Sometimes I have an application open on screen 0, but need to move it to

I think the most X programms have the -d flag for DISPLAY. There you
can tell them on which DISPLAY ( Monitor-Screen ) the programm should
be placed. I use this for some programms. ie:

Eterm -d :0.1 -g 141x12+0+798 --borderless -e leo $( xclip -o) exit
# leo is another script from me, it just searches dict.leo.org

or in short, to open Eterm on my Second screen: Eterm -d :0.1

I have made the experiece that you have to check first on which screen
your focus is and then adapt the display. In my case :0.0 or :0.1

Hi,

Of course I'll have to test the behavior for each process, like the
firefox/firefox-bin you mentioned. But the script won't need to do the
(in my opinion) hardest part, of finding out the pid for that specific
window I want, the pid will already be defined inside each script.
So now what I really need is to find out how to send a signal to focus
a window (given that I know the window's pid or process name), maybe
someone can help me with that.
@ e16:
eesh window_list
could be your friend. With the information provided there you could focus the
window with:
eesh win_op windowid focus

For more information see: eesh help win_op

Another approach that I use is, every virutal desktop contains one
application, ie: Desk1 Shell, Desk2 Firfox, Desk3 Thunderbird
With this setup you can switch to the application by switchting to the
right desktop -- But I like your approach as well ;)

Is it also possible on E17?
With xgl, it should.

And how can I do it with E16?

[...]
At that time Kim mentioned that this feature is possible in 16.8. Now
I am running 17, and wonder if this feature is as well possible here.

 there are
   screen_send_to
 and
   screen_send_by
actions you can bind keys to :) parameter is an integer for the screen to
 focus/send the mouse to.
The first try with
enlightenment_remote -binding-key-add ANY asciicirum ALT 0
screen_send_to 1
ended in a segfault. I have to figure out why this happend.

Is there a way to toggle between the 2 Screens, cause I am used to ONE
Keyboardshortcut where I can toogle between the screens, ie:
ALT + asciicirum - switch to screen 1
ALT + asciicirum - switch to screen 0
ALT + asciicirum - switch to screen 1

Otherwise as workaround I could create a script that set the
keybinding everytime new, ie set the screen_send_to to 0 or 1. But how
do I access a shortcut with a script :P

[e-users] Accessing programms

2006-04-16 Thread J. Erik Heinz
Hi,

I search for a nice and comfortable way to access programs. I have
configured my keybindings.cfg to access the most common programms --
so thats fine. But some programms I use not so often I have to access
by the 'user menu'. I configured already so that I can access it via a
keystroke, but I am not realy happy with it. I think cause I have to
navigate through the 'user menu' with the arrow keys (they are to far
away ;) ).

How do you access your programms? Do you know some nice programms?

I'm using enlightenment-0.16.7.2_2 on FreeBSD. Seems very nice - just one
thing I really miss from my old fvwm2 setup. I want a simple mouse click
to push a window down - to lower it.

I know about Alt-Right click and select from a menu but that's
just too much fuss. I want my good old Alt-Left mouse click to do a
 lower.

You have to create a entry in .enlightenment/keybindigs.cfg like this:

__ACLASS __BGN
  __NAME BUTTONBINDINGS
...
...
  __NEXT_ACTION
__EVENT __MOUSE_PRESS
__BUTTON 3
__MODIFIER_KEY __NONE
__ACTION __A_MAX_HEIGHT available
...

This actually will resize the window to the max height of the screen.
You have to replace the __ACTION with the apropriate commando. I now
there is a lower kommand, cause i saw it in the e16keyedit.

Btw, is there somewhere a list of all the commands for the
keybindings.cfg. Would be nice to have an overview. Than it is not a
pain in the ass to modify he keybindigs.cfg ;)

It dont have to be a good looking list, i just want the commands, even
when they are spread in serveral files, it would be good to know in
which one.

[e-users] Keybindings e16

2005-05-16 Thread J. Erik Heinz
Hi,

is there a way to have other Keymodifier then CTRL, ALT, SHIFT and
their combinations?
I tried __MODIFIER_KEY __F12 in the keybindings.cfg, but it didn't
work.

I don't know of existing applications that can move the pointer, but
it's quite trivial to write one :)

Writing an application should not be a problem, but I have no glue
with which resources/libraries i should work or where I should start.
Should be written in C/C++ I think.

It would be about 10-15 lines of C-code, but if you can use e16.8, it's
 already in there.
So let's try the other alternative. Do you have some hints with which C
libraries I should look at or start? Right now I never touched C but,
should not be the Problem, I have some expierience in PHP, PERL, Java,
Tcl..

How do you like FreeBSD? I've been thinking about giving it a try.

 I'm running Slackware myself.
I like it - especially the ports-collection. I don't know if you a
confirm with the ports. It's like the debian apt-get or gentoo. Or let's say
they've taken the idea from FreeBSD.
2 days ago I installed Tomcat. it was just a oneliner:
make install clean
That's amazing. If you need a program just search the ports and
install it. Until now I did not need to compile anything from the

The enlightenment in the ports work fine, but i need a feature that's
only in 16.8 thats why i want to grade up.

If you need a linux program you have as well the choice to enable the
linux-support. So you can install linux binary an work with it - if
you need.

BACK to my PROBLEM:
to comment out the PKG_CHECK_MODULES did just work for the folder e.
Under e16keyedit I got more complicated erros. So I tried e17 from the
Ports. Could perhaps work, but:

I checked the cvs - there is no Makefile.in???

Is it generated during the autogen.sh ?

[e-users] Eterm and less|more|man

2005-03-02 Thread J. Erik Heinz
Hi,

I have some trouble with eterm and some textviewers: less, more and
man (I think man uses less, but I am not sure). When I start to read a
manpage - ie man foo - it works fine when i am scrolling down. But
when I trie to scroll up it doesn't work at all. It looks like the
first line is the only line that scrolls up, but still stay at the
same position. So you just can read on line - thats realy annoying.
If i try to go to the top with gg i just get a clean (just the
background) screen.

I've seen this behaviour on FreeBSD and Debian. On both systems I use
the same config (see below). After the config I pasted my Eterm
--version.

Would be nice if someon has an idea to solve this problem

[e-users] Twinview - select desktop

2005-02-27 Thread J. Erik Heinz
Hi list,

I just figgured it out to run Twinview on my machine. I've got 2
Desktops each on 1 Monitor (xorg.conf: Option Xinerame off). Now I
want to switch between the 2 Desktops via a keyboard shortcut. I
looked at eesh help but i didn't find a appropriate feature to get
the current Desktop on the current screen.
Any ideas?

Another problem is the placement of the second desktop. I'm not sure
if it is a E problem, seems to be a X configuration thing, but perhaps
has somebody an idea.
On my second desktop (on the second Monitor) 10 pixels on the left are
missing. They are hidden under the left Margin of my monitor. When I
open a window in Fullscreen, the Close Button on the Window Titlebar
is not visible. This is annoying.
Any idea how i can fix this?

Greetings
Erik
