No; the former just ends up calling the latter and is
   widget-agnostic.

Exactly. The idea was that we have the consistent way across all
widgets that just works everywhere, but for entry, because we have
so much text manipulation, we have it's own namespace, and for the
sake of completeness we just left it there.

 For Eflxx I have Elmxx::Object::setText() and Elmxx::Entry::setText()
which overwrites this function. But in the end both will do the same.

that to be sure.

I've updated my OS to something from this year, so might be worthwhile
trying that again. Based on the theory that there might be more of the

and not have so much to compile from scratch.

I doubt you'll be able to. See my email to both edevel and webkit-efl

[E-devel] license localization

2012-11-22 Thread Massimo Maiurana
I saw that the about box has changed and now it displays the text of the
license. this text is also translatable, but I think it is just wrong to let
anyone adapt the license to its own language.
you do know better than me that words has different meanings in different
contexts, so a text translated in a different language could be read in a way
different from the way it is intended in the original language, and this could
lead to legal issues.

so I think it would be better to split the content of the about box in two
parts, one traslatable and another one kept in english.
the translatable parte could be this:
titleCopyright copy; 2000-2012, by the Enlightenment Development
Team/brbrWe hope you enjoy using this software as much as we enjoyed
writing it.brbrTo contact us please
visit:brhilighthttp://www.enlightenment.org/brbrAll rights
reserved.brbrhilightLICENSE/brbr
the untranslatable part would of course be the license itself.

just my 2¢

In this way, you can get evas from object without taking care if the

Yeah, I can see problems with existing code, too, but Gustavo's idea
 is the way to go.

 - elm_widget: NO INSTANT, just compat will be REGULAR.
You are right, will be fixed. FYI no more compat because no one was
supposed to inherit from elm object before the porting.
Yep, no instance of elm widget. Compat is long dead, don't worry about
it. I'm curious to see these new signal, clickable, zoombable,
draggable, selectable interfaces. The idea is good.

 - elm_box should share something with evas box, now that we have eo, same
 for table
 - elm_layout should share with edje
 - elm_image, elm_thumb could share with evas_image
 Ack, ack and ack.
And I am not sure it is good for code comprehension. You can do a lot of
good things with object oriented, but you can do disasters too. I have
seen C++ code simply unreadable. We have to put limits to creativity.

Particularly I think that elm_widget should be an interface and not a
class, then you compose an elm_image from Evas_Object_Image with
Elm_Widget. There is no need to have the Evas_Smart as we do have now, it's
just there because we lacked tools.
Indeed. With Eo in, we could get rid of Evas_Smart for good, keeping
Evas_Object_Smart as a class only until we have no more 'oficial'
users of it, and deprecating it ASAP. We could even move the smart
virtuals/funcs of evas_object_smart up to Evas_Object, making the
smart implementations of rectangle/image etc to link to that internal code.
One day, we thought about that fusion, but as we say in hebrew, cow
cow, so let's go slowly because it is not a side change. It is some
Small change, big bug.

Also some others could be made mixin, file-selector button is both a file
selector and a button to launch it. Same for fileselector.
Yep. Some of those could have been made more sane class-hierarchy-wise
during my work -- the hell was THEME API BREAKING. Until we can be
free to break them, it's hard.

I know some of my suggestions will require deeper changes and may not be
doable right now, but it's good to keep in mind.
We focused for the moment on the Eo porting without changes on the
design. And I don't want to imagine rebase ;-).
More, we don't have enough deep knowledge to know what is supposed to be
a mixin ... (as you wrote just before) so I think help will be needed
 from outside to do it.
Mmm, I remember Tasn was very confident of its meaning/uses. Also,
your image says elm_interface_scrollable is a mixin: what does it mix,
 coming just from scrollable_interface?
It contains all the implementation of the scrollable interface common
functions (i.e what was already there).

We already thought about file_selector_button change, the others were
not obvious for us. Thank you for the tip. Too, we will create a new
interface for item management because a lot of classes have the same
item management operations (behavior is different but a common API can
 be found).
As for the overall picture, it seems correct, but I did not compare it with
other references so I may have missed something. Great work! :-)
Sure Glima will find the failures ;-)

Re: [E-devel] [PATCH][E] Make Everything's plugin and action names translatable. - request for comments from gettext experts

2012-11-22 Thread hannes.janet...@gmail.com
I have to admit that I didn't test if translation works yet. I guess
it should work if gettext runs after preprocessor

On Wed, Nov 21, 2012 at 10:26 PM, Igor Murzov e-m...@date.by wrote:
Here is a patch that makes Everything's plugin and action names
 translatable.

I think i should explain why this patch actually works :)
 Some macros used this way:

   p = EVRY_PLUGIN_BASE(Settings, configure, E_SETTINGS, _begin,
   _finish, _fetch);

and the macro is defined like this:

/* creates a Evry_Plugin to be registered with evry */
   #define EVRY_PLUGIN_BASE(_name, _icon, _item_type, _begin, _finish, _fetch)
 \
 evry-plugin_new(EVRY_PLUGIN(E_NEW(Evry_Plugin, 1)), _name, _(_name),
 _icon, $ _begin, _finish, _fetch)

so the _name argument (string Settings in this case) is used two times in
evry-plugin_new() call and one of these times it is used inside _(), so
the _name is actually translated by gettext.

The same happens with EVRY_ACTION_NEW which is defined in the
 similar manner:

   #define EVRY_ACTION_NEW(_name, _in1, _in2, _icon, _action, _check) \
 evry-action_new(N_(_name), _(_name), _in1, _in2, _icon, _action, _check)

But i'm not sure if this a best solution of the problem,
 so comments are welcome :)

If the patch is ok, then similar changes should be made to
 E-MODULES-EXTRA/everything-* modules as well.

you do know better than me that words has different meanings in different

different from the way it is intended in the original language, and this could
 lead to legal issues.

so I think it would be better to split the content of the about box in two

the translatable parte could be this:

hell, yes :-) But i fear that a lot of dev are in holidays or
quite busy. I'm myself quite busy too with the merge

for e17 release - not interested. for AFTER e17 - yes. for on the
road to e18, e19 etc. for having a set of useful every day apps
that use efl - yes, but simply focusing on e17 right now and well
al my usual work on efl too and what not.

Personally I'm kinda worried about the depth and breadth of
dependencies for eve. I tried once to get it compiled, and gave up
at what seemed to be a never ending dependency hell. Also, I
suspect one of the dependencies infected everything with GPL 3, but
I'd have to look into that to be sure.

These are webkit dependencies, not eve's.

Eve depends on webkit though, thus webkits dependencies are eve
dependencies. Hence my reference to depth, the dependencies go deep.

I've updated my OS to something from this year, so might be
worthwhile trying that again. Based on the theory that there might
be more of the dependencies minimum versions supplied by Ubuntu
12.04 than 10.04 did, and not have so much to compile from
  scratch.

I doubt you'll be able to. See my email to both edevel and webkit-efl
mailing lists regarding the dependencies. I have some pending patches
from Gustavo to reduce the minimum versions required that I plan to
 submit upstream, but according to
http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/EFLWebKit it still depends on unreleased
libs like glib, glib-networking and libsoup.

I'd be happy to see that get easier to handle.

Humn... eve has nothing to do with E17. You can use it *with* E17

Yes I can use it with E17 but as packager I would like to build it
against the same EFL libs as E17, and I cannot now, because it depends
on edbus2. I haven't checked if I can install edbus2 in parallel to
 e_dbus without any file conflicts..

sure you can.

just fine. Bear in mind edbus is approaching a release real soon.

 e_dbus or edbus2?

the name is edbus, without underscores. The checks on pkg-config
happens to need the 2 because e_dbus was installing a edbus.pc file,
which would conflict with the new lib.

I confirmed it and review it.
This patch looks good.

I checked with revision 79529 and it still happended.
You can check it as below:
 - In Entry 3 of Elementary Tests, click at the end of the first entry,
 right click, choose Select,
double click, right click to see the menu. You can see Copy, Paste,
 Cancel submenus there.
 - You can do the same way with an empty entry.

The reason is that we set the sd-have_selection to true at the start of
 selection (in elm_entry.c),
even after that, the edje entry _sel_extend return without emitting
 selection,changed signal.

 Could you check it again?

I can't test it atm, but I was under the impression it was already there.
More specifically, I remember fixing it up a bit when I was working on

[E-devel] elm_index takes entire canvas space and autohide weirdness

2012-11-22 Thread Leif Middelschulte
Hi there,

1. Bug (space taken):
As the subject says, elm_index takes the entire canvas (horizontally xor
vertically) and thus renders e.g. it unusable with any ui that has e.g. buttons
in the respective corners.

I think that it should be limited to the viewport size of its parent element à
la 'elm_index_add(parent)'.

2. Bug (autohide):
Disabling autohide before elements are added leads to weird behavior. E.g.
there's just one index A.

econnman, the python script, is not part of E17 release.

I reproduced this only in the first days of the new connman module

please send more info/bt to get it fixed asap.

  2. Many times when I change the default gateway, it disables my

probably a connman/econnman bug... so not really related to connman
  module in E.

  3. If you enter wrong wifi password, there's no way to undo /
  delete /
reenter a new password (breaker, #1766)

yep... this is in my/Bruno's todo list. CC'ing him.

  4. Ofono support has been dropped completely ? Or at least there
  is no module.
The wiki/documentation on ofono website is a joke / nonexistant.
So how do I connect to 3G ?

Plug the dongle. If it's supported by oFono, a network (service
  in
connman's terminologies) will appear with a 3G icon. Click in it
  to
connect as for any other service. There's no need for an explicit
oFono module. If we need anything more than connecting (like
  setting
APN and friends), maybe they could be absorbed by connman module.

  5. Need to be able to add static routes (#1639)

not in my near term TODO list of features to add.

  6. Need to be able to add vpn (#1639)

not in my near term TODO list of features to add.

  7. I don't use proxy, but I expect some people would need that too
  (currently it's marked as todo)

Maybe it will be done before e17 release, but no promises.

  8. How about dialup modems ?

not in my near/mid/long term TODO list of features to add.

  9. It would be nice if the module icon would reflect the signal
  strength.

Bruno is working (or will work, not sure) on it.

Good afternoon,

I'm terribly sorry about the delay, I've not had much free time to spend on
this.
I mistakenly thought that connman module and the econnman script were
interlinked.

Unfortunately, on the ofono front, when plugging in a zte usb dongle... nothing
happens.
It is theoretically supported. This is the output of list-modems.

Please excuse that I don't really know my way around this stuff.
This is a dongle I was lent for testing, with a valid (but creditless) 3g SIM
card.
It could be something I'm doing / have done wrong.

On the saving wireless side, econnman does have a forget network button.
However this is replaced by bad password or similar text when you enter bad
password, so the button is not available.

On the bt side:
I had a crash earlier, but was unable to get a backtrace, since it was being
traced my enlightenment_start.
Having updating all libs / E etc earlier and having only restarted E, maybe the
crash is related to that.
I had no wsod, and with the instructions on the debugging page I had no luck.
Please note I am not a developer so I'm not all too familiar with gdb and it's
usage.

Thanks in advance,

By the properties above the modem is not online. Connman should drive
it to online automatically if the technology is enabled. In connman
module we *currently* don't have a way to enable/disable technologies,
except for wifi. Try enabling it and see if it works. Otherwise try to
put the modem online manually trough the script provided by ofono.
Then we think about what to do.

  Good afternoon,

I'm terribly sorry about the delay, I've not had much free time to
  spend on this.
I mistakenly thought that connman module and the econnman script
  were interlinked.

Unfortunately, on the ofono front, when plugging in a zte usb
  dongle... nothing happens.
It is theoretically supported. This is the output of list-modems.

By the properties above the modem is not online. Connman should drive
it to online automatically if the technology is enabled. In connman
module we *currently* don't have a way to enable/disable

except for wifi. Try enabling it and see if it works. Otherwise try
 to
put the modem online manually trough the script provided by ofono.
Then we think about what to do.

Ok,

well 0 == dont expand. 0 == expand. unlike a boolean though, this is a
weighting of expansion. something with a weight of 2 will expand by 2x as many
pixels as something with a weighting of 1. generally most code chooses 0 or 1
as thats all that matters, but you CAN do fine tuning with different values and
fractions - it's just odd to see 0.1 used.

Re: [E-devel] elm_index takes entire canvas space and autohide weirdness

 Hi there,

 1. Bug (space taken):
As the subject says, elm_index takes the entire canvas (horizontally xor
vertically) and thus renders e.g. it unusable with any ui that has e.g.
 buttons in the respective corners.

I think that it should be limited to the viewport size of its parent element
 à la 'elm_index_add(parent)'.

my testing says otherwise... rememebr parent is just the parent for CREATION
and logical ownership.. did you PACK index into something? eg a table? use a
table. put the object on top of which u want the index for in first, THEN pack
the index in the same table cell. it will be layered on top.. and it'll occupy
the same space as (eg the list) that its on top of... and it even gets clipped
to it... ALL the examples add it as a resize object to the window - but it can
be put anywhere... and it positions, sizes and clips - i just modified
elm_test's index test to do this and it works correctly.

what index DOESNT do is gracefully handle if # of items doesnt fit in the
space allowed - it doesn't go removing them... so it overflows and gets clipped
by the index region.

 2. Bug (autohide):
Disabling autohide before elements are added leads to weird behavior. E.g.
 there's just one index A.

e... no can reproduce... disabling or enabling it means all items exist -
at least in elm test's index code...

 Hello gentlemen,

after having the release burden being shared by only one or two people,
we've started talking and decided to create a team specifically for the
purpose of helping out with this process, more specifically releasing,
 testing and packaging.

The idea is to congregate people who are either already actively helping as
well as people who are interested in learning/helping out with that. I've
just finished with my first attempt at spinning the tarballs and they have
already been uploaded. We're going to work in documenting everything and
coming up with a proper procedure for doing this as automatically as
 possible.

Really nice initiative, guys.

For everyone interested, please join the mailing list here:

The reason to spin a new 1.7.2 release of the EFL was to have E17 building
properly again with a released version of the EFL. The idea is to do the
proper release announcement tomorrow, so everyone who can test these
tarballs *please* do so. The only packages which had changes after the last

Why this line was added? Button consumes the half of the window.
I think it's added by mistake, I removed it.

it was not a mistake. i did it so the button area would use 1/2 the window
height so you could easily SEE the index being clipped.

OK, it can be one of the many test cases, but as the first index test it
doesn't look good to me because developers will refer that code.
I will add another test case to show how to clip the index then.
Thanks.

this just looks like a bug.
i will add another test case to show this clipping stuff.

 Hi,

I just created a small GUI window based in Elementaryxx. I'll
show an shot of my problem and some C++ code here. But I'm
sure same problem would exist in C code.

Now I placed the table into a box to put some OK button below
and see what happens:

http://s14.postimage.org/l5cpt0w8x/box_table.jpg

Here my code:
http://codepad.org/gizsYHo4

As result I don't see any entries and align of the widgets has
changed. But I expected just to put some OK/Cancel button at the
end of the window. How do you suggest to do this?

odd though - why do u choose weight of 0.1 for the labels
horizontally? dont u want 0? this kind of packing should work just
fine though... i know it's used elsewhere in em_test... ?

I use 0.1 because then it looks as expected. If I use 0 then it's
  not ok.

  http://s17.postimage.org/xly8omwgf/set_Size_Hint_Weight.jpg

Even if I set only one widget to

  setSizeHintWeight (0, EVAS_HINT_EXPAND);

well 0 == dont expand. 0 == expand. unlike a boolean though, this
is a weighting of expansion. something with a weight of 2 will expand
by 2x as many pixels as something with a weighting of 1. generally
most code chooses 0 or 1 as thats all that matters, but you CAN do
fine tuning with different values and fractions - it's just odd to
 see 0.1 used.

I tried 1 and it then the label is to large and takes space from the
really important widget (here: entry). So yes, it's a fine tuning. :-)
