Yes, as soon as one of the products in Beta become production, I will be
looking into it to change from SpamReview, and those of us that do use it
know there are a few minor problems with it along with the desire for
additional features.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time right now to participate in a beta.

We still use it, but are developing a replacement. It has trouble parsing

do. It will work fine with 8.22.

Looks good. At first glance, one thing that would prevent me from
switching is that I would have to go through each message individually.
With SpamReview I can scan the top list showing the important info (to,
from, subject, domain) to eliminate 90% of the work. Then I only have
to review messages that are questionable.

   Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview / HoldAnalyzer

   Hi All -

I'm trying to find a utility that will let me analyze
  Declude's hold
directory (well, sub-directories now) and ultimately
  deliver and held
mail. From reviewing the archives, it looks like SpamReview and
HoldAnalyzer are the two most frequently discussed
  programs, but I'm
   having issues with both:

   SpamReview
All of the links to SpamReview get redirected to the main page for
slsoft.com. I did manage to get a copy of this app installed by
downloading from declude.com, but it doesn't seem to
  actually see any
held mail. I'm not sure if I need to move the mail that's in each
subdirectory (eg 05Dec2005) into a particular directory so that
SpamReview will see the messages. If this is the case, I
  guess I can
live with it but it does seem a bit clunky, since my goal is to
eventually turn this over to this particular customer's
  administrative
assistant so she can just confirm that no legit mail is being held.

Is this tool still a valid tool to use? The fact that all external
links to the tool get redirected is somewhat concerning.

   HoldAnalyzer
I got this working, but it seems more like a reporting tool, rather
than a reviewing and requeuing tool. One thing I seem to
  be missing,
though, is how the whole DLA.MSI installer plays into
  things. I think
it's supposed to setup some IIS stuff (given the reference
  to 'virtual
directory' and port 80), but it doesn't seem to be creating
  a virtual
directory on any sites in IIS.

If anyone has any insight into what I'm doing wrong, it
  would be much
appreciated. I think I just need a nudge in the right direction.

   Thanks!

Hi Gary,

Sure. Support for SmarterMail will be shortly after IMail... probably late
January.

Will your replacement also work with SmarterMail? I believe the only
difference between IMail and SmarterMail in this case is how they name their
files.

 Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview / HoldAnalyzer

 Hi All -

I'm trying to find a utility that will let me analyze Declude's hold
directory (well, sub-directories now) and ultimately deliver and held
mail. From reviewing the archives, it looks like SpamReview and
HoldAnalyzer are the two most frequently discussed programs, but I'm
 having issues with both:

 SpamReview
All of the links to SpamReview get redirected to the main page for
slsoft.com. I did manage to get a copy of this app installed by
downloading from declude.com, but it doesn't seem to actually see any
held mail. I'm not sure if I need to move the mail that's in each
subdirectory (eg 05Dec2005) into a particular directory so that
SpamReview will see the messages. If this is the case, I guess I can
live with it but it does seem a bit clunky, since my goal is to
eventually turn this over to this particular customer's administrative
assistant so she can just confirm that no legit mail is being held.

Is this tool still a valid tool to use? The fact that all external
links to the tool get redirected is somewhat concerning.

 HoldAnalyzer
I got this working, but it seems more like a reporting tool, rather than
a reviewing and requeuing tool. One thing I seem to be missing, though,
is how the whole DLA.MSI installer plays into things. I think it's
supposed to setup some IIS stuff (given the reference to 'virtual
directory' and port 80), but it doesn't seem to be creating a virtual
directory on any sites in IIS.

If anyone has any insight into what I'm doing wrong, it would be much
appreciated. I think I just need a nudge in the right direction.

 Thanks!

There is another issue with smarter mail Not just the file names. When
requeuing a smartermail message an X needs to be placed in front of the file

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview / HoldAnalyzer

2005-12-05 Thread Kevin Bilbee
I wrote the hold analyzer but it does not function with declude hold
messages being in different sub directories it only searches one directory.
The DLA.msi is a package installer for the web portion for the recovery of
messages.

I know it looks like a reporting tool. Due to the confusion I have a new
version that is only for hold reporting and another for the rporting
portions. I just have not had time to upload it. I will see if I can get
time this week to do it.

I will email you when it is available.

to eventually turn this over to this particular customer's
administrative assistant so she can just confirm that no
 legit mail is being held.

Is this tool still a valid tool to use? The fact that all
external links to the tool get redirected is somewhat concerning.

 HoldAnalyzer
I got this working, but it seems more like a reporting tool,
rather than a reviewing and requeuing tool. One thing I seem
to be missing, though, is how the whole DLA.MSI installer
plays into things. I think it's supposed to setup some IIS
stuff (given the reference to 'virtual directory' and port
80), but it doesn't seem to be creating a virtual directory
 on any sites in IIS.

If anyone has any insight into what I'm doing wrong, it would
be much appreciated. I think I just need a nudge in the
 right direction.

 Thanks!

Will your replacement also work with SmarterMail? I believe the only
difference between IMail and SmarterMail in this case is how they name their

downloading from declude.com, but it doesn't seem to actually see any

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spamreview

2004-04-13 Thread Markus Gufler

It is a great program... I wish I had a VB program to do the work.

Same here. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the VB IDE.

But if someone is interested I've some feature requests:

1.) Option to keep copy of requeued messages in a separate folder for
statistical research.
What test's has caused FP's in the last days/weeks/months? What can we do to
avoid further false positives?
Not any operator reviewing the spam folder, is able to identify what has
caused the false positive or what can be done to avoid further FPs. Making a
copy of the FP the Declude-Admin can review this few files daily or weekly
and change something in his configuration.

2.) Context menu for marked keywords/phrases to easily add them to different
blacklist files.
For example in the spamreview options we link BL1, BL2, ... BL9 to different
text files.
Now if we find something that seems to bee a good indicator of spam just
mark this word/phrase, right click and choose the BL you want to add this as
a new line.

[Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview Black-listing White-listing Possible Feature

2002-12-27 Thread Roger Heath
Ok, I am now both black-listing and white-listing using a single
filter file in Declude. For example if a source is blacklisted this
can take the form of the following methods or commands examples:

MAILFROM 60 ENDSWITH greatdeal.net
HEADERS 60 CONTAINS somebaby.com
BODY 60 CONTAINS basherman

The weights are so high each mail gets deleted. Now I white-list using
'counter-weights':

REVDNS -100 ENDSWITH sportico.com
MAILFROM -100 ENDSWITH [EMAIL PROTECTED]
HEADERS -100 CONTAINS Yahoo! Alerts
SUBJECT -100 CONTAINS ActivatorMail Sign-up

To manage the above I have a WEIGHT 35 that DELETES 'black-listed'
weights...

Now that I know I can edit just one simple file, I am wishing
SpamReview could do this for me. I am not sure just how to pursue this
but for mailfrom info could be used initially. This means there would
be four buttons, for example:

Que and White-list Domain = adds MAILFROM -100 ENDSWITH @domain.com
Que and White-list Sender = adds MAILFROM -100 ENDSWITH [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Delete and Black-List Domain = adds MAILFROM 100 ENDSWITH @domain.com
Delete and Black-List Sender = adds MAILFROM 100 ENDSWITH [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Maybe Scott can recommend how to do this to be most efficient with
Declude testing of emails. Maybe a pull down menu would be good rather
than buttons, then many more parameters could exist in addition to
above four examples above? For example another method would be:

Delete Black-list REVDNS Domain = adds REVDNS 100 ENDSWITH domain.com
Delete White-list REBDNS Domain = adds REVDNS -100 ENDSWITH domain.com

I would find all this quite useful and I am wondering what others
might think. SpamReview could be pointed at a single filter.txt file
to edit then edit it...

Roger,

Using standard windows select capibilities you may select multiple entries
with the Shift and Ctrl keys or select all entries using Ctrl-A.

After selecting multiple entries you can use all the normal functions such
as Delete or Move just like you would use them on one selected entry.

Will this take care of your request or would the buttons be better?

Delete All and Exit - Deletes all entries then exits (deleting

This is really want is needed. This way one may inspect select

I would like the buttons actually... I am using the keyboard

delete all and exit..then this would delete all displayed entries
and all deleted entries in one click. Perahps the other should be
delete all then reload any new entries.. No highlighting would be

John,

I will look into this problem again.

I review and don't delete anything until all that is left in the list is
email to delete. This resolved my happy finger problem where I was delete
email by accident.

Regarding the Delete All button... If I add it, it will be optional. I am
concerned about space on the screen.

[Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview Update and From EMail Discussion

2002-09-18 Thread Tom Schwarz

To SpamReview Users,

v1.0.47 is now available. If you are already using v1.0.45 just click on
File/Check for Program Updates to download the new version.

Changes in this version.

SpamReview now extracts the From email address for the list from the Q
file if you have theShow Subject in List option selected in the Settings.

Added a new field in the Settings so you can configure a string to use when
trying to locate the From email address in the settings file. By default
X-Declude-Sender: is used since Declude already includes this in the
message if you have XSENDER ON set in the global.cfg file.

No changes were made to the Add to Kill except to use the new string to
locate the From email address.

--

I hope this helps resolve some of the problems, questions, and confusion.

--
A few weeks ago I started to update the web page. You can find help here.
http://www.slsoft.com/spamreviewhelp.htm

You can also find some of the following discussion regarding the From
EMail address in the QA section. Here it is in text form.

Q. Where does SpamReview get the From EMail address from?

A. The From EMail Address can come from a couple of different places
depending on how SpamReview is configured in the Settings. If you have
selected the Show Subject in List option then the From EMail Address
comes from the Q file using the Locate From EMail Address String: value
in the Settings. If the Show Subject in List option is not selected the
From EMail Address comes from the D file. In this case it may not be
right but it's the best we have since we have not read the Q file yet.

The Default Value for Locate From EMail Address String: is
X-Declude-Sender:. You must have XSENDER ON in the global.cfg file for
this to work. If you have setup your own custom method for doing this just
make sure the resulting string has one and only one space between your text
and the start of the email address. ex. MyFromEMailAddress:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Important Note: Regardless of the Settings, the From EMail address located
by using the Locate From EMail Address String: is used when adding to the
kill.lst file. There are no exceptions to this. If you have not properly
matched the SpamReview Settings with the Declude JunkMail settings you will
get a blank entry in the kill.lst file.

[Declude.JunkMail] Spamreview Software Request

2002-07-30 Thread Tom Schwarz

I have been looking back through my email trying to catch up and have
noticed a few messages related to spamreview. As the developer I have no
problem with this software being discussed here but would prefer all problem
related issues be directed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Not that it bothers me
for others to see the problems but I'm sure Scott would rather not clutter
this group with issues he has no control over. When I get busy I don't
check these messages every day. I check [EMAIL PROTECTED] every 5
minutes.

Several have reported problems and new feature possibilities. I have fixed
most the programs the same or next day or already had a fix and was testing
it when someone else reported it. The current version is 1.0.45. Click
File/Check For Program Updates to download this version. It fixes major
problems with lockups.

Current Issues:

1. The web site stinks and I need to do a better job keeping it up to date.

2. Yes, there is an issue with the kill.lst file. As one pointed out, it's
working for me so it's hard to debug. Several have provided information but
so far nothing has worked. I will get it fixed as soon as I can.

3. There is a problem with the Out Of Office mode where it does not filter
all the messages. I will fix this as soon as I can. For now when you come
out of Out Of Office mode Apply Filters before you start to delete email.

[Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview Download v1.0.21

Sorry about the download problem. Since I'm on the network it worked for me

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview Download v1.0.21

2002-03-20 Thread Tom Schwarz

On adding the Subject to the list... The list is the Q files and the Q
files do not include the subject. In order to load the list quickly I don't
want to open the D file if I don't have to. Maybe Scott (or anyone) has a
suggestion that would help me get the data for the list quickly without
opening both files.

I've been thinking about a count. I will add that in the next release.

Thanks for the feedback, Tom

The sorting is great! Thanks for the updates!

Here's a couple more suggestions:

Having the subject field in the the to and from fields would be really
nice so we could sort by subject.

It would also be nice to know how many emails (spool files) are currently
known to spamreview...

Thanks again for the great program!

Jim

[Declude.JunkMail] spamreview gone wild

2002-03-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

This morning I discovered 3 instances of spamreview taking up 100% of
the cpu utiliztion. It happened after using spam review to look at some
spam.

I had to use Task manager to end the processes. No copy of spam review
was visible on the desktop. NT4, sp6a.

I can't tell you the version of spam review because if I try to execute
it, it immediate takes up 100% CPU and is not visible on the desktop
requiring me to use task manager to end the process.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy Baldwin

[Declude.JunkMail] SpamReview Note

2002-02-15 Thread Tom Schwarz

To all that are using spamreview...

If it appears that spamreview is locking up it may be because it is trying
to load a large message and/or a large number of messages. To resolve the
problem make sure you have v1.0.12. If you don't, you can download it at
http://www.slsoft.com/spamreview.htm.

Next... Go into the Settings and enter a numeric value in the Truncate
Message Size field. I use 5000 bytes but others use a value much greater.
Regardless, make it a size that you are willing to live with.

I am working on a new version. This version does a better job of telling
you that it's working so you know something is going on. It also includes
several other features you have requested, but not all of them. It should
be available sometime next week but I have to travel again so who knows.

Not in version 1.0.5. You should not need warnings. It works best if I can
review an email.

I was muddling through the MyParty e-mails this morning that were
caught by Declude and I though your program might possible used for this
(with a little tweaking).
Changes I see that could be made would be that the temp store-to
directory would be c:\imail\spool\virus
and take out the HTML body view option and look at just the base text.

Or am I just not thinking ahead of potential problems?
Great program BTW.

No, that is is good idea. Actually, that is the feature I tried to back out
in v1.0.4 that caused problems. The Virus feature will be in the next
release just as you described.

[Declude.JunkMail] spamreview headers

2002-01-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

Apparently spamreview likes it better when warnings are added to the
header using XINHEADER (I assume).

Without the warnings, all of the content of the email is being displayed
in the Message Header window.

syntax on using that feature more fully is appreciated. I'm guessing it
may be possible to stipulate exactly what test(s) an email fails with a
warning in the header?

Thanks,
Andy Baldwin

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] spamreview headers

2002-01-28 Thread Tom Schwarz

Yes, this is true, for now. I have a fix that will be in the next release.
(waiting on an email from Scott to confirm)

However, I like including warnings in the header so I can see why the email
was put in the Hold state. Spamview will display all warnings from the
Headers and Body in the Junk Mail Warnings box. Check with Declude on how
to put the warnings in the header.

Tom
