Why does the Evas class implements the evas_common_interface (evas_get() for an evas handle?)? In this way, you can get evas from object without taking care if the object is evas or evas_object. On 11/20/2012 06:55 PM, Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri wrote: looking at evas/edje/elm: - Evas_Object_Smart: shouldn't it be NO INSTANT? Maybe in the future when people use Eo to create sub-classes as opposed to extending Evas_Smart_Class? We let it for compatibility with existent entities using smart, like e entities. In my opinion, we need to let it regular for backward compatibility forever or at least a lot of time. Yeah, I can see problems with existing code, too, but Gustavo's idea is the way to go. - elm_widget: NO INSTANT, just compat will be REGULAR. You are right, will be fixed. FYI no more compat because no one was supposed to inherit from elm object before the porting. Yep, no instance of elm widget. Compat is long dead, don't worry about it. I'm curious to see these new signal, clickable, zoombable, draggable, selectable interfaces. The idea is good. - elm_box should share something with evas box, now that we have eo, same for table - elm_layout should share with edje - elm_image, elm_thumb could share with evas_image Ack, ack and ack. And I am not sure it is good for code comprehension. You can do a lot of good things with object oriented, but you can do disasters too. I have seen C++ code simply unreadable. We have to put limits to creativity. Particularly I think that elm_widget should be an interface and not a class, then you compose an elm_image from Evas_Object_Image with Elm_Widget. There is no need to have the Evas_Smart as we do have now, it's just there because we lacked tools. Indeed. With Eo in, we could get rid of Evas_Smart for good, keeping Evas_Object_Smart as a class only until we have no more 'oficial' users of it, and deprecating it ASAP. We could even move the smart virtuals/funcs of evas_object_smart up to Evas_Object, making the smart implementations of rectangle/image etc to link to that internal code. One day, we thought about that fusion, but as we say in hebrew, cow cow, so let's go slowly because it is not a side change. It is some Small change, big bug. Also some others could be made mixin, file-selector button is both a file selector and a button to launch it. Same for fileselector. Yep. Some of those could have been made more sane class-hierarchy-wise during my work -- the hell was THEME API BREAKING. Until we can be free to break them, it's hard. I know some of my suggestions will require deeper changes and may not be doable right now, but it's good to keep in mind. We focused for the moment on the Eo porting without changes on the design. And I don't want to imagine rebase ;-). More, we don't have enough deep knowledge to know what is supposed to be a mixin ... (as you wrote just before) so I think help will be needed from outside to do it. Mmm, I remember Tasn was very confident of its meaning/uses. Also, your image says elm_interface_scrollable is a mixin: what does it mix, coming just from scrollable_interface? It contains all the implementation of the scrollable interface common functions (i.e what was already there). We already thought about file_selector_button change, the others were not obvious for us. Thank you for the tip. Too, we will create a new interface for item management because a lot of classes have the same item management operations (behavior is different but a common API can be found). As for the overall picture, it seems correct, but I did not compare it with other references so I may have missed something. I think i should explain why this patch actually works :) Some macros used this way: p = EVRY_PLUGIN_BASE(Settings, configure, E_SETTINGS, _begin, _finish, _fetch); and the macro is defined like this: /* creates a Evry_Plugin to be registered with evry */ #define EVRY_PLUGIN_BASE(_name, _icon, _item_type, _begin, _finish, _fetch) \ evry-plugin_new(EVRY_PLUGIN(E_NEW(Evry_Plugin, 1)), _name, _(_name), _icon, $ _begin, _finish, _fetch) so the _name argument (string Settings in this case) is used two times in evry-plugin_new() call and one of these times it is used inside _(), so the _name is actually translated by gettext. The same happens with EVRY_ACTION_NEW which is defined in the similar manner: #define EVRY_ACTION_NEW(_name, _in1, _in2, _icon, _action, _check) \ evry-action_new(N_(_name), _(_name), _in1, _in2, _icon, _action, _check) But i'm not sure if this a best solution of the problem, so comments are welcome :) If the patch is ok, then similar changes should be made to E-MODULES-EXTRA/everything-* modules as well. -- Igor -- Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single web console. Cheers, Nobody interested in eve in E17? hell, yes :-) But i fear that a lot of dev are in holidays or quite busy. I'm myself quite busy too with the merge for e17 release - not interested. for AFTER e17 - yes. for on the road to e18, e19 etc. for having a set of useful every day apps that use efl - yes, but simply focusing on e17 right now and well al my usual work on efl too and what not. Personally I'm kinda worried about the depth and breadth of dependencies for eve. I tried once to get it compiled, and gave up at what seemed to be a never ending dependency hell. Also, I suspect one of the dependencies infected everything with GPL 3, but I'd have to look into that to be sure. These are webkit dependencies, not eve's. Eve depends on webkit though, thus webkits dependencies are eve dependencies. Hence my reference to depth, the dependencies go deep. I've updated my OS to something from this year, so might be worthwhile trying that again. Based on the theory that there might be more of the dependencies minimum versions supplied by Ubuntu 12.04 than 10.04 did, and not have so much to compile from scratch. I doubt you'll be able to. See my email to both edevel and webkit-efl mailing lists regarding the dependencies. I have some pending patches from Gustavo to reduce the minimum versions required that I plan to submit upstream, but according to http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/EFLWebKit it still depends on unreleased libs like glib, glib-networking and libsoup. [E-devel] E17 Lost Windows bugs.
Sometime last week zmike asked me to take a deeper look into lost windows feature, I did and I found a few bugs, i've fixed them a few days ago, some guys on IRC told me zmike is sick, so hope he feels better soon, anyhow here is my patch to fix the bugs i found. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7371269/lost_windows_update.patch and here is the ticket I created. http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/ticket/1821 I hope it's applied before the next ALPHA. [E-devel] elm_index takes entire canvas space and autohide weirdness
Hi there, 1. Bug (space taken): As the subject says, elm_index takes the entire canvas (horizontally xor vertically) and thus renders e.g. it unusable with any ui that has e.g. buttons in the respective corners. I think that it should be limited to the viewport size of its parent element à la 'elm_index_add(parent)'. 2. Bug (autohide): Disabling autohide before elements are added leads to weird behavior. E.g. there's just one index A. -- Leif -- Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single web console. On the saving wireless side, econnman does have a forget network button. However this is replaced by bad password or similar text when you enter bad password, so the button is not available. On the bt side: I had a crash earlier, but was unable to get a backtrace, since it was being traced my enlightenment_start. Having updating all libs / E etc earlier and having only restarted E, maybe the crash is related to that. I had no wsod, and with the instructions on the debugging page I had no luck. I'll show an shot of my problem and some C++ code here. But I'm sure same problem would exist in C code. Now I placed the table into a box to put some OK button below and see what happens: http://s14.postimage.org/l5cpt0w8x/box_table.jpg Here my code: http://codepad.org/gizsYHo4 As result I don't see any entries and align of the widgets has changed. But I expected just to put some OK/Cancel button at the end of the window. How do you suggest to do this? odd though - why do u choose weight of 0.1 for the labels horizontally? dont u want 0? this kind of packing should work just fine though... i know it's used elsewhere in em_test... ? I use 0.1 because then it looks as expected. If I use 0 then it's not ok. http://s17.postimage.org/xly8omwgf/set_Size_Hint_Weight.jpg Even if I set only one widget to setSizeHintWeight (0, EVAS_HINT_EXPAND); well 0 == dont expand. 0 == expand. unlike a boolean though, this is a weighting of expansion. something with a weight of 2 will expand by 2x as many pixels as something with a weighting of 1. generally most code chooses 0 or 1 as thats all that matters, but you CAN do fine tuning with different values and fractions - it's just odd to see 0.1 used. I tried 1 and it then the label is to large and takes space from the really important widget (here: entry). So yes, it's a fine tuning. :-) -- Technical Blog http://andreasvolz.wordpress.com/ -- Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single web console.
