written above her name)?

She is the daughter of Manoel de Conde Sodre of the Parish of Luz and of 
Maria de Bettencourt  of the Ilha da Suppne??? (Wrong, I know) and fregusia 
da Guill?? (Guadalupe?)

I cannot make this out.

Manoel Pays, 70 years of age, widower of Dona Francisca, died on August 24, 
1698.

I need help with the portion from about midway through the record to the 
end.

I can see mention of S. Matheus of Praia.  

Is this document saying that he services were held in Praia?  Or am 
misunderstanding (which, more than likely; I am).

ANY information, etc. greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to get back tin the swing of things after surgery and beginning 
dialysis in November.

Antonio Correa/Corria de Mencdonca and Annado Resseracao Ortins (left side)?

I can read the date and parents names, etc.

I need help with the portion after Anna's mother's name (Maria Glz Maia). 
 I can see "todas fregusia desta >>>>>>>>>>"  

Any help appreciated.

I have been "offline" for a bit due to medical issues and have to relearn 
how to read the records again; for the most part I can; but a couple things 
are still fuzzy.

Violante Ribiera (bottom of page?

I almost missed this record (passed it at least four times).

All that I can make out is the the following:

Bartolomeu Rodavalho filho de Baltazar ?? and Agueda? 
and 
Violante Ribeira filha de Manoel Alvarez/Alcares?  and Maria ??

I can't even see a date, although I know that the year is 1676 from the 
index.

Jose Domingos da Rocha married Maria Joaquina in 1769 in Sao Mateus, 
Terciera.

I know from a note at the bottom of the record (right side bottom) that the 
two are related.  I am having trouble reading the degree of consanguinity 
though.

Is it the 3rd degree?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Marriage dispensation for G. daughter of Francisco Lopes da Fonseca (Maria Santa Teresa)

As most of our group knows, Joao Ventura (archivist) has been working on the 
marriage dispensations for the Azores.  Joao has asked that I pass on this 
dispensation to all interested and I thought this is the best way to do it.


In 1727  a marriage dispensation in the 4th degree of consanguinity was granted 
to Barbara da Conceicao b. Candelaria, Pico, she Died before 1756   and Antonio 
de Sousa b. Candelaria, Pico and they were married 10 Dec. 1727 in Candelaria, 
Pico . 

-Barbara da Conceicao was the daughter of Maria de Santa Teresa, b. Lajes, Pico.

-Maria de Santa Teresa was the daughter of Francisco Lopes da Fonseca b. 1638 d 
21 May 1718 in Sao Mateus, Pico and Apolonia das Candeias b. 1658, d. 16 Feb. 
1718 in Sao mateus, Pico.

In the record after their names I can see the following:

My question, is this stating that they are from/living on Sao Jorge?

With your encouragement, I found Josefas baptismal record.  The surprise?  She 
was 37 when she had Maria in 1810.

Her parents were Jose Simoes da Rocha (sometimes da Rocha Simoes) and Maria 
Joaquina.

Earlier I posted a question about the birth of Maria, daughter of Maria do 
Carmo and husband Antonio da Rocha Tristtao about the padrinhos.

Now I have a real mystery/puzzle/family secret on my hands?

I am researching the family of Maria do Carmo and Antonio da Rocha Tristao; 
below are sources/causes of my confusion (mystery/puzzle).

First, the marriage of Maria and Antonio

you can see that Maria's parents are given as Josefa Joquina and pai nao 
sabido (unknown father).  And Antonio's parents are given as Francisco da 
Rocha Tristao and Marianna Jacinta.

I figured out that the Tios materna meant "maternal uncles/aunt"; but does 
it mean Manoel Jose Coelho or Josefa Joquina?  (Remmber, Maria do Carmo's 
mother was a Josefa Joaquina per her marriage above.


And, third, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Manoel Jose Coelho

Her parents are not listed, but she is the widow of one Joaquin Jose Brasil 
who died in/is buried is Sao Pedro.


Last, the marriage of Josefa Joaquina and Joaquin Jose Brasil in Sao Pedro

Her parents are listed as *Francisco da Rocha Tristao and Marianna Jacina*, 
who are the parents of Antonio da Rocha Tristato (first marriage record 
above) who married Maria do Carmo, daughter of a Josefa Joaquina, who is 
listed has her mother in the same record above (1st one).


My conundrum, did Maria do Carmo marry her uncle


I can tell you, this one is driving me a little by crazy.  It's keeps going 
in circles and circlesI think Josefa Joaquina and the family were 
trying to hide something (or someone).


Any suggestions/comments/ideas appreciated.

Jesus

This is a difficult one for me to read, light ink.

The date looks like the 20th of June ?? 1832

Jose Alexandre Homem son of Manoel Homem and Josefa Antonia - defuntos 
(Manoel also known as Manoel Homem Martins per his grandsons marriage 
record in 1861)

Marianna daughter of Joaquim Jose Soares and Maria Ignacia

Can anyone read the full date?  

I have searched the marriage index for Fontinas and none of the parnts 
listed above were married in Fontinas.  I believe they were from another 
parish; but can't read which on in the record (if its in the record at all).

I was able finally confirm that it was him...and after going through the 
baptismal records for a FIFTH time (my eyes are BAD)...I found him.

His parents were Jose Alelandre Homem aned Maria Candida of Fontinhas.

Francisco Alexander Homem of Fontinhas, Terceira.  

Per his widows (Ana Emilia Patricina/o Homem) naturalization record he was 
born June 5, 1881 in Fontinhas.  Think I may have found him; but can't 
prove it.

I know (also per Ana's record referenced above) they were married August

time Maria and Francsico.  He left behind his mother C. Homem.

in 1929 they are again found returning from Terceira with three chidren, 
Maria, Francisco and Evelyn.  Francisco names his mother as maria C. Homem 
of Fontinhas and a brother Joao A. Homem also of Fontinhas.  

In 1930, they are found living in Downey, Los Angeles, CA

56) Carvalha? (on image 57)  Top of image 57 if water damaged and difficult 
to read (for me, at least).

My cousin is a descendant of Sebatiso Gonsalves Borges and Roza Maria through 
their daughter Maria a Nazarette who married Agistingho Coelho de Mello in 1818 
in Alyares.

When I went to search for their marriage all I can find is the one for this 
couple which is confusing (his name being sodifferent).  Is this the same man?  
I don't know, but do note thee is a Maria da Nazarette I his family (his mother 
I think) so it may be them.  Still working to figure this one out.

Sine zbill Seidler told me about the index this morning I've been finding all 
kinds of family for my cousin.

The search continues.

One of my cousins, cousins (if that make sense) is Azorean on both sides - 
his father's side are from Terceira (Mellos and Homem')  So, an entirely 
new island to research.  And thanks fro the info on the index, was not 
aware of it at all.

Can someone take a look a the record below and see if I'm reading it 
correctly?

Right page

Antonio Coelho de Mello married to Beatriz dos Anjos - 1758 (page damaged, 
cannot read day/month - at least, I can't)

Antonio was the son of Joao Coelho and ?  cannot make our her name at 
all

Beatriz was the daughter of Manoel Coe??/Cor??? and again cannot make out 
her name.

Also, I'm curious as so why Antonio's name is not underlined (like others) 
but the words before his name are.

Their sons (another Agostinho Coelho de Mello) has her farther's name as 
Narciso Ferreira.

My question - am I reading the Delfina's father name corectly as Narcisco 
Ferreira Lourenco??

I am researching the family of another cousin.  All I have is the below:

Frank C. Mello (Francisco, of course) born ca 1903 in Terciera (according 
to grandson) living in Orange County, CA in 1940 and was naturalized.

His wife was Mary A. Homem bonr ca 1911 in Massachusetts.

Also living with them was her mother Anna Homem, born ca 1890.

I have been unable to find very much at all on them at either Ancestry or 
Familysearch.com

Was curious as to whether anyone my might recognize any of them?

I have been trying to resolve the "mystery" of my cousin's ancestresses 
maternal ancestry and may have finally found found something to help find 
the family.

Dona Maria do Sacramento born about 1729 in Sao Mateus per her marriage 
record to Antonio Lobam Botelho on October 30, 1752 in Luz was the daughter 
of Joao de Conde and Dona Maria ??? - there is no "second" name given for 
her mother - I've looked at the record several times to makes rue my eyes 
are not playing tricks on me to no avail, it's simply not there.

Late last night I started going through the Sao Matues baptism's and came 
across the following record for Manoel:

Manoel filho of Joao de Conde da Sylva and Dona Maria (no second name given 
whatsoever), born December ?? 1729.
Padrinhos given as Felipa filha of the family of Manuel Vaz Correa and 
Lianer Vaz.

Am I reading this correctly - mother only given as Dona Maria?  If so, I 
think this is them, at least now I know more information on the father - da 
Sylva - no just simply de Conde, that may help as well.

I think there a reason (of some sort) why there is no second name - a 
mystery/challenge.

I am in the process of double-checking some of my research and want to make 
surer I'm reading the attached marriage of Joze Rapozo and Quiteria Maria 
correctly:

Left page

I read March 23, 1807 for the date.

Jose Rapozo is the son of Antonio Martins (defunto) and Joanna Rapoza? (not 
really sure of her surname)

Quiteria Maria is the daughter of Luiz Pereira (defunto) and Thereza Maria

It looks like it says they're all from Ginetes (although my records state 
Joze is from Mosteiros and her family is from Fenais da Luz)

My cousin is a descendant of Roza Maria who married Mathias da Cosrta 
Maiato  (son of Mathias da Costa Maiato and Guiomar de Souza Cabral) on 
Mary 29, 1766, RdP.

According to the marriage record (link below) she was the daughter of 
Violante de Faria and Manoel da Costa (both deceased) natives of RdP.

to Legacy Deluxe.

I finally found the birth record of Barbara do Sacramento, wife of 
Francisco Gomez Xapado and now I have another mystery/conundrum:

I see Barbara filha de Vicente de Souza (natural of Bretanha - new info) 
and Antonia Tavares (natural of Bom Jesus, Rabo de Peixe).
Born 19th of September 1731 (I question the year because the others on the 
page are clearly 1741 (but hers clearly says trinta e hum - 1731)  I think 
someone had too much wine celebrating.
She is the first child I've found for them so far.  Also, at the time of 
Barbara's marriage in 1770 (Immage 104, RS - Rabo de Peixe) her father was 
absent at the time - off on a whaling ship??  Who knows; first time I've 
had a record with the father being absent - know it happened quite a lot 
though.

I'm wondering if anyone has this family in their database, etc.

My mystery problem is that I cannot find a marriage record for Vicente and 
Antonia in Rabo de Peixe.  I also tried looking in Bretanha; thinking maybe 
she was living there at the time; but no such luck.

Any/all help appreciated.

Francisco Gomez Xapado and Francisca Tavares (which the help of his 
brother's baptismal record - which gave me a hint of where to look - 
Francisca was a native of Lagoa).

and Roza Tavares??

If someone can clarify the date for me and confirm that I have the parents 
correct; it would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to just barely see on line 8 from the bottom the name Gomes/z 
Xapado (which I now believe was a family name - at least 3 generations used 
the name that I've been able to find so far.)

I can't even read the date, etc.  I believe this may be the 1st marriage of 
my Francis Gomez or it could be a 2nd marriage of his father; but I can 
tell.,

Anna is a daughter of Manoel Pires C??? and Beatriz Glz.  (her sister,

Looks the date of the marriage was May 4, 1681?

Can anyone decipher the full name of Anna's father?  And correct me on what 
her (Anna's/Agada/Beatriz) surname is?  Gonsalvez/Goncalvez - I get 
confused with the name.

I believe these may be the grandparents or great grandparents of my 
Francisco Gomez Xapado.

Your idea to do more research worked/helped.  I just found the death record of 
Francisca Tavres, mother of Francisco Gomez Xapado.  Per her obits, her husband 
FULL name was Francisco Gomez XAPADO.  Both men carried the same name.  I will 
keep s more didcerning look out for that name in the future.

This the baptism of Leocadio? Manoel filho of Francisco Gomez Xapado and 
Barbara do Sacramento (left page, bottom record).

Born March 2, 1772.

I would like some confirmation that I have read the first name correctly as 
Leocadio.

I remember too that was  discussion about it being rare for children to be 
baptized with two name - I'll say this, Rabo de Peixe is the exception - 
they're all over the place with double names at baptism.  Over a span of 
3-4 pages there were at least 3-4 with double names.

PS - Also saw a father with the surname of de Armada (I looked at it 
several times thinking it had to be Arruda; but no; it was Armada).

I'm a bit confused with the child's name.  There are several Jeronimo's in 
this family line and that may be what this is; but I'm not too sure of that.

It kinds of looks like H?alyeromino?   I can't tell if the first letter is 
a J, S or a fancy M?? 

Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated.

Am, I reading Manoel's mothers name correctly as Ferreira?

I'm stumped on this.one of the children's baptisms states he was from 
Adjuda; now I'm not so sure of that.

de Joiar? (same as mothers names above??) of this parish?

Requesting help witht the mrriage of Manoel de Conde Pais/Paes and Isabel 
d'Eiro - top left record.
 
I know the date of marriage is January 2, 1706 and that Manoel is the son 
of Manoel de Conde Pais/Paes and Maria Gonsalves
Isabel is the daughter of Manoel Dornellas and Catherine Novais.
 
I can see that Isabel is a native of the parish where the marriage took 
place.
 
My quetion is with Manoel and his parents..I can see diretly after 
their names a word that looks like p?? desta fregusia -  Am I reading 
it correctly that they are form his parish as well?

The date is October 30, 1700 from what I can make out.
 
Corola is the daughter of Manoel Gonsalves de Grinde and Isabel Correa of 
this parish (or am I readig that incorrectly??)
 
It looks liek Manoel is a widow of L Fialha? and is for Luz?

Married in November 1666

I can only read the name of Manoe's father which is Francisco Roiz Leite.

The rest I'm at a complete loss at the what it says; too faded for me to 
make it out.

of Sebastiao de Ponte Leite and Antonia Monis/z?

It looks like the date is 27 November 1728?? (I few pages later the date is 
written as 1727 at top of the page - pages out of order, I wonder??)

Sebastio is the son of Manoe Ledo?? Leite and Sebastianna da Costa
Antonia is the daughter of Manoel George?? da Silva and Agada Monis/Moniz

All of this parish.

Can someone help with the marriage below please?  

Sebastiao de Oliveira and Gertudes da Asumpcao - Right Side.

I can clearly see the parents (Manoel de Oliveira Pimentel/Theredsa de 
Jesus for Sebatiao and Miguel de Sousa Sidadam(ao) and Maria de Paiva for 
Gertudes).

The marriage occurred June 4, 1759.

I see after Sebastiao's name mention of Ajuda (Adjuda da Bretanha?) and 
baptizado (met his obligation?) and after Gertudes of this parish? Also 
baptizada (met her obligation??)

I have two Gertrudes' as daughters of Miguel de Sousa Sidadao and Maria de 
Paiva of Rabo de Peixe both married to a Sebastiao Oliveira - One is listed 
as Gertrudes Sousa Rocha wife of Sebastiao (married 6.4.1749 *have not 
found a marriage with this date to-date; think someone may have made a 
mistake when translating and should be 1759?  if so why differences in 
mothers name of Sebastio??*) who was the son of Manoel Oliveira Pimentel 
and Teresa de Teves AND the other listed as Gertrudes da Asumpcao wife of 
Sebastio (married 6.4.1759) who is the son of Manoel de Oliveira Pimentel 
and Theresa de Jesus!  

Both of the above couples were from Rabo de Peixe.  The marriage of second 
couple was translated by Rick (thanks again).

I'm trying to figure out if the above are two distinct couples or one with 
various names and a daughter who used interchangeable names as well.  

I'm getting very confused with this one.

ANY help, etc. greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

I found the marriage re it'd of Manoel Pachequo (Pacheco) and Maria de Paiva in 
Matriz da Estrela

Unfortunately I'm having to use my IPad for research, desktop is in the shop 
for upgrading, etc.  I haven't figured out yet how to post the links when

Below is what I CAN tell you- it is 

Casamentos Matriz fa Estrela, 1676-1697, Item # 9, right side bottom.

Manoel Pachequo son of Francisco Machado and  - cannot read that name.
And
Maria de Paiva daughter of Manoel de Paivo and Maria d - cannot read this 
name either.

Marriage occurred ?? 30th, 1677

I am having trouble reading the parents names in this one. 
 
I read that his father is Antonio * *and mother is Maria Cabral, 
defuntos
and her parents are Joam Ledo and Maria de *?? ???*
 
Also could someone possibly decipher the margin notes?  There are a lot of 
them on this one; I can see several dates; but can't make out the rest.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Manoel Rebello Aranha and Maria Francisca of Matriz da Estrela, Ribeira Grande, SM

I am having trouble finding the marriage record of the referenced couple in 
Matriz da Estrela. 

They were the parents of three known (so far) children:

Jacinta Rosa who married Manoel Jose Cabral de Mello November 30, 1777 - 
parents listed as Manoel Rebello Aranha (nickname meaning Spider)

I have gone through the marriage records of Matriz da Estrela at least 3 
times and can only find marriage records of two Manoel Rebello's as follows:

Manoel Rebello Ambar? married to Mari da/de Pel??? May 6, 1745 (he was the 
son of Antonio Texiera Ambar? and Maria Rebella of Sao Pedro and she was 
daughter of Manoel da Silva and Marai Martins (link below) Right side

Manoel Rebello Pra? (Pereira) married to Maria Francisca Jund 1747 (he was 
the son of Joam Rebellow and Clara and she was the daughter of Antonoi de 
Souza and Maria Francisca  (link below - left side)

The main probably I'm having with the marriage records is that neither 
mentioned the alcunha of Aranha; so I have no way of telling which is which.

Going to look for more birth records this evening; maybe that will help.

Has anyone come across this couple in their research?

Any suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

This is the marriage record of Antonio do Rego and Maria Catharina - left 
side page

I need a little help with the parents names.  Mostly confirmation that I 
have it correct.

Married August 4, 1737

He was the Lt?? Antonio do Rego and Maria Luis do Nascimntos??
She was the daughter of Vicente/Nicolao?? da Costa and Maria do Sam Miguel 
(or is that de Sam Miquel?)
