Subject: ColdFusion Spectra - Install on Windows Server 2003

Hi there

I have an interesting problem. A firm I am doing some work for is trying to
move Spectra v1.5.2 (I think thats the correct version) from Windows Server
2000 to Windows Server 2003 with an Oracle database.

A problem that they are finding is that it is possible to login when
attached to the server, but users have been unable to login via
workstations.

They appear to have tried everything but have been unable to login from a
workstation.

Wondering if anyone has any idea what might be causing this issue.

The login framework appears to be working OK, it appears to be some type of
issue with session management or the use of cookies.

If anyone has any ideas or knowledge it would be greatfully accepted.

Regards

Re: CF8 on existing JRun

2007-06-01 Thread Robertson-Ravo, Neil (RX)
Well it would appear I would need to run Updater 6 (which I assume is the
version which ships with CF8)

Then install 8 etc or at the very least modify each instance to use it's own
JVM.

Yes. You can deploy CF 8 on the JRun that came with CF 7.02 without any
precautions. If you deploy CF 8 on the JRun that came with an earlier
version of CF you need to make sure you have the latest updater or else
your JRE will be unsupported.
You need at least a recent 1.4 JRE (I think 1.4.2_6, but get the latest
and you will be OK). CF 8 will also work on a 1.5 and a 1.6 JRE. In
order to use the new line debugger you need to have a 1.6 JRE and that
will give you a nice speed boost too, so I would recommend just
upgrading your JRun too.

Data Encryption

2007-06-01 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Hello Guys,

I'm at the point where I really need to start thinking about the encryption
of data for my app. We're running MX7 and SQL Server 2005 and from what I've
read CF seems to have some fairly decent tools out of the box and ready to
use. I've also heard people talking about different types of encryption,
such as 'public key' and things like that, so thought I'd come here and get
your opinions on it.

The data that's likely to be encrypted is generally sensitive information
about all my users, from contact details through to billing information.
What is the best type of encryption for this kind of thing? And how is it
best implemented in an OO fashion? Should I be doing this encrypt/decrypt
inside my DAO's and Gateways? Or from the bean in the getters? I'm thinking
that the DAO/Gateway would be simpler to implement.

Thanks for any advice guys,

Rob

The difference between Java 1.4 and 1.6 is much smaller then the
difference between CF 7 and Scorpio. I don't know about any specific
first hit times and since I have only benchmarked compiled deployments I
doubt the numbers could be extrapolated to your situation.

Re: cf8 cftextarea richtext - niggles

2007-06-01 Thread Joshua Cyr
This is important to get confirmed. My chat with the dev team a few
weeks ago indicated they wouldn't be releasing updates as often as fck
does. They changed some core fck files (file browsing for example) for
security reasons and thus it isn't the exact same code as from the fck
site. And that replacing it would cause support issues. That said I
imagine replacing the code would be pretty easy if you have access to
the server.

I figure the inclusion of FCK into CF8 is going to be a here's

cfgrid

2007-06-01 Thread Wes Middendorff
I am having trouble with the cfgrid tag. My situation is such that on my
developement server I am able to access the cfgrid applet everything works
great when accessed through http://localhost/..., but when accessing from the
machines IP address (http://255.255.255.255/...) from the server or anywhere
else it does not load and I get the nasty box with the red X. I have concluded
that since the browser is able to load applets from other sites and even able
to load cfgrids from other sites, that it is not the browser. I am using
coldfusion enterprise, JRun, and IIS. I would assume that the problem is IIS
related, but am unsure what the IIS problem could be. Any suggestions from the
all knowing gurus?

Ok, to run MySql locally, just download the community server version
from their website.
To use MySql on HostMySite, you'll need to connect to their MySql
installation (I'm assuming you can get the details from them) and
then you can use a GUI frontend, such as Navicat to create the tables
remotely, or import them from a local installation.

CFFM 1.16 Released (Coldfusion File Manager)

2007-06-01 Thread Rick Root
CFFM 1.16 is now available for download at http://www.opensourcecf.com/cffm

I've in tegrated ImageCFC 2.17, and added more error trapping to
reduce problems relating to corrupt and unknown image types.

New features!!!

Image manipulation operations are now performed on a working copy of
the original file, allowing you to commit or discard changes.
Added the Crop to exact size option for resizing when the preserve
aspect ratio is used.
Added crop capability

For the uninitiated, here's the definition of preserve aspect ratio
and crop to exact size

Preserve aspect ratio will resize an image to fit within a specified
dimension, but ONE dimension will likely be smaller. Ie, a 640x480
image resized to 100x100 with the preseve aspect ration option checked
will actually be resized to 100x75.

With the crop to exact size, the image will first be resized to
133x100, then cropped to 100x100.

For some reason, they were targeted for a DDoS attack maybe like 3 weeks ago.

MySQL I would have no problem with - it's the tables and structure for the

To use MySql on HostMySite, you'll need to connect to their MySql
installation (I'm assuming you can get the details from them) and
then you can use a GUI frontend, such as Navicat to create the tables
remotely, or import them from a local installation.

stopped working for me once they moved. I haven't made an issue out of it,
because I am afraid they may block access without going through a formal
justification process.

I'm able to view the site no problem.

It's been intermittently very slow lately though. Not sure what's up
 with their hosting situation.

For some reason, they were targeted for a DDoS attack maybe like 3 weeks
ago. After that, they had to migrate to a new hosting provider. So, the
servers are in a new infrastructure and they could still be working things
 out a bit...

select name=NEW_Plate_to_make

Fusebox YouTube video competition ends 6/22/07

2007-06-01 Thread Michael Smith
You've seen them - the ten minute presentations where Rails enthusiasts make a
blog or some other
handy application to demonstrate the versatility of the framework. Now it's
time for Fuseboxers
around the world to showcase their skill and the framework they love. Team
Fusebox wants you to put
together a ten minute YouTube video and will reward the creator of the video
that gets the most
votes with a bunch of good stuff. Confirmed prizes include a pass to CFUNITED
with more to follow.
The idea behind the competition is to generate some buzz around the framework
and get some Fusebox
demos out there to illustrate the power of the framework. We realize that a
good deal of the power
of the framework comes from ColdFusion's extensive, simple tagset, but the same
can be said for many
frameworks.

WebCharts3D - WYSIWYG editor not working

2007-06-01 Thread Leitch, Oblio
I'm trying to use the WebCharts3D WYSIWYG editor on my devel system, but
I can't get it to work. It starts to load, gets as far as the main
screen, but the console window shows an out of memory error. Any idea
how to make it work?

50% chance to win Ben Nadel's Wii and CFUNITED tix

2007-06-01 Thread Michael Smith
I hear that there is only have one entry for Ben Nadel's open source CF
programming contest http://www.bennadel.com/index.cfm?dax=blog.cfunited
and the deadline is Tuesday 6/5/07. With a first prize of a Wii AND a
$1000 valued ticket to CFUNITED (and second and third prizes of 50% off
your registration), the current only entrant Brice Mason is 100% certain
to win! So if anyone else has some cool CF code that you want to make
open source you would have a 50% chance of winning the top prize, and a
good chance of winning something!

You don't have to duplicate a paid component - just do something cool
and make it open source. Perhaps you even have some code lying about
your computer that is ready to submit as you read this... That code
could snag you a Wii and CFUNITED ticket!

Method=GET received as POST by CF

2007-06-01 Thread Claude Schneegans
Hi,

Although I'm not sure this could be related to CF, but I'm having some
weird errors
caused from time to time in some form action template not able to find
anything in the form scope.
I'm certain the template is called with METHOD=POST, but when the
error occurs,
a CFDUMP on the form scope is empty, and the CGI variable REQUEST_METHOD
contains GET.
How can this happen ?
It is out of question that the user is trying to horse around with the
template, first they pay me to develop their application, secondly, I'm
pretty sure they will never be able to do it anyway ;-)

Their browser is IE 7.
And yes, I also pass some parameters in the URL, but it is not supposed
to cause any problem.

Correct. CF7 is not supported on JRE 1.5 or 1.6. The earlier JRun is
not supported on JRE 1.6 either.

CF8 and the JRun that comes with it are supported on 1.4.2, 1.5 and 1.6.

You might be able to get CF7 running on the new JRun on JRE 1.6

Also when I check the Logs it seems that one particular query always seems

here are all of the XML functions (as of MX 6.1... )

http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/6.1/htmldocs/functi20.htm#wp3468770

you might also want to check cflib.org. there are UDFs for converting
RSS feeds into cf objects (like structs or queries)... but make sure
to check the required version of CF. I believe many (if not all)
require MX as they make use of the MX XML functions.

Which DB? We have seen similiar errors when using SQL 2005.

It looks more than likely a network issue. Is the DB an ODBC connection or
JDBC? Which drivers?

 Hi,

Although I'm not sure this could be related to CF, but I'm having some
 weird errors
caused from time to time in some form action template not able to find
 anything in the form scope.

That is freakin weird. I'm having the exact same problem. I have a posted
form that occasionally seems to drop the form variables. I get an error
email that shows the form struct is empty, although I know that there is no
way to hit this page other than a post with several hidden form fields
defined. This happens maybe one out of 200 times.

In my case cgi.request_method reports post so that's not where the failure
is occurring. I've not been able to pin down why it happens.

I'm on Linux/Apache2.0.52/CF7.02.

Re: Java 1.6.0_01

2007-06-01 Thread James Wolfe
You might be able to get CF7 running on the new JRun on JRE 1.6
although I haven't tried.

I tried with the JRE and failed. It seems that you need the entire JDK (not
just JRE) to get CF7 running on 1.6.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Verity Search portion of CF. I
couldnt get it to run at all (JDK or JRE). :(

Alt tag

2007-06-01 Thread Pete
Hi there

I'm trying to get an Alt tag to appear with the main image but having no
luck? Any suggestions where I need to place the Alt text etc?

src=photos/thumbs/#rsGetDetails.pic1# class=border name=thumbnail1
border=0 width=50 height=50 alt=#rsGetDetails.pic1_alttext# /

Basically I have a number of thumbnails where a person can scroll over - I
would just like to place an Alt tag with the main image as well.

FWIW, it works in IE, not Firefox.

Add a 'title' attribute as well and you should be good to go
cross-browser (at least as far as IE and FF cross) :)

To get a little pedantic, the alt attribute is not meant to be a tooltip

IE renders alt text as a tooltip. Firefox does not. Its not something you

Session timeouts with ntauthenticate and cflogin

2007-06-01 Thread Steve Good
Hi gang,

I using a login script in my Application.cfc that authenticates using
cfntauthenticate to verify username password, then use cflogin to
actually login to the site. I use session variables throughout the site
to determine what users can and can't access. The problem I am running
into is with session time outs and trying to login from more than one
location. For instance, I have session variables set to time-out after
1 hour. However, the user stays logged into the system even after the
session variables have been trashed, and because of this the site
generates errors unless they actually pass a ?logout=1 parameter through
the URL.

On my old site I was not authenticating against an Active Directory, and
just using queries to verify login credentials. I had no problems with
session variables, and if the user was inactive for X number of minutes
the script would kick them back to the login screen.

How would I do this using cflogin and cfntauthenticate? Below are

: Alt tag andNFB Convention

2007-06-01 Thread Peter Donahue
Good evening Sandra and everyone,

As one who is blind and uses a screen reader for exactly that reason
you're right on. I looked at the site and the tag Pete sent in his message.
In so far as I know when using the alt attribute you must use a proper
description. For example:
img onmouseover=imgMain.src='photos/large/#rsGetDetails.pic1#';
src=photos/thumbs/#rsGetDetails.pic1# class=border name=thumbnail1
border=0 width=50 height=50 alt=Home /

The screen reader sees this text and gives the link a proper name.

Another way alt text is used is to describe images such as pictures.
Example:

img src=http://www.nfb.org/images/nfb_mfi.gif alt=National Federation of
the Blind members surrounding the outdoor stage at Sentennial Park. Former
United States Embassador Andrew Young Addresses the croud during the
first-ever NFB March for Independence. /

I hope these examples will enable you to create and use alt text
correctly. By the way the event I described in my photo description alt text
example above is slated to take place on the morning of July 3, 2007 in
Atlanta Georgia during the 67th annual Convention of the National Federation
of the Blind. Our convention will begin on June 29th and will conclude on
Friday July 6th, 2007. It is being held at the Marriott Marquis in downtown
Atlanta.

I'm mentioning this here as among the many activities taking place
throughout the week there will be seminars and demonstrations of the
assistive technology used by blind computer users. There will also be an
exhibit hall in the International Level in the Marriott where you can visit
with vendors of these products and ask questions of their representatives to
help you be better able to ensure your Web sites and applications can be
used by persons with disabilities including the blind.

A number of our special interest groups are also concerned with the use
of access technology and ensuring that applications and Web sites are
disabled-friendly. I'll post a list of these in a subsequent message in the
hopes that those of you that can get away to spend some time at our
convention will know when these activities are taking place. I'll only list
computer and Internet-related meetings.

Visits from the Web and application design community also helps us
familliarize ourselves with new technologies being used to create these
applications. This will go a long way to help us determine how best to
design RIAS these technologies are used to build to ensure their usability
by the blind and disabled. For example I'm one of only a few blind
ColdFusion developers I know of. Not very many of us are acquainted with
frameworks such as ColdSpring, Mach II, Model Glue, Flex, Spri, AJAX, etc.
And let me knot forget Apollo. The discussions I've read and heard lead me
to think that some very useful applications could be created with Apollo
which could be made to work with screen readers.

Anyway I wanted to let you all know about the convention in the event
those of you who will be in Atlanta during the first week of July can visit
with us if your schedules permit to learn how assistive technology works,
and to get tips and tricks from end-users of your creations the blind
themselves on how to ensure their accessibility for blind persons. For more
information about the National Federation of the Blind and the up-coming
National Convention please visit:
http://www.nfb.org

Here's hoping some of you can attend the convention and I, along with other
blind individuals will get a chance to meet you in person. While I'm at it
are there folks on here who are members of the Atlanta CFUG?I just visited
their Web site to find out when the July meeting was held. Assuming it's
held on a night when there's nothing going on there may be a few of us who
might want to attend depending on the location in relation to the Marriott
Marquis. I looked on their Web site and did not see a date listed for their
July Meeting. If someone has that information please let me know so I can
spread the word among our Webmasters and others who may want to attend to
learn more about CF, and what it could do for our Web sites. I know that's
more than I intended for this message, but I did want to alert you all to
our convention to peak your interest in possibly coming to see assistive
technology and see demonstrations of how it works. Let me quit for now to
gather the list of events you may want to attend. All convention sessions
including special interest seminars are open to the public. And best of all
they're free. Best wishes to everyone for a great weekend.

Peter Donahue

Re: Restarting CF Server Manually on Linux

2007-06-01 Thread Terry Ford
Depending on where you installed CFMX, the path may be different, but it'll be
something like this:

/opt/coldfusionmx/bin/coldfusion stop
/opt/coldfusionmx/bin/coldfusion start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

You can then do /opt/coldfusionmx/bin/cfstat 1 to watch it process requests.
