2000-09-15 Thread WKelly

Guys

The best practice is surely to write your own questions based on the
course text. You will find in order to frame the questions, you need to
know the answers and therefore the subject. And as Frank mentioned, test
questions then become irrelevant. I've tried this on 14 Prometric exams
for a range of qualifications including Cisco.. and I have managed to
pass every one [thank God].

CCNA 2.0 Passing

2000-09-14 Thread Norman Kunathansak

Hi all,
Just a quick information about CCNA 2.0
I took it yesterday and pass with 902 score. Not many subnet question like I
expect. No Catalyst 1900 at all. Overall, the exam is quite basic, but be
careful with the timing. I only had 5 mins left after all questions. You
can't go back after you pass the question.

Good luck

I took 2.0 and if I remember correctly they did not ask anything about Token

Design(Swithes and Bridges etc).

Re: What routers for ccna 2.0 and ccnp 2.0?

2000-09-12 Thread Vern Stitt

If you use the 640-407 book from Sybex, make sure to download the "errata"
and "new chapter 11" from their web site.

http://www.sybex.com/cgi-bin/rd_err_temp.pl?2381err.html

http://www.sybex.com/cgi-bin/rd_up_temp.pl?2381up.html

The errata makes the book much better as it corrects many of the errors in
the book. The new chapter 11 adds more WAN information.

I am going to obtain two routers for my preparation for the CCNA 2.0, and
CCNP 2.0. track. I would appreciate any suggestions on what type of routers
to get. I have seen people recommend two 2501 routers while other say get
one with a token ring interface.
I was given the book CCNA Study Guide exam 640-407 by Todd Lammle. What book
would be a good addition to this that would cover the additional information
for the 640-507 test.
Any suggestions on either of these matters would be appreciated.

Re: What routers for ccna 2.0 and ccnp 2.0?

2000-09-12 Thread Stuart Laubstein

You might try a 2501 and then a 2503(ethernet)or a 2504 (token ring). The
2504 will probably be a lot cheaper(400-600 bucks maybe) but you will need a
computer with a token ring card etc for it to to be useful as token ring
test box. ISDN will be the same for both of course. For CCNP you might need
a 3rd router and or a switch etc to properly try out all the technologies.

What routers for ccna 2.0 and ccnp 2.0?

2000-09-12 Thread Don Crow

I am going to obtain two routers for my preparation for the CCNA 2.0, and
CCNP 2.0. track. I would appreciate any suggestions on what type of routers
to get. I have seen people recommend two 2501 routers while other say get
one with a token ring interface.
I was given the book CCNA Study Guide exam 640-407 by Todd Lammle. What book
would be a good addition to this that would cover the additional information
for the 640-507 test.
Any suggestions on either of these matters would be appreciated.

Thanks
Don

RE: Fw: All CCNA 2.0 & CCNP 2.o Beta Questions - FREE

2000-09-08 Thread Scott Meyer

You just proved that it is easy to make enemies.

Everyone is here either to help others, be helped by others, or ideally,
both. I will not spoon feed anyone, not do I want to be spoon fed.

Having been the victim of paper certified people, I will do whatever I can
to prevent them from reproducing. Giving someone the questions on a test,
will get them certified, but does nothing to improve the individual, the
company sponsering the cert, the employers of the individual, or the
customers the individual may service.

If you trully wish to help people, not just get them certified, you need to
give them a nudge in the right direction when they hit a wall. I am far from
a guru, but I try to help others learn and improve themselves, and in doing
so, I learn myself.

It makes no difference to me if there are 100 CCNA's or 100,000. I earned my
certifications, and am confident that if the questions changed, I can pass
the test again.

There is only 1 question that really matters - Can you get this working?

If I understand the answer, the question just doesn't matter.

FWIW, it's easy to insult another, it's not easy to change anothers opinion.

This message is for Mr. Frank Haun.

Our elders tell us to think before speaking but
probably that doesn't apply to idiots like you because
that would require grey matter inside your skull which
you don't have. It is very easy to make enemies but it
takes courage to make friends. I am quite sure you and
Muhammad or for that matter I don't know each other,
then where is this hatred coming from Mr. Frank Haun.
Do you feel so insecure about your skills that you are
afraid that helping others to pass CCNA or CCNP will
jeopardies your job. I subscribed to this mailing list
to help and be helped. But if someone out there needs
help, how does it matter if they get little feed back
from this forum. So for next time I hope you will use
what ever is left of your grey matter in the benefit
of others. I really respect those who post answers on
this forum knowing they will not get anything out of
it.

Re: Fw: All CCNA 2.0 & CCNP 2.o Beta Questions - FREE

2000-09-07 Thread Syed Faisal Ashraf

Hi Frank,

I thought about what I wrote to you, I am sorry that I
used some misappropreiate words. But I am sure you
will agree with me that it was just a reaction to what
you wrote. You would have said the same thing without
being so rude and nasty.

But I still disagree with what you said. If you look
at what Manoj and Muhammad wrote carefully you would
find that they are not asking for anything out of the
ordinary.

Tell me something, why do pilots get trained on flight
simulators and not the actual plane? Because if they
don't know what they are doing they will kill
themselves and their instructors.

I see no difference in this scenario and preparing for
any exam. Be it college or school exam or
certification exams.

Secondly, if obtaining exam questions was wrong, then
Cisco, Microsoft and whole lot other High Tech firms
should file a law suit against Transcender, SelfTest
and CCPrep etc. Are they also not giving out test
question? You probably would also say that, "Not only
that those numb skulls want us to pay for it."

So my dear Frank, please think before you pass
judgement on others. Sometime I really hate Internet
because we take undue advantage of our anonymity. But
tell me would you have said what you said if you were
talking to Manoj and Muhammad face to face. I don't
think so. If you had disagreed, you would have
expressed your sentiment much differently. It is just
like peolpe show there finger while the are driving
and someone overtakes them dangerously but they won't
express themselves so impolitely if they are walking
on the sidewalk and someone bangs into them.

So it is not about free ride to CCNP certificate. In
this day and age when you are made to take exam online
it is rather difficult to pass exams by cheating. But
my experience with Transcender exams are that around
50% questions that I saw on the trancender tests were
repeated in the actuall exam. Would you call that
cheating?

I just want to conclude this by saying that respect is
a two way process, you only get it if you give it to
others.

Take care

What you are proposing is not help, but a method of cheapening the
certification for those of us who have worked and studied hard to achieve
our goals. A person will find greater worth in something if they have to
work to attain it, instead of having it given to them. You cheapen the
certifications and anyone you "assist" in this manner (yourself included).
This list IS about helping others, not about helping each other to "cheat"
more effectively. I find your commentary about about Mr. Haun to be as
offensive to me, as his language was to you (FWIW, I do not approve of his
language, only the sentiment expressed by it).

Newly pased CCNA 2.0

2000-09-05 Thread JLBCisco

Hi gang,

I just passed the CCNA V2.0 today with a 913. I found it a very fair,
straight-forward test, with not more than a few confusing or badly written
questions.

I self-studied using first the Sybex/Lammle book, which is probably enough to
get a passing score but left me feeling I needed more in-depth work so I then
went htrough the Cisco Press CCNA Guide by Wendell Odom. Very good, very
dense, way more than enough depth for what was required for the test but
learning something extra never hurt me so far, and the review questions and
practice test cd make it worth buying. Just to cap it off I also went
through the ICND book, since I could get reimbursed for the cost of it (which
is too high, IMHO). It's a great resource for the test also, in fact in
hindsight I wish I'd read it first and then went on to the Lammle or Odom
books. Any two of these three books, in any order, is more than adequate
preparation for this test, in my experience.

Thanks to all of you for the inspiration your posts give me in my journey,
now on to CCDA!

Just Passed CCNA 2.0, as far as I can remember, no ATM question. I used
Osborne CCNA study guide. Passing Score is high, from 1000 scale, you must
have at least 866. CCNA cover only OSI Stacks, RIP, IGRP, LAN Switch.

Good Luck

2000-08-17 Thread WONG CHEE VOON

Hi,

I just took my CCNA 2.0 today and passed with 941. I understand your
concern of just having and studying 640-407 materials and taking a 640-507
exam. I would personally recommend you to get the ICND book by cisco press
cause I think the ICND covers certain subjects which are not in the 640-407.

CCNA 2.0 Info

2000-08-16 Thread Kris Jacobs

I purchased Todd Lammle's 640-407 CCNA study book in the plan of
getting my CCNA 1.0 cert by July, which didn't happen. In
addition, I also have Cisco's ICRC book.

My question is, now that the CCNA has changed to ver 2.0
(640-507), do I need to purchase any other study materials, or
will the books I have (in addition to numerous 640-407
whitepapers/practice tests) be enough to enable me to pass the
test? If not, which singular book would be best recommended to
increase my chances of success?

Lastly, if anyone (without breaking the NDA) could tell me the
differences between the 407 and the 507 so I could pinpoint what
to study, I'd appreciate it. (Yes, I've searched the archives,
but didn't find this specifically addressed)

RE: CCNA 2.0: Advise needed, "I took v2 on July 2 and a little thoughts for people new to the field"

2000-08-06 Thread Butcher, Matthew

The passing score was 82%, I only got 87% and thought I would fail it during
the whole 1.5hrs.
I went to a Cisco Training partner for ICND "Interconnecting Cisco
Networking Devices" and studied the CCNA 507 book.
I also, like today, spent my weekends in my work lab doing all the
labs. The test was harder than any MCSE test I took and I am glad. The new
test ?s are about a paragraph long and some have multiple choice all the way
out to f.
For anyone deciding to get into IT profession I suggest two things,
if you are fresh out of school, get you CCNA and buy a router to do you
labs, classes are good but if out of pocket then I suggest a book and a
router, then try to work for one of these consulting firms.
If you are older and trying to break in the market you probably have
a better chance getting your MCSE or close to it, then work on a help desk
with the intent to move into operations.
These thoughts are based on 10 years of Networking field work in
Ukraine, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Germany, and east coast state side
dealing w/ Private companies, & US & Foreign governments.

Hope this helps,
Matt

it before the 507 came out and it worked fine. I also used transcenders and
troytecs study guide. However, don't memorize them, use them as study
guides to dig back in your book. The exam requires some thinking and you
will have to know all of your stuff.. I believe the 2.0 doesn't have any
appletalk or x.25 stuff anymore.

RE: CCNA 2.0 details again.....

2000-07-25 Thread Ole Drews Jensen

I have taken and passed CCNA 2.0, but I have not tried the CCNA 1.0, so I
can't tell you the big difference. However, the only real thing I could see
that was different between Todd Lammle's old book for CCNA 1.0 and the
objectives for CCNA 2.0 were the switching topics: VLAN and STA/STP. I can
recommend Cisco Press' official ICND book for that. They have about 60 pages
telling you everything you need to know to pass that area of the new exam.

Good luck,

Ole

I haven't taken CCNA 2.0 either, but the new test is based on the
Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) class, which has more emphasis
on switching than the old Introduction to Cisco Router Configuration (ICRC)
class.

The new class also has an added chapter on ISDN configuration. You didn't
have to know ISDN for the old test. It appears that you do have to know it
for the new test.

From

If you studied 1.0 material, then go for 1.0. But otherwise I would go
for 2.0. I would argue that someone who studied 2.0 CCNA is probably
better prepared for 2.0 CCNP..there are obviously newer things on 2.0
CCNA that they go into more detail with on 2.0 CCNP and weren't even on
1.0 CCNA.

timelimit of 105 minutes and the Score Report says Passing Score 822

I'm using 'Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices" edited by Steve McQuerry

communications kwnoledge I think It will be enough (I tell you after te

CCNA 2.0 questions

2000-07-16 Thread Daniel Ji

hello everybody
I want to take CCNA 2.0 exam soon but I don't know if I have study
enough...
I only read CCNA Certification Guide for version 1 from Cisco Press. And I
also did some practice exams from Boson Software... Are those materials
good enough to pass CCNA 2.0 ?
In particular, does the exam contain any OSPF, EIGRP and ATM questions ?
And what sort of subject should I focus on for the exam ?

Thank you in advance for the help...

Daniel

Re: CCNA 2.0 Cert.

2000-07-09 Thread Bharat Suneja

No, you don't have to take CCNA 2.0, and NO, you do not get any NEW
certificates if you clear 2.0. As far as Cisco is concerned, there are no
differences between 1.0 & 2.0 CCNAs - they all get the same CCNA certificate
and will have to recertify in 2 years.

If you are already a CCNA, taking the CCNA 2.0 (640-507) will not get you
ANOTHER CCNA certificate, imho.

Correct me if I'm wrong :-)
