Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Linn Records now doing FLAC
An issue I have run into is having the buffer empty to zero during the song. I downloaded a Claire Martin 24/96 FLAC album which I'm streaming FLAC-FLAC via SS 6.5.1.2 on my Infrant NV (1GB RAM). I thought it might be a WIFI issue so I ran a cat5e cable to it from my gigabit switch and the problem still occurs occaisionally. I will investigate more and post any discoveries. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SS going into PAUSE on it's own
(I posted this originally on the 'General' forum but since the Audiophile forum seems to have very tech-savvy members I thought I would give it a try here.) I am running SlimServer on my Infrant NV and while in PLAY mode it goes into PAUSE with no input from me. I have about 450 songs in the playlist and have my Transporter synced with my SB3. I have Repeat ALL enabled. The same thing happens with the SB3 synced to the TP. Occasionally the music just stops playing. Sometimes it occurs after 15 minutes of play, other times after several hours. When I check the SS interface on either my laptop or PC it shows PAUSE. As soon as I click on PLAY on either remote control or via my PC or laptop it resumes play. How do I keep this from happening? Details: Model: Infrant ReadyNAS NV 4x300GB SATA HDD in XRaid Firmware: RAIDiator v3.01c1-p6 [1.00a034] Memory: 1024 MB [2.0-2-2-6] RAIDar version: 3.01c1-p1 SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11221 - Linux - EN - utf8 Server IP address: 192.168.1.XX Perl Version: 5.8.8 sparc-linux MySQL Version: 5.0.24a-Debian_3.infrant1 All music files are FLAC (ripped from my CDs using EAC/secure, compression level eight) and kept in the standard Infrant /c/media/Music folder. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: FF or RW using FLAC?
I'm not even going to pretend to be able to tell. I'm temporarily living in a condo with 0 acoustical treatment and hardwood floors. Also, I'm listening to my system (which is out in the living room) from the 'office' (off to the side) through a set of french doors. The only discernable difference is that my NV is running a bit quicker now. The SS interface is more responsive. I was listening to my jazz collection today using shuffle songs. I've got over 300 jazz CDs so that was a bit of a load for the NV since it had to do the processing instead of just the streaming. I have been bothered by very short dropouts (~1 second maybe every 3rd or 4th song) which I assumed was due to a less than optimal WIFI signal. I have not heard a dropout since I made the switch. So in essence there is a difference I guess, no dropouts. ;) -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30790 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Slim Devices Transporter?
In my entire collection, I've only ever had a handful of discs that contained errors that EAC could not properly rip. Of course admittedly I'm Mr. Super-Perfectionist, so you will be hard pressed to find even a fingerprint on any of my CDs. EAC would scan and scan and then report the bad rip. It did provide me with the exact position so I could give it a listen, and on 2 occaissions I could actually hear what I would describe as a sort of fuzzy 'click' or 'pop' that was not part of the track. Of course, these discs were the same ones that I had lent to a friend for her party, they were finally returned months later looking as though they had been used as either clay pigeons or as tiny shovels to dig through gravel. I found a local used record store that had a professional quality CD resurfacing machine along with aa young guy who was very well trained to use it. The discs came back looking like new and ripped without a glitch. If you have a bad CD, I might suggest doing the same. The cost came to about $3 per disc, much cheaper than buying new. This was after I first tried 2 different and popular consumer grade scratch removers, they were worthless and I returned them. The S lugs are for voltage sensing NOT supply power. To get supply voltage out for your SB, wires should be on +OUT and -OUT. Although technically since you did not remove the jumpers between the sensing and supply lugs it will work, it is just that the power goes across the jumper than into your soldered-on wire. I removed the jumper and ran 4 wires out to the plug. This way the voltage is sensed right when it goes into the SB and I can set the PSU to maintain 5V right at the plug. p.s. mine did not have a varistor on the transformer as yours does, you must have a different model. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Best mod?
A follow-up, I just found some instructions, they said for operation at 120V to jumper pins 13, and also pins 24, apply AC at 41 (as I already was), and fuse at .5A. I will do some soldering and let you know how the voltages change. Gotta run to Radio Shack to get some stuff. One last question, don't both the SB2 and SB3 draw a bit more than .5A? Should I fuse it a bit higher? How much? Thanks again! :-) -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18491 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Follow-up number 2: I just quickly soldered a jumper across those pins and checked the voltage across +OUT to -OUT, a rock-steady 5.04VDC! WOOHOO! Now, to go find an enclosure locally that looks even cooler than Heuer's. ;-) Oh, and did I fail to mention that I only paid $2.95 USD for this PSU! -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18491 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

That is the PSU that I am using. I'm really having a difficult time finding an enclosure. The only one I found thus far is from RatShack and it is plastic. They are silent. This project will be on hold until I can find a decent enclosure that will fit. Will not have another chance to work on this until Sunday or Monday at the earliest. Hammond made a couple of really nice aluminum ones, but just a bit to small unless I remove all of the components from the base. I need one with I.D. of (minimum) 4 x 5 x 2.5, prefer something aluminum and somewhat stylish since this not be out of site. -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18491 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Best mod?
OK, a couple of quick pics before I have to get some other stuff done. Desoldered the existing wire harness, cleaned up the contacts and soldered jumpers from 1-2, and 3-4. Then, temporarily clamped the mains onto 1 and 4, and got a very steady 5.06 VDC. This should work well once it is done. +---+ |Filename: HB5-3_OVP-A_c_lo.JPG | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=626| +---+ -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18491 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I read a few tips on the Infrant site specifically for improving the speed of SS on the X6, maybe they will help in your situation. I could not find the link, but it dealt with turning of statistics in SS. This option is ONLY in the Infrant version of SS. I have not yet used it, so I cannot tell you exactly where to find it. Perhaps if you post on the Infrant site someone can provide more info. Let me know if it helps as I have an X6 on the way. -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19215 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] *CROSS-POST* ReadyNAS 600/X6 SB2
Sorry for the cross post, but no responses in the 'general' forum. Input/advice appreciated, thanks! I am seriously considering going with a new Infrant X6 for my NAS and to run Slimserver. 1. For those that are already doing this, have there been any issues or recurring problems? 2. My music is currently located at J:\MUSIC\_FLAC_DB on my HDD #3, and each album is in it's own sub-folder. How are/do you designate the music folder on the ReadyNAS? 2a. Is it flexible (i.e. you can name it whatever you like)? 3. Will it still read the sub-folders? 4. Also, can you update the X6 using the dailies, or must you use the version of Slimserver from the Infrant site? Thanks. Any other comments suggestions would also be helpful. I am planning to set it up on my Linksys 10/100/1000 network (wired), connected directly to the switcher. -- Jetlag Jetlag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19215 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] nOOb DAC advice
Hi, first post! I just took delivery of my first SB2 today. Unfortunately, it was defective (nothing appeared on the screen, ever. UPS strikes again). It's replacement is already on the way (thank you Slimdevices C.S. and Kevin in Tech Support!) While I am waiting for it, I was wondering what success folks have had coupling it to an upsampling DAC? I'm currently looking at a few different models but first wanted to get your input. The SB2 will be fed via gigabit ethernet from my homegrown 500GB server. It contains all of my CDs in FLAC format, which I ripped using EAC in secure mode. So the data is pristine, just want the sound to be as good as possible. The Benchmark DAC1, April Music Stello DAC and the Bel Canto DAC2 are on my maybe list so far. Any other suggestions? Cost is a bit of an issue, so no mega-buck DACs like the Philips/Meitner.
