Overall I'm pleased with the Controller and have no regret whatsoever in buying one. If I'm being fussy I would say that it is sometimes hard to move one line up or down with the control wheel but I'm getting used to the action. I would also like an improved wol capability which works even if the unit has been turned off for any reason. With regard to scratches on the front face, I really don't know what people are doing with their units to get these - sliding it face down across the table? Re: [slim] Sychronization with SqueezeCenter 7.0?
I have also posted here due to synchronisation problems with SqueezeCenter 7.0 and have not resolved them, so I would like to establish if there are any similarities. Will the SB3 players synchronise when Softsqueeze isn't running or is powered off? I haven't actually tried Softsqueeze since upgrading to SC7.0, although like yourself, I found that synchronisation between players (up to 3 x SB3) and/or players and Softsqueeze was very good in previous versions of Slimserver (certainly 6.3.1 onwards). What operating system are you running? I have 2 PCs, one running Ubuntu and the other XP. On the Ubuntu machine, the players will sync with no issues if and only if SqueezeCenter has very recently been restarted. If it has been running for anything approaching a day then the players will not sync and I find the same 2 players will be about 1 second out of sync whilst the other is always in excess of 3 seconds. On the XP machine I simply cannot get the players to synchronise at all; restarting SqueezeCenter or rebooting the PC makes no difference and I get similar delays between players as those described above. As you've probably found, most of the questions regarding synchronisation have related to Softsqueeze and there has been very little in the way problems syncing hardware players using SC7.0. One post did however suggest the problem was either overcome or much improved when the lastfm plugin was disabled, so that might be worth trying. -- nwplace nwplace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16529 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46337 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB3 loses wireless signal, shaking restores it
My parents have an SB3 and lately it's developed an issue where it fall off the wireless network. I found that if I shake it things begin to work again. I go into Current Settings to view the wireless signal strength. When it's off the network the signal strength is 0%, pick it up and hold it, still 0%, give it a shake, 60%+. To try to determine whether or not it's a problem with their wireless router I brought over one of my SB3s and put it in the same location as the other SB3. Mine worked flawlessly, and theirs required the shake at one point. I am pretty confident that their wireless router is working fine (my wifi enabled phone had no issues either). Their SB3 also fails to connect to the network after a firmware upgrade or regular restart. Give it a shake and everything is kosher. I'm not sure what to do, but opinions are wanted. Re: [slim] SB3 loses wireless signal, shaking restores it
At some point after Logitech bought SD they went from a 1-year to a 2-year warranty. I think the 2-year took effect before Christmas 2006, so it probably is still under warranty, unless you do your Christmas shopping really early. Even if it is out of warranty, Logi/SD will do most out-of-warranty repairs for US$90 plus shipping. And, if it's as simple as a loose wireless card in the SB3, you could probably fix it yourself if you're handy with a screwdriver (I think you need a torx). Re: [slim] MoCA
I haven't been following MoCA, and it seems like there still aren't many products out there. There might be a future in it, but it seems to me that Homeplug (networking over home electrical lines) has a few big advantages as a no new wires technology, especially (1) the wires are in every room, (2) it's here now, and (3) it's pretty cheap. To me, #1 is a tough one to beat because I have exactly two rooms wired with coax (for tv and internet), compared to every room (and even the backyard) wired with electrical outlets. Someone whose whole house is already wired with coax would likely see things differently. Of course, the big advantage of MoCA would be the throughput capacity. Verizon is offering FIOS in some areas, but I don't know if they're into MoCA at all. Don't put too much stock in my views though. Re: [slim] SB3 loses wireless signal, shaking restores it
4mula1;292779 Wrote: My parents have an SB3 and lately it's developed an issue where it fall off the wireless network. It was a Christmas gift in 2006 so I have a feeling it's out of warranty. Any thoughts? It sounds like the wireless card is loose. You can certainly RMA the unit, but you could--if you're comfortable--open up the case and reseat the wireless card to see if it corrects the problem. It's not that hard, though you have to be careful not to damage the front panel; try heating it with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive before removing it. After that, it's just a couple of screws to get the case open. Take the wireless card out, clean the edge connector, and then reseat the card. If you have it, use compressed air (or a camera lens brush/bulb) to blow out the connector on the SB3 circuit board before reseating the card. -= Jim -- JimC well, she wasn't all of that, but she sure was some of that. -- BKlaas' college buddy JimC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9428 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46469 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Or can you get ethernet to your router and second SB3. I think that Homeplug got into coax when MoCA became a competive threat. There are not many adapters that I could find but Itellon, Zyxel and one obscure manufacturer (product no longer available) made or makes hybrid powerline/coax adpters that can be used either over your wiring or your coax cable. The advantage of using home wiring is that it is more ubiquitous with few if any dead zones. The advantage of coax is the speed which can theoretically reach 135Mbps...in reality the speed is more in the range of 90-100Mbps. It is also virtually free of static and interference as opposed to home wiring. The big question is why is the technology not being used? Lossless audio doesn't get near saturating those bandwidths, and how many people are running multiple HD video streams around the home? 3) the equal-or-better bandwidth with newer homeplug 4) few coax products out there (likely because of #1, #2, #3). -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42220 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Using Squeezecenter to Stream Gapless MP3s to Tversity - Can it be done?
I would like to play my lame mp3 files gaplessly on my UPNP appliances (Dlink DSM-320 and GoVideo). Unfortunately, it appears that the UPNP servers do not offer gapless playback, and most of the focus of development is on video. I'm wondering if I could use Squeezecenter to stream my music files (gaplessly), and have Tversity pick up the stream and transmit it to my UPNP appliances just like it was an internet radio signal, although with native high quality bitrate. Can this be done, and if so how? Thanks for your suggestions. -- Classicalguy Classicalguy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16952 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46482 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Sorry, I interpreted I see three networks including my own at -52dBm (Channel 1) as meaning there were three networks all operating on channel 1, and two ADDITIONAL networks on the other channels. You'll probably have to stop SqueezeCenter first. I would think a 28GB log is pretty unlikely unless you've raised the logging levels on at least one of the logging settings. Before shutting down SC7 you'll probably want to reset them. The default level for all of them is 'Error'. I would prefer to have cat5 and I am now kicking myself for overlooking this detail when we built our house 8 years ago. As for a retrofit, it would not be easy to do. I'm just guessing - but I suspect the knob response includes server communication. the only certain evidence is that it doesn't click when its not active - but even that's not definitive. but - i think the knob click response should be implemented locally so it was rock solid reproducible in the amount of turn required to get on click.
