Re: [Emc-users] Classicladder Sequential

2021-01-26 Thread Todd Zuercher
I was just wondering if there were any examples of how the GRAFCET programming
might be used in Classiclader. Thought that if I saw how it might be used I
might then understand exactly what it was then. And if any one had actually
used it with Linuxcnc to know that it actually works with our version of CL.

Thanks for the links Andy I'll look them over and see if I can actually
understand any of it.

CL supports state based sequential logic, using GRAFCET.

http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.5/html/ladder/classic_ladder_es.html#_grafcet_programming

There are some "example_sequential" files on the (a?) classicladder github.

Guess you have to implement it as a state machine?

Came to the conclusion there is two methods to implement programs.
Sequential there program may stop and wait for something or state
machine. Sequential require some kind of operating system support for
multi tasking while state machines remember program position by itself
in some variable so it may be implemented in a function called
periodically exiting each time.

Dear,

thank you for the answers, I'll check for hide pin I think I have latest
version available 2.5.3. I finished debugging my program and find out that
all modbus parameters are deleted from clp file if I use --nogui option. I
need modbus communication all the time so I'm able to adjust servo drive
internal position points and speeds for my takeout system for lathe.

Best regards.

If you just want to test the CL stuff you can download the the Classic
Ladder program from the creators website. You will have to find the
version that matches the one used in LCNC. For some reason the classic
ladder program was not upgraded as time went by. I cannot recall the
website but I am sure that I found it in the wiki somewhere. I will post
later if I can find it again.

the moment I have tested it manually using pyvcp buttons to execute the
changer manually. Now I am at the point where I would like to execute
the changer via a program or mdi command.

Reading the documentation in my thought process of how it should work
is this:

I type t06 in the mdi

iocontrol.0.tool-prep-number = outputs value 6
iocontrol.0.tool-change = closes a coil or rising or falling contact
(i have tried all three.

Classicladder reads the value of 6 from iocontrol.0.tool-prep-number or
iocontrol.0.tool-number as 6
classicladder operates the tool change to tool 6
Classicladder toolchange complete and closes coil tied to
iocontrol.0.tool-prepared

Now toolchange is complete.

Am i thinking about this wrong?

is the output of iocontrol.0.tool-number and
iocontrol.0.tool-prep-number only there momentarily and I dont see it?

Hey, John. Looking at the description of M6 in the gcode docs (v2.5,
HTML version), I see the following

6.1.1 Manual Tool Change

If the HAL component hal_manualtoolchange is loaded, M6 will stop the
spindle and prompt the user to change the tool based on the last T-
number programmed. For more information on hal_manualtoolchange see the
(Manual Tool Change) Section.

...where that parenthetical phrase Manual Tool Change turns out to be
a hyperlink to Section 8. Manual Tool Change in the Axis docs.

Since we are reading a section titled Manual Tool Change the link to
Manual Tool Change seems counterintuitive. At a minimum, I think the
last of the sentence in 6.1.1 should read see the (Manual Tool Change)
Section in the AXIS documentation.

Then one has to ask oneself, why a link to AXIS docs instead of to the
hal_manualtoolchange MAN page? Oh, there is no such MAN page. Oh, yeah,
hal_manualtoolchange is a Python script lumped in with the AXIS code but
usable independently of AXIS.

Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill here, but it seems to me
the user could do with a wee bit more explanation in the gcode docs
rather than making him or her go looking for it. I'd try to write it but
you folks are off in a part of LinuxCNC I know nothing about and would
rather not screw up inadvertently.

By the by, family problems have kept me away from the documentation
effort for some time. It's a joy to see how good the docs look these days:-)

Regards,
Kent

 Sorry for late reply.
You could download a simulator version of linuxcnc, and start it from HAL.

linuxcnc's version has a lot of modifications.
I think it would be better to test on the version you will use.

What is the best approach to fix that? Should I simply leave overall

 I will try to explain:
The idea is to use classicladder to control valves for pneumatics that
load the material in machine, hold it in place and then unload.
When I started working on the ladder logic, everything was working
fine, but then, at one moment, I think at the moment, when I linked
one of classicladder input pins to motion.spindle-on, it just stopped
turning the outputs on and off in a correct manner. Some of outputs
are working fine, but others are doing I do not know what - seems like
turning on for a very small amount of time at random moments.
It is 2.5~pre, installed from buildbot package some time almost a year
ago. I did copy all the config files, so I can share them, if that
 helps.
I tried to workaround this with M62/M63 and M64/M65 commands and G4
inbetween them to specify correct time distances between any 2 events,
but that did not work out nicely - I did not notice any difference
after changing almost all P values for G4 command from 0,5 to 3,5.
Restarting system for several times did not help either. I do not
know, how many times did I restart LinuxCNC...

Does anyone has any idea, what went wrong?

Sam was talking about a classicladder output. You never have more than
one output in a ladder logic as the status of the last one wins and that
will be the state of the output when they are updated.

Hi,
You can not multiplex coils, as inactive coils will force a 0 to the
signal. With internal coils will happen the same.

Or should I put all the possible
inputs for certain output in one rung

This is one way to do it.

You may also use set/reset coils instead of normal coils, these you can put
a many as you want, but the logic may get more complicated.

  Regards!

[Emc-users] ClassicLadder error

2012-10-27 Thread Viesturs Lācis
Hello!

While working in premises of my customer to add new automatic material
loading/unloading module for one of my machines, I have encountered
strange error in ClassicLadder. I took a video on my phone with it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YjkGbpuT50

Re: [Emc-users] ClassicLadder error

2012-10-27 Thread sam sokolik
I have not had that happen that I know of... Some things to check on
is if you have enough objects allocated in your hal file.. (ie loadrt
classicladder_rt numRungs=12 numBits=100 numWords=10 numTimers=10
numMonostables=10 numCounters=10 numPhysInputs?=10 numPhysOutputs?=10
numArithmExpr?=100
numSections=4 numSymbols=200 ...)

Funky things happen when you try to add something and there isn't enough
allocated..

Also - don't have an output (coil) in more than one place..

Dear,

I also started the thread with start command but it's not running
(execution time = 0). Today I installed OS with LinuxCNC once again from
LiveCD and I found out that latency test is running just once on first boot
of the system and when I want to start it again it is not running anymore.
Restarting the system does not help. I also try to install all available
updates from build in ubuntu update manager but still nothing. I also tried
to run some simulation configurations but without success. What could be
the problem?

Best regards.

You need to start the threads. A simple start command will do it.
You can see if the threads are running with show thread. 0 for the
execution time means the thread is not running.

Restarting the system does not help. I also try to install all available

Klemen,

When you say all available updates, you didn't by chance update the
OS, did you? What version of Ubuntu are you running?

I'd expect that your LiveCD did not restrict the kernel updates. LinuxCNC
ONLY runs with the kernel it installs, which must never be updated, at
least until a new RTAI enabled kernel has been built.

Do a uname -r in a terminal window, and show us what answer you get.

As Matt said this is coded right - it works.
What makes you think it isn't updating?
if you see numbers changing in the right hand corner then it is updating.
If you load a program from the GUI you may need to start the refreshing
with the start button.

You need to start the threads. A simple start command will do it.
You can see if the threads are running with show thread. 0 for the

Chris Morley wrote:

I will try to work on any glaring bugs.

Hi Chris (and others ! )

In this email I'll try to list all the problems I encountered using the
grafcet editor in EMC.

First, this is the clp file we are talking about :
http://filebin.ca/eztwq/custom.clp

The first real bug I think I've found with the grafcet interpreter is :
%X0, corresponding to the initial step state in my grafcet never become
true, even if the state IS active. So I can't do the required
initialisation for my system to work properly.

This is what the grafcet should look like :
http://imagebin.ca/view/CNXk0nbd.html

And this is what is actually working, with a trick to go around the bug
: http://imagebin.ca/view/DjYMF7X.html
I changed the inital step for a step witch do nothing, and changed the
0 step for another one, and so it work as expected.

The other problems more looks like limitations that real bugs.
One really boring point is shown up in my grafcet by the steps with a
true transition I had to add all along the thing. These must be used
due to the editor limitation : It's impossible to make a link without
linking a transition to a step. And it's also impossible to have two
links pointing to the same step. This complicates the whole thing for
nothing. E.G. the steps 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 are completely useless in the
process I describe in this grafcet, there are here just to go around
limitations.
And sometimes you just can't use link at all, then you have to delete
concerned step and transition, save, close EMC, then open it again, add
again your step and transition, then if you are lucky the editor accept
to make the link. And if you are even more lucky, the link work as expected.

This is I think indeed a bug : sometimes links don't work : when the
transition leading to the link is validated, the active state goes...
nowhere. No more step become active, and the state machine is frozen up.

I had to redraw several times the grafcet I use to get all the link
working properly.

For what I've seen, as you draw the thing without changing anything (i
mean without deleting then redrawing), things work quite well. But when
you start changing things, link problems starts.

Also something problematic is that the editor is _SLOW_. I mean _VERY
SLOW_ for example when editing steps properties and adding transition or
something, you edit the first one, then OK, then change tool to add a
transition, add it, edit its associated variable, OK, then the gui
refresh and show the thing..., and then sometimes the gui stops
refreshing at all, but still respond to mouse clicks, so you have to
click blindly somewhere expecting you are above the OK button of the
editor window, then the save button of the main window...

And when looking at the grafcet working, it often takes several seconds
to update, so you changed between lots of states before anything really
cange on the GUI.

That sounds quite strange to me, as the ladder part of the gui is also
quite slow, but keeps responding in a usable manner. And considering
evaluating the state of a state machine is not something that requires
so many calculations, why is it so slow ?

Another limitation/bug : the add and insert buttons in the grafcet
editor wont work, using them froze up the whole thing.

So ou can only use modify on the grafcet editor.

Works well as you don't need your state machine to be larger than the
default window... Yeah, you can use two or three or more sections if you
need a larger graph, but to achieve this you must add states only to
trigg a transition on the next section, this add useless complexity to
your process. And of course with the risk of error or sync problem
between sections like you can have when making a state machine using
only ladder logic.

But even with those limitations and problems, I have to say grafcet in
EMC works quite well.
It's really usefull everywhere you need a state machine. Tool changer
automatisation is a perfect example that will speak for most of you.
But could do lots of other useful things. Like switching glues tanks :)
Or controlling coolant system, or... anything.

I also seriously consider using hal and classicladder/grafcet to use a
PC as automatic system for controlling things like the ventilation
system and lights of our building.

I will write something to improve the doc, and I will add my stuff to
the wiki as a complete example of grafcet usage.
But no time for now, I must use the machine (and its working grafcet :P
) to make, then sell some PV panels before :)

Re: [Emc-users] ClassicLadder : sequential editor problem/bug

2010-07-12 Thread Stuart Stevenson
Chris,
Your work is greatly appreciated. I use classic ladder on every machine. I
tried the EMC integrated SFC programming and put it on the front burner to
learn/use ASAP. I didn't work with it long enough to believe any problems
were not my fault. Sorry for the lack of effort on my part.
Ten years ago I used IsaGRAF with MDSI's OpenCNC. OpenCNC required the
main program to be SFC and the other 4 languages to function inside the SFC
program. I did not become expert at any of them. I used it to retrofit 3
Cinci 5 axis machines. I found it very flexible and powerful.
The technical (and my personal) programing development ceased at the next
upgrade. OpenCNC moved from QNX or Windows to run ONLY on Windows. I lost
all interest in pursuing development in OpenCNC. I did (and still do) refuse
to run my machines on Windows. One of the QNX/OpenCNC machines is still
running. One broke and is sitting in a back corner disassembled. One of the
QNX/OpenCNC projects is now running EMC2. I know - OpenCNC on Windows is a
modified kernel running the Windows you interface with as an application.
I thought my use of SFC/ladder was probably over when I started using
EMC2. I am able to get what I need using C but the integration classicladder
and now SFC is exciting. My C projects are not really recognizable as C but
they seem to work for me. HEH :) :)
I see so much nice and exciting work being done in the EMC2 world I wish I
could clone (and educate) myself to be able to contribute to each and every
project.
Thank you very much for your work.
Stuart

I'm very glad to hear that you were able to get Grafcet to work. I
think you have inspired me to give it a try also. That looks similar
to the sequential function charts that I have used before, but with

I'm looking forward to your write up as well! :-)

Re: [Emc-users] ClassicLadder : sequential editor problem/bug

2010-07-08 Thread Dave
Yann,

You are welcome..

Try putting Classic Ladder into stop mode via the stop button before
editing the logic. Then once you are done editing, always save it with
the save button, then push the run button to start the logic engine.

I think some instability make sneak into CL if you try to do an edit
while the logic engine is running. If you see the stop button then
you are running, as it changes to a run button when
you are stopped. I have never tried to print from CL. Although I
thought I saw it written someplace that there are some bugs that prevent
the print function from working properly.

I have CL running ladder logic with EMC2 v 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 10.4 and also
with the current development master 2.5_pre and the ladder logic is
quite stable if I stick to doing edits in stop mode.

Hal can be a powerful interface for EMC2 but I find it a lot more
difficult to configure and debug than CL.

Ask questions if you don't understand the logic. Hopefully I did not
make any errors in the example.

I use the Classic Ladder - Ladder editor quite a bit and I don't have
 any freezing problems with that.

The only recent Classic Ladder changes that I am aware of are Modbus

Congrats you are the firt and only person that I know that has tried to
use Grafcet.
Did you manage tp get any program made?
do you know specifically what makes Grafcet behave badly.

I have had a small program run using Grafcet just for a sample:

http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?ClassicLadderExamples#Sequential_samples

you can have a Grafcet program with out a ladder program as far as I can tell,
its just limiting what you can do (just state machine)

if you can be specific about the problems then maybe we can fix it .

[Emc-users] ClassicLadder : sequential editor problem/bug

2010-07-07 Thread yann jautard
Hi

Second try to send this mail to the list...

For the machine I'm building, I've to use two glue tanks.

When one is empty, the second one is automatically switched on, then at
the next end of the program, the user has to refill the empty tank
before he can restart another cycle.

Then if on the next cycle the second tank become empty, the machine
switchs back to the first one, and so on.

If for some reasons the two tanks are empty at the same time, program
is paused and user have to refill both before it can resume the program.

To manage this system, I planned to use some grafcet programming, as
this was widely used in France during my studies, it is quite natural
for me to use it.

I know ladder is prefered by most people, but ladder is something like
chinese for me... Specially this : /

ALL the inputs are read, ALL the logic is figured out, then ALL the
outputs are set. This can presents a problem in certain circumstance if
the output of one line feeds the input of another.
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/ladder_classic_ladder.html/

This is exactly a problem for me because to chose what tank to turn on
depends on wich one was in use before the tank_n_empty event happens.

I also see this in the doc : /
Sequential programs do not work alone-there is always a ladder program
as well that controls the variables./
Well, I figure I can live with that.

But... Sequential editor simply don't work, selecting anything other
than modify frozes the whole thing. And when using modify you can do
some editing, but not all can be done. Specially you can't use
TRANSITION LINK-DOWNSIDE/UPSIDE, and I need some...

I use 2.4.0pre from mozmck experimental packages. May be this is a
issues with this particular version ? Is this fixed in next release ? Or
do I need to switch back to an older one ?

Or if you have some link that can explain me how to convert my grafcet
program to a ladder one, that would be great.

In the end, I can turn my grafcet to a physical Dlatch schema that will
be implemented with HAL. But I suspect this is not the funny way to do...

Thanks

Yann

Hopefully somebody can answer the question you actually asked, but it
might not be too bad in HAL.
You could also consider writing a very simple HAL component using Comp.
Define input pins for tank1 empty, tank2 empty and perhaps end-of-cycle
Output pins for valve1, valve 2 and stop

Then a few lines of if-else-endif logic in C code.

Comp makes it really pretty easy.
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/hal_comp.html
Look at the examples at the bottom to see how easy it can be.

Yann: Just in case you consider using a comp, here is a link to my tool
changer component:
http://www.wallacecompany.com/cnc_lathe/HNC/emc2/turret-1f.comp

The main idea here is that the component runs or loops at the rate of
the thread that it is assigned to (usually the servo thread, and usually
every 1 millisecond). Different machine states or case are assigned,
then the loop checks the current state, invokes a solution, then updates
the state for the next loop cycle. Writing a custom comp lets one assign
input pins, such as Tank 1 Sensor, Tank 2 Sensor, and output pins such
as Pause and Low Tank Level Warning Indicator. The inputs define a
state. The outputs are set according to the case that matches the state.
The comp pins are connected to EMC2, such as switch inputs and relay
outputs on the parallel port, in your .hal file.

Also, you may be able to use a Python, Bash, Basic or other script
interfaced to EMC2 with M100:
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode_main.html#sec:M100-to-M199:

I don't think your application needs real-time, so the above might be
usable.

Or, check out O codes:
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode_main.html#cha:O-Codes

I seem to recall, there might be another pause on pin state condition
built into another g-code.

Yann,

So you are saying that the sequential editor in Classic Ladder Grafcet
freezes up?

What you need to do is to establish a state engine in Ladder. That

There are some other techniques to avoid race issues but I will skip

Run now with glue pot 1
i1i2 Glue pot 2 empty B3B6
-| |--|\ |--| |---{L}--
  | B3
  |-{U}--

Was running and then both Glue Pots became empty
Glue pot 1 and 2 empty
B2 i1 i2 B7 State
7 Pause system via Hal
---| |--|\|--|\|--{L}-
B3| | B2

| |--{U}-- Reset
State 7 and reset system to off
  |B1In process Must
fill glue pots, restart glue system and unpause EMC
  |-- {U}---

The trick to thinking about this logic is that when you move to a new
state, you need to release or unlatch the old state
That makes the logic sequential..

Now to connect the logic bits to the outputs: The easy part.

B2 Q1Glue
pot 1 valve
---| |-{ }---

 B3 Q2 Glue
pot 2 valve
---|

Yes, the timers have various variables, with the preset value the one I am
using.

After shutting down and restarting, The ASSIGNMENT operation seems to stop
functioning. It is something like the following:

%TM0.P = 16*(%IW1 - %IW0)

As said before, I cant see the value of TM0.P in the WATCH window while

Sorry I made a mistake, the preset values are from 2*100 ms to 90*100 ms.

Rudy,

I'd probably put another assignment statement below the existing one,
but assign the value to a register that you can monitor.
That way you can make sure the value is a legit timer preset value.

To watch the (eg) new style timer preset:
open the watch window
change one of the %Wx values to %TM0.P
then you can see the timer preset value
This is the same for all the variables
you can even watch bit variables that way

What I did when going through this with a user was to open the CL

Sorry I can't be more specific about it, I don't really know CL very well.

Re: [Emc-users] classicladder not functioning

2009-06-29 Thread K.J. Kirwan
Stuart,

Did you try coming away from the timer left one
segment to draw in the vertical line instead of
just jumping straight across? Sometimes CL will
refuse one thing but accept it in a different way.
(You'll have to add a short horizontal segment too.)

Also, it seems to make a difference how you point
the editor at the layout grid. Try pointing at
the intersections, the blanks, and the centers of
the horizontal and vertical grid segments; what it
wants seems to vary by what item you're inserting.

Hope this helps.

Kim

You need to pick the rung you want to edit and when you pick it the side
rails turn red then select Modify in the little Editor window. Now it turns

Editor
window and left click between the C and the E and a line will pop in place.

If I understand the problem you can't edit the rung because
you have to 'make active' the rung first (each rung is 6 lines wide).
scroll the page till you see the rung you want to edit.
You should see a colour change around the left and right
sides (black to red). Red is the 'active' rung. It seems that
while scrolling up vrs down the point that it switches is
different.
Anyways once you have the red border in the right rung.
hit the edit button and modify. I'm sure you can get it from there.

The parent versions of CL are not compatible with EMC

[Emc-users] Classicladder/MODBUS

2008-10-23 Thread Chris Morley

7.124 is included with EMC TRUNK . TRUNK gives you all the cutting edge work
that people have included. It can have bugs of course. It's possible to add
classiclader 7.124 to a production EMC (like 2.2x) but probably not worth the
trouble.
The version 8.02 you found on sourceforge is the parent program that Marc Le
Douarain wrote/develops. We take his work and adapt it for EMC and develop it
for our needs/wants.

Re: [Emc-users] Classicladder/MODBUS

2008-10-23 Thread Dave Keeton
I have the trunk version you pointed to in an earlier message. What is
the proper command format to compile it? I followed the instructions on
the EMC wiki but I may not be doing it right! make is not
working..

Question, do you mean that version 7.124 can be compiled into emc now or
do you just want us to play with it aside from emc?

Re: [Emc-users] Classicladder

2008-07-30 Thread Chris Morley

I added a ladder sample that should be a good start of what you want to do in
the wikki.
www.wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?ClassicLadder

I looked through the examples in the download of classicladder on the
sourceforge and there was no examples of the counter being used that I saw

and the switch on the gear motor doing the counting:

NO contact on the left and this hooks to the U(up counting) input on the
 counter ?

Is the value of the counter usable in a compare block?

 Thanks

 Terry
