[AsburyPark] Snow Everywhere

2010-12-29 Thread new_beetoap
I've been in snow for almost a month but these countries in Europe really know
how to deal with it, Sure there were problems, but what NJ got would be
considered a flurry over here. It put a cramp in my vacation travels but added
to to ambiance.

I'm not surprised reading about APs problems with with cleanup, it just follows
that same pattern I've seen with the redevelopment. Incompetence. I'm glad some
other members have the guts to say so.

When you can't get life and safety services to every resident you've got a
problem. After all isn't that the bare bones expectation of service from an
urban area like AP? Your taxes are huge and the biggest budget item is fire and
police.

You all deserve to get your money's worth. Glad there was no fire anywhere.
Have a great New Years's (even those that love to beat me up) LOL

Jack's and Oak's comments have been most reasonable. And regarding those
anti-gov people, keep in mind that, during this state of emergency for a
storm that forecast well in advance, guv chris christie and Lieutenant
Governor Kim Guadagno are MIA. The guv who has made a name for himself by
scapegoating government employees is at Disney World. The lieutenant governor
who
is supposed to be in charge when he is absent is in Mexico.

Dealing with a heavy snowfall is s much art as it is science and requires

I agree with you on what the small gov'mint people are feeling! They want a
government that miraculously come to their aid in
weather emergencies like this but 9-11, should have taught everyone
to be prepared! We have had almost 2 weeks of weather warnings that the
storms that flooded Southern California was headed this way.

I can't think of anyone NOT watching or hearing of the weather debacle headed
this way! Right now, there's hardly anything open for business for lack of
municipal services unprepared! This storm was not as bad as the Blizzard of
'96, but the response is terrible, as usual.

Over the last 3 decades I've seen municipal and State workers pay go
past what Federal Workers were getting, but as far as services, equipment went
wanting and privatized as in garbage collections, streets being repaired and
general infrastructure go begging!

So you hated Corzine the billionaire and voted for the thug/bully
prosecutor who made his career fighting so-called corruption, more like
entrapment using the infamous Dwek, so he can get a lighter sentence for
ratting out people suspected of criminal action.

He comes into Trenton, like the bully he is and berate the teachers and any
worker covered by a union, makes the Democrats look like the bad guys they

I got my wife to work in toms river yesterday. Came back and got rid of my
mother in law to ac airport stopped and played a few hands of blackjack went to
shoprite wegmans then turned around and went back to toms river for my
wife...the parkway was near perfect.

By the home depot I went around two stuck cars to offer to pull them out and I
was cursed at.

I was in a jeep. A rough regular ride but a great snow car.
No one was supposed to be on the road. Last. Night 35 was stop a mess and 18
just getting done.

As far as the city getting key employees dug out that's emergency management.
Face it in the event of a real disaster you're on your own. Look at katrina.

It was a state of emergency. And if it weren't for my motherinlaw I wouldn't of
been here either.
Now I have to go shovel some snow off a flat roof and deck.
In cave man days the wife complained about walking. The husband was pisses and
chisled a rock and made a wheel. We have the internet to waste time and bitch.

Now the people on the east side get a small sample of what the people on the
southwest side dealt with on a different scale.

We have cars and can't drive.

There are so few jobs that people can't telecommute for a day or two...unless
its critical care. You can do facebook and shop from home just like work.

2010-12-29 Thread 2fast4u
Thanks, Steve. I forwarded it to my kids, living out of state
who are used to the kind of response/lack of response, to disasters
like this. If any of you have lived in NJ for ANY period of time, KNOW
to prepare for the WORST! I lived in Neptune for 20 years, paid huge
real estate taxes and for my promptness, received NOTHING in return.
My street was a block and a half long! Last street to be plowed, even though
we had a postal worker living right next door.

My kids called to see if we are okay. Knowing me my sons knew that I
am like a squirrel in the Fall. This being the Holidays, I can feed an ARMY!
When I was younger, I was like that guy! I KNOW the feeling! So when
tea-partiers scream for small government, THIS is
what you get. No matter that Asbury Park residents are OVER-taxed,
bad or no planning is how this goes. Politicians who think they have it made
and think these residents have small memory are IN for it, next elections or
you get what you elect!

hinge, I think we can all vagree its stupid for people to get out in thier
cars for non-emergencies. I think there are probably few people who are out
driving to get milk for thier coffee.

It sounds like you are saying both you and the city blames abandoned cars
for a lack of plowing... but these few abandoned cars are NOT an excuese for
only having one front end loader to try and move snow AFTER the fact for the
entire city.

If there was a plan in place - a plan for snow removal that we the people
pay taxes for - they could have lessened the impact by plowing as it was
snowing, salting the roads, etc.

This is not an emergency yet. i am happy and have food at home and water and
electricity. I am however angry as hell that the city PD blows me off and
says it doesnt know when the streets will be plowed, the DPW doesnt answer
the phone and answering machine is full, and that there are no police out
there for public safety , or tow trucks to take care of abandoned cars or PD
to ticket the absentee landlords and lazy homeowners who have not yet plowed
thier sidewalks!!

Im fed up and im going out to shovel the damn street myself

While I agree with your point about taking action instead of complaining,
this is one case where the government response to an important need was
inadequate. For example, Route 35 in Ocean Township looked like a war zone,
even at 11 pm on Tuesday. At the same time, the parking lots of the Monmouth
Mall, Wegman's, and even Red Lobster were all infinitely better than the

 clearing the snow?

ah yes, so now the expected becomes the exemption.
when a block of houses is on fire we don't praise the one or 2 firefighters

we dont praise the trash men who pick up one or 2 houses worth of trash

I personally don't lay down and just pay the bill when i am over charged or

Two exceptions seems to be Rahway where streets seem to be passable, and
Newark where Mayor Booker has done a commendable job of communicating with
 residents.

When you can't get life and safety services to every resident you've got a

an urban area like AP? Your taxes are huge and the biggest budget item is
 fire and police.

You all deserve to get your money's worth. Glad there was no fire
anywhere. Have a great New Years's (even those that love to beat me up) LOL

This was a disaster class snow storm. We all had plenty of warning. The big

why did people ignore the warnings and chose to drive, and then get stuck and
block the process of cleaning the mess. We've come to a point in our culture
when we either blame others because people don't want to accept the blame, or
blame the government that we think is too big for not serving us. Honestly,
toughen up and get over it.

There will always be assholes in the world. But I think the abandoned car bs is
overplayed here and in NYC. They started too late and did not do enough. I saw
abandoned cars and the roads could have still been plowed better where they
were stuck but weren't. I bet a lot got stuck because the roads were not plowed
in time. How the f$ck do major highways remain shut down two days after a storm
has ended. Give me a break. I am beginning to think that a lot was done on
purpose because of cuts here and in NYC. Two trucks can plw an entire highway.
What the hell is the problem?

[AsburyPark] Disgusted

2010-12-29 Thread wernerapnj
I was able to free my vehicle this afternoon and enter the public road, 5th Ave
East of Grand . We have a serpentine one car width path with a 15 feet high
pile of snow in the middle of the road.

Heck Street is completely snowed in and has not seen any attempt at clean-up,
people there are stranded.

Went East to the Beachfront and found that 5th Ave between Kingsley and Ocean
is completely plowed clean, curb-to-curb. There was not a soul down there aside
from a few people with their dogs and with snow blowers doing the MM sidewalks.

What are the City's priorities ? Obviously not to address the dire need of
residential areas such as mine that are dodging snow mountains in the road or
are completed snow-bound. Instead an area with minimal traffic and no
residents is cleared instead.

Werner

Neptune's 4x4  vehicle ems vehicle carrying a critical patient got stuck on my

avail
neighborhood ended up getting blankets so the  patient could be placed on a
sled
like gurney and pulled three blocks short of 35 to an oem vehicle. ems left the
vehicle returned to have the vehicled pulled out by a private contractor with a
front loader who worked for neither Neptune or AP nothing else has come through
ridge ave. Last year when city personnel started salting/sanding and plowing
when the snow started we weathered the storm-I am fortunate enough to take time
off using personal/vacation days some people are not as fortunate and when they
miss a day they miss pay or could possibly be fired as was the threat to my

the street will soon be plowed??? First two days we rec'd reverse 911 calls
nothing since so this should be exceptable I think not-The State
