I had the same problem with one of my SB3. The wireless module stopped working a week after I bought the unit from Slim. If you just press and hold it rarely catches for me. Yes, I belive that's the edge logic. A lot of people (myself included) hold their iPhone by having one finger parked just below the lower edge of the screen. I tried my SB1 on wired, and it ran for 8 hours, no problem. I then moved it to a different location and tried it on wireless. Again, 8 hours, no problem. I then moved it back to its original location, and thought to try test networking. It reports several (5? 6?) protocol errors with various lengths (ff71, and some others), and then resets. In the logs I see: [09-02-16 07:14:54.9513] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (383) request not dispatchable! I have a Linn Majik DS with Ruark speakers and a Rega power amp. I sounds phenomenal. The only problem is the Linn software. On a whim and as it was cheap I have just ordered Beresford TC-7510 DAC. will this get me up to Linn quality ? How do the volume issues pan out in real life? I'm nervous about having to transcode my studio quality FLAC files in sqeezecentre or will this not effect quality. Do I even need to transcode FLACs or can a transporter handle them. Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
I've been using the iPeng web page for a while, and I finally switched. I love how fast and natural iPeng is. It's changing the way I listen to music. Here are a couple of minor suggestions: - The select player and playlist overlays are very nice. However, it's generally bad UI design to have critical functions in non-obvious places - novices might never find them. I would add a Select player choice somewhere, and a playlist icon in the upper right hand corner, and treat the overlays as shortcuts. (Many years ago I helped design software at Apple.) - I have encountered the volume control issue. - Have you thought of moving settings out of the app and into the springboard settings? - You might want to put a button somewhere and launch Squeezecenter's settings page into Safari. It would save me a couple of steps. Or not. - I really miss the alarm clock and sleep functions, and still use the web page to set them. Not a biggie, and I know you're working on it. Goodsounds;397144 Wrote: I know nothing about this, but it makes me wonder why you'd want to bother with it? What in your view would be accomplished? Hi GS, Kind of a group things. First, the HD was the noisiest part (the only noise) of my Shuttle. Second the SSD will run with less heat (no fan in the Shuttle) and third it is quieter (Double important). Fourth, it's kinda fun to watch the HD light flash and hear nothing. I have always had my OS and SC on a seperate drive for ease of backup and defrag. Of course you don't defrag SSD's so that is a little maintenance I won't have to do. Anyhoo, since I posted this I just bit the bullet and did it. I follwed the instructions from OCZ to align the drive and that went without a hitch. Next, I downloaded the Acronis free trial. The SSD has a USB port on it so I did everything outside of the PC as far as alignment and cloning. Acronis automatically shuts your PC down when done. After that you install the new drive and reboot. Other than being a bit faster, you can't even tell you did anything. The entire operation took 30 minutes including aligning the HD. So it's silent, cool, uses less power and is faster. A fair trade for the $$ spent ($78) I think. Now if it could tone down the blue power LED :-) If you get the OCZ SSD be sure to follow the instructions for partition alignment. I have a shuttle K45 with an OCZ SATAII SSD (30Gb) and a 1TB WD green drive. Running FreeNAS 0.69 and SC 7.4. I set the WD to go to sleep after 15 min and turned on the acoustic settings. The OS and SC are on the SSD, FLACS on the spinning disk. Serves up 4 devices (2 SB 2 Boom) without even breathing hard. Boots in about 20 seconds, the web interface is very snappy. Very stable. Given the huge number of complaints I've seen all over about the Actiontec I'd lay the blame at it's door unless someone can persuade me otherwise :) The general consensus seems to be that the Actiontec is garbage and you (or Verizon, even better) should replace it with something decent. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60199 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I love Linksys but there routers can't handle high packet throughput. I have spent a lot of time testing router throughput and the only router that measures up for under $500 is TRENDnet. Re: [slim] please help me pick a new router
+1 for the WRT54GL. As others mentioned, note the L at the end. I have not experienced any packet throughput problems at all with mine. I have logged 22mbps from wireless to wired devices (which is as good as I've seen from any wireless-G gear), 90 some odd mbps wired to wired across it's switch, and it handles my 8mbps internet connection via it's router with numerous connected devices without any trouble. I've also installed dozens of these routers for customers, friends, and family with no complaints. In fact, I have about six of these routers in a business VOIP application that all connect to a central trixbox located in middle America - with GL's and phones as far away as Canada and even one in Hong Kong. The routers are even establishing maintaining an OpenVPN connection to the trixbox prevent NAT issues with the VOIP. This system has been in place for about a year I almost never have to work on it - it just works. Amazing for ~$50 hardware. We also run a game server through another one of them with no trouble -- this particular one is one of three covering an 8000 sq/ft house, while also running VOIP and maintaining an OpenVPN session at all times. Anyhow I'd also suggest running the DD-WRT firmware. I think this is an important part of not only giving you the flexibility to do all sorts of things, but to making the router rock solid reliable as far as consumer level devices go. The system has great reliability and I have no trouble what-so-ever out of my network of squeezeboxen at home - they work well and reliably, no complaints at all. -- 86atc250r 86atc250r's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15476 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60201 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The key question is what is your budget? There's quite a price range even for in-ceiling speakers. I have 2 pairs of Polk Audio RC60i in my kitchen/dining area, and they are okay for the low end of the price range (about US$100/pair from Amazon). After I bought them someone advised me that I'd be better off with 8 drivers, and he was probably right because my Polks are pretty weak on the bass frequencies. Re: [slim] Ceiling Speakers
I purchased 3 pairs of Niles CM800HD about 8 years ago and they have served me very well. They are located in the kitchen, living room and outdoor rear deck (installed under a wall popout). They are sourced from the SB3 analog to my Parasound C2 zone 2 and are powered by an old Adcom GFA 2535 amp. I think I paid about $300 a pair. Looks like that model has been discontinued and been replaced by the CM830 for about the same price. Great to run those wires when everything is open, good luck. Additionally, I would suggest that, if you have done so already, you wire your SC Server rather than connecting through wireless. Re: [slim] Windows Home Server
On my server, it takes some time between the service starting and SC actually becoming usable. But when I use the stop and start button in the console, it tells me Squeezecenter is running almost immediately, even though SC does not respond for another minute or two. If it's possible, it would be nice if the message didn't appear until SC was running and fully accessible. That should be fine in the next nightly build.
