Bob and Tim,

well, to be honest, I haven't tried it with the SDR-1000, as I don't own
one. I have tested the EMU-1616M with my

Very low background noise, flat response, absolutely no pops. I had it on loan,

Tim,
just a wild guess... maybe you have given for granted that the ASIO Sample
Type is ASIOSTInt32LSB, which is what is
used by the Delta 44. The Sample Type used by the EMU card is ASIOSTInt24LSB,
so you have to reformat it, e.g. by
calling the routine int24to32inPlace of the Steinberg ASIO SDK.

I made the same mistake initially :-)

Thanks for all the suggestions, in this case I am not looking to use it with

try and improve the VHF/UHF sensitivity, I currently own a Firebox, FA-66

In your expert opinion Alberto, would I get as much as 3dB sensitivity

not justify buying it.

Are you looking for raw sensitivity (which would seem to equate to
gain and noise figure) or dynamic range? if it's just minimum
detectable signal that you're worried about, why not a very low noise
opamp. There's a fair number of low noise op amps, and if you're
really obsessive about 1/f noise, there are some very, very quiet
JFETs out there, but more likely, things like construction practices
(the kind of resistor you use, and whether you use a board or
floating in air on teflon post construction.

[Flexradio] OCXO

2006-10-16 Thread n3gx
I'm interested to get one of those OCXO modules that Alan K2WS developed.
He told me there is a minimum of 10 orders required from Bliley (OCXO's
manufacturer).
In order to shorten the waiting time I'm willing to order the 10 units but I
will like to know first if some one else is interested to do the OCXO upgrade
to their Flex as well, otherwise I will be stuck with the remaining.

Another problem is that Alan is not answering emails I sent to either ([EMAIL
PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
Does anyone knows a better way to get in touch with Alan Davis?

I wish Flex-Radio includes the OCXO as part of their products upgrade.

Have you tried Wenzel for oscillators? http://www.wenzel.com/ They
have very low phase noise OCXOs in the $200-300 price range, and for
common frequencies (5,10 MHz for sure, lots of others too) they'll
probably have them off the shelf in qty:1.

I've used a number of their Streamline high performance oscillators
for a quiet 10 MHz reference. These are the familiar 2x2x1 inch block
with a SMA connector (or pins or BNC)

The Onyx is a smaller package with pins.

their VHF frequency ones (30-130 MHz) offer phase noise of -125
dBc/Hz at 100 Hz out. 100 MHz is a standard, but I don't think it
will work with the SDR1000 (x2 isn't an option for the onchip PLL, as
 I recall).

I bought a new Bliley 100 Mhz OCXO on ebay ($45, some still remain on sale,
item #290031197853)and I was planning to use a X2 multiplier or divide it down
to a supported frequency and let the pll multiply back to 200 Mhz. It seems
that I can use the oscillator output directly. I´ll test it as time permits.

Does anyone know if it is possible, within N8VB's VCom utility, to create
a pair existing of one virtual and one actual h/w comport? I know the
utility will accept the combination, but will it work?

Reason I'm asking is I need to connect the PowerSDR to a h/w comport. I
know I can do that directly, but if I do that then in my situation I will
need a cable that connects pins 2 on one side to 3 on the other and vice
versa. I'm trying to avoid having to do that (call it laziness) and
thought if I created a s/w - h/w null modem pair, VCOM would make that
 switch for me.

It is possible to use the existing wave record/playback features
 in
PowerSDR to record a signal (yours or someone you are receiving)
 and
 then play it back later.

If you are recording someone that you are receiving, set the
 Wave Record
Options to record post-processed RX. This will record what you
 are
hearing (as opposed to the full IF). Then when you are ready to
 play it
back, simply add the file to the playlist, go into transmit
 mode, and
then hit the play button. Note that you may need to adjust the
 MIC gain
to adjust the input volume from the wave file (typically wave
 files need
much less gain due to the AGC that has already been applied to
 the
received signal before you send it).

For recording your own signal, you would want to select
 pre-processed TX
signal on the Wave Options form. This way, you would not run
 the EQ,
filter, etc. twice (once before recording, once on playback).
 Otherwise
 the process is the same.

Suggestions for how to improve this are welcome.

I want to avoid overdriving the transverter, which needs a very low tx

Or do I just turn the audio input down!

Re: [Flexradio] High SWR indication and loss of keying

I notice that John puts the choke at the computer, Flex puts the choke
at the radio and Ahti puts chokes on both ends of the USB cable. I
thought that the radio would be the thing sensitive to the RF so the
Flex approach makes the most sense. But I'm not sure.

I have the same question concerning the audio cables going to the

Incidentally, for those of you in the US who like the looks of Ahti's E

Actually, there is not much in the Flex-Radio SDR-1000 for the rf to get

keyboard etc. have been the major culprits. I had to relocate the 40M
antenna away from the shack in another more distant part of the attic to
keep my Athlon confuser from going into standy when running the full 100W on

In my case one common mode choke was not enough. I tried two cokes

was with one choke at both ends. It obviously depends on the mode of

[Flexradio] SDR-1000 in EME Contest

2006-10-16 Thread David Blaschke
Thanks to the boys at Flex-radio, I sent the radio in for repairs
last Wednesday evening via UPS, and was stunned to see the radio
repaired and back here Friday afternoon. What a turnaround.

I had good success using the SDR-1000 and JT65B running on the same
computer during the EME contest, and it all worked fine. Also made
some CW QSO's using the keyer. Not a big effort in the contest, but
had other commitments this past weekend.

 Eric,

I can record fine. But I no longer can playback.

What I do is record then Add and before I hit Play I key with MOX then
hit play and just get noise.

If I just hit play I hear what I recorded fine.

Can you explain what part of it is no longer working? We used Beta
v1.6.3
at Pacificon this weekend, so I can say for sure that the playback
is
  working as intended.
