I don't know what you are trying to accomplish here. I haven't used dos since 1998. When JAWS version 3 was issued, it was possible to use windows 95 and the Microsoft office programs. The 486 machine you mention has been out of date for ten years. All of this technology has been significantly updated, and is much easier to use. Software I'm interested in learning what types of the following software you use. Please include version along with name and whether or not it is considered adaptive tech as some of these might be a bit obscure. If you find that the software is not fully accessible, please let me know. OCR (for scanning printed documents): Please include the brand and model of scanner used. Wordprocessor or text editor: Calculator: Compact flash card reader: Please post it's file size limit if applicable and it's general speed if possible. I've heard that EDRD has a program that can serve as a multitasker in machines with a processor higher than a 486 and as a task switcher in machines with slower speeds. But how accessible is it with a screenreader? Is one reader better than another for this purpose? I'd like to know the same thing about it's memory manager. I have a program for reading pdfs but haven't tried it yet. Has anyone had success with a DOS pdf reader? Which is currently more accesible, EDRD or FreeDOS? Is there a large difference between the 16 and 32-bit versions of DOS? For those who use the MicroSoft variety, what software do you use to allow it to deal with modern formats? The only thing that restores IE 8 to normal is rebooting. So my question is this: Is there any way to restore IE to the pristine condition it is in after my PC is booted without actually having to reboot every time I experience sluggish web page loading? I am aware that some post-secondary schools have taken the position that PDF instructional materials will not be allowed because of concerns about issues of accessibility. Once the document is converted, hit the ALT key. You will hear a list of options, one of which is save as text. Try this: If you go into the existing folder, bring up the file menu. There should be a selection called new; hit enter and one of the next list of choices should include folder. Hit enter; then I think there will be a selection new folder. Type the name of what you want your folder to be called and hit enter. Once the new folder is created, go to the files you want to move into that folder and either copy or cut those files. Then open your new folder. It will say zero items. In Excel, go to the format menu, scroll to cells and hit enter. Press control and tab until you hear number tab. Then hit the tab key once. That will depend on which email program you use. For outlook, you have to export what you want to save into a folder and then save that folder to a flash drive or some type of external hard drive. To back up a file: Go to my computer; Select the file or folder you want to back up; Alt C to copy what has been selected; Go to the file or drive where you want to save what has been copied; Hit control V to paste the copied material into that file. Yes; if you are going to backup to a CD you would need a program to burn the CD. Usually, I back up files to a flash drive and then put those files into another computer to back them up. If I understand yur question, when you encounter a pdf file, you want to save it where you can find it and then use conversion software to open it. If you are in internet explorer, hit the right mouse button key on the file name; then jaws will say save target as; at tthat point type the file name that you want to use and make sure the file extenstion is pdf.
