocate
for kids with disabilities.

Another lie:

Sarah Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%
For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it might
be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of
Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska. These
funds provide supplementary educational services to students with
severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy.
The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not
have the resources to provide an adequate educational program.
Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met
by the local school district in most cases.

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of
5,109,300 , or 62%.

[AsburyPark] Re: Madam Marie or Ouija?

2008-11-07 Thread justifiedright
Nice job quoting Daily Kos.

The reduction was done by the man she defeated, Murkowski.

Here's the real story, staight from Alaska:

Gov. Sarah Palin and state lawmakers have gone ahead with an overhaul
of Alaska's school funding system that supporters predict will
provide much-needed financial help to rural schools and those serving
students with disabilities.

The plan, enacted in the recently concluded session of the
legislature, is based on recommendations issued by a legislative task
force last year. It will phase in a greater flow of money to
districts outside of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, over the next
five years.

Advocates for rural and remote schools have lobbied for years for
more funding, in particular noting the higher fuel, transportation,
and other costs associated with providing education in communities
scattered across the vast state.

A second part of the measure raises spending for students with
special needs to $73,840 in fiscal 2011, from the current $26,900 per
student in fiscal 2008, according to the Alaska Department of
Education and Early Development (emphasis added).

No. It's like having William Hung on your show. She's a freak act
from the side show tent now. Plus, when it mattered:

For the first time ever, we have a vice presidential candidate who
has been shielded from the press to the extent that she has not held
a single, full-length press conference at which reporters are
permitted wide-ranging leeway to ask questions on policy issues,
campaign developments, personal and professional qualifications of
the candidate, etc. The closest we probably will come is this set of
fluff questions and answers from a brief question and answer period
aboard Palin's campaign plane. I guarantee that the reporters were
told that they risked being shut off completely once again if they
strayed from the approved list of topics or attempted to press her on
any of her responses.

  Another lie:

Sarah Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%
For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it
 might
be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of
Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska. These
funds provide supplementary educational services to students with
severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth
 Academy.
The resident school where the child would normally be placed does
 not
have the resources to provide an adequate educational program.
Without the supplementary services the child's needs would not be
 met
by the local school district in most cases.

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was
 $8,265,300.

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of
  5,109,300 , or 62%.

[AsburyPark] Heads Up AP Manager and Council -- $$$ may be in the offing

2008-11-07 Thread MarioAPNJ
Asbury Park powers-that-be:

With today's extremely dismal financial news (e.g., 1/4 million job losses,
auto industry to end payments to 401K's, et al.), it looks more and more like
the lame duck session of congress will allot some bailout monies to states
and municipalities with projects ready-to-go and limited only by finances.

Keep refreshing this news search:http://tinyurl.com/5bplw5

Two examples:

Bloomberg: ``The jobs message carried a lot of weight with voters,'' said
Jim Earp of the California Alliance for Jobs, a lobbyist for the construction
industry that helped finance the bond campaign. ``Voters understood that even
in these tough economic times there are some investments worth making.''

And Architectural Record: On the federal level, industry officials are
heartened by Obama’s support for infrastructure and, despite the deficit,
expect
him to back a new economic-stimulus bill that they hope will include money for
public works. “I think in the short-term they are going to overlook the
deficit problems and address some type of investment to get the economy
generated
again,” says Stephen E. Sandherr, CEO of the Associated General Contractors.
“There are projects out there that are ready to go. They will have an
immediate impact on the economy”. Some want to see Congress move on a stimulus
measure in a lame-duck session, but Sandherr believes it will be held over
until
next year.

Allowing the government to outlaw words is pretty insane. It will
never change how people feel about immigrants. Just a noose for
everyone to hang themselves on because we are more afraid of hurt

BUT...I agree that there is no such thing as an illegal person and
people coming to this country in hope of something better are looked

why not let move the political talk to the AP Political group, and let AP

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Madam Marie or Ouija?

2008-11-07 Thread Rock Musician
To be a Governer in Alaska is the highest level in the nation. The Governer of
Alaska is not just a governer. The are givin one of the Highist security
clearences in the USA. They have information givin to them every 3 hours on
National security. Alaska is the last state on the nuclear strike list for
America. They have to be able to respond incase of a nuclear strike. There is
no other Governer in the United States of America that is givin this clearence.
The governers of 3 major cities in the country are givin basic clearence which
means nothing and the rest of them are not givin anything in security
clearence. To get the clearence she has you have to be trained and your
background check has to be clean. Unlike some other shit voted in.
She is excellent at what she does. She would have done what had to be done with
securing our borders.    I cant say much for the new group thats in now. I dont
think they are interested in security. But I am hoping that I am wrong.

Mario did the LA Times write that while hiding the tape?

Of course Palin was a nod to conservatives. He certainly didn't
have them.

If he had asked Olympia Snowe he wouldn't have even come in second
in the race.

and every company that outsources

Every CEO or marketing guy should look at what ever they sell (and
really look) then do the following:

1. Look for their company on the Internet.
a) Look for their contact number for such things as customer service
b) marketing or sales

2. Look at the instructions that come with wahtever it is they sell
then:
a)Look for their contact number for such things as customer service

Then they should try calling whatever number they can find and ask:

1. What's this companies corporate number in the US?

I find it amazing that something so simple can be so hard.

Read about all the layoffs?

some companies can bring some jobs back to the US for starters.

AP would make a good place to build a call center to start with. then
lure some company in with all kinds of goodies.

BAGHDAD — Two Iraqi insurgent groups called on President-elect
Barack Obama to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and abandon the
war on terror, an Internet monitoring service reported Friday.

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, self-styled head of the Al Qaeda front group
the Islamic State of Iraq, said in a speech posted on an extremist
Web site that it would be better for you and us to withdraw your
forces and return to your homes, according to the SITE
Intelligence Group that monitors militant Web sites.

Al-Baghdadi blamed the global financial crisis on the wars launched
in Muslim countries and said he was issuing the call on behalf
of my brothers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Chechnya, SITE
said.

The U.S. military says al-Baghdadi is an actor who provides a voice
for Al Qaeda in Iraq propaganda.

In a separate statement, the Mujahedeen Army, a Sunni insurgent
group, urged Obama to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq or face days
that will be more difficult than the nightmare experienced by his
predecessor.

According to SITE, the statement said both Democrats and Republicans
share attitudes hostile to Muslims and both support Israel, which
means there will be little change in U.S. policy in the Middle East.

The one who won the presidential election won the approval of the
Jewish lobby, which controls, to a large extent, the administration
of American foreign policy, the Mujahedeen Army statement said.

The Islamic State of Iraq purports to be an umbrella organization of
religious extremist groups including Al Qaeda in Iraq.

The Mujahedeen Army emerged in late 2004 and has distanced itself
from al-Qaida because of opposition to the terror movement's attacks
on Shiite civilians.

Really? A college degree evidently did not make her smart or
informed. Why does she have her husband, an unpaid, unelected
relative, doing her dirty work? Apparently, she is illegally
allowing her husband to sit in while her cabinet is present. It
must be some kind of intimidating and unprofessional to have your
spouse overseeing, that NO ONE gets out of line!

I had 5 kids and one husband, too! I also had day care for the baby
and after school care for one other child. Expensive? You bet, but I
had a position that payed well and I could afford it, just like HER!

I had a job that involved using my brain and intelligence to solve
technical problems. I did system testing of many telephone systems
that all of you enjoy now, but back then, systems such as caller ID,
was not available to the public, as what is now the World Wide Web,
(USENET). I've been online since 1982 and a UNIX user since 1977, so
with my superior intellect and problem solving skills, I did 20 years
with ATT Bell Labs, a professional think tank! On my 15th year, I
became and still is, a Telephone Pioneer and a gold watch with Mercury
on its' face.

Everything I have, I worked for and I'm not ashamed. My children
think I'm brilliant, as does many of my friends. I'm a bird watcher
and amateur astronomer. I have an extensive coin and stamp collection
and I collect white porcelain. I live a very quiet life, now that the
kids are all gone, but I still love to sit in a stadium and watch a
good football game or track meet. No, I never entertained running for
office, because my 5 kids and husband, came first!

We all make decisons in life about marriage, family, work and careers.

Shit, I sat in a huge office in AIG in NYC during an interview and
made a choice family vs working anywhere in the world, probably 24
hours/day with AIG. I knew the drill. One of the toughest ceo's in
the world... I walked away. I walked out of an office when the vp
told me to cancel my planned family vacation and tell my wife that
 he'll buy her a steak...and go another time...I walked out on NY's
 eve to get home...

We all make choices and sacrafices if given the opportunity.

So you have great kids and apparently she does as well. And yes, even

Parenting is one thing. Keeping your fingers crossed and hoping your
kid does the right thing and survive stupid things is another.

One of the most interesting things about “Joe the Plumber,”
currently enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, is that he has an unpaid
judgment against him from “St. Charles Mercy Hospital” for about $1200.

http://tinyurl.com/6gqpz8

I find it interesting that a pretty healthy guy (he works full time
as a plumber, even if he’s not licensed) and an ambitious one too (he
wants to buy a business that makes $250,000, though it’s not clear
if that’s gross or net) has such a bill. Does he have health
insurance? If so, for what does he owe this prodigious amount? If
not, what care might he have possibly purchased that cost ONLY $1200?

isn't nor has she ever been. She is a poet and since she appeared on
Oprah and honored to have read that beautiful poem, she has become
jaded! There's a poem that she reads all the time, written by an
anonymous person. She's read it so many times, her audiences think
she wrote it. How I wish the person who wrote it would acknowledge
their work. I see lots of posters attributing parts of the poem to
her and I hate her for taking credit for anothers' work.

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Madam Marie or Ouija?

2008-11-07 Thread Jersey Shore John
He didn't just ask a candidate a question. Are you really going to
pretend to be that naïve to cover for another Right Wing hypocrite?
Go ahead. Fool yourself, if you must.

He was a plant. A set up. A stooge. A clacker. An operative. Everyone
knows it now, so you can just stop with the charade. It's looking
very, very pathetic, desperate and insulting to the other members of
this board.

Don't any every to that again.

One of the most interesting things about Joe the Plumber,

I find it interesting that a pretty healthy guy (he works full
 time
as a plumber, even if he's not licensed) and an ambitious one too
 (he
wants to buy a business that makes $250,000, though it's not
 clear
if that's gross or net) has such a bill. Does he have health
insurance? If so, for what does he owe this prodigious amount?
 If
not, what care might he have possibly purchased that cost ONLY
 $1200?

[AsburyPark] Sexy Ideas

2008-11-07 Thread Gabrielle Obre
I am holding onto my fantasy of having an idea festival in AP. In the
meantime, I wanted to share a good one with you. Dean Ornish is an MD
who has written books on more natural ways to heal. This talk is
wonderful. He discusses among many things, the importance of community.
Its about 17 minutes long. Its good for you. And he talks about sex.
