Are you sure about this I can't find anything on CCO where these modules are not supported on the 4000 I also know someone right now who has 2 of the NP 4T modules in a 4000M and using it as a frame switch for his lab. -Original Message- From: J.D. RE: Home lab setup FRAME SWITCH [7:58204]
Elijah, I use a 2521 as a frame switch in my home lab and that is enough for me. Keep in mind that it only has four serial interfaces, so if you want to do more frame connections, you will need the 2522 or 2523 which have ten serial interfaces. You have more routers in your lab than I do. I only have six routers (not including the 2521). So, the 2521 works well for the number of routers I have. Re: Frame Switch Lab [7:29989]
If you have the interfaces available, definitely use it for both. There's no reason not to, and it allows you to have an additional layer 3 device in your scenarios. Frame Switch Lab [7:29989]
Im setting up a Cisco lab at home, I've decided to use a 2610 as a frame-relay switch, my question is should I use the router as layer 2 device exclusively or should I use it as Layer 3 and 2 device? The reason why I asked is I got two routers to talk to each other through the 2610 using it exclusively as a frame-relay switch, however i work for a CLEC and they also are using a 7206 to run as a frame-relay on some interfaces but they obviously using it as layer 2 and layer 3. Hey guys, I am setting up a lab with:- HeadQ= DLCI 101 router A = DLCI 102 router B = DLCI 103 router C = DLCI 104 The switch interfaces are s0, s1, s2, and s3. My configuration for the switch is as follows:- Frame-Switch# frame-relay switching int S0 no ip address encapsulation frame-relay clockrate 64000 frame-relay lmi-type ansi frame-relay intf-type dce frame-relay route 101 int s3 102 int s1 no ip address encapsulation frame-relay clockrate 64000 frame-relay lmi-type ansi frame-relay intf-type dce frame-relay route 104 int s2 103 int s2 no ip address encapsulation frame-relay clockrate 64000 frame-relay lmi-type ansi frame-relay intf-type dce frame-relay route 103 int s1 104 int s3 no ip address encapsulation frame-relay clockrate 64000 frame-relay lmi-type ansi frame-relay intf-type dce frame-relay route 102 int s0 101 Am I on the the right track or am I missing a few route statement. RE: 1600's - Using to make a Frame Switch [7:4643]
Hi Chris, What I am about to do is to add a T-1 wic to the 1600 and see if I can make a frame switch and connect it to another 1602 and a 2610. The config that I used if from the TAC website(- my own ip's) and it is only b/w the 2 1602 routers, which is different than configuring it on a 2501 switch which is b/w 3 routers. I'll let you know how that goes. But here is the config for the 2 1602's: Router 1: #conf t #int s0 #no ip address #encap frame-relay #clock rate 64000 #no keepalive #exit #int s0.1 point-to-point #ip addr 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0 #frame-relay interface-dlci 100 broadcast *** I have the clock source internal configured on this guy *** Router 2: #conf t #frame-relay switching # int s0 #no ip address #encap frame-relay #no keepalive #frame-relay intf-type dce #exit #int s0.1 point-to-point #ip addr 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0 #frame-relay interface-dlci 100 broadcast *** I have the clock source line configured on this guy *** Both routers have the 56kbps wic card connected via a console cable. The only command that does not work is the sh frame lmi (obviously becoz' of the no keep command) All the other commands viz. sh frame pvc, sh frame map etc work. Good luck. Re: 1600's - Using to make a Frame Switch [7:4643]
Well, after spending some time once again on CCO, this time using TAC's help, I finally figured out how to configure a 1602 router as a frame-relay switch and connect another router to it. It's actally very simple with one side R-1 providing the clock(56000) and the other side R-2 configured with the frame-relay switching command. Both routers are configured with s0.1 point-to-point subif and an ip address, a common dlci specified for both and only on R-2 the frame-relay intf-type dce command configured. It works!! Now the next step is to install another 56kbps wic on one and configure it to route frame packets b/w 2 dlci's. It should be the same as for the 2501, I figure. Also figured out that the frame-relay intf-type and the frame-relay route commands can actually be configured on the routers. Thanks, Phil once again for your help. Kind regards, Niraj I guess this helps the other gentleman who needed to know this. >From: "Circusnuts" >Reply-To: "Circusnuts" >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: 1600's - Using to make a Frame Switch [7:4643] >Date: Wed, 16 May 2001 19:38:44 -0400 > >Might not be possible... Might not be possible... I checked the CCO & I don't see an Enterprise model IOS (but I did notice 12.2 is out :o) Do you have a CCO login ??? You could try Open Forum. Hi Phil, It's you to the rescue again. :-) But unfortunately, it will not let me type the frame-relay intf-type dce and the frame-relay route 100. commands. Is there something that I have to do on the 1602 for this?(Since it has a 56kbps wic with a built-in csu/dsu). I scoured the CCO with no luck. Re: 1600's - Using to make a Frame Switch [7:4643]
Hi Gary, Actually, I had the same question but got no reply from anyone. So far, I have been using a 2501 as a frame relay switch. I would like to use the 1600 but it just does not take the frame-relay route and the frame-relay intf-type dce commands. I tried the cisco web-site but no luck. Actually, here is my question that I posted yesterday: Is it possible to configure a 1602 as a frame-relay swich like a 2501? If a 1602 has 2 56kbps wic cards, can you connect another 2 1602's to this and setup frame relay? I see that the 1602 takes the frame-relay switching command and also encap frame-relay, frame-relay lmi-type.. commands. How do I specify the frame-relay intf-type dce and the frame-relay route 100 serial 1 101...commands? Please let me know if you get any replies. Thank you. Basic router question (frame switch)
Anyone have any problems with a 4500 retaining router configs using 11.2 or 12.0.7 IOS? I initially was trying to set up a simple frame relay switch and entered 'frame-relay lmi-type ansi' which worked intially. However when I run a 'sh conf' the commands are not there. Has anybody got an AGS+ that would work as a Frame Switch (CSC/4, at least 4 serial ports) that they would be willing to sell me? I'm doing the Ebay thing, but not had any luck so far. High speed usually means that it can goto 4Mbps I believe. Cisco usually denotes a modular high speed interface with "T", as in like a NP-2T, or a NM-4T. Frame Switch
I have a 2523 in my lab configured as a Frame Relay Switch. All the serial ports are acting as DCE providing clocking to the routers. Initially, all clock rates were set to 64000 but I changed it to 100 ... for some reason, only serial0 and serial1 accepted the new clockrate speed f 100 ... when i tried to enter the clock rate command on the others it says ... %Error: Unsupported clock rate for this interface . When I do a show interfaces the output for serial0 and serial 1 ... the second line of the output says Hardware is HD64570 . for all the other serial interfaces . the second line of the output says Hardware is CD2430 in sync mode . The keywords being "in sync mode" ... I am guessing that this might be a reason I cannot set the clock rate on the other serial interfaces at 100 Any ideas from anyone as to what is happening and why it is like that? Hi All, Just a quick note to let everyone(those interested) know that the "Cisco Secure VPN" results have been posted a the tracking site. With the newly posted format of the MCNS as of Jan 01, these Channel Partner exams will serve a purpose in the long run. By the way I passed, I'll have to get the slyvan report to see how this exam was broken down. Lots, and lots of Cisco specific VPN stuff on this exam..along with a mix of IPSEC and general VPN theory. Nigel. _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. From what I could see, Frame Relay switching was introduced in 11.2, and AGS+ will only goto 11.0. I just double checked CCO. Release notes for 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and 11.0. None of them support Frame Relay switching.. But I would be very interested in doing FR switching on an AGS+, so if you can point me to something that shows I can do this, please, that would make my day (And save me some money!!) Re: AGS+ as frame switch
The AGS is perfect for the Frame-Switch role. For the money you can't beat it. If you ever get a chance to check out CCIE Bootcamps, they use this router in their dial-in lab racks. 10.0 & up support DLSW, Frame-Relay Switching, & X.25. This router is best used as the Telco cloud, in a lab setting. If you have any further questions, contact me offline. I don't fuss with AGS's much anymore, but that's how I got into this business... AGS+ as frame switch
Can the AGS+ run as a frame-switch? I mean does the IOS's that run on it support frame relay switching? Would make a real nice cheap frame switch if it did. If it does, then any caveats of using an AGS+ vs. say a 2520 etc? Brian --- Brian Feeny, CCNP, CCDP [EMAIL PROTECTED] Network Administrator ShreveNet Inc. Re: Frame Switch
Using a router with two serial interfaces is easy to set up as a frame-switch. You have all of the equipment, just need to hook the dce end of two cables to one router (the one you want to use as your frame-relay switch -1 on each serial int) and the other ends (dte) to one router each. (total of three routers). Now...the fun partfigure out how to configure them - this is where the real learning begins. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/125/12.html HTH Roman At 05:25 PM 8/1/00 -0500, you wrote: How can I setup a 2521 as a frame switch?
