Hi Phil
That link does not have any examples like this.
All these examples assuming dce interface.
I know switch configuration if it has dce interface.
But I don't how to do it if it has dte interface like
the one had written.
Can you please write the configuration for Switch ,
let's say R1 is using DLCI 103 and R2 is using 203.

 Thanks.

If the clients are on different layer 3 network,
then that should be configured as point to point

point to multipoint.
I think in the given senerio, it should be configured

can get the clock.you can use the comand
ntp server X.X.X.X where X is your ip addres for the NTP server. And also you
can use server for providing clock to other equipments on the network u can
downlaod the ntp server to ur network and get that synchronized from other
ntp servers around the world and then use this as reference for ur

2001-07-23 Thread Arun

Hi
I have x25 router configured at my office .It has two serial ports coming
from lets say source. the ports being as ser1/1 and ser2/1 and from
this router 2 ports each are connected to two machines working in
redundancy.It like this
Source ports: ser1/1,ser2/1--X25 Address 010102 for ser1/1
Machine1:ser1/3,ser2/3-X25 addresses 010104,010105
Machine2:ser2/0,ser2/2-X25 addresses 010104,010105
Out of these two machines only one will be active at a time .I have the
routes configured here as follows. The problem is these machines work fine
and switch from machine 1 to 2 is ok but if we reset the source then we
loose connectivity between the ser2/3 if machine 1 is active .Is the route
settings wrong .as configured below.Pls help onthis

 Hi,
The 'show system' command on a Cat 5500 contains a
current traffic level and a peak level. How long are
these values valid for. e.g is the current traffic
value over a five minute period ?
Is the peak value from when the Supy is booted up
 ?

PS : checked cisco.com but cannot find an answer.

 Regards,

 Phil.

Hi
ISL is cisco stuff ..if ur network is all cisco you can use ISL in that
but if it involves other switches or in near future u see this thing use
Dot.1Q.This is for the equipment ..and for the performance thing which one
is better i thing somebody more experienced can help u on this .

I'm not clear on which standard I should use for VLAN setup.
I will be using a 2948G-L3 as a core switch. Connected to the core
will be a number of 2948xl as access switches. The majority of these
access ports will connect directly to end stations, though some will
connect to other 2948s (via fiber and via wireless) which then will
 connect to end stations.

Does this last fact mean I must use ISL so as to implement trunking?

VPN Basics help needed--beginner [7:12406]

2001-07-15 Thread Arun

Hi
i am new to this VPN world i need to know some basics about it .how do i
start lets say i have mainoffice i want to connect it ot my clients ...take
may be 2 from different lcoations .
 Location1
mainoffice --|
 Location 2

now i know that both location 1 and 2 have their own connectivity to the
internet and also mainoffice if we have to go for cheap solution.
If i have a internet connection from main office say 3600 series router and
may be other location it coould be same .(do we require this)
Thats it ..all i know about VPN
My question are for the locations 1 and 2 ,what will be we using to connect
to mainoffice ..VPN clients i think are these clients to be from cisco for
it to work with it can anybody tell in brief about how it all works
then i think i should go about other things.

I have read cicso have products for VPN ...what they basically do
...security i think is main thing ..or they do somethig else besides
that.
if ihave a Pix won't it solve the purpose if i let only certain ip's
(which ip's i don't know) to have access.

i am really confused i tried reading about it but i cann't find the basic
things ..any help will be appreciated.

If you didn't do so already, read what the cisco docs say on show

port for each machine one is active and one is standy .machine switch
over to standy if it sees error i link so i need to route the packets to
this standby machine with interface ser 2/2 and ser 2/3 .

Well not sure about the stat but since its an event not an specific error
I
 would try following :

 - Though there is an OIR event configure same port put it online, verify
X25 works. Even if it works make sure you dont have any errors on link.
 - Try changing cable/PA/bay on same box.
 - If you another router running same image then use same cable/pa to make
sure if you get same error.

If that works then change logging level, also make sure you dont have
any records by typing following commands if its there then add more
 information to mail.

 - show exception
 - show align

 thanks,
 rahul.

I am using a 4500 with a Fast Ethernet interface and would like to be able
to route between VLANs that are setup on my 2900. I don't have the option
to
use encapsulation ISL using Ver 11.2 on the 4500. Do I have to upgrade to
11.3 or something higher to be able to use ISL?

 Thanks!

First, trunk mode is desirable, non-neigotate, auto, none, something like
 that.

Second, isl is an encapsulation method, it is not a trunk mode.

I am pretty sure you have layer 2 problem, cdp command is layer 2
 troubleshooting tool.

Regarding negotiations [7:5380]

2001-05-21 Thread Arun

Hi
I have catalyst 5000 series switch
the problem is when i connect a laptop or pc to it with a small length cable
say 10-20 feet ..i can talk to it with my settings of duplex as auto-select
and speed as auto-select both the settings are of network card i am using
( i am using xircom pc card and 3com pc card for the laptops )
but when the length is increased say 50-70 feet i cann't talk to it anymore
and it shows blinking lights on the switch side which i think it means
negotiations problemso i set my laptop or pc to duplex full and speed to
10mbps then i am only able to talk to it .no other mode is working
..both this settings are on the workstations side .
Can anyone explain what the problem is or what is wrong somewhere .

telnet

Rizzo - If you have total control of you Internet router, you may need to
NAT
there also towards the PIX in order to get your desired affect.

I was recently at a client that used the private 10.0.0.0 network
internally
and the private 172.19.0.0 for their DMZ connections to partner companies.
Some of their partners would not accept the 172.19.0.0 scheme and supplied
 the
company with some registered address space. To make the connection we
NAT'd
 on
the partner end (router owned by my client) and on the home end of the
connection in the PIX. This provide FTP and TN3270 connectivity to my
 client's
site from the partner company's network.

I know it's not exactly your scenario but it worked.

 Subject: RE: PIX question... [7:5248]

I beg to differ. I do not believe this can be done. When the PIX
translates (either dynamically or statically), it takes a private IP
 address
(inside interface) and translates it to a Public IP address (outside).
 Then
the outside interface will process ALL packets for that Public IP
address
and direct them to the internal source (private IP address). So if you
 have
a static NAT, say for like this

  static (inside, outside) 99.99.99.99 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255

and on the router you have assigned the 99.99.99.99 to the dialup user,
 then
you have 2 devices on the LAN that are assigned the 99.99.99.99 address
 (the
  router and the PIX)

You translate an IP address from a more secure network to the less
secure
network, in this case from the inside network to the outside network.
So
you would have to reverse the security settings, effectively opening up
 your
  LAN to the world.

You could do a couple of other solutions:

  1) VPN between router PIX
  2) Terminate clients inside the PIX
  3) Create an IP pool on the router and allow full access with an
access-list (for this range of IP addresses) on the outside interface
of
 the
  PIX.

This is my understanding of how the PIX and NAT translations work, but
I
have not tested this to disprove it, so if I am in error and some has
 tested
this and I am wrong, please let me know.

  Hope this helps.

We have had a pissing match lately and here's the details. One person
 states
that a VLan can not be sniffed because it is on a different subnet. The
other person says it can becuase it's physically on the same switch. I
 think
you can to a point. Here's what I mean; let's say we have a 3524 with
two
Vlans, VLAN1 (we'll call it InfoSys), and VLAN2 (called HR). If I have a
sniffer running on InfoSys, I should be able to sniff traffic on my
subnet
as well as traffic from HR to InfoSys (ie HR employee accessing mail
 server
on InfoSys), right? The only difference is that the source MAC address
 would
change. I should not be able to sniff traffic local to HR (ie an
employee
accessing accounting software) right? What's the rub?

Question

2000-10-10 Thread Arun Upadhyay

Can anybody please help in solving this problem?

A router is connected to a T1 line which has the
maximum speed of 1.544mbps. The router begins to
forward 64bkps packet at 5000 packets per second,
there are 500 buffers available. Approximately how
long before the link is complelety saturated, the
buffers are full and the router begins to discard.

 Thanks.

Re: CCIE question about buffers being used up on router

2000-10-10 Thread Arun Upadhyay

  Hi Priscilla
   I found the solution.

Here it is:
 1.544Mbps = 192KB/sec
Router begins to forward at the rate of 64KB/sec
means it is tranfering at the rate of 3 packets/sec
i.e it will take 1/3 sec. or 333 ms to transfer one
packet.

Now it's getting packets at the rate of 5000
packets/sec i.e one packet in every 1/5000 sec. or
1000/5000 = .2 ms
so it will get 500 packets in 500x.2=100 ms

So by the time router will forward first packet in
333ms, it's buffer will be full.

  Thanks for your help.

forward 64bkps packet at 5000 packets per

Do you mean 64-byte packets? If you convert that
 to bits it's 512 bits.
5000 packets of that size per second is 560,000
 bits per second, which
  is a
lot less than 1.544 Mbps so not much buffereing
will be needed at all. You
could have just one buffer and no packets should
 ever get dropped.

 Priscilla,

How did you come up with 560,000 bits per second?
 Can you break that down
for me, I know I must be doing something wrong:

 64bytes * 8 = 512 bits
 512 bits * 5000 packets = 256 bits

 brian

   there are 500 buffers available.

How big are the buffers? Can we assume they are
 64 bytes also?

   Approximately how
long before the link is complelety saturated,
 the
buffers are full and the router begins to
 discard.

If you are trying to get help with questions
like this that appear on the
CCIE written test and practice exams, you will
want to give us an example
of where the WAN link is oversubscribed. For
 example, if the offered load
to the WAN link is 110% more than the WAN link
 could handle, 500 buffers
would get used up in about 5000 packet times. (I
 think? Comments anyone?)

In reality, packets don't arrive at a constant
 rate, so much more
  difficult
math and queuing theory is required, and that
 goes beyond the research and
thinking I'm willing to do right now. ;-)

   Priscilla

 Thanks.

Set up question

2000-07-03 Thread Arun Upadhyay

Hi Friends
I have a question, if someone can help me I
will highly appreciate.

My office ( HQ ) is having Frame relay connection.
Now they want to connect one more branch office with
this office using Frame relay .But they want all the
branch office people to access internet using the
existing Frame relay connection at the HQ office.
Now my doubt is , do I need to call only phone company
for getting Frame relay line and DLCI no. or I have
to also involve ISP . Do I need valid IP from ISP or I
can use any private IP address.

Thanks in advance for any help.
