Re: [Chevelle-list] epoxy for body panels?
Title: Message Repairing with any old 2 part epoxy isn't what I would recommend but there are products out there that work very well. 3M makes a product, # 8115 panel bonding adhesive, to be used with an applicator gun # 8191. The product is a two part adhesive that is mixed when the two parts combine in the nozzle of the applicator gun. I'm not sure the adhesive is an epoxy but it may very well be. 3M recommends plug welding the ends of the panel in the door jamb and at the rear. Their theory is that while the adhesive holds fast in a direct pull it can shear in a collision so they still recommend welding those areas. The product works very well in the field without any comebacks I am aware of since I've been selling the product. Some of the real benefits of using the product in the collision repair industry are the elimination of warpage from heat, the elimination of rust inside the panels caused by burnback of the coatings, they no longer have to worry about setting interiors on fire while welding and they don't have any spattering on glass. I just got an email suggesting that I try epoxy rather than welding to hang my new quarter panel. The advantage is supposed to be that there is no chance of heat distortion (warpage) that you can get from welding, also you dont need special equipment to do it. Supposedly this is common practice in body shops these days. Has anybody tried this?

Pull the plugs & crank it over, any water in the cylinders will be pumped out. Change the oil & filter & it should be fine. I'd also change the trans and diff fluids since water could get in through the vents. Even if no water got into anything, it's just good preventative maintenance. BillL

Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its accompanying mesh safety bag. Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach 77 refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque fork. Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of the Pyrex thistle tube. Before activating the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit, rotate the heater core to the "on" position. Once the red light is off, flip the toggle switch labeled "ON/OFF" to the "ON" position and count to 47 before logging on to the system. Logon using your username and password and wait for the prompt. Once prompted you must check the box with the appropriate action you wish to take and then press the pressure release button and turn off the compressor while turning the hand crank at 231 meters per minute. Next, press control, alt, delete, caps lock, shift, number lock, escape and tab simultaneously. Press enter. You will have one second to complete the procedure. If you fail to respond in the time limit allowed, simply purchase a new Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit and start from the beginning. Re: [Chevelle-list] Package Tray - 69 Chevelle
Mike, what you say is true. Although I agree with John that doing something to stop water from leaking in is way better than doing nothing at all, using silicone is not the answer. As well as the difficulty in removing the product when a true repair is done, the caustic effect of silicone on steel is reason enough not to use it. There are a number of sealers out there that will provide a temporary leak stop without the problems silicone can cause. That was not my intention. Silicone is a bodyman's nightmare. In any form, spray or adhesive in a tube in can cause major trouble to the guy that is doing a repaint. It gets into the pores of the metal and defys you to get it out. Then after painting it will cause flaws and lifting. The guy that does my paint work has a fit if he sees silicone in my building. I would suggest using Urethane winshield sealant instead to stop your leaks around the seal. And only new metal should be used to repair the rust holes. More than likely your "new" rebuilt master cylinder is kaput. I wouldn't say it's the fault of the guy who did your brakes, it's just one of those "s**t happens" things. The master cylinder was replaced as well as the rear shoes and rebuild the rear wheel cylinders . Checked the front discs and they were fine . Brakes were working fine until yesterday...brake pedal went to the floor and the brake lite came on . Good thing this happened in my driveway and not on the road like the last time the brakes failed . Put the car back in the garage and checked the brake fluid level and it fine, about a 1/4" fom the top. The brake job has less then 1000 miles on it. Any ideas went could have happened ? Could it be the vacuum booster? Thanks , Pete Hnat
Re: [Chevelle-list] Build Sheet?
You probably won't find it. You may find an interior broadcast sheet that looks like the one in this thread- http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118873 Read through this thread about 68 build sheets- http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112363 A POP (Protect-O-Plate) was a credit card like plate attached to the warranty book. The dealer would use this plate to stamp the repair orders for warranty purposes. Some info is put on the plate, but it's not everything that was on the car. If it was built in Canada, you can get documentation from GM Canada that will list all the options your car came with, the dealer it was shipped to, and other stuff. For examples, check out Dale's site- www.chevellestuff.com. Click on 68 Chevelle & a drop down menu will direct you to the pics. BillL Hey guys...where would I find the build sheet on a '68 Chevelle?? What is and where would I find a 'protect-o-plate'?? I've seen references to them, but still am not sure what it is... Thanks! One thing that is important to understand is WHY people subscribe to the list. Naturally, people subscribe to this list because they are interested in Chevelles. If the conversation turns toward a different topic, the list loses its worth. Even worse, it could chase away worthwhile contributors who would rather unsubscribe than have to constantly delete off-topic messages. That's fine. We all have to start somewhere. But it is important that some "rules of order" be established for the greater good of all. If I may suggest some netiquette, here's a quick list of guidelines that I think will make any discussion list operate more smoothly. This is all just slapped together in no particular order. (Pay close attention to #5) 1. If your post is relevant only to one member of the list, please contact that person using personal e-mail. However, some messages, though personal in nature, may also be relevant or useful for multiple members of the list. In such a case, it is definitely good to post to the whole list. 2. Use the subject line to announce your topic effectively. We all get a lot of e-mail and a descriptive subject line will help to identify a message and will help other members decide whether the message is relevant or of interest to them. 3. Use only one topic per message. If your message spans multiple topics, it'd be best to split that message up into multiple posts. That way it is more helpful for people to follow and may also get you better responses (because some people might not open your message if the subject doesn't look interesting) 4. Be thoughtful when posting information from other lists. Many of us are on several lists. Instead of a simple forward of the posting, add a note about why you found the other message informative and relevant. 5. If the message is off-topic, but you think people might be interested, post it. But make sure you mark it as "Off-Topic" or "OT" in the subject line. Please try to remember though, that too many off-topic posts are going to drive up the signal-to-noise ratio. Only make off-topic posts if you think it will be welcomed by the other members, won't cause a flame-war, and really is interesting. 6. Do not forward or share others' e-mail without permission. Believe it or not, email messages are covered under Copyright law. So, even beyond the lack of good taste, reposting someone's email without permission is a violation of copyright. 7. Restate (or, "quote") some of the message you're replying to so your reply makes sense. I cannot state this enough. Re: [Chevelle-list] Off-topic messages (was RE: FW: eSecurity Advisory: Blackmal Email Worm)
It is a fun forum , we have a way to un-sub, I'm sure someone will post it.. That's my cue! :-))) To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase a Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. Place the four sections of the triangular separation gear into the posture cylinder and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it seated correctly. Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power chamber. The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation. Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees. Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the door to the incineration valve compartment and set the pressure gauge to 719 psi. Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit should now be properly calibrated and ready to use. The "on" position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is about to go off. Please remember that this is the only way we will accept for you to unsubscribe from this service. We have made every attempt to simplify the procedure for your convenience. Failure to comply with the unsubscribe policy will result in immediate termination of your subscription so please follow the above directions closely Regards The Chevelle List

We help each other on this list too, but it's not as large as Team Chevelle. Why does a 307 use unique frame mounts? Externally, a small block Chevy is a small block Chevy. I've swapped numerous engines over the years, the only time I've had to change the frame mounts was when I put a V8 where a 6 was. With that said, my El is the only A-body I've owned, most of my cars prior to this were either Camaros or Corvettes and I never had to change frame mounts (except for the 6 to V8 swap). Is the frame mount an A-body only issue? Just curious, thanks. The unit can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. The "on" position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is about to go off. Please remember that this is the only way we will accept for you to unsubscribe from this service. We have made every attempt to simplify the procedure for your convenience. Failure to comply with the unsubscribe policy will result in immediate termination of your subscription so please follow the above directions closely Regards The Chevelle List

Can you tell me a little about Chevellabration? Is it like a weekend of Chevelles and owners, swap meet, cruise, etc? This probably says it best-- http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94514&highlight=story BillL
Re: [Chevelle-list] Chevelle Security
Vigilance and prayer. It's only parked & left at car shows or cruise-ins, so I don't worry about it too much. I pulled the coil wire out 2 years ago when my wife & I went to a shopping center in Goodlettesville when we were at Chevelle-a-bration. My car's not worth killing someone for it. I've forgotten who said it, but it's true "The very rich are different from the rest of us." BillL I'm not saying these prices are right but don't you think if someone is paying that kind of money for a car they wouldn't have the documentation checked out? Bottom line is Some people have money to burn and most of us don't.

I like this guy. He knows what he has & he knows what he wants for it, & he might be right as to its value. I doubt that it'll sell on Ebay, I figure he's using this for advertising & hopes to find a private buyer. The Q&A is funny. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 or 4.56?
For drag racing, 4.56. For the street, 3.73 or higher I have 3.89 gears in my 71 with a 28" tall rear tire. With a little torque converter slip thrown in for good measure my tach reads real close to 3200 RPM @ 60 MPH. For anything other than driving to the local get together at the McDonalds the gears are way too low. Chevy used to put 4.11 gears together with small blocks and powerglides. The cars would jump but couldn't get any gas mileage. GM did that because 1st gear in a Powerglide is not much lower than 2nd in a Turbo 350 but high gear is 1:1 just like the Turbo. To make the cars quick from a stop they used low rear end gears and let the poor things rev in high gear. You have to remember, gas was only around 30 cents a gallon back when they built those combinations and not many people really cared about gas mileage. My opinion, for what it's worth, is go 3.73s or higher. Bill Vander Werf - Original Message - From: "J. OK folks, I have the opportunity to use 3.73 or 4.56 gears in the 10-bolt posi I'm going to put in the '66. The car has a 300+/-HP 327 and PG. Anyone have any thoughts or previous experience with the 4.56 gears and the PG/small block setup? I drive the car to local shows, and want to be able to take it to Cecil on occasion. A relative told me to do the 4.56s and nothing less, thus my indecision. Thanks, Jim __ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com

Are you positive about that? Here's the MW deal, I found my old catalog, it says nothing about any machining. http://www.markwilliams.com/esell/prodlist.asp?catid=1028 BillL At 09:35 PM 11/27/2005, you wrote: Any cap but the original would have to be machined Larry (Z)
Re: [Chevelle-list] Parts
I think I remember from my drag racing days that Mark Williams & probably some others had a steel replacement cap for 12 bolts that made the rear stronger. I don't think that you had to do any machining to use these caps. If you aren't using it for a racing application, I would think that you could pull some caps off of another housing & use them without any problem. The front of the bearings are going to seat in the front caps, so any alignment would be done at that point. The rear caps are there to hold the bearing in place, and as long as they will tighten down the bearing race, that should work fine. Just my 2 cents.
