There is a way to see all the themes that apply to enlightenment. If you go into the enlightenment app http://exchange.enlightenment.org/application/show/4 and scroll down, it shows a list of themes that apply to it. You still lack some nice icons for most of things (battery, cpu, ...) and I'd like another clock, but the theme itself feels smooth and fluid. Themes are tricky. But its just a matter of documentation really. Rasters new theme is chock full of doc, and Ive started a blog on how to get some of the cooler effects for different Widgets and things. Also, if you check out my new Cerium theme, you can see a demonstration of the color_class idea I posted on the -devel list a while back. Basically lets the User re-colour the theme without having to bust open edje files and tweak images. Tho its not exactly going to change the appearance hugely, it will give people a little more control over their favorite theme. On a further note, Im trying to do different looks and effects across all my themes and license them accordingly so they can take aspects from all sorts of themes and merge them into their own work. Again, its just a matter of documenting the process. I wouldnt be too worried about 'Default copies' since people can simply rate the theme low, then sort highest to lowest on themes. Leave it up to the users to decide if content is 5 star or not. I know if someone starting out in themeing was to release something 1/2 done but still looked cool, theyd be happy to get some feedback on how theyre going and motivate them to do more. And on that note, if you DO see a default copy or a 1/2 done theme, dont knock the themer, but encourage them to try something different, and to keep at it. The idea behind Exchange has been discussed before amongst Get-E's staff, and they decided that a new platform, API, and being "part of the e.org" domain is what they wanted At this point, aside having a rock-solid and useful API, one of the challenges is to keep those themes up to date, and to try and get high quality themes in there (as opposed to copy / modify / paste themes). Those two points imo are what will make, or break, Exchange. That brings me to another point, E17 themes are way too tough for "normal artists" to develop, but thats a totally separate topic of discussion (= Personally, I can't wait to start hitting that refresh button in E17 and start seeing new theme previews roll in the "web portion" of the themes / resources dialog (to be). I don't see any problem here, too. As morlenxus said: exchange is intended to replace get-e. e17-stuff.org is third party, doesn't have any quality standards and is nothing more than a list with random themes, apps, and dozens of things that have nothing to do with E at all - nothing to care about. So there is (will be) one site, where's the problem? I still hope that exchange will get some kind of moderation, but altogether I like the idea and hope for a good integration into E itself. There are many, many ways one could think of to improve the state of things as far as "e and the web" goes, form the hard - like an e-webkit or e-mozilla, or a browser plugin and evolution of edje and the toolkits that would allow for those to be like Flex&Flash (ie. e based web-content and "rich internet apps"), to the simple like an e17-module that can download wallpapers. But there are also a lot of things in-between these, and up and down, and all sorts of combinations (some possibly requiring the harder stuff). Just to give you a simple one, imagine you have your favorite e image viewer desktop app, and it's really cool-looking, and can search for images in your drive, and whatnot.. But, if it were easy to make this app "web-enabled", you could have it do much, much more. You could have it notify you of updates to the app itself, of new themes from selected sites, of new plugins (assuming it has such things), and it could keep a list of fav sites related to wallpapers, images, etc. and allow you to view such images on those sites, download if possible, share with selected people, .. There's a ton of stuff that app could do if it were easy for it to be "web-enabled", both content wise with general and/or selected sites or contacts, and for the app itself (updates, plugins, themes, docs, tutorials, ...). Most any app, with good supporting sites, could become much, much richer. But there need to be mechanisms to make it easy for developers to add such functionality and for sites to cooperate with. On the topic of e17-stuff, it is an unmoderated, poorly maintained website. I think exchange is a much better place than e17-stuff for submitting and browsing in general. Personally, ive taken all my content of e17-stuff for various reasons. On the topic of get-e, i like it. Its great, full of cool things and morlenxus does a great job. But theres alot of unmaintained content there and lack of feedback. That said, a total overhaul of get-e would be needed anyway to keep it in line with the other things on *.enlightenment. The submission process is alot like get-e too, where the content is screened by a mod first. If anything, i would call it an evolution of get-e. [E-devel] Exchange - A new place to trade themes and showcase applications and modules.
Ladies and Gentlemen! We are proud to announce the launch of Exchange: http://www.exchange.enlightenment.org This is a new website for exchanging themes, efl based applications and modules for these applications. It was built specifically for E, and therefore takes advantage of some of the features of edje to automatically detect themes and allow users to find themes for exactly what they want to theme. Its also a nice place to showcase your applications and will hopefully become a central location for people to look for EFL based apps. We ask that developers and themers all spend a couple minutes looking around, create an account and upload some content as the only work on there so far is a few modules and all of my work.
