Thank you all so much!  I would have never gotten her name.  I looked for
hints with other E's but could never come up with it.  It is just not one I
have ever seen!  It is a mouthful!  I really appreciate it!

Hi Rene

I see the same as Linda and Pat have stated and just want to add that the 
groom was baptized in Achadinha and his mother's name (in the margin as 
Linda stated) is Barbara da Encarnação.  The bride appears to be natural of 
Matriz de São George (Jorge) which I believe is Nordeste.

Hi Rene,

I see:

groom = Antonio de Pimintel

groom's father = Jose de Arruda
groom's mother = it looks to me like the priest made an insertion to the 
text in the margin (see the "+" signs); ? "da Encarnacao, ja defuntos"

bride = Echolastica de Medeiros

bride's father = Antonio de Medeiros, ja defunto 
bride's mother = Jacinta Oliveira

yikes, that was hard going!  I skimmed the baptismal locations because I'm 
not familiar with the Island, but there may be more info to be gleaned from 
them.

I've looked at both records and agree with you.  It looks like Manuel Jorge and 
Domingos Gonçalves both have Simam? Gonçalves and Beatriz Gonçalves listed as 
parents; Maria Machado and Ines Gonçalves both have Salvador Lucas (Luques) (da 
Guiar) and Ana Gonçalves listed as parents.  So just as their names suggest (ha 
ha) Manuel Jorge and Domingos Gonçalves are brothers while their wives Maria 
Machado and Ignes Gonçalves are sisters.

Very difficult record; I hope I'm right.

FYI I have Domingos’ brother(Manuel Jorge) marrying Maria Machado who’s parents

Lillian, I don't know where "here" is, as I can't see what you are thinking
in your head. You provided a link to baptisms on Sao Miguel island, not the
finding aids of Sao Jorge island.

I can't screen shot it, as the drop down menus don't stay "stuck."

Go to the Azores GenWeb here: http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/

At the top, point (hover) over Maps, Databases, Indexes (circled). A drop
down will appear with the islands listed alphabetically. Point (hover) over
Sao Jorge island and you will see what finding aids have been contributed
to the Azores GenWeb.

http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/,  and download the map for Sao Jorge.
Just looking at your info I would say to start to look in Santa Barbara da
Manadas, Councelho of Velas. You need to get familiar with the villages and
church names.

 research, I have a few marriages that are missing. But you can piece them
 together despite the missing marriage date, and even pinpoint the marriage
 date to within two years based on baptism information. So of course, go

 married in another village, but the marriage of Beatriz Coelho does state
 she was baptised in Sao Roque, Alltares.

Linda, may I ask where are you getting this information from?

I have been following this post to some extent. In my village of research, 
I have a few marriages that are missing. But you can piece them together 
despite the missing marriage date, and even pinpoint the marriage date to 
within two years based on baptism information. So of course, go looking for 
Antonio's baptism and his siblings. It is still possible they married in 
another village, but the marriage of Beatriz Coelho does state she was 
baptised in Sao Roque, Alltares.

For my money, Antonio Coelho de Ornelas, is the son of Joao Gonsalves de 
Ornellas and Maria Coelho, married in Altares, Oct 19- 1681. Just a guess.

also able to resolve the mystery of the 2 Antonio Vieira Lourenco with wives 
Maria da Espirito Santo. One was the Great Grandson of the other. 
Antonio Vieira Lourenco and Maria da Espirito Santo (Generation 1) has son 
named Jose Vieira Lourenco who married Catarina Bernarda de Jesus (Generations

I did scan the Rabo de Peixe records beginning in 1706 to look for children 
and found their daughter Francisca in 1708 in RP (right middle).  I stopped 
looking after I found her and will look for more children tomorrow.

I found in Rabo de Peixe a second Manuel Pereira Bicho cc Maria da Costa, 
Feb 4- 1692; He is filho de Francisco Pereira and Isabel Vieira nats de 
Fenais de Luz; She is filha de Pai Nao Sabido and Vitoria Furtado nat de 
Rabo de Peixe.

I think it is reasonable to assume this Manuel Pereira Bicho is in the same 
family and most likely is the brother of your Antonio Pereira Bicho. This 
makes Francisco Pereira and Isabel Vieira the parents of said Antonio 
Pereira. If you really want to firm it up more, look for some children, and 
that should help solidify the relationships.

Amy, you have the correct obit record for it states her husband's full name.

You will find as you continue searches that the obits' records give
approximate ages.  Watch for the words (more or less).

Thanks!  I found Antonio Pereira's death entry in 1738 -

States he was 50 years old, so born around 1688.

I looked for his baptism but could not find it, fenais da luz seems to be 
missing the dates I need.  I think it jumped from 1686 to 1693?

Try Capelas or Ribeira Grande. Ana de Benevides is from Calhetas which was 
then part of the freguesia of Rabo de Peixe. And I notice the godparents 
are from Pico de Pedra, which is a very small village just north of, and in 
between Rabo de Peixe and Calhetas.

His name is Bixo, which is indeed Bicho from Fenais da Luz.

If you can't find marriage, I think you should look for the baptism of the 
parents. There are not that many Pereira's or Benevides that would make 
this search that difficult. They married just before 1715, so look about 25 
years before this date and go forward. Then back from this date if not 
found.

So as I read it, Francisco da Rocha Tristao was baptised in Sao Pedro

name. I am guessing the stamp represents a fee paid to register the 
marriage. Most people could not afford to pay the fee. It is dated Sept 11 
- 1889.

I don't think you missed anything, it's just a difficult record. I do know 
that Isabel is Isabel Lopes, but certainly not from reading that record! I 
believe all these Fragosos appear to be related. But proving it is another 
matter. I think Manuel and Margaret have Fragoso ancestors. The majority 
appear to be in Lagoa.

I haven't been following this thread closely, however I saw the question
about waiting 5 years to marry.

I had a couple that had kids for 4 or 5 years before getting married. They
were 1st cousins and it took that long for the dispensation to go through.
I don't know if that's the case with your couple or not.

Are you sure the father's name has Seixas? I don't see that in the marriage 
record. The questionable name on the other side is Freytas (Freitas). Best 
advice is to look around the neighbouring parishes, like Sao Pedro or Sao 
Jose. You might even find them in Lagoa.

Like Lee, I am very curious about those people named after the groom's 
deceased parents.  The first, Manuel Andrade, seems to be the priest, then 
it looks like Jose de Medeiros da Camera, ??? Jose Martins, Martinho Rapozo 
and Joseph Rapozo.  I haven't seen this done before.

My first thought is that one or more was standing in for the deceased 
parents because perhaps the groom had not reached majority age (I don't 
know if he had or not).  But if this is the case, why so many people?

It looks like it says "em presence de mim", followed by the priest's name 
(as Bill pointed out), so I would assume that rest of the names are of 
witnesses to the marriage.  Usually, it would say "testamunhos", but I 
don't see that.  On the other hand, I loose the thread of it entirely where 
the ink fades, so FWIW, that's my best theory.

Some of my cousin's are Pavao's-- will let them know about their famous 
connection :)  Thanks!

Bill, You're correct, Manuel Andrade is the priest (Vigaro); In the 
narrative he is merely stating that those named individuals were signing 
(signo) below, along with him. He may actually have signed *for* them. As 
for padrinhos, I don't see anyone specifically listed as such, but, these 
individuals were, at least, acting as witnesses to the ceremony.

Hi Lee,

I read the date as you do, 23 March 1807,

It says Jose Rapozo was baptized at Nossa Senhora da Conceicao in 
Mosteiros.  I see his father as you do, Antonio Martins; but I see his 
mother as Joanna dos Reis.  Quiteria Maria was baptized in Ginetes.  I see 
her parents as you do, Luiz Pereira and Thereza Maria. 

I don't believe it says where the parents are from.

Have you tried Conceicao or Ribeira Seca or Ribeirinha? They are all 
nearby. It seems to me they should be married circa 1809, just before the 
first the born, and occasionally, shortly after the first born.

Are you sure about the Maria baptism of 1834? That's 28 years after her 
marriage and would make her 50 years old. Possible but unlikely.

Manuel married a distant cousin (4th wife?) and I was doing research on them 
and came accros the attached.

 The record I'm looking at (link above) is at the top of the right-hand

 curious because when I look at records for the children of this couple who 
 were married in 1815...I have seen the mother written as Anna Rosa.  I keep 
 digging, in case I have identified the wrong child/children. 




 I don't mind saying.there are way too many generations of Joao 
 Pereira das Neves.  I am having a heck of a time keeping *them* 
 straightlet 
 alone their wives and children!  :-)
