RE: public folder replication question

2008-02-05 Thread Tom Strader
This may answer your question Andy...

Populating the New Server with Data

Configure Public and System Folder Replication

Before moving users you should configure the public folder data to
replicate. This not only includes public folders but also system
folders. If possible use the Exchange 2003 ESM (Exchange System Manager)
as this is a little more advanced. When you open ESM on the Exchange
2003 system make sure you are looking at the original server by Right
clicking on Public Folders and choosing Connect to and selecting the
original server.

Configure the public folders on the replication tab in ESM so that both
servers are listed. Use the Propagate settings where appropriate to send
the replication setting to the sub folders.

If you have a large number of folders then you may want to look at the
pfmigrate.wsf tool. More information on this script can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822895
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822895
However be careful with this script or setting large numbers of folders
to replicate. That could generate high levels of traffic on your network
and slow down the performance of your existing Exchange server.

RE: public folder replication question

2008-02-05 Thread Simon Butler
No.
You need to propagate the settings down. Easily done with ESM - right click on
the top level folder and choose Manage Settings. Then choose overwrite settings
and select Replicas.

Another option would be to use the pfmigrate script (download from Microsoft)
which does the same thing, but by selecting the group of folders to replicate
you can ensure that the process doesn't use all the bandwidth available.

Take a look at my migration guide: http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp

One of our users somehow has his Outlook set up to delete messages
immediately (bypassing the deleted items box). I'm sure this is a
setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Outlook help is less than
helpful. I am not one with the Google-fu today either. Does someone

RE: The messages are being deleted immediately instead of going to Deleted Items...

2008-02-05 Thread Kretche, Peter
Is the user doing a delete in place by doing shift+delete? You may want to
visit the Outlook User Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/outlook-users/.
If you post a question to the group some Outlook guru will get back to you. Or
try Sue Mosher's help site of http://www.slipstick.com.

One of our users somehow has his Outlook set up to delete messages
immediately (bypassing the deleted items box). I'm sure this is a
setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Outlook help is less than
helpful. I am not one with the Google-fu today either. Does someone
have an answer?

Oh, I disagree TVK. Even though I wanted the Pats to win, it was a great
football game, NY earned that win. Intense competition, very exciting,
probably one of the best Superbowl games in a very long time IMHO ;)

Yes you can delete bypassing the folder by holding shift+del, but if you
have deleted item retention on in Exchange, you can restore those
deleted items from the folder deleted by going to Deleted Item Recovery.
Search Outlook dumpster on google and you will find the registry to add
to enable it in Outlook.

RE: List Down?

2008-02-05 Thread Tim Vander Kooi
I'm from Oklahoma and couldn't have cared less about the game or who
won, I watched just to be entertained. That's why the fact that the game
itself was boring and poorly played (I mean come on Brady looked like a
2nd string high school quarterback the way he misfired all over the
place) with the exception of the first 2 drives and the last 2 drives.
And the commercials with 1 or 2 exceptions were WAY below what I have
come to expect from Super Bowl ads. There was just no originality there
this year.

You can do a rule to Permanently delete a message, but it is a client
side rule so Outlook must be running for it to work.

That was it. Stupid @[EMAIL PROTECTED] views. I thought Outlook had an option
to
bypass the Deleted Items folder (besides holding down shift). Wasn't
that in an earlier version?

Could it be a simple View issue, and not a deleting issue?

One of our users somehow has his Outlook set up to delete messages
immediately (bypassing the deleted items box). I'm sure this is a
setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Outlook help is less than
helpful. I am not one with the Google-fu today either. Does someone
have an answer?

It was the Giants defense that caused Brady to be off balance all
game. Outstanding effort on their part. Sorry couldn't see the
commercials so no comment on that.

right down to the wire - including the Superbowl. Over-all I think its
been the most enjoyable to watch season I have ever seen - although that

Commercials were horrible I thought, and I'm from Texas..Brady wasn't
getting protection from his offensive line most of the time which is for the
most part why his accuracy wasn't up to normal. That's not an excuse mind
you, it's a compliment to the Giants defense.

I'm not wanting to start a religion debate, I'm just saying that maybe
there are few exceptions to the rule, and I for one respected his

And no - I dont care for a weather report from AZ or NY. Its overcast

The game was so boring I fell asleep in 2nd half!

Live backup Ex2k3 at secondary site, any suggestions?

2008-02-05 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec
We are running Ex2k3 at our primary site, and receive mail for domain.com

We are connected to our secondary site via a 3mb MPLS link; primary internet
connection is 6 mb, secondary has 3mb.

Want we want to do is bring up a backup Ex2k3 at the secondary, and receive
mail for domain.net

Then, in a disaster, toggle the secondary to be able to receive both (we use
ATT dns).

Any pitfalls? Any way to keep the two sync'ed up hot?

Thanks

Major league sports of all kinds, including motor sports, are the
replacement for the traditional opiate of the masses, and nearly as
pernicious, superseded only by television in their damage to the
 world's collective intellect.

If you aren't participating or learning something useful, it's not
 worth watching.

Outlook 2003 Rule (Exchange 2007)

RE: Outlook 2003 Rule (Exchange 2007)

2008-02-05 Thread McCready, Robert
The problem with an Edge Transport Rule is that it would have to be setup for
every user. We are trying to have the individual users set this rule up on a
case by case basis.

We have a machine out front of the building that guests can sign into, and an
email will then automatically notify an employee that they have a visitor.
Some people want that email to be forwarded to their pager, just in case they
are not sitting at their desk when the visitor arrives.

Subject: Exchange 2007 Replication Capabilities

Hello All,

I'm looking for some real-world feedback on Exchange 2007 replication
capabilities. I have to be honest and start out by saying I haven't done any
significant research on the subject. I'm simply looking for feedback from
you all that are using Exchange 2007 and have implemented some type of
replication.

We're currently moving forward with the implementation of an out-of-state
data center somewhere in the pacific northwest (we're in Alaska). The idea
behind this data center is Active/Active, meaning, the PNW can operate
separately on the PNW data center and then failover to the Alaska Data
Center if there was some type of major disasterand vice versa. We're
just now in the planning stages and I'm just trying to get a head start on
what options may or may not be available to us regarding Exchange.

We're currently running Exchange 2003 and I'm leaning towards recommending
an upgrade to Exchange 2007 prior to researching any type of
Geo-clustering/Replication solutions for Exchange 2003. Any thoughts?

Note: All I know about connectivity between sites is a 10MB link.

- Sean

As long as you don't have a problem with anyone now being able to set a
rule to forward anything to anywhere.

If you know the domains where the pager email gateways are you might
want to consider adding those remote domains and setting the option for
just those domains.

RE: Outlook 2003 Rule (Exchange 2007)

2008-02-05 Thread McCready, Robert
Would I just right click Hub Transport, select New Remote Domain, and then put
something like vtext.com (for Verizon wireless) or archwireless.net in the
Domain Name box? I'm assuming that the most specific Domain name would apply
to email that is being sent? So, when Exchange 2007 has two Remote Domains
listed, one being * and the second being archwireless.net, that only emails
addressed to archwireless.net will use Remote Domain number 2, and will never
be filtered through Remote Domain number one (with the *), correct?

As long as you don't have a problem with anyone now being able to set a rule to
forward anything to anywhere.

If you know the domains where the pager email gateways are you might want to
consider adding those remote domains and setting the option for just those
domains.

You need to enable automatic fowarding on the default remote domains
configuration. EMC Click Org Config Hub Transport Remote Domains Select
the Remote Domain Properties Message Format Message Format Options.

Is this a client-side rule?

You said Exchange 2007. This opens up so many opportunities...

If I setup a Rule to Forward all email from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to a

pager I have setup in Exchange (page-mylastname, my firstname), any email

from Johnny never gets forwarded to my pager. If I open my Inbox, and right

click the message and say FORWARD, then select page-mylastname, my firstname

from the Global Address List, it works just fine.

Does anybody know of any reason I wouldn't be able to create a rule

sayingforward email from Johnny to my pager?

Thanks.

That sounds right.

Basically, * is the default, and means any domain not explicitly
defined.

Stay the patient course.
Of little worth is your ire.
