[Chevelle-List] Sending Pictures

2002-02-05 Thread Keith Cooper

Kelly,
We can still send pictures but the total email
files size must be smaller than 29kb. Your email was 21kb. The pictue itself was
just under 14kb. Low resolution and small photos will keep the photo file size
small. If you are not sure of the size of an email is with a photo included,
just send it to yourself first. When you get the email back, right click on the
email and select properties. The file size will be showing.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 12 Bolt Rear End

2002-02-05 Thread Kent Lewis

Keith,

You will be mislead if you use that method for an "open
differential". They are not the same. It has been "many Moons" since
I did this, so bear with meif you have an open differential - then you will
add + 1 to your sum (number of times the driveshaft will turn with one complete
rotation of the rear tire). As stated earlier, the size of the tire only
changes the Effective Gear Ratio. So, if your still with me, here is an
example:

Open Differential - driveshaft turns approx. 2.5 times
to one rear tire revolution + 1 = 3.50 gears.

PosiDifferential - driveshaft turns approx. 2.5 times to
one rear tire revolution = 2.50 gears.

Now, if you are NOT sure on which rearend you have, then
theBEST way is toremove the rearend cover, and have a look.

I had a 1979 C-10 305 (POS) that the head warped a bit from the PO's
overheating problem, turns out it had a 2 core radiatorthe same one he
ran when it overheated (he never fixed the problem, just put on new head
gaskets. A trip to Blaine's supply in Dallas for a new set of heads cured
it thoughfor awhile. Seems the piston rings were shot too and shortly
after the engine took a divecheck everything you can before deciding
what to do, I should have replaced the entire engine, but listened to
someone who wanted just to replace the heads (he's mechanichaven't
asked him to help me since).

Take the carrier out and try the axle in it, if it fits it is jus a matter
of patience and it will enter.

One
turn is one turn, with 10 or 20 inch wheels its still one
turn.
What
you are thinking about is that your car will travel a greater distance if the

If you use the drive shaft rotation method, should
youlook at the axle rotation and not the tire rotation?? If the tire size
( 14" to 15" or 16" rims and tires) has been changed then the tire rotation
ratio would be wrong I think, wouldn't it?? I would think that you need to look
at the drive shaft to axles rotation. Am I wrong or right. This may be why my 71
Chevelle comes out to be 2.5 ratio which seem low. I have put 15" rims and tires
on the car.

  Hello T in SC,

You are basically correct about how to determine
the rear end ratio. For a 3.73:1 ratioit's actually 3 and almost 3/4
(.75) revolutions of the drive shaft to one revolution of the tires. It
equates to the number of teeth on the ring gear (driving the tires) divided by
the number of teeth on the pinion (driven by the drive shaft). In gear design,
it's really based on the pitch diameters of the gear and the pinion, but the
number of teeth is a hell of lot easier to determine. For a 3.73 gear set, I
believe there's 11 teeth on the pinion and 41 teeth on the ring gear (41 / 11
= 3.72727rounded to3.73). You can pull the rear end cover to count
the number of teeth. But counting the revs for the drive shaft and tire should
get you close enough. I don't know the standard ratios offered for 1969, but
  in 1967 they were 2.73, 3.07, 3.08, 3.31, 3.36, 3.55, 3.70, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56
and 4.88. I think some were just for 10-bolt rears, some were just for 12-bolt
rears and some were just for automatic transmissions. My 1967 is a 12-bolt
with 3.73 gears in it, buta prior ownerhad 3.07 gears in it for a
  while.

  I hope this helps.

the rear u joint. The number of times it spins while completing one
full revolution of the tire can determine the gear ratio. For example
if the u joint turns 3 and a quarter turns then the rear end is most likely
a 3.73. Any ideas???

Thanks in

RE: [Chevelle-List] rear wiew mirrors

2002-02-05 Thread John Nasta

1964-68
used a round door mirror. I carry the Original GM replacement mirror for $69.95
(w/o the bow tie). Repros are available with the bow-tie for $44.95 (U.S. made)
or $29.95 (imported). IMO the U.S. mirrors are a little better made, though the
differences are minor. Also, from what I've seen so far, the repro mirrors (both
U.S. imported) have a dimple at the end of the shaft that the
mirror backing plate mounts to, while the original GM ones are rounded (quick
way to spot a repro).

The 1968-69
Camaro uses the same rectangular mirror that was used on the 69 Chevelle.

Starting in the south at Mission San Diego de Alcalá and ending in the north

According to the California Highways official web page
(http://www.pacificnet.net/~faigin/CA-HWYS/elcamino.html), El Camino Real
means The King's Highway. Eighth grade Spanish was a l-o-n-g time ago,
but that was the name of our Spanish book, and I thought it was The King's
Highway and wanted to research it. El Camino Real runs from San Diego to
Sonoma.

According to the California Highways official web page
 (http://www.pacificnet.net/~faigin/CA-HWYS/elcamino.html), El Camino
Real
means The King's Highway. Eighth grade Spanish was a l-o-n-g time ago,
but that was the name of our Spanish book, and I thought it was The
King's
Highway and wanted to research it. El Camino Real runs from San Diego to
 Sonoma.

Yes, The Kings Highway is correct, and Road is equally correct from
some translations. (note: I attended El Camino Real high school) If
you travel California, you can follow this road and visit the missions,
and many highways take the same path. Have you ever noticed those funny
bells hanging from a curved pole when driving on parts of the 101 or
I-5? These mark El Camino Real.

Two other El Camino Reals are:
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This 1,800 mile trail goes from Mexico
City to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In the United States, this route runs
along approximately I-25 between El Paso TX and Taos NM.
El Camino Real de los Tejas. El Camino Real de los Tejas and variations
in the primary route were used for more than 150 years as the principal
route between Mexico City, Saltillo, Monclova, and respective presidios,
and the missions near the present Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico, on the Rio
Grande and Los Adaes in what is now northwestern Louisiana.

Good luck. I never did find one

I ended up taking a PG cover for a SBC (the smaller flywheel anyway),

was better than nothing I might have even had to change the
starter snout opening too.

take care,

El Camino Real was the connection between the missions of California.

Starting in the south at Mission San Diego de Alcalá and ending in the north
at Mission San Fransisco Solano. Which is north of what is now San
Francisco in Solano, California.

Man, I've been out of school too long.:) Thanks for clearing that up..

All three - www.elcaminoworld.com, www.elcaminocountry.com and
www.elcaminoheaven.com are currently available according to DNS registrars.

FWIW, you can register a domain name now and have it hosted later on.
Dotster.com is $15.00 a year compared to someone like Network Solutions that
charges $35.00 a year.

Hey that's good to knowI registered everything last time with
Register.comthey are $35 and forwarding is $49 a year. It's all
deductible so the cost isn't really the issue as much as the ease of the
system. I know their's very well. I'll probably register it before too
long. I also own Hannasupersports.com but don't use it anymore since I sold
the other SS. I was going to try and do some investing in cars and
reselling, but that's out since I lost the investment money due to the
economy and an ill-timed house sale.

As far as the host goes I've got that covered for free with my ISP...I get
200 MB free with EV1.

translation that is considered correct in some areas.

Two other El Camino Reals are:
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This 1,800 mile trail goes from Mexico

Hey, I'm not crazy! Thanks for posting thisI was hoping that someone

one in Cali, but this one stuck in my mind when the question came up

In the United States, this route runs

SC TV Notes -- When FOX snapped up the Speedvision
organization last
year rumors began to flow almost immediately that SV was going to
become the NASCAR Channel. Since then Speedvision has become
the
SPEED Channel and although a NASCAR block of programming has been
announced, repeated assurances have been given that F1, ALMS and all

the other great motorsports programming will still be around. The
first great look at things to come for the NASCAR fans comes with
word that seven Busch North and seven Featherlite Modified races
will be aired. It is the first time since TNN lost NASCAR that
either series has gotten extended coverage. Kudos to the (FOX) SPEED

[Chevelle-List] More Speed Channel line-up....

2002-02-05 Thread Kelly C. Hanna

Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List

The previously announced NASCAR TV block was announced as running from 3:00
p.m. until midnight. This idea has
apparently been shelved as NASCAR programming
is spread all throughout the day and by no
means exclusive from 3:00 until midnight.

Totally NASCAR airs in a consistent time
slot at 6:30 p.m. ET.

 Inside Winston Cup makes its
much-anticipated return at 8:00 p.m. ET Mondays, with
 re-airs at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 11:00
p.m. Wednesdays.

 F1 practice gets a one-hour slot at 7:00
a.m. Fridays.

 F1 qualifying is on from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30
a.m. Fridays, with a re-air at 9:30 Saturday
evening and 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

F1 racing will be shown from 7:30 a.m.
until 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

CART practice will air from 2:00 to 3:00
p.m. on Fridays.

CART qualifying gets 1 1/2 hours at 1:30
p.m. Saturdays.

CART races get the 1:00 p.m. Sunday slot
for a two-hour broadcast.

8:00 p.m. Sunday will be a CART or F1 race
re-air, as will 1:00 a.m. on Mondays.

The 7:00 p.m. Friday slot is reserved for
a Trackside show from some event that
week. Re-air is at midnight and then at
11:00 a.m. Saturday.

The 8:30 p.m. Friday slot is reserved for
Winston Cup qualifying. We assume this will
 be a re-air of that afternoon's broadcast
on FX or some other outlet. Also, we assume
that it will not be shown on SpeedChannel
when FX has it delayed until Friday evening.
 Re-air is at 1:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

The Busch race re-air time slots are 1:00
a.m. and Noon on Tuesdays, plus 3:00 p.m.
 on Thursdays.

Many prime Tuesday slots are reserved for
motorcycle programming.

CART Countdown will air at 10:30 p.m. Fridays.

NASCAR Classic races will air at 1:00
p.m. on Wednesdays and 3:00 p.m. on
 Fridays.

Winston Cup Wednesday will air at 8:00
p.m. on Wednesdays and 1:00 a.m. and Noon
 on Thursdays.

Hooters Pro Cup racing has a time slot at
8:00 p.m. on Thursdays, with a re-air at 1:00
 a.m. Fridays.

Racing Across America, the NASCAR Touring
division races, will air on Monday nights
 at 8:00 p.m., with a re-air at 4:00 p.m.
on Wednesdays.
