Exchange 5.5 Server
I needed some advice on whether I should begin plans to implement a 2nd Exchange server. Here is the current setup. At present there are 625 mailboxes (not including Distribution lists or custom recipients) on the Exchange server. The daily differential is approximately 51GB and the weekly full run every Friday is about 88GB (consisting of 2 tapes). We backup both the info store and each individual mailboxes during the diff and full backups. Is there an approximate point when you need to start looking at adding a second exchange server? RE: Exchange 5.5 Server
If you have sufficient hardware, you are no where close to taxing your server as of yet. Have you been experiencing slow-downs other than your rather large backup window? Most likely you are still fine with what you have. One thing I would suggest however is ditching the Brick Level Backup. You are doing nothing but backing up the entire store twice, and it has been proven time and time again that Brick Level Backups are just not worth the tape they consume. -Troy -Original Message- From: Sethi, Ali [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2001 9:03 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Exchange 5.5 Server I needed some advice on whether I should begin plans to implement a 2nd Exchange server. Just do a properties of the default.htm document on IIS server which is hosting mail.xo.com. Tell it to point to the /exchange directory, a redirection. Then it will point to mail.xo.com/exchange without having to add the exchange. Is that what you wanted to know? Title: Message Look at InTechnology. We moved a client from Arcserve to their solution. Everything is now wonderful and no tapes. http://www.intechnology.co.uk. Arghserve was a nightmare. It didn't back everything up, even on NT Server, let alone Exchange. As for support, let me know when you get some. We're still waiting for three replies from their labs. This is the longest 24 hours I've ever encountered. Good Luck. If you go Arcserve, you'll need all you can get. Ok. We've had this argument for a few days. If a user sends an email, and it wasn't supposed to be sent, how can they get it back? She swears that she's recieved an email from someone in the past and she wasn't supposed to get it, it was confidential. However, after several hours the email came up with a line in it and Outlook said she couldn't look at it. Too me it sounds a like time sensitive email, and after certain amount of time it freezes up. Is there a way to retract an email once it's been sent? If so, any white papers on this? RE: Automatically creating signature in Outlook
I agree signatures are not that difficult, but we deploy everything by GPO we lock down desktops, we use CMAK for connections, etc etc. Therefore, the users have to do very little I don't want users to have to start manually changing things with the chance of not reading the mail, not actioning the mail or doing it wrong and calling the helpdesk. Therefore if I can do it automatically I know it will be deployed. Meeting requests, personal folders and delivery locations
Hello, [Exchange Server 5.5/Outlook 2000] The default mail delivery location of a user's mailbox was set to a personal folder due to limited assigned space on the Exchange server. For this reason (Technet Q197273), accepted meeting requests were automatically updated in the calendar where the default inbox is located, this means the PST's calendar, which cannot be seen by other people. According to the article's explanation, the default delivery location has been modified to the mailbox on the Exchange server. Due to the same limited assigned space on the Exchange server, a rule has been created to automatically move all the messages from the default inbox to the PST's inbox, which means that meeting requests are again updated in the PST's calendar... Is there any possibility in this scenario to keep only the meeting requests in the default inbox or must incoming mail be delivered to the mailbox on the Exchange server for an appropriate use of updated meeting requests in the calendar located on the server ? Thanks in advance ! Sincerely regards, Linux, because rebooting is for adding new hardware... RE: Calendar issues
Title: Message There's a difference. When you open up the account you are directly accessing the calendar. When you schedule a meeting from another account, you are looking at the published Free/Busy information, which according to certain client-side settings, may not contain more than 2 months ahead of the current date. Create NT accounts for the resource accounts and sign onto a PC with that account. Go into Outlook with the resource account as the primary mailbox, and set the Outlook parameters for Free/Busy publishing. To take care of everybody else, put the following into the logon script (assuming OL2K, tweak the values for your environment): %0\..\REG ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Preferences /v FBPublishRange /t REG_DWORD /d 0x000c /f%0\..\REG ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Preferences /v FBUpdateSecs /t REG_DWORD /d 0x0384 /f -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2001 2:22 PMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: RE: Calendar issues I'll be danged. Was just starting to research something similiar. If we open up our meeting room, we can schedule months in advance. If we invite the same meeting room from within our calendar, there's no data available. -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2001 11:18 AMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: Calendar issues I am not sure how to ask this question or word it so I will list the problem. Problem: When a user creates an appointment request or meeting request, no calendar information is shown when you go to availability. But When you use the File Open other's calendar, the scheduled information shows up. I know in outlook there is a registry entry for controlling the cache usage and you have three options. But I can repeat the problem in all versions of outlook, and in outlook machines that have and that do not have the Registry change. I am not sure even how to trouble shoot this. Question with Exchange and AD Setup
Title: Problem sending to particular domain (SOLVED) Hey Guys Gals, Quick question, in AD if we create Child Domains will the E2K servers we setup have all our users corporate wide or just the users in that Child Domain. Is there any performance advantage to using Child Domains for E2K? The only connection to the internet is at corporate headquarters so the Child Domains will have to use that T1 to send emails out. Is this a sensible option or should we look at making OUs for our satellite sites with DCs and E2K backup servers. Please let me know.
