Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 not responding

2017-02-11 Thread Neal Campbell
Don,

The main components are:
The firewire interface on the computer
The firewire cable
The firewire port on the 3000.

Try replacing the cable with the one that works and if it still doesn't
work, you know the cable is okay.

If you can see the other radio with the same firewire port on the computer,
then you can eliminate that.

That would leave the radio's firewire port to be at blame (or the radio
itself).

I got it working, all I had to do was reinstall windows 8, then install
powerSDR, then upgrade to windows 10.

I hadn't done much, so it wasn't a big problem.

Darryl,

I suspect you are missing part of the FireWire driver, leave the radio off,
remove the FlexRadio driver in the Programs and features, REBOOT the computer,
rerun the PowerSDR installer, REBOOT , be sure the computer is completely
rebooted , then turn the radio on . Be sure to wait long enough for all

Bill,

Is the blue light on the power switch of your FLEX-3000 lit? If it is, then
problem is in firewire connection -- computer cannot see the radio.

Check your connections.
Open firewire driver control panel to see if radio is recognized.
Check in DeviceManager to see if you are using the legacy driver.

Go to https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us to enter a support request.

Well, looks like no one is interested.

Price lowered to $1575, same terms. I’m going to post this on the community

My Flex-3000 is one of the first release. When the preamp mod occurred
about 5 years ago, Flex did a free factory upgrade to older units. If you
contact Flex with your unit's serial number, they can probably tell you
whether or not the mod has been installed.

Thanks Dale

I fully suspect that could be the case. The video would be over remote
desktop, so that will also be a challenge. I 'hope' I can dial down the
frame rate for remote operation.

I currently use a TS480 and RemoteRig, but I really want to get the Flex at
the remote site.

I agree. Video will be the challenge.

I am on a real cleaning spree. I am also selling my SGC500 and I am going
to replace it with a KPA500. I could go the KP3/0 route, but I haven't
gotten there yet. :)

Many thanks for your insite.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for Sale

2014-05-12 Thread Dale Hankins
Michael I have owned all the previous flex radios and now own the 6500. Great
radio but still in the building mode. I ran my flex 5000 and 3000 remote for
several years and the thought of working off the World Wide Web on a 6000 is
what really got my attention. Now for the bad news. At this time the 3000 works
better remotely than the 6000. I have not even worried with remote ing the 6000
until it will work as presented. I am not saying this to tell you to hold off
just the opposite now is a great time to get the radio learn how to use it and
enjoy every new update as they come out. We are a way from web remote but they
have promised it and the Flex team have never let me down. I would also caution
you on video graphics card for the 6000. I went with a r7260x latest and
greatest but there are issues causing crashes that appear to be driver issues
which cannot be fixed. If you have good video on your board stat with it and if
going to a high performance card be sure to get at least th
ree peopl who run it on your type of machine.

Glad to see you move up to the 6300.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 or 5000 Remote operation assistance

2014-02-27 Thread David Movius
Mathew,

In run Flex 5000 via remote using TeamViewer and Skype for the audio link.
Steve's description is essentially the same setup I use and it works
extremely well. I had to fiddle with some of the audio anomalies Steve
mentioned. One set of settings in each Skype account
(Skype>Tools>Options>Audio Settings) was to check the "Auto adjust
Microphone" and "Auto Adjust Speaker..." boxes. Others may custom set these
levels, but it seemed to smooth things out for me when those boxes were
checked.

I have looked at RemAud (as mentioned by Steve), but the setup is bit over
my head at this time. With Skype working, I will stick with it for the time
being.

Good luck. Remote operation with the Flex is lots of fun.

Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 or 5000 Remote operation assistance

Mathew-- using Skype for the audio portion of remote operations is pretty
easy. Think of it this way-- you treat the Flex as if it is another person
(account) to Skype, and PowerSDR as the speaker and microphone instead of
the host computer's speaker and microphone.

a. As in all remote audio solutions, you will need "virtual audio cables",
software that connects the audio in and out of the Flex to Skype. This link
http://kc.flexradio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50230.aspx
talks about the 3rd party software most of us use, although this software is
now in version 12 I think and the article talks about version 4. The article
is still relevant. Note: there is a "trial"
version-- don't use this as it will overlay advertising audio on your
transmitted signal! Note 2: you will need this virtual audio cable software
to interface with any of the digital-mode programs as well.

b. Load Skype software onto your host Flex computer and create a separate
skype account for your Flex. I use my call (WA7DUH-Flex). Set up Skype so
it starts with the computer startup (tools>>Options>>General). Also so Skype
will only answer those that are in it's contact list and automatically
answers when called (tools>>Options>>Privacy). Go ahead and hook Skype on
your host to your computer speaker and microphone temporarily, establish you
normal Skype account in this new account contact list, etc. That is-- make
sure Skype is fully working person to person and automatically answering,
etc.
before attaching audio to the Flex.

c. With PowerSDR running-- On the Flex host computer's Skype, go to the
audio settings (tools>>Options>>General>>Audio). Change Skype's audio input
from the computer microphone to "Audio Out" or whatever you named the audio
out channel as discussed in the Knowledgebase article. Change Skype's audio
out from the computer speaker to "Audio In" or whatever you named the audio
input channel as discussed in the Knowledgebase article.

d. In PowerSDR VAC audio setup (Setup>>audio>>VAC) make sure PowerSDR is
also attached to the appropriate virtual audio cable channels, and set the
audio out to about -20db and the audio in to about -6db. Also on this audio
setup page, I set "Allow PTT to override/bypass VAC for phone" and "Auto
Enable" must be off.

Call your Flex Skype account from your remote computer(s). You should have
audio remote. Adjust audio levels in PowerSDR (Setup>>Audio>>VAC) from the
starting levels recommended in d. above to suit your particular
configuration. You can also manipulate the audio a bit within the Skype
remote computer.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT-- using Skype for the remote audio has some funky results.
Skype has very complex algorithms to cancel echo and background noise. It
reacts poorly to normal HF static, trying to cancel it etc.
This results in audio level pumping and such. I have Skype always attached
to my PowerSDR as a backup/alternate and for my friends to listen, but I
have moved to RemAUD. But I used Skype exclusively for 3 years, and the
setup is much easier. RemAUD requires router forwarding setups, firewall
setups, etc. to get to work, but is designed specifically for remote
communications audio.

Good luck-- I probably missed some important steps so if you get stuck come
back to the list for help.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 and DXEngineering RTR-1A ReceiveAntenna Interface

2013-10-28 Thread Michael Walker
Hi Bruce

It is never $10. :) Part of it is the time and money to source the parts,
build it, mount it in a box, etc. While I say the same thing from time to
time, it is part of 'buying time'.

Bruce, do you have a QSK solid state design sketched you would like to
share with us to use? I would like to take advantage of it.Don't get
me wrong I do agree with your $10 idea.

Hunter, the RTR-1 has to be connected to the actual radio to work and the
radio has to be turned on. They have a failsafe in the unit that looks for
the keying voltage to be present on the PTT line from the radio. I got
caught by that one as well one day.

When it is playing correctly, the green light goes on and off as you move
the toggle switch.

Save your money and make your own for less than $10 in parts.

Choose the correct relay and this will double as a radio to amplifier
buffer. If you need "QSK", then go solid state. Easy to do. The choice
depends on your needs and your station. Lots of options, do not have to go

While I am impressed with the 6700 and I know that, in time, the software

just work, and work extremely well, features that may be incorporated into

Not that the 6700 preforms poorly, but there are all those little things
that need to be checked, tweaked, adjusted, and screwed around every time I
 use it.

Adjusting the spectrum band width, find the correct frequency, mode,
making sure that the + 20db gain button has been pushed, tweak the receive
equalizer to reset its setup and adjust the many other features to my

Better hold on to your 3000 or 5000A for a while and enjoy the quality and
ease of operation from these radios for a while.

Re: [Flexradio] FLEX 3000 AND 6700

2013-10-13 Thread Jim Jerzycke

There are 6 reviews for the 6500 and 1 for the 6700 on eHam.

And I agree with Ron. There are some very hostile people towards Flex on
eHam, especially in the SDR forum.

One guy sold his early 5000, and still trashes Flex without provocation.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex-3000 to Amp Question

2013-10-09 Thread a.groff

Hanford,
Yes, you will need an interface on the 30l-1 KEY (ptt) input.. The
voltage on that line WILL BLOW the driver in the F3000.. Other only
other interconnect that you need to connect is the RF..
The F3000 does not have ALC.. It does have pretty good control the RF
out level and you will be okay if you watch you F3K drive. SET the
drive level in CW and leave it there for SSB.

Hi to the list

I would like to drive my Collins 30L-1 with my Flex-3000. How would I set it
up and would I need an interface like the Ameritron ARB-704 because of the
keying voltage of the 30L-1 I'd hate to damage my radio. Thanks in advance.

Your best solution would be to get a PCI or PCIe firewire board with a
known working chipset (TI, I think), and install it in an unused slot in
the motherboard.

You are not going to get the throughput with any USB to FW adapter.

I found this from a while ago...

The motherboard is still available, but it's not cheap. Neal Campbell, K3NC

There is an article on electronic T/R switch in the April, 1993 issue #48 of ER
magazine that answers a lot of the questions in this thread

Only thing to add to all the comments that have already been posted is that the
KX3 is a much better CW rig, if like me CW is your mode of choice.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-18 Thread Steven Hess
I love my Flex-3000 but mechanical relay on a CW rig is a terrible idea to
me.
The Flex-1500 does CW well on a tuned computer system.
If you have latency problems you will not like it.
If your computer underpowered or you can't tune your system you'll have
problems.

You are not hearing from all the people who have no CW issues or have given
up on the list due to a high signal noise ratio.
I love my FlexRadio rigs and would not part with them for anything but I am
not a CW op.

That zero lag of the KX3 is great so when I try to use the 1500 I can't send a

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-18 Thread Burt
The 1500 has a delay (latency) problem which makes it useless for CW. I sold
mine and now have a KX3

Yesterday I got my 1500 working... But what's up with the CW?? I can't heard
the other stations when I'm transmitting. Plus my fist is all screwed up...
Can't send worth a shit. WTF!
Can't find the side tone vol.
back to the K3 and KX3 real CW machines that just work.

Looks like the 1500 will wind up on eBay... I still give it some more time.. It
maybe that I just don't know how to use it correctly.

It seems to me it needs to be at least as good in CW as the K line.

Full break-in, automatic "zero beat" to match RX signal, almost zero lag
time from key down to side tone, CW decoder integral, to name a few things
that makes the KX3 a better CW rig.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-18 Thread George Shapow
Hi all,

Is there a USB to Firewire adapter that anyone has used successfully with a
Flex 5000? I'm trying to replace the computer in my 5000C with a mint ITX
board. The board will fit and everything else seems OK except that it has no
firewire available.

Thanks

George, NY2O

CW is my mode of choice and I am very happy with my Flex-3000. However,
to be fair, I don't use the internal CWX keyer. Instead I use an
external Winkeyer USB. There are a couple of advantages to this:

1) Keying speed is the same whether you are using Macros or Paddles.
2) You are not dependent on Windows process switching to generate clean
properly timed CW.

the other stations when I'm transmitting.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-16 Thread Sheldon Hartling
Hi Craig

I have a Flex-5000, Flex-3000 and KPA500/KAT500 and recently added a KX3.

I have to agree with Matthew (KJ4TN) that both the F3K and KX3 are fine
radios and in "real world" situations its hard to see any receive difference
despite the KX3's better lab performance.

As for softwareŠ I run PowerSDR on Windows7 bootcamp on my iMac for both
the F3K and the KX3. For the KX3, I use PowerSDR version 2.5.3 (the last
version to support the Flex-1000) along with the sdr1kusb.dll library from
Christos Nickolaou (SV1EIA) to provide bi-directional control. It's hard to
tell which radio you're using from the PowerSDR screen. The panadaptor
display and receive controls look and work the same. Connecting the KX3 I/Q
analog output to the built-in iMac stereo input I get 96Khz on the display.
I think with a decent USB external sound card I should be able to get
192Khz.

With the KX3, PowerSDR is used only for receive. You still use the KX3
directly for transmit. The KX3 VFO and band control buttons work directly
with PowerSDR and any PowerSDR also controls the KX3 directly. There are
two connections between the KX3 and the PC/iMAC: a USB or serial plug
connected to the KX3 ACC1 for CAT control, and an audio cable between the
KX3 RX I/O jack and the PC stereo input.

The KX3 has become my new portable rig and I plan on selling the Flex-3000.
I love the Flex-5000 and will keep it as my main radio.

As others have said, your decision depends on what you want to do with it:
 -  If you need 100 watts the F3K is the clear choice;
 - If you want a remarkably small self contained QRP radio (10 to 12 watt),
consider the KX3.
 - remember the F3K requires a FireWire connection and the MacBook Air
doesn't have one. There is a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor but I haven't
tried it with Boot Camp my MacBook Air. Not sure if that's an option.

Using the KX3 with my KPA500/KAT500 amplifier I get about 200 watts.
Eventually I'll probably spring for a KXPA100 for the car.

73 and good luck with your decision,
Sheldon VE1GPY

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-16 Thread hmattc...@juno.com
Craig,?

It all depends what you want to do with the rigs. Yes I have
recently been comparing both rigs side by side. As far as in
the "real world" comparisons, pulling in weak stations in a
crowded band situation, both are equal. Do you want to use a
computer, or do you want knobs and buttons? Do you want
portability? Do you want 10 watts or 100? There are so many
variables in one's preference.

The IMD3 receive rating if better on the KX3 according to Bob Sheerwood, BUT I
con see no audible difference in my ham shack.
I believe what is measured in a lab does not always show any
improvement in the "real world". The notch filtering are the
same, however, the NB was a little bit better on the KX3. To
me they are pretty much the same on receive. Both radios have
equal quality transmit audio. I tested the KX3 with their
optional 2.9 roofing filter, which improved the IMD3 receive.
Even with that the Flex-3000 was equal.

I would say it all depends on how you plan to use the radio.
I was only comparing the two on SSB only. I decided to stay
with the Flex due to the 100 watt output and the panadapter. I
did not care about any portability or qrp.

Hope that helps.

I have had a Flex-3000 for 5+ years, and worked about 190 countries using
just the F3K and a dipole, on CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK 160-10M. So it seems to
work just fine for DXing.

To make a choice, I think you really need to consider the whole picture,
not just Flex-3000 versus Elecraft KX3. As the marketeers keep reminding
us, it's a Software Defined Radio, and the Software is a primary component.
So, you really want to compare the two choices including the software
comparisons. The hardware of both radios is very good, so differences
important to you might be in the available software, and its capabilities
in the ways that you operate. A fair comparison might be the Flex-3000
with PowerSDR/addons versus the KX3/KPA100 with whatever other software
(e.g., HDSDR) you're planning to use with it.

There are other factors that you may or may not care about. E.G., the KX3
can be used QRP without a computer, which might be important if you want to
travel with it. Personally, I'd really miss the Panadapter, so whatever
software I'd want with the KX3 would have to provide something similar.

/Jack de K3FIV

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 for DX'ing and SDR

2013-09-16 Thread Burt
They are different animals. I have the KX3 and the 5000. If I only had one the
5000 would be my choice because it runs 88 more watts

Hi,

I have narrowed down to either a Flex 3000 or Elecraft KX3 for DX'ing and SDR
with my MacBook Air.

Does anyone have experience with the KX3 rig and how it stacks up against the
Flex 3000?

Thank you,

Craig

I am running a Flex 3000 on the newest Mac Mini, 2.7GHz Quad core processor and
8GB ram. DPC's are low and it works great. I run the Flex, DDUTIL, Mini Deluxe,
DM780, HRD Logbook, fldgi and JT65-HF with no problems. Since there aren't any
legacy serial ports it is real easy to setup with VSPMgr.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000

2013-01-04 Thread Steve Sterling
One significant item you left off the items you need is a compatible
personal computer with a compatible firewire interface. The list archive
is full of messages from unhappy people missing the point that an old
junker loaded with viruses and old background apps sucking all the
meager computer resources and leaving nothing left for PowerSDR.

PowerSDR, the application that makes the Flex 1500/3000/5000 work, MUST
be able to operate in real-time without interruption. It can't stop and
stutter as you computer tries to service other junk also running on the
computer. Programs you might not even know are there. A really fast
computer isn't necessary, a really CLEAN computer without poorly written
junk programs or viruses is a must. Also, there are certain Firewire
chipsets that work well, and others that don't.

Operating a Flex 3K mobile sounds real unsafe. I'm sure others have done
it, but a computer screen and mouse might be tough to operate driving
down the road. But then, I wouldn't try to put a Icom 7800 on my dash
either.

Operating remote and in digital modes (RTTY, PSK31, etc) are where a
Flex shines. No RigRunners, soundcards or external cables required-- it
is all done in your computer with "virtual" audio cables and "virtual"
serial cables/ports (for frequency control, PTT, etc).

Yes-- you will need several attachments. Remember, with the Flex you are
getting a rig with better specs than a $12,000+ Icom 7800. I appreciate
that Flex leaves the choice of station speaker, microphone, power
supply, etc. to me, instead of including some piece of junk and
increasing the base price. This way, I am not paying for some mobile mic
that sits in the drawer, and listening to a junky speaker built into the
radio box.

This same philosophy is carried through on software accessories. Some on
this list have complained that the Flex doesn't have logging, digital
mode and remote software "built-in". What the Flex has are standard
software interfaces, so that the operator can interface with the
external apps of their choice. You might like Ham Radio Deluxe, I might
like DX-Labs. We aren't forced into a particular solution. We have choice!

I hope this helps. Steve WA7DUH

Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-3000 sticks on transmits

2012-07-04 Thread Rich - W3ZJ
I originally tried using an MH-31 microphone but have now switched to a
Heil Proset 6 boom headset. The MH-31 had been sitting around collecting
dust for quite some time and I found that the PTT switch had become
erratic. I managed to cure that by taking the microphone apart and
cleaning the switch with an air blaster and a very small small drop of
alcohol. Even though I got the switch fixed I was getting reports of
muffled sounding audio. I managed to improve that some using the 10 band
equalizer but eventually gave up on it and switched to the Proset 6. Now
I and every one who listens to me is happy!

Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 Connection Problem

2012-06-22 Thread Rich - W3ZJ

Jerry,
A couple of weeks ago I started having very similar problems with my
Flex-3000 to what you describe here. Like you I immediately suspected
infant mortality with my fairly new Firewire card and I replaced it to
no avail. I then turned in a trouble ticked to Flex and Dudley pointed
out that there is a status light inside the the case between the
Firewire connector and the PTT RCA jack. It's a bit difficult to see but
if you look through the crack around the Firewire connector you can see
it. In my case it was lit, supposedly indicating that the radio is
communicating with the computer. However, apparently that doesn't tell
the whole story. I decided to take a shot in the dark and replace the
Firewire cable, I had been using the one that came with the F3K. I
bought a good quality cable, 6 Ft. double shielded with gold plated pins
by Gigaware. Bingo, that was it. Now my Flex-3000 is operating normally
again. Of course, I don't know if you have the same problem but it's
sure worth a try!

both new and believed to be good (they worked as far as connecting

Lenovo desktop. A dual core 3 GHz machine with 4 GHz MB of memory

system installed on it. I installed PSDR and the Flex driver without
incident. Windows Device Manager showed the driver comfortably nestled
in place. But, the driver cannot find the Flex. Only shows "Demo"
After fooling around a bit, I swapped the Firewire card into another
PC (not mine) and tried it. It connected right up. I swapped back and

Jerry, this is a long shot, but it sounds like it could be the Firewire
driver issue that was discussed just yesterday here on the reflector. (of
course, it could be something else too, but). Maybe the Flex doesn't
see the Firewire port on one of the machines. Verify that the Firewire
driver is not the generic Windows driver but rather the hardware-specific
driver from the Firewire card's manufacturer. Other than that, I
dunno.?!

Jerry,
I had very similar problem installing my 1500.

What I did to get it to work was go to
c:\Users\username\Appdata\Roaming\FlexRadio Systems and
delete the entire folder "FkexRadio Systems", then uninstalled 2.3.5 again
via

windows 7 uninstall.
Where in above the username is your username or what the name of your

Then follow the install procedures on the quick start.
Hope this helps.

Ted, I found something similar when I built a computer to use with a Flex
1500. My windows installation came with generic drivers for USB 2.0 and
3.0, and I used them without thinking. They worked fine with all my other
hardware, but the 1500's performance was erratic. After a tip from my
computer scientist son I wised up and installed the specific OEM drivers
that came with the motherboard, and made sure that I was using a USB 2.0
only port. Others who are having mysterious glitches may check for this or
related driver problems by looking in device manager. Your USB or Firewire
driver should be one that is specifically written for your hardware, not a
generic driver.

Most laptops have provision to plug in additional interface cards such as

Looking at the specs for the envy 17, It doesn't appear that it does support
additional interface cards.

The problem is with your PC. It is experiencing a long duration DPC
latency event that is in excess of 1500 us and the Firewire buffer is
being over-run. You can use DPCLAT
(http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) or LatencyMon
(http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon) if you are running Vista or Win7.

You can try doing the following.

1.) Open up the Firewire control panel icon on your desktop and change
the operation mode to SafeMode 3

2.) Update all your PC's hardware drivers and BIOS to the latest
versions. Do not use hardware drivers gotten from Microsoft Update.

3.) If the PC is a laptop, disable the wireless, Bluetooth and LAN
adapters. These device are probably the ones responsible for the long
duration DPC hit.

You connect the send (TX OUT) line but no connection to ALC is necessary.
The only time ALC is needed is if the exciter (transmitter) is generating
too much output power and overdriving the amplifier. Since the Flex radios
have very consistent calibrated power output, it is quite easy to set the
output power of the exciter (flex 3000) to provide proper drive to the
amplifier without needing to resort to ALC to prevent overdrive. To get
best linearity set the Flex 3000 drive level to drive the amp to about 80%
of full output on peaks (about 1dB down from full power). 1dB will not be
noticed at the receiver but your signal will be a lot cleaner.

Someone else commented on the lack of ALC input in the Flex radios. The
point is, ALC is only needed if the amplifier is being overdriven. If you
adjust drive levels properly to prevent overdriving the amp, you never need
ALC. I have never had any problem using either the Flex 3000 or Flex 5000
with amplifiers without ALC.

Now it is possible that you have heard that the Flex radios are not
compatible with amplifiers. That rumor has been floating around for quite
some time. It came about as a result of an output overshoot bug in PowerSDR
a couple years back. That was fixed and there have not been problems since.

Marty,

I assume that the documentation is similar between the ALS 600 which you
have, and the ALS 1300, which I have. My documentation says that for
any input power of 100 watts or less, that no ALC control is required.

It does seem that the fluctuations in the output power meter readings are an
artefact of the sampling/averaging process that drives the meter display. I
will have a play with the multimeter options to see if there is a setting which

Thanks again to all for the help!

Got the 3000 working this evening with WSPRnet just fine. The WSJT software
is controlling the rig and decoding signals. Now to chase down the rotten
RFI problem when I transmit! Always a challenge - that is why I have
enjoyed ham radio for so long. See you on the bands.

Just one more question at the moment - do you know a safe place to download
VAC 4.09? I note the wiki cautions against using the later v4.10, and the
only sites I found that pass a McAfee Site Advisor test only will download
4.10. A couple claim to have the earlier version but then download 4.10.
Have to admit some of the sites I found look pretty shady.

It is perfectly OK to purchase VAC. Everybody does. Once you have purchased
it you will have the option of downloading the previous version, 4.09, in
addition to version 4.10.

4.09 works and always works. 4.10 works sometimes and there is a test
version that seems to solve the problems but it is not clear that the fixes
in the test version have been rolled into the release version. (If they had
I would expect it to be called 4.11, not 4.10.)

And the problem is dropouts. Since you are not listening to it, you
wouldn't know it. It will manifest itself as occasional errors in digital
modes that do not use FEC, e.g. RTTY, PSK31, CW, etc.

So, if you want to be 100% sure that everything is working properly,
download and use 4.09. I know, it is blasphemy not to use the latest and
greatest but that is just life.

Start at the beginning with the overview which explains why you need

virtual

those, the rest of the programs a pieces of cake. I prefer fldigi myself.

4.10 will appear to work for a while and then will start having excessive
