Running PowerShell commands on my remote Admin box

2009-04-30 Thread Stefan Jafs
Ok, so I installed the Exchange Management Console for E2k7 on my re-bit Vista
PC.
I run a export to pst yesterday in the Exchange Powershell on my PC no problem,
no I'm trying to get mailbox stats:

Get-MailboxStatistics | Sort-Object TotalItemSize -Descending | ft
DisplayName,@{label=TotalItemSize(MB);expression={$_.TotalItemSize.Value.ToMB()}},ItemCount

However it's telling me I'm not a Exchange server, please specify the name of
a Mailbox server! Should it not know that automatically?
Anyhow how do I point to my mail server?

Thanks

Does the F5 do any kind of health check for CAS servers in the pool? I wouldn't
worry about the HT as that is internally load balanced by Exchange to a certain
extent.

The F5 *can* be setup for health checks, and if properly deployed *does*
have health checks in place so when the services go down the F5 will yank it
from the pool for x seconds before re-checking. We use F5's and don't do
squat with them when we patch.

Interesting that they use F5's between ISA and CAS as opposed to using ISA's
load-balancing...

And should we get into that percentage will you then be saying the
administration should've done more to prevent this from happening? Should've
done more to contain it! Should've been more prepared? The administration
didn't do enough to protect us? God forbid it should ever escalate beyond
where it is now, but still. I guess what's odd is that this strain is
different from others in the past and it's NOW effecting people in the
states where as a few days ago it was confined to Mexico city? Yet there's
still this ig-nor-ance of the fact that this is already a serious issue. I
guess we're giving ourselve something to complain about when / should things
get worse than they already are. I don't get it.

This is really getting out of hand, read the statistics folks, the yearly
average of people in the United States that die from influenza is close to
36,000. That's thirty six thousand people, yet we don't hear pandemic
fearmongering over that do we? No, this is blatant media manipulation to
cause widespread panic IMO. Is it serious, sure it is, but no more serious
than any other strain of influenza that happens every year in the US and
around the world. Do the common sense things that we all should be doing
any way and quit walking in fear over this. I'd like to know how many
people die in a year from the flu in Tarrant County TX, and we never hear
about it, nor do we close the entire school district for 7 school days
because of one confirmed case at one school, that did not result in a
death. (Ok, there are several other suspected cases in several other
schools, but not yet confirmed).

Ok, I'll quit my rant now, all the above is my personal opinion only.

This is really getting out of hand, read the statistics folks, the
yearly average of people in the United States that die from influenza is
close to 36,000. That's thirty six thousand people, yet we don't hear

And should we get into that percentage will you then be saying the
administration should've done more to prevent this from happening?

I don't think I said anything about any administration. As tempting as it
may be, I will not engage in political rhetoric on this list.

Are you saying that 0.4283% of the world's population (as of today
that's 10x the amount of confirmed cases of swine flu) is a
large/serious amount of cases???

Also extremely funny to hear the other reply about anti-bacterial products

RE: Very Important Swine Flu Tip

2009-04-30 Thread Murray Freeman
Actually, the so-called Swine flu is merely an attempt by the Obama
Administration to take attention away from the really important things
such as oh well, the economy! I think it's working because I just heard
a radio report that some experts now believe our economy has turned
the corner. In truth, Americans are not as well educated and as smart as
was once believed, and tend to panic easily. I've travelled to China 6
times in the last four years with side trips to Singapore and Tokyo.
It's amazing to see people wearing surgical masks on a regular basis
even when there is no pandemic panic. The Japanese are easily the most
panicky, and the Chinese second. My son and his family have lived in
China for 4 years and so far haven't had any illness. My wife and I
haven't had any problems either. People need to calm down!

Re: Very Important Swine Flu Tip

2009-04-30 Thread MarvinC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8024240.stm

A conspiracy theorist could look at this as a way for the government to
utilize resources to build infrastructures much like the one built to
support the bird flu from a few years ago. This was a good thing as it has
us in a better position NOW to handle any new events that may arise. Imagine
had we done nothing. I say anytime something spreads from one location to
another in rapid session it should be taken seriously. While the flu season
is starting and ending in various place around the world you can't blame the
media for shining a brighter than normal light on this issue. This strain
evolved from a small impoverished city and is now starting to affect people
all over the world in ways different from the normal flu. So while I don't
want to seem like the guy in a paniced crowd holding a sign reading the
wurld is At an Ind, him can't spell. :-) I also don't want to be the one
telling everyone to be calm when there's smoke filling the room. And last I
definitely don't want to be the one sitting around confused and trying to
figure out which one of them I should listen to. So I say stay alert and as
informed as possible. Hopefully the smart people in the labs will develop
a working vaccine and we'll be back to trying to figure out how many more
times will Air Force One be used for taking pictures.

Actually, the so-called Swine flu is merely an attempt by the Obama
Administration to take attention away from the really important things such as
oh well, the economy! I think it's working because I just heard a radio report
that some experts now believe our economy has turned the corner. In truth,
Americans are not as well educated and as smart as was once believed, and tend
to panic easily. I've travelled to China 6 times in the last four years with
side trips to Singapore and Tokyo. It's amazing to see people wearing surgical
masks on a regular basis even when there is no pandemic panic. The Japanese are
easily the most panicky, and the Chinese second. My son and his family have
lived in China for 4 years and so far haven't had any illness. My wife and I
haven't had any problems either. People need to calm down!

This is really getting out of hand, read the statistics folks, the yearly
average of people in the United States that die from influenza is close to
36,000. That's thirty six thousand people, yet we don't hear pandemic
fearmongering over that do we? No, this is blatant media manipulation to cause
widespread panic IMO. Is it serious, sure it is, but no more serious than any
other strain of influenza that happens every year in the US and around the
world. Do the common sense things that we all should be doing any way and quit
walking in fear over this. I'd like to know how many people die in a year from
the flu in Tarrant County TX, and we never hear about it, nor do we close the
entire school district for 7 school days because of one confirmed case at one
school, that did not result in a death. (Ok, there are several other suspected
cases in several other schools, but not yet confirmed).

Ok, I'll quit my rant now, all the above is my personal opinion only.

Removing E2000 server

2009-04-30 Thread Steve Hart

I'm on the very last step of my E2007 migration, so hopefully this is my last
scream for help. :)

I'm trying to remove Exchange 2000 from the last server and it's errored out on
an access denied message for three components. All with error 0XC0070005, which
translates to Access is denied. I thought I had all of the permissions I
needed, but obviously I'm wrong.

We have 3 trusted, 2003, peer-level domains, all in the same forest. This is
the last Exchange server of any version in this particular domain and the last
E2000 server in the forest. All of the mailboxes are moved to a new 2007 server
in a trusted domain. All of the public folders are replicated and the replicas
on this server are removed. The RUS connector couldn't be moved to an Exchange
server in a different domain, so the connector was removed. I've followed all
of the steps for removing the last legacy server from the domain.

Does anyone have a handy list of what AD groups I need to be a member of to
have proper permissions to uninstall Exchange from this server?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

RE: Very Important Swine Flu Tip

2009-04-30 Thread Joe Pochedley
The reason this swine flu is such a big deal is two-fold... 1) This is the
first time (recorded at least) that swine flu has transmitted human to human.
Further it's possible that this is an airborne strain. That make transmission
much easier. Considering that the flu as a 5-7 day asymptomatic incubation
period where a person may still be contagious, it's hard to tell who's infected
and contagious, further hindering the ability to limit the spread of the
disease. 2) Humans don't have the same type of 'natural' immunity to this
strain of flu which compared with A(H3) and A(H1) variants. This could mean
that the mortality rate _may_ be much higher than your standard flu (still to
be determined).

You put those things together, and the 36,000 US death rate may become 360,000.
That about 1% of the US population... Hopefully someone you love isn't part of
that 1%. If the virus mutates in such a way that it becomes more resistant to
anti-viral medication (Tamiflu at this point0, then there could be an ever
larger problem.

Yeah, it's actually a very impressive forum they have implemented. FuseTalk

And it has RSS, which also enables you to never have to browse through

RE: Removing E2000 server

2009-04-30 Thread Michael B. Smith
Almost certainly, this means that either ADC or SRS was not properly removed
from the domain prior to removing the last Exchange 2000 server.

Have you followed the advice in the KB article for How to Remove the Last
Exchange 2000 Server from the Administrative Group ??

From: Steve Hart [sh...@wrightbg.com]

Subject: Removing E2000 server

Thanks in advance,
Steve
