Well, 1.0.8 is available for Mac OS X 10.4 running on powerpc. There are some nontrivial issues getting newer version of ghc to build under 10.3. The version of darcs available for OS 10.3 is the newest version that fink's ghc can compile. There are also some nontrivial issues getting -any- version of ghc to build on intel machines. Anyway, if I understand correctly that means you have a working mutt.info file for one version or the other. Or should we (I?) try and make all the four versions I mentioned above before that? Well, I'm not sure what the point would really be of providing more than -ssl and non-ssl versions of mutt. If people don't want the header caching, then they can disable it in .muttrc. Or rather, they can not enable it. :-) Or should we wait for an answer from the maintainer? I really don't know what is the policy in this kind of situation. Typically if the maintainer is gone AWOL, someone else can adopt the package. [Fink-devel] configure errors: conftest is a directory
Hello all. I have a user on tiger who is getting the following error trying to build octave-forge: checking for ANSI C header files... rm: conftest: is a directory rm: conftest: is a directory rm: conftest: is a directory rm: conftest: is a directory This happens in multiple places, and then when the build starts none of the libraries were actually found. I can't replicate the problem (but I don't have Tiger, so that's no surprise). I googled around looking for clues, but the only thing I could find were references to using an old version of f77 on NetBSD on non-i386 machines. I'm confuzzled. On 2005-04-18, David R. Morrison wrote: Hi Martin. I had been very puzzled by those missing symbol problems, so I'm glad you figured it out. The timing is excellent, because we haven't pushed -fabi-version=1 into stable yet, or fully committed ourselves to the Tiger upgrade strategy which uses it. However, this discovery leaves us completely without a strategy for the Tiger upgrade. The only one I can imagine at the moment is to force users to run gcc_select=3.3 when running under the 10.4-transitional tree, and later having them run gcc_select=4 when switching to the 10.4 tree. Not a great strategy; maybe somebody will come up with a better one. Well, here's a suggestion: Does -fabi-version=1 work correctly under gcc4? Does it -actually- generate gcc3 compatible binaries? If so, could we set -fabi-version=1 for gcc4 machines? We'd probably want to just put this in the buildscript, that would avoid problems with SetCC and SetCXX. We'd put these bits before ./configure: test x$CC = x export CC=gcc test x$CXX = x export CXX=g++ test `$CC --version | head -n1 | cut -d -f3` = 4.0 export CFLAGS=$CFLAGS -fabi-version=1 test `$CXX --version | head -n1 | cut -d -f3` = 4.0 export CPPFLAGS=$CPPFLAGS -fabi-version=1 It's quite ugly. [Fink-devel] yacas and linking weirdness
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I'm working on writing an .info file for yacas. At this point, it compiles, but won't run because of linker oddness. Somehow this happens: w-102112:~$ otool -L /sw/bin/yacas /sw/bin/yacas: /sw/lib/libgmpnumbers.0.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0) /sw/src/root-yacas-1.0.56-1/sw/lib/libyacas.0.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0) /sw/lib/libyacasplatform.0.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 71.1.1) /sw/lib/libgmp.3.dylib (compatibility version 7.0.0, current version 7.3.0) As you can see, it's linked to a library in /sw/src, and shouldn't be. How do I make that go away? I'm having trouble getting my head around how it even happened in the first place. thanks, crh -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (Darwin) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFBUJpQHttEfMmUResRAgOwAJ9VMD36LVrpc13/fwQb6L8q0fsXegCfYjQh zFlLkgSyRHT81ZtSt8l8MbM= =Dvk0 -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: YOU BE THE JUDGE. Re: [Fink-devel] Re: A suggestion
Daniel E. Macks wrote: Corey Halpin [EMAIL PROTECTED] said: In working with my packages, I've written a little script that uses otool -L and dpkg -S to figure out what my package needs to depend on. Good idea. This approach gives packages that need not be specified explicitly (if they are dependencies of dependencies) but this gives a good starting point. Yeah. A starting point was all I was looking for. There's never going to be an automated way to verify that a package depends on all the right things, there are just too many ways to depend. You could call out to a program (from a script, or with some fork/exec from a program), you could do a perl use (or the same thing in your interpreted language of choice) , you could need to open a config file from another package... But if you have a binary that isn't statically linked, you'll be able to tell what it links to. There should be an automated way to make sure that the dependence tree rooted in your package does contain everything your binaries link to. I think. :-) *snip* Someone on -devel or #fink (perhaps jfm?) has a giant shell pipeline version of this (and that covers a lot of weird corner cases), that I encapsulated as fink-dep-check in my experimental dir. Cool. It didn't occur to me to look for (and through) people's experimental directories. If I were looking for your experimental dir, would I be able to find it in cvs somewhere? Or does it just live in your sandbox on your machine? thank you, crh --- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings Training. [Fink-devel] A suggestion
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 In working with my packages, I've written a little script that uses otool -L and dpkg -S to figure out what my package needs to depend on. I don't know my around fink (the program) well enough to add this myself, but I thought it might be helpful if there were something that did a trick like this one to verify that a .info depends on all the libraries it needs. Anyway, here's the little script I've been using: - #!/usr/bin/perl @files = `find . -type f -perm +111`; #run from the root-* directory of the package. @libs = `otool -L @files`; %depends; for $lib (@libs) { if ( $lib =~ m:(\t/sw/lib/.*\.dylib): ){ $tmp=`dpkg -S $1`; $tmp =~/(.*):/; $depends{$1}=1; } } for $key (keys %depends) { print $key\n; } - regards, crh -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (Darwin) iD8DBQFA3ZUOHttEfMmUResRAtxYAKCDbYDpiy6p8fwwHKvSAO07tFF19ACgjiAR DVM9LJ7olrMcx1rLMM2O/gE= =Pori -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings Training.
