Fjord for Sale and Thanks to Steve

2015-12-22 Thread Ursula Jensen
This message is from: "Ursula Jensen"

I must say the Fjord Digest had become my friend, as each AM after turning
on the computer, I was greeted by the Fjord Digest. With my coffee beside me
and the Fjord Digest to read, it was a great start on my day. I can honestly
say that Steve and the Fjord Digest have become one of the communication
Flagships for Fjord owners all over the world!! It was a place to learn,
grow, and yes sometimes even sell a Fjord Horse to a good home.

Technology has taken us forward to Face book etc. of which like Steve, I am
not on board. I will miss you old friend, but have many, many, good memories
to hold on to--Than You Steve, and the Digest.

Now a little business about a weanling colt here to be sold in 2016.

Trinity's Bjrio, a Brown Dun colt was foaled here last June. From day one,
he had a presence about himself which he still carries today. He is a leggy
Fjord with some height and a good shoulder angle. He has always had three
part harmony from front to back. Unusual for young Fjords in growth spurts.

His sire is Bastian Von Oderhoff, I imported from Germany, who now resides
in Texas. His Dam is Penfryds Rayetta from Kongard who was sired by
Myerstein in Holland. Very nice lineage on both sides of the coin. So if
someone is looking for a young stallion prospect you can contact us at
-ursu...@gmail.com or write to: Brian Jensen---1903---Trinity Valley
Road---Lumby-- B.C. VOE-2G4---Canada

Bjrio is presently ground trained age appropriate for halter and footwork.
If I put my finger on each leg he promptly picks up that foot for brushing
and inspection. A bright boy with nice manners.

He is presently in process of being Registered with the NFHR as a colt.

Christmas present Fjord for sale

2012-12-13 Thread Hope Carlson
This message is from: Hope Carlson hillsidefarm...@att.net

I do need to sell Kay.  Her mom Eve is serviceably sound again.  I cannot ride
two horses.  So I'd just as soon keep Eve who has more issues but I am
familair w. them and can manage them.  I don't want to pass that on to another
person.  Doc does say she is a good broodmare and still can be bred.  I know
she
enjoys it.  It was that email on nutrition from Mary on the biotin/methionine
that really worked for her.  Thanks.

So, Kay, is 7, 14 H, solidly built, as she is a daughter of Fair Acres Ole. 2
or
3 months of training w. Patti in WI as a late two year old.  Then now, she has
just come off of 5 mo. of western pleasure/trail/road riding. BIll Kmoch at
Denim Hill trained Eve.  With Kay, to adapt her to the disabled (me) rider or
beginner he taught her to stop if the rider looses the stirrups or the saddle
rocks too much.

Kay knows the basic moves for driving.  She has a new western saddle that fits
perfect and a smuckers pleasure harness w. upgrades that also fit her very well.

Very loving and sweet.  I'd love to keep her as my primary riding horse and Eve
for breeding.  The thing is I am getting older, in more pain.  I can't keep up
w. two horses.  It is funny, but Eve is jealous, she wants to be number one
with
me.  So it would work out for Kay to go on for more trail riding with groups.
I
have ridden her out away and she is not barn sour, doesn't jig or pull or
buck.
Her mom is the same way.

Reasonable. She has had an unusually good start. Oh, I wouldn't say she is a
raving show horse, but a wonderful family horse.  Sound of heart, mind and body.

Hope
N. IL
I can see WI from my windows!

Yes Gayle, she is an awesome, but spunky/forward mare. Definitely has the go
switch on, but is not an idiot at all, very sensitive smart.
I can't remember Pixie's owner's name but I judged them at a little CDE in
Bonanza, Or 2 seasons ago. It was not a recognized CDE, just an informal one
at my friend Valerie Greenwell's place. The place didn't have perfect footing,
even in the dressage arena and it was a pretty bouncy ride for her whip, and I
was blown away when she told me how old she was.
I think with a driver with intermediate or better experience, she really would
go places.

I recently received a call from a gal that had bought a filly from me
several
years ago. I was delighted to hear from her and asked how she was. She
said,
‘Well, I’m 90 now.’ I gulped. ‘Are you OK?’ She assured me that
she was fine, but said that she realized she was not immortal and was not
going to live forever and for her beloved Fjord’s sake, she thought it
would
be best to find her a new home

Thanks for putting into words what I was thinking also. Unkempt, skanky,
ill fitting tack and the sad thing is that this might be the first time some
folks actually see a Fjord horse.

Some of the other larger draft horses were very well groomed, and my first
impression of the Haflingers was they were kind of shaggy too, until I saw
the poor Fjord.

Buttercup - I am hoping that someone gets her and not only loves her but
grooms her and at least tacks her up correctly.
Horrors!
If there ever was a picture of the worst fitting tack, this is a front

What in the world is that HUMONGOUS! halter doing over that crappy bridle?

I just recieved a phone call from David, the owner of 'Buttercup' the mare who
is to be sold @ the Calif. Draft Horse Auction.
He said his 11 yr old daughter rides her but needs a new mount as she feels
she is too heavy for the mare.
The mare rides drives and he bought her from the Amish in Mo. She is not
registered.
I asked him if he would sell her privately b4 the auction and he did not want
to do this as he has promised the auctioneer (a friend of his) that he would
have a Fjord at his sale.
Whatever...If you are interested in learning more about her, I have his phone
# and will fwd it to anyone who requests it.
Lastly, I asked if he had a reserve on her, and he does not. FWIW, he is also
selling a minature horse listed in the catalog as 'Tony'.

Hi Folks,
I might be wrong, but if this is the mare that I am thinking about. She won
best overall dressage in Intermediate at the the cde at Lodi,Ca.[SHADY OAKS
COMBINED DRIVING EVENT (CDE) ] Also, competed there for several years.
She was driven by a young man for several years around 2002, 2003,2004 She
had heavy dapples then. I see she still has dapples in the auction photo.
I would not worry about the large draft halter on her, I am sure it was just
for the photo, same with the rider, and saddle.
I would buy this mare in a heart beat, however, I am not in a position at
this time for any more horses. If you want more info., email me off list.

person informed him to never buy an Amish trained horse; that basically they
train and use the horse very hard and then when they need a newer fresher horse
they sell the used up horse.

 Subject: saddle for sale
 To: fjordhorse@angus.mystery.com

 This message is from: crystal...@aol.com

after much contemplation and study, of both my riding style (or lack
thereof) and budget (or lack thereof), i decided to go with a thornhill
vienna II
saddle for oz. i work with someone whose percheron/tb cross wears an XW in
this model, and it fits oz. i did a tracing and sent it in, and confirmed
that's the size he needs. he seems to have a lot more freedom in his
shoulder
in this than his duett, which i really think doesn't fit his massive
shoulders. at 15hh he's larger than your average fjordie.

so, the duett is for sale. it's a 34/19 and in very good shape. it's always
been in a heated tack room with the cover on, and though i have had it for
a couple of years, there was a long period in which i didn't ride after knee
surgery. i can get photos if anyone is interested. it's brown and black
leather, with removeable knee and calf blocks, so you can really adjust it
to
your style. it also has a lot of d-rings for gear. they are $1249 new, and i
 would take $750 for it.

feel free to contact me either on or off the list.

 thanks
laurie, and oz, who gets to be a dressage queen now

Fjord for sale on craigslist in Fort Myers

2009-03-13 Thread Robin Churchill
This message is from: Robin Churchill rbc...@yahoo.com

There is an ad for a fjord gelding that says he is well-trained to ride and
drive and is bombproof. They don't mention the age or height or whether he is
registered but the picture looks like a purebred fjord. They are asking $1800
for him and say they also have another for sale. I remember recently someone
was asking for a trained fjord under $2000. The number is 239-273-1160.

8 Yr old Fjord for Sale to good home!

2008-01-17 Thread Susan Felix
This message is from: Susan Felix [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have an 8 yr old Fjord Gelding for sale, Ramsey. Some of you had probably
read about his talents in the Fjord Digest Magazine. He has been my Theropy
Horse for the last 2 years and my closest companion for most of his 8 years.
I am his only Humane and he my big Golden Retriever. Yes he does retrieve,
orange cones mostly! He has been trained to do ground work and ride by Beth
Beymer of Star Fire Farm . Mostly walk and Trot, he is not big into Cantering
, but neither am I , he will Canter all day long in the pasture and does
trails. Easy keeper and personality plus a very good boy. Health is
excellent. Sorry to say I need to find him a good home , I have some medical
issues and Lots of bills. My Dr.'s want me to cut back on working and I can
not ride anymore. So, I'm only letting him move on to someone else If they
can give him a good home and keep him in their life for a long time. As I
said before he is like a big golden retriever and is very faithful and loving.
I would like to get $3,500 .00 for him as I have expenses , but this is all
negotiable as long as he will be loved and kept for a long time to come.
Please email me: [EMAIL PROTECTED]mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] and
ask for Susan Felix 303-507-5309 Please past this on to anyone seriously
interested! Thank You, Susan Felix

2007-05-11 Thread Shannon Kaplan
This message is from: Shannon Kaplan [EMAIL PROTECTED]

More  specifically, do you think that Fjords (as a breed, not specific
horses)  ARE or ARE NOT suitable for children, novice horse people,  as
family
companions, and for therapeutic riding programs?

Depending upon what an individual is looking for in a horse, in my
opinion the Fjord horse in general is a perfect horse for a beginner
rider, and was my #1 choice in a mount for my children when they were
young, however no child or beginner rider should EVER be unsupervised
around a horse.

Given the Fjord horse general disposition, their laid back draft horse
mentality allows them to be slower to repond to stimuli, which in a
hotter horse can easily unseat a novice rider.  This slower resonse is an
asset when teaching young children to assert themselves when they ride.
My children are older now and are excellent riders because of their great
foundation of learning on their Fjords.

Because of their temperment, we have chosen the Fjord horse solely for
our Therapy Riding Program and have begun a breeding program allowing us
to selectively breed for temperment and confirmation.

This is of course speaking in general of the Fjord breed, there will
always be an individual that does not display this general Fjord
attitude, in fact I have one of those individuals in my barn.  She is
more of an Arab in a Fjord suit.  She is quite the character but does not
fit with our breeding, therapy riding program.  Ljufvina is listed on
dreamhorse but I would be willing to trade her for a mare better suited
for our program.  She has gorgeous movement and wonderful bloodlines and
would be ideal for an advanced rider looking for a dressage/eventing
mount.

I believe you may have a Fjord gelding for sale? I received a
forwarded message from Alison Bakken, from Ulrike Schnabl (did I get
that right?!) and there was two e-mail addresses so I hope I've done
the right thing here! Anyway, I am looking for a Fjord that could be
used as a saddle horse for my six year son so I need a horse as close
to bombproof and completely kind as I can get. Just being a Fjord is a
great start! I'd also like a good-sized drafty type. Could you send me
some details?

We have dropped this guy's price greatly, and really would like to find him
a home as we won't have time to get him going great under saddle next spring.
Kvikk is a 2004 GREY fjord gelding by the wonderful stallion MVF Erlend.
Kvikk was brought up by Olivia Farm, and had wonderful care and training
there. He placed 1st at Libby in 2005 in the yearling stallions, and 2nd in
the
yearling ground driving. Kvikk's never had anything but the best care and is
current on his vaccines and worming. We have spent time with him in the
round pen, and he has been saddled, backed and ridden at the walk and trot a
few
times. He is extremely quiet, and takes everything in stride with a great
attitude. Clips, bathes, hauls, stands tied, is good for farrier and vet.
Currently 14 hands. $4500, not firm. AWESOME show prospect! Please e-mail for

Dear List From Brian Jensen .
I have a 16-- going on 17 --year old gelding for sale.
Ursula and I purchased a mare and gelding from a retired couple both facing
by-pass surgery . Ursula is keeping the mare but I wish to sell the gelding.
His name is Kai and he is 14;2 hands high Kai rides and drives single or
pairs. I have been working with him the last two months and find him honest
and well broke. I have not driven him in the four-up but would guess he
would be OK He seems to have the right mentality for multiple hitching. In
earlier years he did pleasure driving shows and min CDE events . As well I
understand the former owners grandchildren used him for 4-H projects.
Initially he was herdbound but seems to have moved towards more
independence. Asking 2500.00 US funds. He would make a nice pleasure horse
and companion. We can deliver to the Pacific Northwest as we live in
south-central BC.
Serious requests contact us privately for more information or a

Hey Lisa, these colts do have a lot in common. My colt is also out of a
Leidjo daughter and I am amazed at his size. He will be for sale when he is
weaned. Still wondering about his color though. Sun is shining today so will
be searching his mane for dark hairs. With what you have told me though,

Redman is a HUGE, TALL red dun colt. He will NOT be pony sized, so
if you are looking to compete in pony divisions, forget it ! Redman is right
now the size of my 2 yr olds, and should max out around 15 hands + ? (
Largest Fjord born to us in 8 years so trying to be accurate here. ) Redman
will be perfect for riding, packing, driving in horse size capacities. Great
for a man looking for that Fjord to fit without looking like hes riding a
pony ! ( Real men drive ponies ! )

Redman does everything a yearling is supposed to do.ties,
hobbles, picks up feet for farrier, clips, trailers, leads, and is being
LIGHTLY worked on a lunge line on round pen work. Is happy, responsive and
sound / health guarenteed. Current on all vacinations, including WNV, feet
and worming done always on schedule.

Top bloodlines like these are the goal in our breeding program, and
we are offering this great colt for $ 2,800. Transportation possible, also
TERMS and payments accepted.

If you are looking for Anvil's breeding along with the Hostar quality,
why wait a year ? Next year Redman will be turning 2 and ready to start.

Not really weird at all Mary. The Old Destron chips were a lower

Then again he might be just a pure fjord born like that, but that tailset is

Yes, I thought of that also. Wonder if the seller has
ever tried having the horse scanned for a microchip?
Might be he could be positively identified that way.
I assume most recent microchips are more universal
than the old ones used by the US and Canadian
registries. My old mare has a microchip that has
defied being read by anything except a Destron reader.
We have tried all of the 'universal' readers on it as
they became available, with no result. Use a Destron
reader and there it is - loud and clear. Weird.

Strange that that happened to Jean. It happened to me once when I entered

There are a couple of Waldo horses registered with

the other was a stallion foaled sometime in the
1970's. Neither fits the 5 year old description of
this particular Waldo. However, he looks ok to me in
the picture - I don't see any telltale white socks or
obviously 'off color' mane or tail. Maybe he IS
registered, just not with the NFHR. There are two

Just thought I'd mention that I still have Tor for sale. Anyone looking
for a nice big gelding that drives? He's a brown dun, 14.1, 8yo, drafty

Fjord for sale in Washington State

2002-03-03 Thread Mary Thurman
This message is from: Mary Thurman [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi List,

I am posting this for friends in Rochester,
Washington.
This gelding is one that we owned as a youngster,
taught to drive, and sold as a two-year-old. The
people selling him have owned him ever since, and are
now selling him due to their lack of time/energy to
use him enough. In a word: Finn is bored, needs
work, companions, etc.

Particulars:

Brown dun gelding. Eight years old this July. Stands
14 hands, weighs 900 pounds. Broke to drive. Has
been used for pulling a delivery cart, walking plow,
harrow, and the 'weed cart'. He has been ridden -
very little and only bareback. Sire: MVF Ravel. Dam:
Quad-L's Bree. His registered name is Ingamar, but he
has been called Finn for the past six years. Ingamar
is just a bit awkward to use for 'everyday'. Asking
price is $4000 for the horse. If you are interested
in the harness, riding bridle, cart and walking plow,
they are priced at $1500 for the lot.

You can contact me privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and I will put you in touch with his owners. This is
a horse that we have kept contact with through the
years - have driven him, plowed with him, etc. He is
a very nice horse, good personality, willing worker -
and cute(what else?).

This message is from: Laurie Pittman [EMAIL PROTECTED]

After a lot of hard thinking, I've come to the conclusion that Tor and
I are not the best match for each other, so I have regretfully decided to
put him up for sale.

Tor (Paradise's Tor) is an 8yo, 14.1H gelding. Draft build. Registered
with the NFHR. He is broke to ride, but has been used mostly as a driving
horse (single). He is road safe, great on the trails (alone or in a group).
We have done several driving clinics and playdays, and a couple of training
level CDE's. He ties, crossties, clips, bathes, loads and hauls well. Good
with the farrier and vet. Sound and healthy. I think that Tor has a lot of
potential for the right person, but he is a strong willed individual and I
would not recommend him for a child or a beginner. Price, $6500.00 US.
Please email me for further info.

Diana,

When our horses were at a local training barn the
trainer used a regular bleach solution to
dip/sterilize his bits when they were used on more
than one horse. The solution was 25% bleach. Bits
were dipped in the bleach solution, then into a
container of cider vinegar to kill the bleach taste.
Seems to me that what the bleach didn't get the cider
vinegar would finish off. This method seemed to work
well.

Hi List !Been quiet lately.and I know thats very unusual for me,
so I thought I would let you all know that we are still here, for the moment !

Our new house in Utah, closed today, and we made a turn around trip
yesterday to sign loan docs. Not a bad trip one way ( around 6 1/2 hrs ) but
horrible when you have to get back on the road and come home, same night. We
now own a 2 story, LOG home, 2500 sq. in Cedar City Utah. It is our dream
home, and in a nice, friendly, horsey neighborhood. I have met several of our
neighbors, and all are looking forward to us getting our horses up there. We
are fencing the whole place, and have also bought a used barn, 72 ft long, 10
stall, tounge in groove, that we have to dismantal, and move ourselves. ( I
know, I know.but couldnt pass up this great deal ; ) HELP.

We are doing the white vinyl fencing for a good portion of the place, and
hopefully by next spring, also a dressage sz. driving arena arena. I have
obtained a position there, working for the State of Utah, in the adult
correctional facility there, 5 miles from my house. So...will still be
working with troubled people, but just an older population. I get to do
alot of teaching, along with drug and alcohol counseling, and it is a dream
to use my Law Enforcment degree with my Nursing background.

My son is starting school on the 26th, in Cedar. I will be up there, by
then, full time. Between now and then, I am packing, have relocated my
antique business into box's, and hireing and training a new person at work.
Jeff will commute, DONT LAUGH ! for the last 10 months, till he retires with
20 years in Fire service, or decides the commute isnt so bad, and hangs out
in So. Calif. job wise, for a while longer. Firemen only work 10 days a
month, 24 hr shifts, and with 2 vacation days, and several shift trades, can
work a week onand come home for 2-3 weeks.

The lady across the road from me, owns the local feed / tack store/ pet
shop, and has offered to keep my horses for me in a 5 acre pasture, while I
can feed and care for them. I am truly blessed. : ) Gives us time to
get fencing in, and this barn put together. The Fjords need to start putting
on a hair coat, soon, so will be moving them soon, also. Libby looks grim
right now, but still holding out hopegot my show packet today, thanks !

   I am selling a ' 99 colt, PF Valjo ( pending ) out of a Gjest daughter,
and by Valbjorn, by an imported mare, Valina and Sleipner. Valjo is bred for
performance, and his sire, Valbjorn is a multiple champion driving / CD
horse. I would not promote this colt as stud quality, if I did not feel that
he is one, if not the nicest colt I have seenbut he is. I have been to
Libby, Turlock and Blue Earth several times and feel this colt would stand up
with any shown. As much as a weanling can be, a Stallion prospect, Valjo is.
Dish head, tall, beefy, and correctshould mature around 14.3. I will
offer him as a Stallion, or sell at a gelding price to someone who wants to
show, drive or just own a beautiful example of imported and US bloodlines.
Private treaty for stud.$ 3,250 gelded. I will advertise him soon, here
in Calif. so if interested, please let me know.

Hope all of you are well.and I will be computerless for a bit, (OMG, )
and hope to get back on line, soon after the 1st of Sep. Jackie, PAV Aussie,
will hold down the Fjord Chat at PetsandVets, every Sun. night 9:00 Eastern
time. I'll be there this week.! A

Is anyone else receiving blank emails from Pedfjords?

Jean,It seems like you are the only one who this
is happening to, but now that people will see that they can AVOID my
seriously disturbed joke list, Im sure there will be others !( Try
clicking on the paperclip, may be comming up with your server as an attached
file. ) Anyone wanting to be INCLUDED to this list, just ask, but warning:
Fireman and Psych. Nurse humor is weird !

We took the Fjords out for a drive last night, as 2 singles, because they
have been working hard at pairing, and thought a change would be good. Oh BOY.

You would think they were joined at the hip ! My mare was so buzzed up,
she could not contain herself, and had mental checkout everytime Kaiser got
more than 3 ft. away. I was laughing so hard that I almost fell off the
carriage, and was driving her with my pinkeys, but at a over collected, huff
puff IM-GONNA BLOW-UP-STATE.
Geeese ! Back to single work, alone and with friends I dont know how
anyone ever trains a horse to drive as a pair, then splits them up...I
know it is easier to hitch a very broke horse to a youngster, but Yeee
H! There gos my tandom plans for next week. In many ways, driving a
pair is alot easier than a single.

I want to let everybody know that the Gelding we are offering for sale,
is now pictured on the NET, at Driving West website, under CLASSIFIEDS.
2 nice pictures of him are there, and will soon be in the SPARES BOX sale
place on the CD-List. Knute is 7, pro. trained to RIDE, DRIVE, single and
pairs. Happy, healthy forward, dressage and CD prospect. His ad in the
California Horsetrader is getting alot of interest, also getting calls from
back East. Have referred people to several breeders nearer to their location.
Happy to do that when they are looking for something differant then what we
have for sale. Also send them to Betsys site for Fjords.
