RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] AxaptaCOMConnector on WindowsCE

2008-07-18 Thread Brandon George
Yeah, honestly you will Not be able to get the COM Connector on the
device. Your best bet is to make use of Web Services to expose the COM
Connector, since this is AX 3.x, and then you can connect either a web
front end or a WinCE Form Front end (or both) to the web services.

That is what I would recommend.

Hi!

I want to use Ax3.5 ComClients on Symbol MC-3090 devices with WindowsCE.

The way to solve, I've heard, is to use Visual Studio 2003.

I've used this product (2003.NET + SP1) and in Microsoft Visual Basic I
can produce an app for WindowsCE. Everything works fine until I add a
reference to AxaptaCOMConnector.

Can anyone give me "Status Quo" to basic solving of such project

I understand your using out of box, but like I said the IEM vertical we
can offer really extends this to a great level, and in particular to
your question lifecycles exist. Meaning you can tie a lifecycle to a
task or milestone, and have these lifecycles help track, transition, and
drive the actual workflows of the task to milestones, etc. Again though
that is Not base DAX but through the IEM vertical add-on.

On top of that we would like the managers to be able to access the

web based entry is hours but we would like to have managers enter
forecasts via the web.

Let me add that we sale and implement the To-Increase IEM vertical

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] How to cancel and close Invoice register with same voucher which another voucher has been approval?

2007-10-16 Thread Brandon George
Ummm The first issue it that you are on 3.0 SP1. You Have to upgrade
to at least SP5, because a LOT of issues in and around what you are
talking about is addressed in: SP2, Sp3, Sp4, and Sp5. Sp5 is the min.
but if your upgrading you might as well upgrade to SP6, or DAX 4.0.

Until you upgrade to at least SP6 for 3.0, your working on an
Unsupported version.

register with same voucher which another voucher has been approval?

Hi,

We are using Axapta 3.0 sp.1, and our ledger setup is allowing to do
posting same voucher number.
This is the scenario:
For instant, the voucher number is 999 and then we make 3 transaction
posting (3 journal number) in invoice register. After that we have been
done for invoice approval only for one transaction (the rest 2
transaction still have not done yet). Because the accounting does not
want to book approval for the same time.
In a few months later, then accounting decide to approve these 2
transactions, but it can not be done, it because there is an error
message this voucher already approved. I am pretty sure this is because
they are using same voucher number.

Is there anyone of you know how to solve this problem? (even technical
solution also ok for me).

Thanks in advance.

You will need to create a custom end point and action class that will
perform this for you. You can model it off of the readSalesInvoice. As

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: 3 Way Match

2007-06-26 Thread Brandon George
Honestly, and the CPA's on here can voice up, but for Ax 3.0 and even
4.01 there is no real 3 way match, in terms of what is defined by US
standard accounting for 3 way matching. I am no CPA, I am a Tech Guy,
but from what I understand the issue is with the Journals. See if a true
3 way match existed, then the flexibility of the ledger system in DAX
that everyone loves, would be restrained and not work in the fashion
everyone loves. Because of this, 3 way match, as everyone understands
such a thing, does not 'really' exists. However it can be achieved, but
there is extra leg work described. Technically though it is not a 3 way
match.

-Brandon

P.S. CPA's chime in here about this and explain in accounting terms.

Ok,

(1.) First glance recompile and come out and back in.

(2.) Past the code that it is complaining about

(3.) Give more details of what you added, how you added etc.

Then someone can help you more. Also do this only if (1) does not work,
because could be just a Object issue, mostly likely not, and you might
have already done that, but just in case. After you don (1) do (2-3) and
then someone can give you some help. :-)

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Virtual companies query

2007-06-05 Thread Brandon George
Anisha,

This must be done via SQL Statement. The dataareaid can not be changed
from within Dynamics AX. Be careful though, because what you will have
to do is make sure you don't try to have duplicate data in the same
company.

For example if you have:

CustomerA, CustName, DA1

CustomerA, Cust Name, DA2

CustomerA, C U S T Name, DA3

And now you want all of these shared with a virtual company of vc1. Then
you need to decided out of these 3 records which one is the correct one
and share it only. Remove the others. So there is some data clean up as
part of this if duplicate data exists.

2007-04-30 Thread Brandon George
Also,

I want to point out that I work with To Increase eCon business rules
engine. And with this you can integrate with AutoCAD and it's very nice!
If anyone wants more information on To Increase check out my blog and
search for To Increase. [http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com]

Thanks,

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Standar Cost

2007-04-27 Thread Brandon George
In what you have described the answer is yes, because the adjustments were
applied to purchases, and the credit note was made off of a Sales Order.
Therefore the Sales side, or Issue side, was not affected by the adjustment.
[Based on what you said below.]

Hi:

How are you?

I´ll describe my scenario:
1) I made purchase orders, sales orders and credit note from sales
orders. standard cost 12.00.
2) I changed cost to 14.00 at the end of the month.
3) I adjusted the transactions, only purchases, i expect that the
entires from credit notes also were going to be included.
4) I made the inventory closing, so all the transactions were 14.00,
except for the credit note transaction.

Is it corect that the credit note transactions still manteint the cost
of 12.00?

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Information About ADO Classes

2007-02-27 Thread Brandon George
Hello,

You can check out my blog: http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com
as I have posted about them. I use
them all the time when I need to connect to an outside database, in
order to create X++ object that handle that underlying data layer, and
so I can work with X++ objects that represent the ADO datasets. They are
very handy and one of the thing's I like to do is create a new object,
that either extends from or make use of CCADO class framework. There is
also an ADOX which is suppose to be the ADO.Net versions. CCADO is a COM
call to the ADO 2.x objects.

Thanks,

Brandon

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Encrypting password

2007-01-31 Thread Brandon George
To talk about this further, such a thing is not needed, as the User
Accounts are only aliases, as Active Directory manages the users, and
therefore AD manages the passwords, etc. To conclude there is no need to
perform this anymore, because you have to log into DAX 4.0 with a AD
Domain Account.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Stop field displaying default value

2007-01-29 Thread Brandon George
Bob,

Couple of ways to do this:

1.) Change the Base Enum so the first value is blank. [Not
Recommended]

2.) Create New Base Enum, that is the same as old, except with blank
and change the field to extend from that one. [Ok]

a.) Add code that would check on ValidateWrite() to see if blank is
selected and if so do not allow write, and throw error

3.) If PREPAID is not a valid option for you at all, change the Text
value / label for that enum element to "DO NOT USE" [something like
that], and add code to check and throw error if used. [50/50]

If I were to do it, I would do number (2) but then you have to realize
that you are modifying this, document it, so that on upgrades you make
sure this gets carried over.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Avg. Weighted Costing, and PO Getting Adjustment, but is closed

2007-01-29 Thread Brandon George
Ok,

So here one for the Financial people among us. This is what I am coming
across:

(1) We have Avg. Weight Cost in action

(2) We have PO's that are "Financially Closed" but still receive
adjustments.

(3) The period that these were in, for some or the same period, and
some are two previous periods.

So my question, is why? Why does my PO's get adjustments posted against
them, even though they are Financially closed? Is there an option,
settings, etc. that drives this? Any advice or help on this would be
great! Thanks in advance!

on your requirement I think you just create a class that will add the

if the day is greater than 5 then add st as in 25th,4th,25th
if the day is 3 - add rd as in 3rd,23rd,63rd
if the day is 2 - add nd as in 2nd,92rd
if the day is 1 - add st as in 41st,61st

I have never tried this before, but you might be able to build a query
from a query. So for example:

Query1 = Order By DataSet

Query2 = Built from Query 1, Group by the DataSet

I also thought you could Order and Group By within X++ SQL Statements...

2007-01-13 Thread Brandon George
James,

First the Client will not run on a CE or Windows Mobile Device. Here
are your two options, which I have / am designed, developed, and
deployed for:

(1) Create a Compact.Net Framework Fat client application that
connects (->) A Web Service, that makes use of the .Net Business
Connector to expose (->) X++ Business Logic

(2) Create a Mobile Web Application (ASP.Net Mobile Application)
That calls (->) the same web service, that makes use of the .Net
Business Connector, to expose (->) X++ Business Logic.

Those are your two options. Choices between the two depend on what your
wanting to do, and what type of connectivity the devices will have.

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] AX client on Windows CE possible?

Has anyone ever tried to run AOS client on Windows CE?

We are implementing barcode scanning directly into AX 4.0 on a windows
CE
device (Symbol). We can use the terminal server approach but I am just
wondering whether a direct install of AX client on the device might be
worth
a try as it would give us more control (things like calls to OS to
device
API to switch off scanning engine in the device etc which would not be
possible with terminal server approach)

Thanks

James

I agree that CSV file is faster than Excel, but if you have close to
65000 records I would never recommend using it. Still going to take,
much, much longer than X++ code.

Most of the time, during implementations, you can re-use a lot of the
same X++ import scripts that you have done in the past. Still I never
recommend going that route if you have over 40,000 records. The time it
will take to develop an X++ import code, and import it vs. using the
standard import is much less, much less. Plus you have the X++ code
developed now, and have total control, and you can build from that, and
re-use.

X++ is so much better, and the far better choice. Now for one time
imports, that deal with new installations, that are less than 40,000
records per spreadsheet, CSV file, sure use the standard. If you go
beyond that, your wasting time...

Hi,

Just to add few words on data import process using Excel. One can speed
up the data import process using CSV format files instead of using XLS.
And I believe using the standard way to import is better then writing
extra code for the same if number of records is less then 65000 (because
of excel limit for number of records).

You are right in your steps (basically) for creating Excel Import
Templates. I mean you could go into more detail about import data def.,
etc. And custom validation X++ code on the data def. But basically
that's exactly what you have to do for importing via the standard
import. This is great for Functional Consultants, during implementation,
on small data sets.

However compare this: 65,000 record limit for Excel Spreadsheet. If you
fill that up, it will take 4-7 hours for Ax to bring in that data via
those imports. Now take 65,000 records, and import via X++ code, it will
take 3-7 mins., at max! You compare those numbers. Also think about how
many iterations you have to go through until the data is right? Now
times those iterations by the time it takes to bring in the data, you
tell me what is the best way?

Again for small data sets, and not automating the process, the excel
spreadsheets are great. Also, Amit said he wanted this done on a monthly
process, that means automation... so X++, integration point, is for sure
the way to go for the Monthly process. Granted you can use BizTalk,
MSMQ, AIF, Web Services, DotNet, X++, and any and all of those mixed
together to create an importing framework, that can then be extended to
each integration point (ie: FAS 1000 Fixed Assets) for automating the
process, and making it fast, effective, and have total control over the
entire thing. You need a technical person to do what Amit is wanting to

Hi Amit,

I hope you can import the said data into Axapta using Excel Import
comfortably.
To my knowledge, for any module's data:
1) Identify the necessary tables in Axapta and create Excel Templates.
2) Fill the external data (for example FAS1000 Fixed Assets Data)
into the above created templates.
3) Include extra userdefined validations, if any required.
4) Import the data from the excel templates using Axapta Excel Import.

I have mentioned in a very brief manner, please add up more details
if any one can and also correct me if any thing is to be corrected in
my steps.

We did the similar imports to various modules comfortably.
NOTE:
Pls check whether all the posting are giving correct results once
after importing.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] RE: about Best FAS software integration with Dynamics Ax

2007-01-11 Thread Brandon George
Hello,

Well first my Name is Brandon, last name George, but that's ok. I get
it all the time, having three first names! :-)

Secondly, glad to help, but with any such integration you will need
technical expert to handle that for you. I mean you can use the standard
Excel Spreadsheet import, but then you will have to manually enter the
data into excel or write VBA code (or VSTO, C# code) to connect to the
FAS file, and format the data into the Excel spreadsheet, and then
import that through the standard importing process.

If you don't like that way (I don't know anyone who does) then you will
have to write integration code. In 4.0 you can make use of DotNet
Assemblies, and therefore, you could create a DotNet assembly that
wrapped the file from FAS and exposed the data via that way. Then write
X++ class that calls upon the said DotNet Assembly, and bring in the
data in that way. You could then write a RunBaseBatch class that called
the X++ Process class, to have it scheduled as a Monthly Batch job. As
long as the file existed, then you would have a pretty automated
process. Still technical knowledge is needed to do so.

There are of course many different ways, but the best way always depends
on the given instance at hand. If you need more information, and would
like to engage Technical Help on this, I could pass your information
along to our Account managers, and have them contact you. Either way,
best of luck!

Hi George,

thanks for all these perspectivewhat i meant was not a seamless
integration with AX and FAS 1000 but something like import of say for
example the depreciation transaction, acquisition, disposal etc
transactions from FAS to Axapta on monthly basis before month end
closing. Axapta do have a menu in general journal
lines-Funcstions->import BEST FAS file to populate the ledger from the
saved FAS file. I am not sure what does that do but think that it should
read a specific FAS format and populate the data to be posted in Ax.

Off course there should be mapping of our Ax ledger journal line fields
and the data from FAS, i am not finding any such setup to be done in
Axapta for this mapping/tagging, so was wondering if that is in FAS,
where we can define that export the transactions with x,y,z.fields
as required in Ax and Ax does is just import it to the required fields
after reading the file.

This would be one way integration through file import i.e from FAS to
Axapta. i do not have any idea if i am talking sence but what i know is
there is something that talks to Ax but how no idea.

I just wanted to know if any one has worked on this part, and it is a
simple do-able task for a functional consultant with little guidance or
involves technical skills like COM, .Net assembles as mentioned by you.

thanks and appreciate your response

Amit

Alright,

One I think your being to general in your question. Two how do you want
to integrate? Push from FAS? Pull From Dynamics AX? Bi-Directional?

Also what integration method? DotNet Assemblies? Web Services? AIF? COM?
I mean you have to be more specific on the details of the integrations.
And as for mapping the fixed assets, well I don't think someone will do
that for free, for you You have to learn the data set of FAS, and
then know the data set of Dynamics AX... also is this a one time pull
from FAS? How often will this happen? Should it be done nightly via a
Batch Server?

These are all VERY important questions to be answered, before anyone can
give you any advice for this integration you are trying to do And

Thought it was pretty funny but a little breathless :)

Have to agree with the cumbersome part on the SAP side, although the
power to change anything at anytime on the AX side I've seen have
interesting ramifications, business-wise.

But with 7000+ templates or whatever it's up to now (most are variations
on a theme), SAP really doesn't care how you run your business and no
one is limited to the templates anyway. The templates are just for speed
of implementation purposes, results may vary :)

As far as the advocacy of Microsoft seamlessness.I was asleep last
night and may have missed it :)

So SOA and JBOWS are coming to save us? Can't wait :)

On the contrary, here in Denmark, I think the time is running i the

May I say, very well put! You hit the nail dead on the head, and that is
why I have seen Dynamics AX 4 beating out SAP for new customers 3:1.

The only thing I have done concerning SAP is buying and reading a book
for the ABAP/4 programming language. Someone can correct me if I am
wrong on this one but as far as I know SAP does not have the high level
of flexibility for customization that Dynamics AX has and from my
reading and comparison the interface is not as intuitive for the
developer and user as Dynamics AX.

To a large extent I think people want to be able to customize their
unique business processes instead of being forced to use something out
of the box that may fail as a result inflexibility. With Dynamics AX, if
you have an idea you have an "opportunity".

Hallo Gurus,

Have anyone ever compared between Axapta 4 and SAP features,
especially in Financial modules? Things that Ax can't do but SAP can
and vise versa.
What i know SAP has Fund management and need customization in Ax.
Others?

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Item Master Record

2007-01-05 Thread Brandon George
Just to re-cap this topic.

In order to have a InventTable record show up, it needs to have the
following data:

 -InventTable

 -InventItemLocation

 -InventTableModule (3 records here)

Also a valid InventDim must exists (to start Axapta should be fine).

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] URGENT!!! Please help

2006-06-02 Thread Brandon George

The Delivery Remainder is fine...

I have traced this to the InventMovement class, and the CheckUpdateFinancail() method. It returns an error at this point:

if (this.mustBeUnitControlled() && ! updateNow.parmAllowPhysicalReduction())
    {
    if (updateNow.parmFinancialUnit() == 0)
    ok =  checkFailed("@SYS4670");

  *** - Error Here - *** ->   if (updateNow.parmFinancial() * updateNow.parmFinancialUnit() <= 0)
    ok = checkFailed("@SYS5382");

    }

The updateNow.parmFinancial() = 0 so 0*2 = 0 and there for equals to the checkFailed("@SYS5382")

Does anyone have any more idea's based on this information?

Thanks,
Brandon

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Remote Axapta client software?

2006-06-02 Thread Brandon George

Terminal Server is the best option for you, and very secure. I have
Several clients that already use it.

It also gives you the ability to setup printers so when they log on to
Term Server they can have their printers, access to their C:\ drive, and
also other network mappings from within the TS session.

Trust me most secure and best way you will find, other than the web
approach.

Hi Malcom,

My network administrator had some security concern using Windows
Terminal Services - not sure what.

Would that be similar to a PC Anywhere connection where they are
actually working on a session that is here at headquarters?  If so,
can they print their paper work at their site?

Either Terminal server, or Run Enterprise Portal which can be developed upon in order to allow user to access and perform task with Axapta through ASP.

The quickest to get up and running will be to use Terminal Server.

We have a remote location - 2500 miles.  They need to enter customer
orders, pick, pack, ship and invoice as well as online queries.

The Axapta client is inefficient for this type of connection over a DSL
line.

Does anyone have a better experience? Does anyone know of a client
specifically written for Axapta - perhaps an ASP?

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Linking LedgerJournalTrans to VendTrans

I figured this out.

Basically had to recreate the code that is used for the Display method
on the grid for the Settlement Form.

This used the Specification class, and it's sub class,
Specification_OffsetVoucher. Anyway took a little bit, and I plan to
post on my blog: http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com that explains it in
greater detail.

Hello,

Can anyone give me in advice as how to best accomplish this!?

But SQL 2005 is required to run it, if you want to use the SQL server reporting services and reports, etc.

Active Directory is required. No you can not log into 2 separate instances
with 2 different users on the same machine. Windows 2000 is supported as far
as I know. SQL 2005 is not required to run AX 4.0.

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Layman's Spec questions

Hi everyone,

I just finished reading Layman's Spec for AX40 and I have a couple of
questions:

* It says AX40 will use Active directory logon.  Should I
understand by that, that we won't be able to enter a different login to
have access to Axapta?  So we won't be able to login with 2 different
users on the same instance on the same machine?

* In the upgrade path it says that client CAN run on WinXP.  Why
do they specify WinXP since it already runs on XP.  Is Win2000 still
supported for AX40?

* Does AX40 require SQL Server 2005?  I know I won't be able to
use Reporting Services if I don't have SQL Server 2005.

* Earlier I was told that Ax40 included a Version Control
system.  But now I read that Ax40 will support Visual Source Safe.  So
will I need to buy MS Visual SourceSafe to have a version control
system?

If you can answer anyone of those, that would be of great help.

Regards,

Steeve...

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Ax 4.0 with SQL Reporting Services

2006-05-15 Thread Brandon George

Well if you went to Conv. This year this you could have gotten the Beta, which has all of this setup.

Anyway it's very well integrated, and as far as I can tell works great. Do you have any specific questions? Any issues you are running into?

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi everyone,

Can someone tell us about SQL Reporting Services integration in Ax
4.0?  How well is it integrated?  How is it to create a report that will
use SQL Reporting Services in Ax 4.0?  Any kind of info would be
appreciated.

I also have a client that we are currently implementing DAX 4.0 at. It's real exciting, with Version Control, SQL Server 2005, .Net Business Connector!

I figure though either I2, Tectura, or Columbus IT would get the headlines for having a client go live first.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] changing the value in the combobox thru code

2006-04-25 Thread Brandon George

Just like I sent earlier, I have a blog entry on my blog:
http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com/2006/03/replacing-default-lookup-form.ht
ml

That will take you through doing this. Basically it's not a combo box
you want to use, but rather a StringEdit. Then create a ExtDataType that
is derives from, set the lookup button to always, and then override the
lookup() method.

>From here you should be able to go through and use my post above to
create your own custom lookup form.

Thanks,

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Urgent: Working with lookups in a form

2006-04-25 Thread Brandon George

Also I have wrote and entry on my blog for creating custom lookup forms:
http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com/2006/03/replacing-default-lookup-form.ht
ml

Hopefully this will be of some help to you as well. If I ever need to
lookup anything, then I usually have to create my own custom lookup
form, because the default one's don't display all the correct
information that a user would like to use in order to lookup an item,
for example.

After reading through post your questions, and I or someone will try
their best to answer your questions.

Hai,

Regarding the Lookup, if u r using Extended data type then there is
no need to write a lookup(provide u don't need a customized lookup).If u
want to create a lookup form just see the InventLookup form  under the
Forms node in AOT.

regarding the filtration u can do this using the executeQuery
method(Override) .In that method write query like shown below

  Note:
set the auto declartion property to yes for the fieldname(form field)

  select Header_table
  where
  Header_table.fieldname == fieldname(form field).valuestr()

  Hi guys,

I've created a form. The form is linked to a Header_Table and a
Detail_Table. Now, i try to let the user select a field(which is the
primary key) from the Header_Table using a lookup in my form.

Based on the value of this primary key, i try to display the contents
of the Header_Table in the form's header section, and the contents of
the DetailTable in a grid.

I'm really stuck on 2 counts...
1) Creating and using lookups in Axapta.
2) Pulling data from SQL based on the value input by the user.

If i create lookups using the foreign key relationship in a table,
then the value selected from the lookup is not stored in the new
table upon closing the form. Also, once selected, the other related
fields dont refresh.

I'm new to Axapta, so my query may seem a bit silly... But, i'm
really stuck with this one :(

I would appreciate a little detailed solution... a bit of sample code
would be wonderful :)

Thanx in anticipation.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] User ID's switching to DAT on log off / Back on

2006-04-24 Thread Brandon George

I will try this... though all of our users are setup with 310 Already.
Also the Admin account is set for 310.

I will move the Admin user id back to the DAT company, and then from
there logon as the Admin account and change the users, from 310 to 310,
and then hit apply.

I assume this is what you mean. Anyway let me know.

Thanks,

Hi Brandon,

I have seen this.  It was a very strange set of circumstances that
caused it.

If I remember correctly, the problem lied in the differences between the
demo install having full access to all modules and forms, while the real
world instance did not.  Before things were locked down, a user was
experimenting and somehow managed create a custom menu in the demo
install and set it to start on this menu, then at some future point he
changed the startup company to Co. 100 (our main company) in Tools -
Options (while logged in as the users).

I suggest checking this users startup options.  Login as Admin, Open the
Administration module, select Users.  Highlight the user you want to
adjust settings and permissions for, then open the general tab.  Then
select the "User Options" tab on the right side of the form.  "Start
Menu" should be set to Main Menu and "Start Co Acct" should be 310.

Hope that helps.

What version of Ax are you on? Can you go to the Help > About MS Ax and
tell us exactly the version(s) of the Ax and other possible 3rd party
modules you have?

This will help us all in possibly identifying this issue.

Also if anyone has any remote idea what so ever please let me know?!

-Brandon

P.S. To give further information, we are running in 3 AOS cluster, and
the users access AX through terminal services, which is clustered (NTLB)
between two servers. I am not sure if this might play into it, but maybe
the Clustered AOS's???

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has any solid information on the Electronic
Banking module, and the use of it in the U.S.

>From my understanding of it, is that it was designed for European style
banking, and not U.S. Style. What is fueling this is sending 820 Files
to a bank for a client, and I wanted to know if that module could help
in anyway.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Strange 3-Tier Environment Message

2006-04-11 Thread Brandon George
Found the solution.

When looking at the configuration file, I came across this line:

bindir,Text,C:\mbs\axapta client\Bin\

In the one that's working the Above is set, and the one that is not
looks like:

bindir,Text,C:\mbs\axapta server\Bin\

So I found the solution. Also of note the file that it says was missing
is part of the \Bin\ folder and is used for launching the application,
along with other text files of it's type. I will post about this on my
blog:

http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Strange 3-Tier Environment Message

Hello All,

I have an urgent issue I am dealing with. I setup two new environments
for an AOS 3tier setup. I am getting the following message when I try to
launch one of the new environments:

"Microsoft Business Solutions-Axapta installation has no text file
(axsysen-us.ktd)"

I have not ran into this before, and here is the strange thing. I have a
3tier AOS environment, that I am working from that Works. I have even
copied over the Application files, and also the Database from the
working environment to the new one, and still this message pop-ups. Does
anyone have any clue as to what this message means?

Thanks so much in advance!

I have to say I have, and I got it at random. I could not reproduce this
error, so I could not ever pin point. Also it happen so rare that it was
not worth looking into at the time.

Are you getting it all the time, or at random?

RE: RE : [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Batch Processing

2006-03-28 Thread Brandon George
Yeah if you could get us that link I will post it on my blog so we will always
have it.

Of course in 4.0 the Batch Processing will be done as a Service anyway. Still
3.0 will be used by many for a few years to come I am sure. Would be nice to
know how to setup the Batch Processing as a service, rather than using an
Axapta Session.

I assume you can use .Net to create a windows service that connects to Axapta
through the Business connector, then from there can start running all batch
groups, etc. or Specified ones. Then this would be ran as a service, through
the Business connector executing the code.

Never done it before so I am not quite sure what the kb article said. I search
MSDN / KB off that article id you gave us and it came back with something not
related to AX at all.

Hi mbsdeveloper...

Yes you can! It is possible to run a batch client as a service, and
quite easy to set up: in the TK / KB 34610 article is described how
you to set this up! I already experienced with it and use it in my
company.

Kind regards,

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Extending Document Handling + Reflection

2006-03-27 Thread Brandon George
Hello All,

I completed last week a great little piece of work that I really
enjoyed working on. I had to extend the standard document handling for
an AX 3.0 SP3 installation.

Anyway I wrote all about it in this post:
http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com/2006/03/extending-document-handling.html

I was very impressed with AX's reflection abilities as it was the first
time I ever used the AppEntity class.

If you interested it's worth checking out.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Upload Thru Axapta Excel Templates

2006-03-23 Thread Brandon George
The thing I like about using X++ Code and ODBC through classes over the Custom
Import Def. is that you can do a lot as far as creating UOM, etc. and creating
secondary data, in other tables with the same based data given.

To me the X++ Classes and ODBC gives you much great flexibility than the Custom
Def files. But your right, custom Def files will perform about the same speed
as X++ Classes and ODBC Code.

We find that using the type "custom" option in Axapta instead of an excel
file for imports gives the same performance increase as described below with
the odbc class. Strangely enough, the Canadian zip code file (ascii 2.4mb)
is magnitudes larger than the US file (ascii 800k). I think Canada has a
zip code for every street...no kidding. Using the Axapta custom map also
eliminates spurious errors with formatting during the upload.

Our policy...never use excel for imports, use custom with a csv, and map the
fields.

I tell you the best way to upload data. Create Classes in X++ that use ODBC.
I always upload customer data into Axapta during implementations using X++
and ODBC.

To give you and example, we had a functional consultant take Zipcode data
and try and upload that into Axapta through the Excel import. It took 5
hours for Axapta to upload that data through Excel. I took the data when I
came on the project, and had to re-load the Zipcode data.

I delete it, and used my ODBC Classes that I have wrote in X++ and it took
less than 10 mins. 5 hours vs. less then 10mins?

If you want an example on how to do this you can search the site:

Hi,

Use CSV file to upload. It is faster than excel upload. Create the same
excel spreadsheet, but you may have to map later to create definition for
upload. We had uploaded 4 years balances for 3 companies, thats lot of
records but the load was much much faster. Another soultion is ATLAS/XL that
works well too but I haven't tested with heavy load, you may give a try.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Extended the Document Handling in Axapta

2006-03-21 Thread Brandon George
All,

I was wanting to know if anyone has ever extended the Document Handling
functions? I am not wanting to do to much, other than file name change,
and placement of folders.

I wanted to check with anyone that has changed and worked with document
handling in AX first though to see if there are any gotcha's, red
flag's, etc. that I need to look for.

Again it's pretty simple stuff what I am wanting to do, but just seeing.

Thanks,
Brandon

Time out there buddy. I don't care to know what ever little person
makes. I was wanting to add further content to my blog, in which I try
to HELP the AX community out.

I thought it would be HELPFUL to everyone to know what the going rates
are for the different types of AX related jobs in their respective
areas.

Sorry you took it that way, but I made it very clear my intent, and why
I wanted to do this. If someone is armed with the knowledge the AX
Consultants in the Southeast US range between 70k-115k then when they
are offered 60k, they can be armed. That's the point and purpose, to
help further the AX community.

There are a ton of web site out there than can give you such info, for a

But here is the best I will give you, I have made when starting out
$25.00

Hello,

There is one book that might help you get a high level full spectrum
view of
Axapta. It is a good starting point for technical consultants and client
IT
managers. You can get it on Amazon, but it is expensive. Remember, it is
high level so, do not expect it to make you an expert, but it will
provide a
framework from which to learn. You will revisit it from time to time,
because there are some practical tips.

Dynamics AX: A Guide to Microsoft Axapta, Louis Mourao & David Weiner

Good luck.

Hi Naushad,

Christoph wrote a well organized way to start learning Ax. Here are few
more
suggestion, if you would be able to arrange this;

1. You can use Microsoft e-learning courses. These are paid, can ask yr
company admin to arrange for the same.
2. There are four Developers guides(manuals) provided by Microsoft.
These
are really good. You can read it and then try to answer the questions at
the
end of each chapter.

You know, there is no such book for Ax, but practise is more important.

Wish You all the Best
Harsh

Well, Training Manuals which you have are sufficient. You need to have
practise on Inv/Purchase/Sales modules..

Please focus on the Exam Topics provided thru partner source website.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] ZipCodeLookup

2006-02-28 Thread Brandon George
We are on Ax 3.0 SP3.

If there is only one then it populates fine... but if 2 or more, then
for whatever reason it does not set the address information... Even
though I walked through the code and saw the Address map method actually
set the fields... it did not save for whatever reason...

I am not for sure why, and I was hoping someone else has ran into this
and fixed it.

Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon,

Which service pack are you running on? Have you made any modifications?

We use sp2 and the ZipCode lookup runs as I would expect. Australia has
multiple cities per postcode (zipcode). Basically we select the zipcode
(postcode), and then have to select the appropriate city if there are
multiple entries. I modified the city lookup to use the zipcode
(postcode) information entered. This then populates the other address
fields.

There is no code on the CloseSelect method.

If there is only one entry for the zipcode (postcode), the address
information is populated.

Barry.

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know the fix for the ZipCodeLookup form, where when there
are two or more Zip codes with the same zip, then the lookup code for
the following method:

public void closeSelect(str _selectString)
{
if (callerAddressMap)
{
callerAddressMap.AddressMap::initFromZipCode(zipCode);
}

super(_selectString);
}

For some reason does not set the City, States, etc. based on the ZipCode
table. This works when One zip code is ready for selection, but when
more than one, then the fields are not filled in. I have ran through
this, and the initFromZipCode() method on the Address Map.

I have looked at this, and not sure what the best way to fix this is.
Any advice would be most helpful.

Thanks,
Brandon

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] ZipCodeLookup

2006-02-28 Thread Brandon George
Well it would be as is:

12345 - Des Moines - County= SomePlace
12345 - Des Moines - County= SomePlace2

So in the U.S. ZipCodes span multiple Counties, etc. which would cause
12345 to exists twice. This messes up the Address Map, initFromZipCode
that sets this data based on selection made.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hello Brandon,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if there are 2 identical Zip Codes then
this
must be a data entry error, right ?

Normally, we would enter the zip code as DK-9530, DE-1234 or SE-56789,
so we
wouldn't get into a duplicate key situation.

Do you know of any countries that "allow" duplicate zip codes ?

I am very familiar with the Axapta install, just FYI for you there.
Thanks for the detailed input though. Turns out that the Index file got
corrupted during install, because of Axapta crashed during the help
system initialization.

Again thanks to everyone for their input.

Brandon,

It sounds like you are trying to install Axapta on a PC that already has
the Axapta Application on it, and the previous installation was not
completed properly. I would recommend uninstalling Axapta, but do NOT
uninstall it using the windows add/remove programs utility, because this
does not remove all of the registry entries. Note that uninstalling and
reinstalling will require you to recompile, which can take hours
depending on how robust your system is. Installing and uninstalling the
application in a production environment must be done correctly for the
system to function correctly, so an inexperienced person should not
install the Axapta application in a production environment. I am going
to assume you are installing this on a PC for training and not on a
server for production.

Put the Axapta CD in; if it doesn't launch automatically, click on
setup, then click Navision Axapta 3.0, individual install, run, after
you agree to the licensing info, it should give you the option to
repair, install, or remove. I would remove it, then reboot, then try to
reinstall. It should let you install without asking for the code.

After it is installed you have to follow the checklist from top to
bottom, which means after you compile the application you must put in
the license information before you do anything else. If the checklist
does not come up for some reason, it is accesses via - Administration -
Setup - System - Checklists - Installation Checklists.

Hope that helps,
Mike

2006-02-15 Thread Brandon George
Turns out, which is VERY strange, that I have to have the Physical
Inventory Checked and the Financial Un Checked. If setup any other way,
then No Vouchers get created.

What the strange part is, is that these are Non-Stock Items???!! Anyway,
I don't think these setting are correct but they work, and that is good
enough for this test for now.

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Preparing for MBS Axapta Programming Cert

2006-02-11 Thread Brandon George
Andrew,

I run a blog: http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com I post all kinds of
helpful code, and information on there. They can check that out...

I did not attend any boot camp, just been working in it for a while, and
studied the Dev Best Practices handbook and developers guide. I also had
a company made self study guide.

All in all it's straight forward, so if they have been using X++ and
Axapta for at least 6 months then they should do fine.

Brandon,

Congrats on passing your test. I have two developers on staff that I'll
like to get certified in Axapta. They have about 10 years experience
each,
mostly in RPG and Jobscope; one is familiar with java, the other is
familiar
with VB; both are familiar with MSSQL.

They have been programming in Axapta for several months, but are mostly
self-taught.

I'm thinking of sending them to a boot camp...did you attend a
boot-camp?
If not, can you give any tips on what I should do to help them prepare?
All
ideas are welcome.

Hi Sherin,

I used the 2nd shot last year with Prometric. I could not register on
line.
I had to call them

and argue that the 2nd shot applied to the MBS exams. (Had to get a
supervisor on the phone) and

when I went back to take it again, I had to call and argue again to get
them
to schedule the 2nd exam.

P.S. I passed the exam on the third try.

Has anyone appeared for the 2nd shot promotion exam?

When our team went to register they asked us to go online and get a
registration code(inorder to be for this 2nd shot promotion)
Unfortunately
that center doesn't have the right link and moreover any 2nd shot link
we go
to just gives us details for mcp exam...

can anyone help?

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Capital Projects

2006-02-06 Thread Brandon George
Hello everyone,

I have a client that currently uses the concept of 'Capital Projects'
before an Asset moves into a Fixed Asset type of role. These capital
projects are used to track the asset, and then when the asset goes into
use, then it is moved from a Capital project to a fixed asset.

I know that Axapta has the projects module, I wanted to see if anyone
else has ran into this before, and what would you recommend to replicate
this sort of behavior. It is a requirement of the client to continue
this type of project to asset management.

If need be I can modify the project module in Axapta to contain and use
Capital projects to Fixed Assets. I did however wanted to see if this
was already done, and if so how, by whom, etc.

Thanks,
Brandon

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] SalesFormLetter.CheckSales()

2006-01-19 Thread Brandon George
I guess I should have explained further about what is going on. They wanted
credit checks, but changed their minds, BUT - wanted this fixed later, and
NOT change the customers from credit checking... strange anyway you look at
it.

Well I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen this slow down, and had
any exposure to the slow down.

thanks,

Hi Brandon

You commented out the code that executes credit limit checking.

The fact that you say this code was slow, could indicate that your
settings regarding creditlimit was set up, so you would actually use
credit limit checking. If that is the case, then your change has removed
that functionality.

If credit limit check is set to none, the method would not perform the
time consuming part of the check anyway, and it should not slow down
performance.

The code in SP4 and SP3 that I have access to looks identical.

We commented this code block out, because of what it was preforming. I

RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Currency Issue

2006-01-09 Thread Brandon George

Well I tried setting the round off to 0.05 and now I get
the following error messages:

Warning Posting The transactions on voucher
'SI00017978' do not balance as per '1/5/2006'. (Company currency: -11.00 -
secondary currency: 0.00)Error Posting Error in unit of amount in
currency 'USD'. Must be rounded to '0.05'.Warning Posting Unit of
654.23 654.25 being posted to account '30050' is too
little.
I have seen something similar to this before, and it ended
up being a real number having some strange 0.2013 value, which was causing this
issue. It seems the amount we are losing for the Ledger Account maybe throwing
me off? If it is telling me the the problem exists in 30050? Any advice would be
great for this.

thanks,
Brandon

Hello

I hope everyone is doing great. I wanted to review an issue that is

deals with USD currency. But the company does have Canadian Customers who they
want to bill in CAD Dollars. When they try and do this, the following is what
takes place:

The
transactions on voucher 'SI00017936' do not balance as per '1/5/2006'. (Company

I am sure someone has seen this

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Database Options

2005-12-22 Thread Brandon George

Hello Everyone!

First I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
I hope that everyone is happy and joyful, and just keeps with them why we call
it Christ-mas.

Now I do have a question, or should I say I have something
to show everyone, and then I am wondering if everyone could give me there
feedback. I am attaching a screen shot of our current Database Options for our
Live AX Database:

I was wondering if AX pro's whom have had a lot of
experience with fine tuning from the database side could take a look at these
options and tell me if there is anything that could help me optimize the
database from this point of view.

thanks,
Brandon

You can also try out: http://dynamics-ax.blogspot.com

Axapta is the old name of what is now called Dynamics AX.
>From the above blog there is a link at the very top that takes you to a
wikipedia entry about what Dynamics AX exactly is. Great post really! Also you
can find great resources about Axapta, now Dynamics AX.

Of course http://axapta-knowledge-village.blogspot.com
has been around a lot longer, and is still a great resource. I believe the
above, though, can help you out as well.

[Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Load balancing the AOS

Hi Brandon

Well, I guess you'd look at the
following...

1. Is my AOS processor bound and not able to take
additional processors?
2. Is my AOS memory bound and not able to take additional
memory?
3. Is my AOS network bound and not able to take another
network card?
4. Is my AOS disk bound (unlikely on an AOS) and disk
performance not able to be improved?

If the answer to any of the above is "yes" and your AOS
machine is not providing ant other service that could be relocated to another
server then you need to ask.

Is it more cost effective to add a new AOS (and cluster the
two) or replace my existing AOS with a better specified machine that will not
suffer the same resource deficiency? Note that, if your server is not
memory bound but your Ax32Serv process has hit its 2GB memory limit then you are
effectively memory bound. If your server has more than 4Gb RAM (i.e. enough for
2 x 2Gb plus sufficient for the operating system to continue to function) and
the processor capacity to handle the extra load then you could consider adding
an extra AOS instance on the same machine and clustering the two
instances.

You might also consider that adding a newer AOS might
result in a slightly imbalanced cluster. AFAIK The AOS load balancing picks the
AOS with the least number of users on it. So, if you have two machines and
one is newer (and therefore likely to be higher specified) its possible that
users one the newer AOS will receive a better user experience than those on the
older machine. Its not a particularly big problem but might complicate things
for you as your needs expand again and the performance starts to dip for some
users but not others (i.e. "why the hell is user A complaining when user B is
not and why the hell did user B complain yesterday when user A did
not").

Good luck

Yes I did commit out the credit check long ago, because it
was taking forever on some orders.

I am also very familiar with Clustered Indexes, I just not
to sure how to actually create one through the AOT and Axapta.

Thanks!

Hi,

Have a look at http://www.sql-server-performance.com/gv_clustered_indexes.asp

As you can see,
clustered indexes are an absolute necessity (unless maybe for tables with LOTS
of update statements and few inserts/deletes).

I also assume you are
not doing credit limit checking as part of the posting of a sales order
because this is known to be slow.

Hi
Brandon,

We also had major
performance problems on our Axapta v3sp2 installation.  Our biggest problem
area was Sales Ledger / Account Receivable.  We definitely found that
adding clustered indexes to a number of the most heavily used tables improved
performance by quite a lot.

Troubleshooting Axapta
performance unfortunately is quite a tedious process and you will have to
identify the key processes that are slow and need to be improved.  While
troubleshooting a process a few weeks ago, I found the Code Profiler to be quite
valuable since you can see exactly
where the problem lies and then either make a code or an index change.  I
found the SQL Index tuning wizard to be not that valuable since it does not
pinpoint the exact problem in the way that the code profiler
does.

Good
luck,
Hennie

SQL related performance items are doing just about the same. The page life
expectancy counter tells you, on average, how long data pages are staying in the
buffer. The higher the number the better. Dropping number here means more memory
is having to be used, and accessed more frequently.

Anyway I am puzzled,
and I am trying to find out the best way to address this, as the memory in our
SQL server is more than enough. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions,
as my eye's are getting tired from looking at the same data and not coming up
with anything new

thanks in
