Good lord. That was easy.

[slim] How to date LMS from 8.0.0 to 8.3.0 using pcp

2022-12-15 Thread anglecard48

Hello,

How does one update LMS to 8.3.0 from 8.0.0?

In other words, how does one run the following command to execute the
installer
sudo lms-update.sh -r

For the past how many weeks (several) I have been looking at a line of
text at the bottom of my LMS saying that I can update my LMS software.

Today I decided to do it. And I think it instructed me to run that line
shown above.

But I don't know how to do what is instructed.

I am in my pcp. I use a Mac. Am I supposed to use the Terminal app on
my Mac to enter the sudo lms-update.sh -r

At the bottom of my LMS screen is the following system version numbers
piCorePlayer1 | piCorePlayer v8.0.0 | www v00016 | linux
5.10.42-pcpCore-v7 (32) | piCore v13.0 | Squeezelite v1.9.9-1386-pCP

Many thanks

Genius! The advice about the Squeezelite settings did the trick. I used
hwCARD=Tone1,DEV=0. And music poured out of speakers, Bemsha Swing,
Miles Davis and MJQ. Beautiful.

When I used hwCARD=Control,DEV=0 it wouldn't allow me to launch
Sqeezelite.

I have another Tone 1 question.

There is some advice that the sound can be improved by splitting the USB
power and data wires and using a separate power source rather than using
RPi. There are a couple techniques for doing this that don't jeopardize
Tone 1 warranty. Some say otherwise the Tone 1 emits some noise. So far
I am not hearing noise. But it may be because I am so jubilant.

Onward! And huge thanks.

[slim] Khadas Tone 1 DAC no sound

2022-04-16 Thread anglecard48

I am installing a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B ethernet wired to Internet with
a Khadas Tone 1 DAC. I am getting no sound. I had installed pCP ver 8
on my RPI and went through the whole configuration set up (which you
taught me last July). For Squeezelight Settings output I selected USB.
No sound.

So I went back to the Audio output device settings in pCP in Squeezelite
and selected from the pick list GenericSimpleESS9023 DAC. I did hear
some popping from the speakers as the RPi / pCP went through its thing.
But no music.

I am using Qobuz. It is selected and all properly logged in in LMS. It
does show up as connected and playing on my remote (I use a Duet
remote).

I unplugged the USB from the back of the Raspberry Pi and tried it in a
different socket. I shutdown pCP and Raspberry Pi and restarted. But no
soap. It all looks good but no sound.

Any thoughts?

I did come across a post on this topic, named "Khadas Tone Control no
sound"
But it's from 2011 and way over my head.

My system is fine. So I know there is nothing wrong with my preamp, amp
or speakers. I am actually moving an existing RPi 4 / Topping D-30 from
this system to another system upstairs and inserting the Raspberry Pi 2
Model B / Khadas Tone in its place. And all was working well with the
former set up. So I know cabling preamp and system are OK.

Thanks

[slim] Is it possible to connect with an online event?

2022-02-25 Thread anglecard48

I wonder if it's possible to connect with an online music event via my
LMS? I use PiCore Player / Raspberry Pi. I recently received two gifts,
one a Virtual Weekend Pass to the Elmhurst University Jazz Fest and
another to the Northwest Chamber Music series of online concerts. Sue I
can watch and listen on my laptop. Watching is secondary to listening.
I'd like to listen through my hifi system. Do you know if that is
possible?
Thanks.

Well, the issue of the remote was easy. The Duet Controller works
perfectly. I'll keep it. Plus I also now understand what was meant when
said, "...for a controller, I just grab whatever is handy, controller,
phone, desktop." I was doing likewise last night.

Now looking back this all seems so easy.

Thanks again to all.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-13 Thread anglecard48

Before I get to your ideas and recommendations about back up and a
remote controller, I want to revisit a mystery that had me fretful early
on in the process, and still fretful up until a moment ago. The
information may come in handy in the future if a member runs into the
same situation, which is: RP did not show up as a connected device on my
network.

You may or may not recall that when I first burned pCP onto an SD card
and plugged it in and wired up the RP it did not show up as a connected
device on my network. I thought my image burn was incorrect, so I
focussed on that. Also I called tech support at my ISP and the person
there did not see it as a connected device either.

Once I got a micro HDMI cable and wired into a TV, I saw a valid IP
address. And I was able to achieve happiness soon thereafter. But it
bothered me that I was not seeing RP or pCP on my router's connected
devices.

My network hardware setup consists of a cable modem / router (Arris
Gateway Modem) and in two "Plume Home Pass Super Pods" that are plugged
into electrical outlets, one on first floor, the other upstairs.

My RP is wired into the router and not into one of the pods. My ISP told
me this morning that the Raspberry Pi hardwired into the Arris gateway
modem will not show up as a connecting device since it is not connecting
to one of the pods. That still bothered my because I not only couldn't
see it on the Plume Home Pass but couldn't see it when I plugged in the
Arris IP address and navigated around the various settings there.

I got a note from a supervisor just now at ISP saying the pCP is showing
up and can be seen in a list under the LAN Setup client listing for the
Arris router. But it will not show up on the Plume Home Pass. I sure
couldn't find it until he sent me a screen grab showing me where to
look.

So, the RP/pCP was on the network all the time. I just wasn't looking in
the right place for the right list. Doh!

Of course neither was the customer support guy at the ISP.

I think I should get accustomed to it, play with it for a couple days --
it should seem that any device that connects to Internet and allows me
to enter the IP address would operate it. But I need to get into it. It
may be that I keep the Duet and use the controller.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-12 Thread anglecard48

SUCCESS!!! ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.

The thing works now. Music is streaming out of the RaspberryPi /
PiCorePlayer to my Topping D30 and out to my preamp / amp / speakers.
Sounds sweet.

I wish I know why today and not yesterday. See attached. The RP sees the
D30 DAC.

I am happy. Still confused but happy.

Next is to configure a remote.

I believe I will open a new thread on the topic of a remote. I have
looked at some conversations on this forum and see that on the
piCorePlayer website (
https://www.picoreplayer.org/landingzone_features.html ) "Feature 7"
shows a remote. The links are over my head.

On a previous post a member mentioned a smart phone and Material skin. I
have a couple of smart phones collecting dust.

I don't know why I'd want to keep the Duet Controller. The Duet system
does still have some value on eBay ($50 - $100). It might be of use to
someone.

You people are great. I very much appreciate your help and knowledge.

Yep. pCP is not seeing my DAC.

I'll take the day off and spend some time with my wife. Get away from

I wonder if I should close out of this thread, as I have accomplished

The instructions on the pCP page
(https://docs.picoreplayer.org/projects/add-topping-e30-usb-dac/ ) seem
to show a pick list that is different than the one I get in my piCP. See
attached, where I show the two side by side.

When I try to type in the command "hw:CARD=D30,DEV=0" the system shuts
down Squeezelite and won't allow a reboot. As is seen in the attached
screen grab, I tried insted to select out of the list "hw:CARD=b1,DEV=0"
but that didn't produce any sound through my DAC to my hifi system.

I did have the USB cable plugged into the correct outlet.

Under the "Tweaks" tab near the bottom of the page is a group named USB
Audio Tweaks, which seems to mention DACs. I tried one of the selections
from the list. See the second attachment. No Soap.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-10 Thread anglecard48

It looks like I've got everything connected, set up and running. I
double checked that I carried out the instructions from kidtypike and
KeBul and the picoreplayer.org site. All looks good. See screen shot. It
appears to be playing from an Internet streaming source.

But I can't get any sound. I should say I can't get any sound through my
DAC and out through my stereo system. Sound does come through the TV
that I set up this morning.

I have a Topping D30 DAC. So I have hooked up to it with a USB cable
from the RP. there are four USB outlets on the RP. Does it matter which
one I use?

PiCP has a number of "Audio Output Device Settings." I've tried: USB
Audio; Generic/simple ESS9023; and a couple others. Then there is a
setting under "Change Squeezelite settings" named "Output settings" that
has a pick list of things like: default; plugeaual; equal and others.
I've tried a few of those.

With each selection I click on Save, Stop LMS, and reboot the RP.

Is there a secret code to getting the sound out to the Topping D30?
PiCP.org has some instructions about the Topping E30 but it doesn't seem
to apply here.

Thoughts?

A question: At the step Fixed IP Address (Main Page - Beta functions
section - Static IP Button) should I fill in all the fields or dies it
populate them automatically. See screen grab.

I've successfully got through the setup steps enumerated by kidstypikke.
I'm onto the additional steps to set the device as a streamer only from
KeBul (setting up a Player is a bucket list item for me, right now I
have no stored digital music files). I have a question.

It's been fun so far. I've, for some reason, gotten bumped off the
network a couple of times while configuring. When that happens I unplug
the power from the RP and plug it in again and I get back on. We live in
a rural area sort of. Maybe that's going to happen.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-10 Thread anglecard48

I am truly an idiot.

I am now looking at the piCorePlayer that's installed on an SD card I
burned and is inserted in my Raspberry Pi. See screen shot for
verification.

Yesterday, when I had bothered all of you generous people saying I could
not connect the RPi to my network and hooking up an HDMI monitor did not
solve the problem, I had omitted one very important step. I had not
connected the RPi to my router.

What I did when I received the micro HDMI cable is I excitedly took my
RPi and SD card to my most accessible TV and plugged it in and saw no
connection in the display text. I tried other cards and no card with the
same result. I thought I would see there a url with the RPi's network
address.

I had mistakenly understood that the RPi / piCorePlayer somehow would
have a network address, I guess, imbedded or maybe it would
automatically connect wirelessly. I had previously, as you know, tried
to connect RPi to my network by ethernet cables into router sockets but
with no HDMI display and could not see it on my list of devices
connected to my network.

Last night I shot upright in bed at 2:38 a.m. thinking what if the
network address is only accessed if the device is plugged in - via
ethernet - to the network? In other words it isn't something imbedded or
gotten via a wireless connection. I should have taken the TV to the
router and RPi not the RPi to the TV.

So, this morning I took the smallest TV in the house to the router,
hooked up RPi with SD card to the TV, ethernet to router, and turned all
on and viola.

I feel like a complete halfwit. I apologize to you all. My wife has
reminded me for many years that I am the kind of person who has to have
everything clearly spelled out. I always assumed she was just talking
about things that she told me to do, to which I didn't give my full
attention. No, I am thick.

Be that as it may, I can now move on to the step: "Main page", scroll
down to bottom of page and click the "Beta tab", dismiss warning." as
kidstypike instructed way back at the beginning of this fiasco. I hope
all goes smoothly now.

Again, please accept my apologize and my gratitude.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-09 Thread anglecard48

You all are hugely appreciated by me; and you have great stamina.

It seems to me like a hardware issue too.

kidstypike said: "If your pi/monitor is saying "No network found", then
that is your problem."

I think I've done all the things suggested:

I have connected the pi to the router via four different Ethernet
cables. I have plugged into three different sockets on the back of the
router. Also I have unplugged devices that are on the network and
plugging their cables into the Raspberry Pi. So it seems the cables work
and the router works — and works at those socket points. The router
hasn't been faulty in any other cases; every device we own and that our
guests have brought into home has been able to get on the network.

I've been in touch with our Internet provider and they have spent time
with me on this and have run their diagnosis on the router (whatever
that is) and it looks healthy. Interestingly, the tech support guy owns
a Raspberry Pi.

The only stone left to turn over would be accomplished by Redrum's idea
of taking it over to a neighbor's and plugging into his network to see
if it pops up. I have fairly recently moved into the neighborhood and
will need to work up to that favor to ask. But will. Or maybe the tech
support guy at our Internet provider would let me come in and connect
it.

Meanwhile I have been in contact with the support department at the RPi
retailer, piShop.us. They are a 24 hour responder working M - F, 9 - 5,
so next Monday I should hear back. The Raspberry pi website suggests a
user with problems looks to its user forum. It does have a forum post on
the very same topic but no resolution that I can see. Here's a link:
https://bit.ly/3xqM3zH

I'm thinking the retailer will send a replacement. But I'll keep working
at it meanwhile.

Thanks again all of you. I would never cash in the chips on this, I
would feel that I've let you down. I'll be in touch.

Onward.

I'm not seeing any players connected as listed in LMS. I had sent in a

I obtained a micro HDMI cable and connected my Raspberry Pi 4 to a
monitor. I tried connecting with SD card burned with PiCorePlayer, also
with Raspberry Lite on SD, also tried connecting with no SD card in the
RPi. Here's what I saw (I have attached photos) --

With the SD card burned with PiCorePlayer:
it displayed approximately 30 lines of text. I am not qualified to
understand the text but I do see a couple lines that are relative to the
problem I reported to you earlier in the week: On line 16 (or nearby)
in yellow type it says "Waiting for network " and on the same line
in pink: "No network found."

With the SD card burned with Raspberry Lite
It went through lots of lines displaying on the screen.

With no SD card inserted.
It displayed about 20 lines of text and a QR code which took me to a web
page describing Raspberry Pi OS.

Many other devices are able to see the network -- including visitors we
had over the weekend and their various devices (tablets, cell phones,
laptops) and are able to get on the network, The RPi is the outlier in
not being able to see and get on the network.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-06 Thread anglecard48

Again, you people are terrific, Thanks so much for all your help.

After this morning's attempts I got in touch with the shop I bought the
Raspberry Pi from, PiShop.us. I'd hope to hear back from them soon.

This morning's attempt are summarized here:

Today I went over to the Walmart and bought another SD card and burned
pCP onto it using a Windows version of USBImager. In other words, sort
of started over with a couple new players. No success.

So I plugged in a 4 GB SD card and burned Raspberry Lite OS onto it to
see if the RP would connect to my network with that installed rather
than pCP. No success.

I thought maybe I'm just not seeing RP in my list of connected devices
so I had my Internet provider take a look. No, it was not showing up.

And I made sure that the ethernet cable and socket were proven to work
(I pulled the cable out of the back of my functioning Roku and used it).

When I power up the Raspberry Pi a solid red LED comes on and a green
LED flashes intermittently, irregularly and then goes dark and stays
dark.

I will leave this in PiShop.us's Customer Support court for the rest of
the day. I still have a few ideas from you that I can and will try. But
want to hear from Customer Support first.

Onward!

I bought it with the Raspberry pi from PiShop.us. But I didn't think of

Yes, confirmed.

I really thank you all on this forum for your continued help. I am

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-05 Thread anglecard48

Back at it. Thanks again for you help. Here a few replies or outcomes:

KeBul stated succinctly what I'm attempting:
"...pCP imaged and running on your RPi on the same network as your
laptop and you accessing pCP via a web browser to configure it."

kidstypike suggested:
"Nothing connected, log into your router, or use the other methods in
the doc to see the devices connected to your network, say there are X
total. Then connect your picore player (via ethernet to your router
only) and refresh. If you don't see one more, you dont have a running
picore yet, it's time to focus (as mentioned) on a proper image on the
SD."
me:
I did that. I don't see picore so I dont have a running picore yet. I do
see other devices and I do see them go away if I disconnect them and
come back to the list of connected devices when I power them up.

kidstypike:
"Which software are you using to burn the pCP image to the SD card?"
"A 2GB card isn't big enough."
me:
To burn the image to the SD card I used Raspberry Pi Imager and Balena
Etcher. The card I'm using is 32 gb. The model is SanDisk Extreme Plus,
micro SDHC, Read Write. I was unable to see the Raspberry Pi on my
network when I plugged the SD card into the RP, plugged internet cable
into the router and powered up.

Fahzz:
"There's windows app called SDcard Formatter try that. I also used an
app called Balena Etcher to burn the image."
me:
I downloaded SDcard Formatter and Balena Etcher Mac versions to my
MacBook Air. I formatted the card with SDcF and then burned the image
with Balena. I plugged in and was unable to see the Raspberry Pi on my
network.

KeBul:
"The premise is you use one of those utilities, specify the card you
want your image to be written to (your micro SD card), specify the image
file (your downloaded and unzipped picoreplayer.img file and then the
utility will format the card, create all the necessary partitions,
unpack and copy the files and make the card bootable. ...place the card
in your RPi, connect the RPi to your router and power it up, leave it
for a few minutes to allow it to boot and then look for its IP address
in your router."
me:
Yes, I understand. I did all that. I used Raspberry Pi Imager on a Mac
and on a PC. I used Balena Etcher on the Mac only. In each case, it
seemed apparent that the applications were doing their thing burning the
image. But to no avail.

PNelson:
"Plug the Pi using a ethernet cable into the router, not the computer."
me:
Yes, that's what I did.

Redrum:
"Nothing connected, log into your router, or use the other methods in
the doc to see the devices connected to your network, say there are X
total. Then connect your picore player (via ethernet to your router
only) and refresh. If you don't see one more, you don't have a running
picore yet, it's time to focus (as mentioned) on a proper image on the
SD."
me:
I did that. I could see the various devices connected to my Internet via
an app that our Internet provider gave us called Plume Home Pass. I
could click on each and find out IP addresses. I could turn off devices
and see that they were "Not connected." I could turn on devices and see
them come on line. I could never see the picore player.

chicks:
"it should show up in your browser at “pcp.local”, much simpler than
typing an IP address."
me:
This didn't work.

sbp:
"I Will suggest that you start by adding a computer screen to your
raspberry."
me:
I suppose. But if it's supposed to work by connecting to a laptop, I'd
like to see that work.

Raspberry Pi website:
There is an article on the RP site titled "How to connect Raspberry Pi
to laptop display: step by step guide." https://bit.ly/2SUoKiQ
Me:
This step by step guide is easy enough to follow up to the end of Step
2. Then it goes way over my head.

Conclusion:
I am down but not out. Although, I am not suer what my next step is.
Tomorrow perhaps a call to Raspberry Pi or its distributor that I
purchased from (PiShop.US) or to someone at piCorePlayer.

Otherwise it has been a very nice 4th of July. My daughter and
son-in-law spent the weekend with us. We saw some fireworks. We saw a
tremendous rainbow. We went out in our canoe and kayak. Ate well. Drank
a little too much.

For music, I plugged a USB cable into my Topping D30 DAC from a Samsung
cell phone. Opened up a Pandora app and accessed lots of good music. It
sounded terrific. My wife asked me why I'm driving myself nuts with
Raspberry Pi and previously with Squeezebox Duet. Why not get an old
cell phone and dedicate it to the hifi?

She's got a knack for cutting through the extraneous stuff in life. My
only answer to her was, "That wouldn't be right."

I'll keep trying.

Re: [slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-03 Thread anglecard48

I'm beginning to get worn out.

I've been at it for a good three-plus hours. I've gotten as far as "Find
IP address of Pi and enter it into a web browser address bar on your
laptop and press enter." I've done that but nothing happens. I think
maybe I don't really have the Raspberry Pi's IP address.

When i run an ethernet cable from the Raspberry Pi to my PC and go to >
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Sharing Center I see my
usual network and I see "Unidentified Network," which shows Ethernet
connection and shows No Internet Access. I can get information on this
connection including an IP address, which is what I used as described
above. But apparently this is not the Raspberry Pi' IP address.

I've wired the Raspberry Pi via ethernet into our router but it doesn't
show up as a connected device on our network. My good old Squeezebox
Boom and Squeezebox Radio show up.

The Raspberry Pi seems fine the lights come on showing that it is
connected to at electrical and ethernet sockets.

I thought maybe my download and copy the PicorePlayer onto the microSD
card was faulty to I redid it twice, once on my Windows PC and once on
the Mac. Same results. The install seemed to have been fine. At least it
looked that way.

I'm out of ideas as to what to do next. I think I'll put an LP on the
turntable.

My motivation to keep going is that a) I am a glutton for punishment;
and b) I couldn't get my Duet to work yesterday or this morning, so I
need this Raspberry Pi idea to work.

Any advice?

Well, I can't seem to get to first base. I have a 2 gb microSD (Sandisk)
when I try to write to it to burn the piCore player I get Error writing
to storage. I went over to Target and bought a 32 GB Sandisk and got the
same message.

I thought these things were pre formatted but maybe not. So I tried to
format on my Windows PC and get the message that Windows cannot format.

Is there a certain kind of sd card that I need to have?

What kind of cable do you use to go from the Raspberry Pi to the Topping
D30 DAC? I guess I was thinking I'd see a coax out or an optical output
from the Raspberry Pi. I'm asn idiot for not looking into that
previously.

[slim] Looking for advice on Rasperry Pi piCore Player set up

2021-07-02 Thread anglecard48

I just received shipment of my Raspberry Pi 4.0 GB Model B, which I plan
on using with piCore Player to replace my SB Duet. Can you recommend any
instructions, Youtube videos etc that I can review so I do this right? I
want to know how to use my laptop to set up the Raspberry Pi, download
the piCore Player and transfer it to a memory card and plug that into
the Raspberry pi, and then configure the Raspberry Pi to use LMS.

All I play is streamed content, I understand LMS and mysb and have been
a user for 10 years or so. I don't have a hard drive with digitized
music. I just want to play radio and Pandora, etc.

I don't know what size micro SD I need. I don't know how to use my
laptop to set up the Raspberry PI (instead of buying a Raspberry Pi
keyboard and monitor). Once I get everything set up, I don't understand
what I would use as a controller: an old cell phone that I have in the
closet or my Duet Controller.

I have searched up and down on Google and YouTube and the sites of the
two manufacturers (RP and piC) and and seem to only come up with content
that explains Raspberry Pi for hobbiests or for audio users that have
hard drives full of digitized music. I can't find a "set this up for
Dummies."

Any advice?

Yes, two years is probably about right. Hey, it gives a retired guy like
me something to get tripped up on, which is good.

I'm very honked off at my SB Duet right now and don't even want to look
at it. I do look forward to the piCorePlayer on a Pi. But I'm thinking
maybe I may want to use a remote other than the SB Duet Controller.

So I looked at some posts and came across the likes of this: "you can
add a small IR receiver to the GPIOs on the Pi you might need an extra
resistor"

Yikes. Maybe I should keep the SB Controller.

Re: [slim] Machine to use for LMS and Duet

2021-06-27 Thread anglecard48

Thanks to all of you again. I went back and reread all of the comments
and I think I am beginning to get this. The Raspberry pi and the Dell
Wyse are great suggestions. As I mentioned, I'll go the Raspberry pi /
piCorePlayer and I won't worry about connection to mysb. I'll keep the
Duet Controller.

I have been rather old school with my audio set up -- my amplifier is
early 1970's -- so I do have some work to do to get hip to the new
technologies. Some of the lingo baffles me, eg: "client", "hat", "run
ffs" etc. So as I get into my Raspberry pi / piCorePlayer launch you may
see me back here again seeking your help.

As Billy Strayhorn said "ever onward and upward."

Thanks again.

Thanks all of you. I have ordered a Raspberry Pi and will dive into the
install and enjoyment next week I hope.

I'd like and really appreciate your comments.

Could I impose once more? I just want to summarize and have you check to
see if I understand all this correctly.

- I have an SB Duet in my living room (main listening room).
- I do not have a PC to dedicate 24/7 in my main listening room (hifi
system) to run LMS and need to remedy that situation.
- I really only listen to streaming audio via Pandora and Internet radio
stations (maybe a one-day-in-the-future task will be to digitize my LPs
and stream them off a hard drive)
-The Raspberry pi is the ideal hardware device (small, cool, quiet,
capable, ships today, and inexpensive) that can work to operate my LMS
with my Duet
But...
-piCore Player is a higher-level application than the native Squeezebox
app that Duet uses, so I'll use piCore Player instead and will use my
Duet only as a remote.

I believe I can use my laptop's monitor and keyboard to set up my
Raspberry pi via plugging into my router and looking up Raspberry pi IP
address on the router. So I won't need a Raspberry keyboard and
monitor.

- There is a Raspberry pi OS and OS lite that is available from
raspberrypi.org. It seems that one uses a micro sd card to get a
download app from pc to Raspberry pi.
- Once Raspberry pi is plugged in and operational, I will download LMS
from Logitech Squeezebox and install it on the Raspberry pi.
NOTE: one respondent instructed that: "If you want your server PC to
also be a player, you install the "Local Player" plugin." I don't
exactly know what that means.
- Once the server is running, I'll download, install, and configure my
piCorePlayer to "use this instance of LMS as its server" (I don't
exactly know what that last part in quotes means).
- piCore Player will appear on my LMS as a Squeezelite player called
piCorePlayer

Question 1: will I need my Squeezebox receiver?
Question 2: Currently I am not able to connect my SB Duet Receiver or
Controller to mysb. I have a post on the Duet stream. Will that cause
problems when I attempt tp go the piCore Player route?
Question 3: Currently I use a Topping DAC. Would I line into that DAC
from my Raspberry pi? Or does Raspberry pi line in to the SB receiver
and then line into the Topping DAC?

My system consists of:
Turntable -- ProJect
CD Player -- Rotel
Streamer -- SB Duet (LMS on MacBook Air when available)
DAC -- Topping D30
Preamp -- Reference Line Preeminence One
Amp -- SAE Mark 31B
Speakers -- WOW1s

Many, many thanks.

I like the idea, price, immediate availability, and footprint of the
Raspberry Pi 4 option.

What is the optimum operating system for this option? Would a Raspberry
Pi setup have its own OS. Or does one use something like Windows or
Linnux?

I once set up an old 386 PC by installing a Linnux (Ubuntu lite) OS. It
wasn't the funnest time I ever had but I got it to work and can do it
again. The PC was just too hot and noisy for my system so I took it
down.

Thanks

[slim] Machine to use for LMS and Duet

What are some ideas or recommendations for an inexpensive computer to

Is there a bare bones, inexpensive computer, pad, tablet, etc that runs

[slim] Confusion: the basics of LMS and mysqueezebox.com

2021-06-23 Thread anglecard48

I've had a Squeezebox Duet for 12 years, a Squeezebox Radio for the past
8 years and a Boom for about a year. I listen to radio (FM stations) and
Pandora streaming. I don't listen to any music from internal digital
sources. I don't know what I'm doing when I run into problems. I had an
issue recently connecting to a new Tidal account. I just don't get the
whole set up. I have LMS V 8.1.1 installed on my MacBook Air. I never
play any music from my MacBook or any hard drive. I only stream from
Internet sources.

I'm confused about why I need LMS on my Mac. Does LMS on my Mac have
anything to do with streaming from an Internet source. All the LMS
setting and the web remote control (never use it) confuse the heck out
of me. Could I delete it from my Mac and still successfully stream from
the likes of Pandora and Tidal?
