Bug#508971: gdm: fails when a user has logged out and as other are still connected

appears with the nvidia non-free driver (173.14.09-5).
However, trying to restart the X server with CTRL+ALT+Backspace has no
 effect.
Also, I recently noticed that the problem only appears when the user
that had first logged-in disconnects. After that, the other user can log
in through the gdm screen but then, another password window (the one
which appears when the screen is locked) appears along with a system bip.

This is of course expected if the other user is already connected: her
session will be re-used instead of starting a new one. Where’s the bug
here?

Bug#512803: Why is su preserving the environment?

Bug#512825: apticron: Please document value to the current APT with its own cron job.

2009-01-24 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: apticron
Version: 1.1.26
Severity: normal

First some reminder:

1) I see this package has been updated with different package
description at this stage of release. The content you added is best
suited in README.Debian. This may caused translation mismatch issue for
the package description.

2) To get this released for lenny, you need to write to
debian-rele...@lists.debian.org with please unblock ... mail with
required information.

Now to the bug report.

I think this package should describe its value clearly to the user for
the current APT system. Let's look into situation.

It seems to me, this apticron package is a quick fix to the current apt
feature which seems to lack capability to send mail for prompting users
to install packages when it is configured to do download only.

Please note, APT package since 0.5.28 Ubuntu hoary and 0.5.29 Debian
unstable (Sat, 13 Nov 2004) has its own script /etc/cron.daily/apt,
which can do:
 * fancy auto-clean with rule
 * check and download upgradable packages automatically
 * automatic unattended upgrade
+ need to install unattended-upgrades package
+ aimed for security upgrade and have its blacklist capability
+ mail capability (The extent of this, i do not know for sure?)

These can be enabled via apt configuration variables (usually stored in
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02backup and 50unattended-upgrades).

Since this is enhancement script to apt, this should clearly document
what part of apt this package will enhance etc. Also recommending to
install cron-apt without mentioning apt's own capability is not kind to
the user. We as users wonder why? When it is written in package
description, this impact is big.

Let's compare these:

   apt's cron script cron-apt script

enable by adding parameter manually installing to cron

download only shell script(main)shell script

auto upgrade python script shell script
   complicated checkssimple apt-get -y upgrade

Except for cron-apt script depending on python for auto-upgrade, I see
no reason to recommend it over apt. At least both methods should be
mentioned.

Although I have no relation with Ubuntu, considering Ubuntu uses this
apt's feature extensively, I think this is quite stable part of code.

I am not very familiar with the whole picture. So I think further study
might be needed to be correct.

I hope to see more balanced documentation for what to do in
README.Debian might be useful to everyone.

(Also, adding patch to apt itself to do what apticron does might benefit
more people.)

Osamu

Steps to create complete crash of X-window:

1. Create a naphthalene by annealing two benzene rings together. Go
horizontally to do this. After this, part of the 2nd ring will be left
selected (C1 through C4 in its numbering system).

2. Object Configuration, and choose Show atom names.

3. Select the other ring's far bond (C6 and C7).

4. Object Configuration causes complete crash of X window with no error

Working on recording similar steps which cause a freeze in bkchem's

Bug#500331: totem-xine with dvb-t jups unwanted automaticly to next channel

 should resume the paused channel.

As requested by upstream, could you try with totem 2.24 which is now
sitting in experimental?

Bug#512711: xserver-xorg-core: All keypresses repeated roughly three times each, makes login impossible

2009-01-24 Thread Brice Goglin
Nathan Davidson wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg-core
 Version: 2:1.5.3-1
 Severity: important

Since upgrading to the Xorg in Experimental, any single keypress within
an X session results in three of the corresponding characters appearing
on the screen. For example, when I try to run xev to find out what's
going on, what appears on the screen is xxxeeevvv. After the initial
three characters have appeared, however, auto-repeat seems to kick in as
normal, and some exacting use of the auto-repeat timing and the
backspace key can allow a marginal amount of work to get done.

As expected, xev shows three separate KeyPress and KeyRelease events
corresponding to each physical keypress (and, of course, release).

I just got the same problem when upgrading to xserver-xorg-core 1.6rc1
and fixed it by adding
Option AutoAddDevices off
to Section ServerFlags.

Somehow, input-hotplug decided to add the keyboard twice (see the end of
your log), so you get your configured keyboard plus these two auto-added
ones. That's why each keypress is reported three times.

Brice, who should learn how to use input-hotplug one day or another

su - is actually pruning the environment as it starts a login shell.
This should be slightly orthogonal to preserving the environment.
Actually, su -p - *does* preserve it. When not starting a login shell,
the -p option does actually nothing (and the documentation doesn’t
mention this).

I think Steve has a point, and as he explains, this is not a big
security issue; however it is breaking the expectations you have when
logging as another user. For example, it is not expected that starting
an application as the other user will re-use the running one, and it is
not expected that accessing the GNOME keyring will show the passwords of
the original user.

I don’t think anything relevant has changed. When you open

I intend to orphan the pas2html package (lost interest).

The package description is:
The pas2html program is a syntax highlighter for Pas source code that
produces a highlighted html file as output. The output can be read by
any graphical WWW-Browser. If the browser understands the tags to
change font colors (as Netscape does) the output will look like
highlighted by emacs. Otherwise it will not look so nice, but
 readability is increased too.

Bug#512371: Please allow biofox 1.1.5-1 in Lenny.

2009-01-24 Thread Charles Plessy
Dear release team,

bioFOX 1.1.4 was so old that it did not work with Firefox 3. I updated it to
1.1.5 in Sid; we missed this release as Upstream changed the location of its
uploads.

bioFOX is a mozilla extension that contains most of its files in a .jar, so a
debdiff would not be very informative. Nevertheless, Nelson A. de Oliveira
prepared a diff of the chrome directory after the .jar file is unzipped:

http://people.debian.org/~naoliv/misc/debian-med/biofox_diff.txt

And here is the Debian changelog:

 Format: 1.8
 Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 15:36:22 +0900
 Source: biofox
 Binary: mozilla-biofox
 Architecture: source all
 Version: 1.1.5-1
 Distribution: unstable
 Urgency: high
 Maintainer: Debian-Med Packaging Team
 debian-med-packag...@lists.alioth.debian.org
 Changed-By: Charles Plessy ple...@debian.org
 Description:
mozilla-biofox - extension of bioinformatics tools to Iceape and Iceweasel
 browser
 Closes: 512371
 Changes:
  biofox (1.1.5-1) unstable; urgency=high
  .
* New upstream release, compatible with Firefox 3 (Closes: #512371).
* Updated debian/watch.
* Use Debhelper 7 (idebian/co{ntrol,mpat}.
* Depend on ${misc:Depends} (debian/control).
* Converted debian/copyright to machine-readable format.
* New homepage (debian/control).
* Updated to Policy 3.8.0:
  - added a get-orig-source target to debian/rules.
  - wrote a README.source file explaining that upstream sources are in Zip
format.
* The package now uses Upstream's biofox.jar instead of rebuilding it in
  debian/rules.

Since Upstream's changelog is Updated links and fixed bugs, since version
1.1.4 is useless in Lenny and since 1.1.5 works well (I tested), I recommend to
update Lenny's package from Sid's one despite the increase of version number.

Have a nice day,

Bug#512828: German translation of Selecting the kernel to install... not optimal

2009-01-24 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: base-installer
Severity: 1.98
Severity: minor

The following German translation in base-installer isn't ideal:

msgid Selecting the kernel to install...
msgstr Wählen Sie den zu installierenden Kernel ...

In most cases, d-i is automatically selecting the right kernel and no
user input is needed [*], so the please choose the German
translation uses isn't great. I suggest the indirect Wähle den
zu... or something like that.

I didn't check if other translations have the same problem. Maybe
some l10n expert could do that.

[*] And if user input is needed, another screen is shown which will
clearly say that the user has to choose a kernel.

Also, this worked at some point in the past, but it hasn't worked for
a while and I don't really remember what changed.

I don’t think anything relevant has changed. When you open
~/.local/share/Trash explicitly in nautilus, does it show up the files?
Also, are there any warnings from nautilus in ~/.xsession-errors?

Opening ~/.local/share/Trash in nautilus shows 2 subdirectories: files
with 997 items and info with 1241 items. No errors from nautilus in
~/.xsession-errors.

The oldest .trashinfo file in ~/.local/share/Trash/info is from June 27
2008, so whatever changed (maybe even upgrading nautilus) happened a
while ago.

I tried to strace nautilus to see there was a permission issue or
something, but I can't because of:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=511083

If you have any other suggestions for debugging this though, I'm open to
anything.

Bug#512831: coreutils: cp refuses to hardlink a specific file, with a strange error message

2009-01-24 Thread Marc SCHAEFER
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.3
Severity: important

Really funny things happening:

virtual:~# mount | grep /backup
/dev/sdc1 on /backup type ext3 (ro)
127.0.0.1:/backup/vz/104 on /var/lib/vz/root/104/backup type nfs
(ro,soft,nolock,port=2049,mountport=2049,noudp,tcp,addr=127.0.0.1)
virtual:~# uname -a
Linux virtual 2.6.18+openvz #1 SMP Sun Mar 23 19:15:17 CET 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux
mount /backup -o remount,rw; cp -al /backup/vz/104/backup.0
/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST; mount /backup -o remount,ro
cp: cannot create hard link
`/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260'

to
`/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260':

No such file or directory

Yes, that file is missing on the copy.
Thus I can hardlink it by hand:

virtual:~# mount /backup -o remount,rw; cp -al
/backup/vz/104/backup.0/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260

/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260;

mount /backup -o remount,ro

and this is reproductible *each time*. Note the bizarre error message
above (hardlinking over itself).

Do it once more:

virtual:~# mount /backup -o remount,rw; cp -al /backup/vz/104/backup.0
/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST2; mount /backup -o remount,ro
cp: cannot create hard link
`/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST2/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260'

to
`/backup/vz/104/backup.TEST2/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260':

No such file or directory

look at the file more carefully:

virtual:~# ls -lai
/backup/vz/104/backup.0/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260
14354482 -rw-rw-r-- 9 news news 1877 Jan 21 11:13
/backup/vz/104/backup.0/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260

virtual:~# lsattr
/backup/vz/104/backup.0/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260
--
/backup/vz/104/backup.0/scratch/news/articles/fr/comp/developpement/agl/windev/63260

If I remove that file and start the cp -al over to a new destination,
the error disappears.

*** WARNING: ucf was run from a maintainer script that uses debconf, but

I assume the /usr/bin/ucf: line 872: db_fset: command not found

There is no way to view an email message using the Roundcube webmail

(http://trac.roundcube.net/ticket/1484680) has been created to add a
button to the standard interface allowing an email to be opened by
selecting it and then clicking the button once, much the same way that
 one deletes a message.

Bug#499191: Possible security issues

2009-01-24 Thread Alexander Prinsier
Not so. But this would mean that in many setups, any user would be
allowed to execute any root-owned program under the document root
that has mode +x as any _other_ user (above uid 100). This is
something that no admin would expect. The restriction that suexec can
only be executed by apache can often be circumvented. E.g. if user
are allowed to create php scripts in ~/public_html.

If a user is allowed to create a php script that will be executed as
www-data, he can just go read everyone else's data (like a config.php
which includes passwords to databases etc), because everyone else's data
must be readable by www-data to get served by apache in this setup.

Because of that, I don't think there are many setups allowing script
execution as www-data, but yes, in such a case there is a side-effect
with my suggestion, that most admins would not suspect.

But I'm targeting another audience here :) One where www-data is a
privileged user (has read access to everyone's data), and script
execution is only allowed as the user itself using suexec.

To circumvent the issue totally, I could modify it so that if the cmd is
inside the docroot, then the owner of the cmd must be the target user.
If the cmd is inside a cgi-docroot, then the owner must be root. (It's
up to the admin to make these docroot's non overlapping :)).

Alexander

overkilling. Nevertheless, I've no clue about how autoconf extensions
should be packaged, and my naive attempts to find similar packages in

FWIW in Fedora I just packaged the file in
/usr/share/ocaml-autoconf/ocaml.m4, and the man page tells people to
manually copy this file into their project.

This is analogous to how the other autotools work -- eg. look at
/usr/share/*/*.m4 and /usr/share/*/*/*.m4.

Bug#512838: Debian installer lenny RC

2009-01-24 Thread mmc...@tiscali.it
Package: debian-installer
Version: lenny beta 2

Ho scaricato la
seguente iso:

debian-testing-amd64-businesscard.iso
e fatto
l'installazione tipo expert.

fa il boot correttamente, riconosce
l'hardware correttamente (ho un DELL latitude D630), partizioni il
disco nella seguente maniera:
100 mb /boot ReiserFS
50Gb LVM
   -
40 Gb / ReiserFS dentro lvm
niente swap

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported
executable format.

O manca qualcosa nel grub.conf oppure se uno
sceglie quel tipo di kernel si dovrebbe forzare l'installazione dei
pacchetti xen associati.

saluti

Bug#512839: xine-ui: xdg-screensaver broke XVDR plugin

2009-01-24 Thread Daniel
Package: xine-ui
Version: 0.99.5+cvs20070914-2.1~lenny1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The last patch of xine-ui
Change screensaver control code to use xdg-screensaver instead of
faking keystrokes
seems to have broken VDR playback via XVDR plugin. On channel change,
playback stops with

audio_alsa_out: snd_pcm_open() von default schlug fehl: Das Gerät oder die
Resso
urce ist belegt
audio_alsa_out: Überprüfen Sie, ob ein anderen Programm PCM bereits benutzt

audio_out: open failed!

which means that audio cannot be re-opened.
If I now grep through /proc/*/fd to see which program may (still) sit on
an audio file handle, it turns out to be xdg-screensaver.

thinkpad:/home/dd# ls -l /proc/*/fd |grep pcm
lrwx-- 1 dd dd 64 24. Jan 12:14 10 - /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
lrwx-- 1 dd dd 64 24. Jan 12:14 10 - /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
thinkpad:/home/dd# ls -l /proc/*/fd |less (searched here for pcm in less)
thinkpad:/home/dd# ps ax | grep 11900
11900 ?S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver suspend 69206991
12025 pts/1R+ 0:00 grep 11900

It looks very much as if someone had forked xine to then exec xdg-screensaver
without closing all file handles before which leads to xdg-screensaver
sitting on the audio file handles.

Bug#509292: rsyslog: random crashes with remote logging

2009-01-24 Thread Juha Koho

back to a state where we can (somewhat) reliably reproduce the bug. I
think we should see at least 3 aborts in a row before we do any changes.
The reason is that we otherwise do not know if the config changed caused
the situation to improve or that was just a random non-abort. That's the
issue I have run into all time so far...

Hello all,

now this bug gets interesting... It has been over a week now since I
reverted back to the original rsyslog version with remote logging
activated and configuration file as it was originally when I had these
crashes. Well... now there has been no problems although originally I
had these crashes almost once a day. So currently I have been unable
to reproduce this bug anymore.

Could this bug had been caused by a bug in a library that rsyslog uses
that would have been updated in the past week or so?

Regards,
Juha

If I look at #374644, I find

+if(fork() == 0) {
+  execvp(args[0], args);
+  _exit(0);
 }

which confirms my assumption of unproper forking.

If I manually kill all xdg-screensaver instances, I can successfully
reopen the XVDR plugin.
If I change the TV channel, playback again breaks, again with
xdg-screensaver instances running and blocking the audio file handles
(three of them actually.)

I hope this is sufficient information to fix this bug.

Regards,
Daniel

Bug#509819: apt-xapian-index: Error during first index update

After that the index seems to be created successfully, the index works
 correctly.

What is happening is this:

 - you install apt-xapian-index, and postinst runs an update
 - you then run an update by hand, and since it's version 0.13, it's not
very good at detecting that another update is running
 - the first update finishes before the second, notices another index
left around, thinks that it's an old index, and removes it
 - the second update complains that a file is missing, and aborts;
however, the first update gave you a working index, so everything is
   fine.

Solution: upgrade to version 0.15. How come you have 0.13 still around?
OMG, it's the one for lenny. I'll see if I manage to get the new one
in, which fixes this problem.

Dear Lintian maintainers and Perl team,

Dh-make-perl adds libmodule-build-perl to Build-Depends, but lintian complains:

  I: libbio-primerdesigner-perl source: build-depends-without-arch-dep
libmodule-build-perl

Apparently, it was decided in #421549 that it was a false positive as
libmodule-build-perl is used when the clean target is called, this is why I
reopen this bug.

Have a nice week-end,

On a German keyboard the key right of the 0 key is used for three symbols:
unmodified it's 'ß', with shift it's '?', and with 'Alt Gr' (the right
Alt key on a German keyboard) it's '\'. Unfortunately typing Alt Gr-ß
prints the 'ß' characters on a remote Windows 2000 server (running TightVNC)
not the (rather important) '\' key. Other VNC clients (like TightVNC or
 XVNC 4) work fine.

So, this was a gtk-vnc bug fixed upstream in 0.3.8, commit 247:974dbf1cc505

Reassigning and closing.

Bug#512840: keychain: prints tput errors when stdout is not a tty

2009-01-24 Thread Colin Watson
Package: keychain
Version: 2.6.8-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I run eval `keychain --eval --quiet --inherit any --quick` from my
shell startup scripts. When stdout is not a tty (for example, when I ssh
into this machine with a single command, rather than in such a way as to
get an interactive shell), the following is printed on stderr:

tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified
tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified
tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified
tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified
tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified

keychain does have the following code:

  # Don't use color if there's no terminal on stdout
  if [ -n $OFF ]; then
tty 1 /dev/null 21 || unset BLUE CYAN GREEN OFF RED
  fi

However, right at the top of the script, well before this check, it
runs:

  type tput /dev/null 2/dev/null
  {
  BLUE=$(tput setaf 4)
  CYAN=$(tput setaf 6)
  GREEN=$(tput setaf 2)
  RED=$(tput setaf 1)
  OFF=$(tput sgr0)
  }

It's this block that produces the errors.

To start with, this is clearly not what the author meant; { list; } just
means to execute the list in the current shell environment, which is a
no-op in this context, and the 'type' command does nothing. The author
appears to have been thinking in some different language and managed to
render it into valid but incorrect shell. As far as I can divine the
intent, this should have read:

if type tput /dev/null 2/dev/null; then
  BLUE=$(tput setaf 4)
  CYAN=$(tput setaf 6)
  GREEN=$(tput setaf 2)
  RED=$(tput setaf 1)
  OFF=$(tput sgr0)
  fi

In order to fix this bug, it should further be changed as expressed in
the following patch:

Bug#512843: smb.conf.5: warning: `/configure' not defined

2009-01-24 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: samba
Version: 2:3.2.5-4
Severity: minor
Tags: patch upstream

We have a lintian warning about this:

bubu...@mykerinos:~/tmp LANG=C man --warnings -l smb.conf.5 /dev/null
standard input:7796: warning: /configure' not defined

The consequence is that the man page is truncated in the set quota command
section.

The attached patch fixes this though it is still a crude way to fix the
problem. Moreover, that problem should be fixed in the original XML files.

Rainer suspected atomic operations to be the root cause. This would mean a
problem in GCC at compile time.
rsyslog basically depends on zlib1g and libc6. I don't expect zlib1g to have any
influence, so you might wanna check if libc6 has been updated on you system.

Bug#512623: Mysql fails with illegal instruction error on a 486 (was: mysql: does not start (always crashes))

2009-01-24 Thread peter green

found 512623 5.0.32-7etch8
retitle 512623 Mysql fails with illegal instruction error on a 486
thanks

model name : 486
That probablly explains it, I suspect mysqls build process is
incorrectly building binaries that will only work on a pentium or
higher. Some upstream build systems have a nasty habbit of overriding
distro compiler configurations and doing things there own way and there
are so few 486 users left this often doesn't get spotted until it's too
late.

You might want to try a local rebuild to see if that builds a binary
that will run on your system.

Given the point that etch is at in it's release cycle I think this is
very unlikely to be fixed in etch. If you plan to continue using debian
on 486 based machines I would suggest you start testing lenny on one now
looking out for this bug and similar ones before it becomes stable and
therefore too late for anything much to get done about such issues.

I'm sorry, I thought all this information would be provided by Report
Bug, which I used to

file this bug report.
reportbug normally does provide that information, maybe there was
something odd in your setup.

Bug#512845: libglib2-ruby1.8: dependency problem: mkmf-gnome2.rb requires mkmf.rb (from ruby-dev)

Using /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mkmf-gnome2.rb from the libglib2-ruby1.8 package

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mkmf-gnome2.rb:12

unless the package ruby1.8-dev, which provides the required mkmf.rb
file, is already installed.

Tagged 'important' because people not familiar with ruby installing ruby
software via a 'ruby extconf.rb' mechanism might fail to understand why
their ruby installation is broken.

suggested patch:
package libglib2-ruby1.8 should include ruby1.8-dev as
an install dependency.
[note: this patch is just a suggestion, i am totally unfamiliar with
ruby, and Debian practices; maybe it is considered better to move
mkmf.rb to another package instead of creating a dependency of a non-dev
package on a -dev package, or whatever]

Bug#512832: [Pkg-samba-maint] setup problem: Setting up samba-common (2:3.2.5-4)

See #512832.

I suspect something changed in ucf as this is really weird to see this
popping up now whicle the ucf support is in the samba packages for months.

Leaving this up to Steve as he was the one adding ucf support in our
maintainer scripts.

Bug#508971: gdm: fails when a user has logged out and as other are still connected

2009-01-24 Thread Denis Laxalde

Josselin Mouette a écrit :

Le vendredi 23 janvier 2009 à 21:17 -0500, Denis Laxalde a écrit :
Also, I recently noticed that the problem only appears when the user
that had first logged-in disconnects. After that, the other user can log
in through the gdm screen but then, another password window (the one
which appears when the screen is locked) appears along with a system bip.

This is of course expected if the other user is already connected: her
session will be re-used instead of starting a new one. Where’s the bug
here?

Actually, asking the password twice (in gdm and in the lock-screen
window) seems to be the normal behavior and, although I don't see the
interest of this, the bug is indeed not there. The bug appears only when
the first user disconnects. I noticed that a gdmgreeter process appears
then.

He was under the impression that installing linux-image-2.6-xen-amd64 he would

He also suggests to add a proper description to all kernel versions.

Bug#512810: bug also in v. 2.7.0-22 other issues

2009-01-24 Thread Javier Fernandez-Sanguino
2009/1/24 prosoluti...@gmx.net:
I also want to point out one more thing that absolutely blows my mind: in
 /etc/default/snort is a line:

 PARAMS=-m 027 -D -d
Is this correct? Why are the daemon parameters in this file?

Yes. It is correct and, actually, standard in Debian packages. Take a
look at /etc/default/exim4 or /etc/default/ntp, for example. In order
to prevent users from modifying the init.d scripts directly only for
parameter tweaking (which would produce issues when upgrading packages
and the init.d changes) the parameters are moved over to a
/etc/default file

Getting back to /etc/snort/snort.debian.conf, I read Javier's advice to one
user in a bug response regarding the ALLOW_UNAVAILABLE option mentioned
earlier, that the user should not edit snort.debian.conf manually? What is
this file doing there at all then? This totally does not make sense.
Aren't there Debian policy guidelines against this kind of thing? Can a
maintainer totally mince a package like this to the point where it doesn't
 make sense?

/etc/snort/snort.debian.conf, just like many other configuration
files, is handled by Debian's configuration management system Debconf.
In order to vary those contents you are supposed, as explained in the
file, to run dpkg-reconfigure snort

This certainly looks like a problem in your debconf priority settings.
You are probably running your debconf settings in a 'high' value. What
value have you set there?

If your default value is 'high' (certainly, not a recommended setting)
then run 'dpkg-reconfigure -pmedium snort'. (or -plow) The debconf
prompts will guide you on how to configure Snort to have it up and
running in no time.

Regards

Javier

Bug#512828: German translation of Selecting the kernel to install... not optimal

2009-01-24 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Martin Michlmayr (t...@cyrius.com):

At least in languages I can read and roughly understand, translations
seem correct. So the problem is very likely to be isolated to German.

German team, can you fix this in D-I trunk? When done, please add the
correct bug closure in base-installer/debian/changelog

Bug#512844: ffmpeg-debian breaks binary compatibility

2009-01-24 Thread Paul Gevers
Severity: normal
Thanks

The problem is that you are using mplayer from unstable, with ffmpeg
from experimental. The experimental version of ffmpeg-debian creates
libavcodec52, where your mplayer should depend on if you want to use it.
But the ffmpeg in unstable builds/needs libavcodec51, so that is why
mplayer depends on it. You can at this moment not mix ffmpeg from
experimental with mplayer from unstable.

Maybe ffmpeg should conflict with old versions of the libraries, ie
Conflicts libavcodec51, libavcodec-unstripped-51 etc...

If you choose to enable the dependency-based boot sequence the scripts in /

comment headers (or defaults where these are not present). All S* symlinks

they are used (with the argument 'stop') matches their names. The change
will only be done after it is verified that it is safe to convert. Disabling

Bug#512861: traverso: Needs rebuild to depend on librasqal1

2009-01-24 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Package: traverso
Version: 0.42.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi Gürkan

Please first note, I set the Severity to grave since the package is
not installable on sid, please downgrade if this is not right yet.

The package traverso fails to install on sid due the transition of
librasqal0 - librasqal1

Only a rebuild is needed to solve this. I cannot upload to rebuild
since I'm not a DD. So probably the Serverity is not appropriate,
since after a rebuild it will be installable again.

Kind regards
Salvatore

Bug#512848: more info about this misdocumentation

2009-01-24 Thread Oz Nahum
Ok, I have finally managed to run moinmoin.
The readme file should instruct to put this in
/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default:
 Alias /moin_static171/ /usr/share/moin/htdocs/
ScriptAlias /mywiki /usr/share/moin/server/moin.cgi
 alias /wiki /usr/share/moin/htdocs
 Directory /usr/share/moin/htdocs
 Order allow,deny
 allow from all

instead of this:
VirtualHost *
ServerName wiki.example.org
DocumentRoot /var/www/mywiki/
Alias /moin_static171/ /usr/share/moin/htdocs/
ScriptAlias /MyWiki /var/www/mywiki/moin.cgi
/VirtualHost

I am not an APACHE master, so maybe there's a better solution, but this
finally worked for me...

I installed this package but did not have pidgin installed. Hence,
I could not use the package until I installed pidgin. This should

This plugin is for both Pidgin and libpurple messengers (such as
finch, adium, etc).

Ah -- I was not aware of that. Now I understand the lack of
dependencies.

It does depend on libpurple, so something does get pulled in.

Would it make any sense to have a pidgin-facebookchat package
that depends on pidgin, a finch-facebookchat package that depends
on finch, and so on? Or would that just add mindless clutter?

For a simple .so file, I think that that would would add the later.
But for the next upload I'll add finch and pidgin to suggests so the
user knows what to pull in as well.

Jonathan

That works for me. Thanks for the quick response.

Uptimed will update its database every n seconds so that the uptime doesn't

Bug#506247: [boinc-client] boinc-client could also suggests cpulimit

2009-01-24 Thread Frank S. Thomas
On Wednesday 19 November 2008 21:29:10 clement R. wrote:
Maybe boinc-client could suggests cpulimit in addition of schedtool.

Why?

boinc-client suggests schedtool because its init script can make use of it.
How does cpulimit enhances boinc-client's usefulness? How are they related?

Cheers
Frank
