[Flexradio] Set VAC2 Levels in PSDR?
For the life of me I do not know how I managed to get the VAC2 sliders to appear in PowerSDR. I clicked on the RX2 button and that caused it to switch back to displaying the VAC1 sliders. My experience with N1MM+ is that you must use the SAME serial port for both N1MM+ and fldigi. Otherwise lockup occurs. I have only used with PowerSDR, so I have no specifics for SMARTSDR. Re: [Flexradio] FireWire replacement
Hi Alan Firewire has pretty much vanished from video production work. The main use in the past was in transfer from tape to the editing computer systems and so cameras and video decks used to come with a Firewire port. The copying across (capture) was done in real time. We still keep a couple of video decks at work connected by Firewire but they are used only for ingesting archive material. The industry is now tapeless. Cameras store the pictures onto memory cards. At work some of our cameras use P2 cards (a Panasonic proprietary format) and the Canon XF305s and C300s we have use standard 64GB Extreme CF cards. The Canon & Nikon DSLRs we use for video use CF or SD cards. So to get the pictures into the editing systems it's now a case of just moving the files. Going tapeless has several advantages. It's much faster to get the files into the editing computer, there is no need to ingest the pictures in real time, and the cameras have far less moving parts. The reliability of the old tape systems was often a problem. There's a downside too. It is very easy to format a card and so loose all the material that was shot onto it! Digital files are of course easily erased with the click of a mouse. As a result a new job has evolved in the industry, the DIT (Digital Information Technician) or Data Wrangler. He/she is responsible for making sure the files are safely backed up with multiple copies to hard drives before the cards are re-formated. But I digress 73 Paul G4DCV On 18-Jan-16 3:45 PM, Alan NV8A wrote: NewEgg still lists Firewire cards for PCIe, PCMCIA and ExpressCard. Flex chose Firewire because it was the only technology that would do the job. Even USB 3.0, which was still new at the time, wouldn't do it. And at the time, Firewire was still widely used for audio and video editing equipment; is it still? Now that most of the computing power is in "the box" in the 6K series rigs, a lot less "traffic" passes between the rig and the computer you connect to it, so Ethernet is fine. 73 Alan NV8A On 01/17/2016 09:24 PM, Joel Baldwin wrote: And that pretty much bookends the product line. While Flex hasn't abandoned the F3K and F5K they have very much moved on to the Signature line. And as much as I hate to say it, as a F3K owner, I'm not sure this is a bad thing. It's not going to happen soon for me, but it's time to start getting ready to move on. ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz To opt out of the Reflector: http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz To opt out of the Reflector: http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz

You need a speaker in the Playback properties of Sound Properties and a line in or mic in the Record , this is just to keep default sounds off the DAX drivers. If you don't have something plugged into your sound card, just put a blank plug there, Windows doesn't care , as long as something is there. Bill is 100% on the money. I have been in the MI retail business for over 20 years with the nation's largest music dealer. The Hercules stuff is plastic, relatively inexpensive, and the return rate is somewhat high. As for the different models, all you'll need to do is map all the controls yourself. I understand the discontinued model had a mapping for Flex that someone had put together, but all models of controllers should be easily mapped out with a little effort. In this case however I think the OP has already made a purchase of the Hercules hardware to utilize the prepackaged mapping. -Original Message- From: FlexRadio [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of William H. Re: [Flexradio] Garbled output
Hi Dave, Any chance you're using a HEIL mic adapter? I had garbled audio from RF getting into the mic connector. As it turned out the mic was wired as 'Yaesu', but required the chassis ground pin to be connected to the mic ground pin on the adapter. I soldered a tiny jumper between the two pins and the problem was completely eliminated. YMMV. Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR freezing
It is too bad you have deleted your restore points. I suggest you reinstall Windows and start over. PITA, but remember - Windows is Windoz. I have gone so far that when I get Windoz installed the way I want with the basic software I always use, I then create a system image. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/create-system-image-in-windows-7-8/ Is Windows a Virus? No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do: 1. They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that. 2 Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that. 3 Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too. 4 Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too. 5 Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, Windows does that, too. Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature. So Windows is not a virus. It's a bug. My radio is a F5k and it works perfect on my i5/W7/64 bit laptop using a SIIG Firewire 400 2-Port (6-pin) ExpressCard so my radio and fire wire cable test OK. My radio has worked perfect on my home PC for several years but some thing has changed or it has developed a fault and now PowerSDR will freeze randomly any where from a few seconds to a few hours. Some times the panadapter will freeze and the audio will stop and turning off and on PowerSDR will solve the issue. Some times turning off and on PowerSDR will grey out the panadapter and some times turning off PowerSDR will generate an error message "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application" and PowerSDR will crash requiring both the F5k and PowerSDR to be turned off and on again. I have tried all the things Flex recommend such as disabling power savings, using the legacy driver, factory defaults, reloading PowerSDR, no over clocking etc etc and nothing changes. I replaced the SIIG FireWire 400 2-Port PCIe card in my PC with a spare SIIG FireWire 400 3-Port PCI card (in a different slot) and I still have the exact same problem, so the problem is not the fire wire card either. The problem is a software problem in my PC. My PC is a high performance machine purchased specifically to run my F5k and I should not be having any issues. I have tried using different drivers for the FireWire cards and the problem still remains. Re: [Flexradio] 7P8JR, the TNF and my Flex-5000
I own a Flex5000 and have found the notch filter in PowerSDR to be an extremely useful tool. I love it! However, I have in the past 6 months been experimenting with an RTL2832U receiver used as a SDR component in the IF of an IC-728 transceiver. The RTL2832U is controlled with HDSDR software. The HDSDR software has a notch filter that can place multiple notches in the receiver bandpass. This filter combination compares well with the PowerSDR notch filter. So, here is an example of software and hardware that compare well with my Flex5000 and PowerSDR. I really wanted 7P8JR but the ED station was making it hard to hear him so I created a TNF, made it very narrow and stuck it on the ED's space frequency. Then I created another one and put it on the mark frequency of 7P8JR of the Spanish station. That gave me about 90% solid copy and I made the QSO (my Elecraft KPA-500 helped a LOT too!). Is there any other non-Flex rig that can do what I did above? Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 102, Issue 15
Everyone, I think the measurements and discussion by Leif Asbrink, http://www.sm5bsz.com/dynrange/dubus313.pdf, is of interest to anyone in the amateur radio hobby. It is of particular interest to VHF and UHF operators where the noise floor to maximum signal amplitude may be greater than the 77 dB signal difference between the carrier and sideband noise of a Flex5000 at +/- 350 kHz from the carrier frequency. For HF operation where atmospheric noise is predominant the sideband noise is not an issue. For example, one is operating at 3.900 MHz and a very strong Flex5000 carrier is detected at S9 + 20 dBm, which is -73 + 20 dBm = -50 dBm. Based on Leif's measurements, peaks in sideband noise of -77 dBc will occur at 3.900 +/- 0.350 MHz, which are 3.550 and 4.250 MHz. The amplitude of these noise peaks will be S9 - 77 dBm = -50 dBm - 77 dB = -127 dBm. On 3.550 MHz, the CW portion of the 80 meter band, at a very quiet location, the typical noise floor will be S5, which is 4 S units or 24 dBm below S9. Therefore, the noise floor is at S9 - 4 S units = -73 dBm - 24 dBm = -97 dBm. So, the sideband noise peak is -127 dBm - (-97 dBm), which is -30 dBm or 30 dBm below the noise floor. Clearly, for HF operation the Flex5000 sideband noise is not an issue. Some questions for the Flex Company. 1. Has the Flex Company made measurements of the sideband noise amplitude? 2. How do these measurements compare to those reported by Leif? 3. Is the sideband noise amplitude still -77 dBc for current Flex5000s? 4. Is the sideband noise amplitude still -77 dBc for the Flex6000 series? By the way, I am a happy user of a Flex5000 on the HF bands and am trying to keep some perspective about the issues raised by Leif. I do not operate on VHF and UHF so I cannot comment about those frequencies. I think the above analysis is correct and hope others will add their ideas. Re: [Flexradio] Question about Flex 5000 with second receiver. Receiver 2 antenna selection
I wanted to do the same thing. I have 6 antennas. I purchased an Array Solutions 6-Pack antenna switch. It allows you to connect any of the six antennas to any TWO radios. So I have my amp between the Flex ANT1 jack and the 6-Pack (Radio 1). Then I connect the 6-Pack (Radio 2) to the Flex RX2. The six pack will not allow you to select the same antenna for both "radios" (safety interlock) Now I can have any combination. Later I added a MicroHam Station Master and now have fully automated antenna selection and can manually override if necessary using the selector switches on the 6-Pack Paul Delaney - K6HR http://k6hr.dyndns.org:8080 -Original Message- From: FlexRadio [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Mark Lunday Sent: Friday, September 20, 2013 1:47 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz; flexra...@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Flexradio] Question about Flex 5000 with second receiver. Yes. After installing RX2 you will be able to choose the antenna on the antenna menu. Then just choose "RX1 Tap" and the second receiver will be listening on the same antenna. You may want to also check "disable RX2 on TX1 transmit" so you're not TXing into RX2 Paul Delaney - K6HR http://k6hr.dyndns.org:8080 -Original Message- From: FlexRadio [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Gary Smith Sent: Monday, September 02, 2013 5:18 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Using a 2nd Independent Receiver with the Flex 5000A Is it possible to use a second (independent) receiver with the Flex 5000A on the same antenna that the Flex is using? [Flexradio] SDR-1000 and PowerSdr v2.5.3 notes
I just got powersdr v2.5.3 working with sdr-1000 -- I haven't worked with this in a long time. I have the flex radio usb adapter and a delta-44 card. This kb article is very helpful: http://kc.flexradio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50012.aspx?Keywords=delta-44 OS: window 7 64-bit. Delta-44 driver: 5.10.0.5074 I already had the sdr1kusb.dll and deltapnl.dll files on hand so I didn't have to hunt for those. 1. you have fixed the mouse wheel bug, good 2. works with the latest delta-44 driver, doesn't insist on setting the level api which isn't there anymore, good 3. I used the libusb-win32-bin-1.2.6.0.zip file from http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32/files/libusb-win32-releases/1.2.6.0/. They finally have a signed driver for this. 4. The powersdr UI is cutoff around the edges. I use 1920 x 1440 resolution with large fonts, and this is probably a dialog scaling issue. When will a WPF version of powersdr be available? I did a prototype of this a few years ago and it's not that hard to do. ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

MOX is not PTT. Those are lines on the mic jack and a jack in the back. The MOX is how someone operating remote through applications like Teamviewer or MS Remote Desktop keys up the transmitter with audio input from VAC, not the station mic. With "Allow PTT to Override VAC" set, then someone keying a PTT line (not MOX) overrides the audio coming in from VAC and gets it from the local station mic inputs. At least that is how mine works. From: Patrick Greenlee To: Paul Mandel ; 'Jim Jannuzzo' ; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Sent: Thursday, June 7, 2012 2:41 PM Subject: Re: [Flexradio] EMF/ RFI from Electric Radiant Undertile heaters I am in South Central Oklahoma and have radiant heat which for most of that heating it is in the floor although I have opted for some radiant ceilings and in the case of the master bath shower I have heated floor and walls. I have used some radiant electric heat previously. The only problems are the old style thermostats with mechanical switch contacts i..e. bimetallic type as they make sparks when switching a load and radiated RFI coming along the electrical supply wires. Thermostats based on electronic sensors (a thermistor or solid state junction) don't make sparks and so don't generate RFI. An electric resistance heating floor pad or heating grid under the ceramic tile can radiate RFI from other sources even when it doesn't make any of its own (solid state thermostat sensor or thermistor) but that can be eliminated or reduced by taking some appropriate measures for combating both differential and common mode RFI before the operating current gets into the heating grid which would act like a RFI radiating antenna. I control the temperature of my shower walls with a sensor in the quickset adhering the tile to the wall. Note: the typical heaters for an aquarium are the mechanical contact type and can generate significant RFI. You can buy or build a thermostat that uses a thermistor or a solid state junction to control the heater and not get RFI. Likewise some electric blankets, heating pads, heated seats in reclliners, and so forth have contact type controllers which make RFI. Ditto the little electric space heaters. You can easily build a solid state thermostatic controller into which you plug a small space heater and avoid the RFI. Doingg this requires no mods to the heater, Just turn its T'stat all the way up so it doesn't switch on and off and let the solid state controller handle the switching. I typically recommend a design that switches the current on at the voltage zero crossing point and off at the zero current part of the AC cycle so there is no switching noise.
