Re: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
I would suspect a Linux box somewhere on your net that has a new Samba install on it. The default configuration is set for the box to attempt to be the Master Browser. A tool like NMAP will help you identify the type of device you're dealing with, this could help in a process of elimination, otherwise ARP and CAM tables will find it, assuming you have switches and not hubs... - Original Message - From: "Priscilla Oppenheimer" To: Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 12:22 PM Subject: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701] > I don't think there's any answer to this, but I thought I would check. it is like this most months. the policy says you can drop your date up to 30 days prior to your test without penalty. many people may get closer to their scheduled date and decide they need more time to prepare and drop the date. you can usually find something either very soon or four to five months out. d ""J M"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > I went to schedule on CCO and i dont see a seat available between 1-29 and > 5-29 in RTP and 1-15 and 5-28 in SJ. Configuration Help... [7:58722]
I've created a webpage so that you can get a better idea of my requirements. http://www.geocities.com/checkoutmydiagram I am having trouble configuring it so that IP traffic gets separated from IPX/EIGRP traffic. It seems that things must either go through the GRE tunnel or through the IPSEC tunnel. Please email me *DIRECTLY* if you have any suggestions on the configs...If you can lab it up, that's great. I have four PDFs that I found on CCO: 3550 Multilayer Switch Command Reference 12.1.11EA1 " "Hardware Installation Guide " "Software Configuration Guide 12.1.11EA1 " "System Message Guide 12.1.11EA1 I don't have the direct links, but if you do a search for that text followed by "pdf," you might find them. Re: Ccie is a rip off! [7:58458]
I think that every test is only worth what you put into it yourself. I passed the old written and although it had its flaws, I learned a lot as I was reading through many, many, many books. I am also learning much more as I study and practice for my lab. I may pass it, I may not, but I'm sure of one thing. I will be much wiser at the end of my studies because I am trying to get the certification for the knowledge behind it, not just the piece of paper or prestige of it. Just my couple of cents. RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
Along with MAC tracing, using CDP to id next-hop switches, etc. you can also try to us something like psloggedon (or psshutdown if you have something of a mean-streak) from sysinternals.com. OR - if your domain is logging successful logins, maybe you could look through them to see who is logging in from that machine. ... get the user's name, send them a "friendly request" to modify their system accordingly. Or, if their policies permit, you could always sniff traffic from their IP looking for login names. May require some SPANning or 'traffic engineering' to get their packets to you ... (sorry the first couple weren't more 'network oriented' answers :)) Please let us know what you find / how you find it ... Thanks! RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrow [7:58701]
Very helpful. Thanks. I should have thought of that. :-) Of course, all the switches would have the MAC address in their cam (bridging) table if they had sent to it, but if all of them but one have the MAC address associated with a trunk, and one has it associated with an end-user access port, then we would at least know which switch is actually connecting the device. And from what I know about this network, that would help identify the school at least. I think each school has its own switch. The other suggestions are very helpful too. I'll let you know how we succeed. Thanks everyone for your help. RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
Probably won't help you in this situation, but in CiscoWorks 2000, there is a feature in Campus Manager called User Tracking that associates a UserName with a MAC Address and with a Device/Port combination. Has saved my bacon in several cases similar to yours. Assuming it's Cisco gear, you could also start at the core switch and do either a 'show cam dynamic' or a 'show mac-address-table' and try to follow the uplinks until you end up at an access port with your MAC address Good Luck! RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
Using Cisco gear I go to a router's arp table which also tells me the interface from which it learned the mac address. Then I go to the attached switch(es) and search for the mac and its associated interface. Cat5k> sh cam xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx Cat2924# sh mac-address-table address .. If I haven't been smart enough to add a port name or description line then it's wire tracing time. In your case I'll assume that there is one site that is the hub. From there can you determine which remote site has the offending computer? If the remote site has switches into which you can telnet you could narrow it down. RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
If it is a switched network, flood the IP in question after hours and look at the switches for the port with all the traffic. If there are no switches, then you will have to narrow it down to an individual hub and then look at that group of workstaions. I'm sure there is a more technical answer to this. -Original Message- From: Priscilla Oppenheimer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 12:23 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701] I don't think there's any answer to this, but I thought I would check. The point of the contiguous-netmask restriction is to allow cidr to work. Slash notation (e.g. /24) wouldn't make much sense if some of those 24 bits were zeros. You could use a program called retina security scanner (download a trial version from http://www.eeye.com/html/Products/Retina/Download.html) or GFI LanGuard at http://www.gfi.com/downloads/downloads.asp?pid=8&vid=1&lid=1. These will allow you to get more information such as users, service packs, last time users logged in, vulnerability and so on. This will help you narrow it down. You also can get registry information believe it or not. RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
Since the client does support NetBIOS, you could try using net send at the command line of another client to send a message to the user by computer name and ask them to call the support desk. Of course if it's a Windows 9x client they would have to be running Winpopup to receive your message. You could also use the remote shutdown utility from Microsoft to reboot the computer in x minutes and send a message along with a reason which again could be contact the support desk. -Original Message- From: Priscilla Oppenheimer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 11:23 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701] I don't think there's any answer to this, but I thought I would check. Re: Taking Wireless LAN Support Specialist on Sunday [7:58691]
Jim, I used: 1) the official CWNA study guide available for $30US from. http://www.cwne.com It is an excellent resource and worth at least 3 times the price. Regarding radio frequency mathematics, refer to the chart on page 33 (Figure 2.13). You won't get a clearer explanation with examples in any other resource. 2) "802.11 Wireless Networks: The definitive Guide" by Matthew S. Gast. Get familiar with the frame formats. It all makes sense when you compare the fields. 3)And of course, the IEEE 802.11 specification documents. It took me two tries. After failing I went out and bought Gast's book. And I got more intimate with the IEEE 802.11, a, b, g specifications. I underestimated the level of difficulty and detail required. Read the questions very very carefully. Good luck. There's no sign of anything else being routed in your config below. Since you've gotten rid of LAT, if you don't have anything else that needs briding, you can remove the bridge-group commands from Serial0 and FastEthernet0 and also the "bridge 1 protocol ieee" global config command. I think that would just be cosmetic though. It looks to me like you're already routing IP and not routing anything else, so you're in good shape. Re: Power Cable [7:58614]
Sounds like a standard IEC kettle lead to me. At least here in the UK, thats what they're for, electric kettles. IIRC these plugs are used for temperature-resistant leads, and the notch allows you to use a temperature-resistant lead in any application, but to disallow the incorrect lead in your kettle or other hot object. This may be an indication that your 7000 is going to suck some serious power 8^) In the UK you can get one of these in the local electical store, YMMV. rgds Marc NetEng wrote: > > I bought a 7000 router off of ebay. CCO is always the best place to study because I believe that most of the questions are taken from there. The nice thing about a book or practice tests, if they're done correctly, is that it takes the information on CCO (depending on the subject or exam) and puts it all in one place! the only difference is the full L3 capability, including BGP with the 12.1.11 release. the switches used in the CCIE Lab are the 3550-24's with EMI image. Power Cord ?? [7:58613]
I bought a Cisco 7000 router off of ebay. It did not come with a power cable and I can not find one for the life of me. I ordered and received CAB-7KAC=, but this cable does not fit. It says on the package thats its a 7500 series AC power cord. On ciscos website its says to order this cable but, again, it does not fit. Below is a layout of the power supply connector. Does anyone know the correct power cable to order (and where) to get it? TIA . The connector is like evey other one (router/monitor/PC) except it has a small ridge between the top prongs. | [] U [] | | | | [] | Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=58613&t=58613 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Which 3550 to purchase [7:58560]
All, I am looking to purchase a 3550, or two if I can afford it, for my home lab. I am looking on EBAY and see the SMI models with the EMI image. Is there more to the EMI switch than just software?
