Re: [Audyssey] Question about grizzly gulch.

2007-03-26 Thread Karl
Hi,
I have not had problems catching rats under XP. For the rats, you need
to use the left, up and right arrows depending on the direction.
If she can't get into the martial's office, then she is nowhere near
the rat section. After completing your first bank robbery fight, you
need to simply go into any other building, such as the salloon or
visitors center and do one or two things in it.

because shortly after I aparated to the broom cubbert when I was still
in
the broom cubbert he captured me. I personally feel the snoring sound
makes doors difficult to distinguish the one from the other.
I managed to find the centor divination classroom and the care of

I only found the floot in the care of magical creatures classroom; am I

I guess you lull fluffy to sleep with the floot.

Re: [Audyssey] second floor in sarah

2007-03-26 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi.

I'll don't make it to a spoiler, because this door is so easy to find.

At the start at the first floor, try to scan the room with shift d. If the
door isn't to the left, try to go forword and use shift d again.

It should be on your left site.

But I'm sure you need these magical objects you'll find at the first floor
later in the game. Smile.

Best regards Søren.

[Audyssey] Question about grizzly gulch.

2007-03-26 Thread Tom Randall
Hey all, I know grizzly gulch has been discussed on here before, but a
friend of mine is currently playing it and is kind of stuck for a couple
of reasons, some of which may be technical in nature. I am sorry if
these questions are a bit vague, but it is difficult for me to tell
exactly what is going on as she is in Washington and I am in California,
and it's a bit hard to play the game by phone lol. She does not seem
able to get past the part where you catch the rats, and I am not sure if
the game is being weird or if she is just having difficulty. So my
question is, have any of you had difficulty with this on an xp box? I
seem to recall the game having some sound problems with newer
machines/operating systems.

Her second problem I am pretty sure is just that she is not doing
something in the game. She has not been able to get into the marshal's
office to get missions. I seem to recall that you have to do something
or other to make this happen, she has thwarted many bank robberies but
this has done no good. Anyone recall what you have to do here? I would
install the thing and play it myself but I am still running my secondary
system with the crappy inbuilt soundcard that I am almost positive would
cause me problems. Any help on these matters would really be
appreciated. I've not played this all the way through for several years
now and I just don't recall these things.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Hi Gary,

Quote
One thing is in your favor when
developing the game is that your the only one programming it and will, know
all the ins and outs and keeping a dictionary of the varibles and such with
a module type of application. When more then team of programmers are
developing a project this does become a hamper to be sure.
End quote

All of my variables are stored in classes. I am a big believer in fully
object oriented design and programming.
There are actually no global variables. I merely create objects for the
tracks and cars which reference the variables contained in the classes
and subclasses.
Not only does this make my programs more moduler and expandable, but it
keeps the code nice and clean.

Hi Gary,
Yeah, as soon as the Monty beta is out of my hair I want to begin solid
work on the Raceway engine and you better believe I will have you right

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was Montezuma's Revenge

2007-03-26 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
At the moment I don't have commentary or sounds from something like
NASCAR Thunder, but then again most of the sounds I am using for
development are place holders as I look for better stuff.
One thing gamers don't often realise is during game development
developers don't always have all the sounds and stuff on hand while they
are prototyping the code.
Using your idea for commentary I would likely use something like
Neospeech Paul to do all the commentary while developing testing, etc
and then before the big 1.0 release get someone human to do the actual
voicing.
Same with car sounds, crashes, etc. Allot of what I have has been
grabbed from the net. It is better than James North's sounds, but not
much better. I still want to purchase a good sound library or something
to really fill in the audio.
Perhaps, James North was doing something similar as the sounds he had in
the private betas kind of stunk.
However, at this point it doesn't matter what Raceway sounds like as I
don't intend what is currently in the game to remain unless I am unable
to find better which I am sure I can.

Hi Nicol,
I wanted the rememberal to act differently than Shades of Doom.
it is a magical device and sometimes they take longer to work than the
computer direction finder in SOD.
Like the spells take longer to cast than shooting a gun.

Re: [Audyssey] big problems finding doors in sarah

2007-03-26 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi nicol,
In Shades of Doom you are holding a door detector that helps you but in
Sarah you have to go by the sound of snoring and the shift d key which will
tell you how close you are and which direction it is.
If you leave the broom cupboard door open you can get in quicker.
I did not want the game to be exactly like Shades of Doom, and to have
different challenges.
In many rooms of the castle, like the anti chamber you will find nothing of
value, but since some items are placed at random you may find something.
Creating a new area type just for the anti chamber is a time consuming task
and I did not want to spend the time doing it when I had the office area
already set up.

Hello,
If it hurt your ears, then it did its job pretty well. *Grins*
Seriously, when it beeps, that means you're below a chest. Here, you can stop,
turn of the engine of the boat, also the detector, and hook up the chest.
Of course, you don't need to do it to be able to hook the chest up, its enough
if you just tap the down arow until you hear the hook connects with the chest,
then you can pull it up.

[Audyssey] doors in sarah

2007-03-26 Thread nicol
Now I'm 110 percent certain that my 20 minutes is up when peeves gets me
because shortly after I aparated to the broom cubbert when I was still in
the broom cubbert he captured me. I personally feel the snoring sound
makes doors difficult to distinguish the one from the other.
I managed to find the centor divination classroom and the care of magical
creatures classroom, but I find it difficult to distinguish doors from
each other.
I only found the floot in the care of magical creatures classroom; am I
right?
I guess you lull fluffy to sleep with the floot.

 Hi all.
 Found another bug.
There are treasures at the edges of the grid.
At one stage the treasure was at the end of the right side, one step
 away
 from the rocks.
I was able to get this one.
however today I found treasure that was on the rocks.
I hit the rocks before I could take the treasure.
I stopped at the point I hit the rocks and at the same time I
 detected
 treasure.
Another thing is that once I have all treasures I should go up a
 level,
not go looking around the level for a random thing that will put me
 up
 a
 level.
Can't I just automatically go up?
Also any way to get the status of how much food/treasures you have
 and
 how
many on the level and how many you need to get?
Another thing you could do would be at least on easy, that is to
 have
 an
arcade mode in the game, or rather remove the rocks, ok that defeats
 the
purpose but for those on easy its real hard.
The only sound you can here to distinguish the rocks is the sea, and
 there
is loads of that around you with all the fishes.
For a 1.0 release its real good.
But there are things I feel could be improve

hint.
listen to the waves.
oh and listen to the treasure.
if you here a ring or a clink shortly after you pass it your detecter goes off.
With the rock the waves are a good indication, move slowly and you can almost
never hit them.
avoiding the thunder is a pain though.

[Audyssey] big problems finding doors in sarah

2007-03-26 Thread nicol
Hi all
Something is wrong. Sarah says: anti chamber door unlocked. Then I press
enter; I can hear the door opening. and I walk in, I can hear the sound of
my footsteps change. First things first, sarah doesn't say anti chamber when
I press w, it just says office.
And it's a little room with nothing inside it.
Phil in response to your message: yes, I did listen to your second sneek
preview, but I have difficulty locating doors.
I know the doors makes a snoring sound, but I'm so used to the setup in sod.
In sod I can never miss one door.
IN sod if I'm walking down a passage I hear a door sound, or rather I hear
the object locator and o tells me it's a door. Then I walk until the beep
of the door sound decreases in pitch and then I press control+left arrow to
face the door. In sarah it seems as if it doesn't work like that!
When I walk on the ground floor corridor, sarah announces if there is an
opening to either left or right side; and when the corridor turns but its
just as if I cannot locate doors. The only openings that I go into if I
press control left or right arrow is either a suit of armour alcove or an
entrance to the basement.
If I hear a snore sound does it then mean that I have to align sarah
improperly? In other words I have to press my left and right arrow keys on
its own in order to face doors? Pressing control left or control right arrow
will never align me to face a door.
The fact that I so far never detected the caretaker's office proofs that
the setups of sod and sarah confuses me.
Phil please don't get me wrong. It's a great game. I just feel the setup of
sod and sarah confuses me with regards to locating doors.
I also find it impossible to locate the broom cubberd. That's a problem
because if a ghost chases me when I'm near the broom cubbert and I don't
have aparating spells left, I'm toast!
Why can't I find the broom cubbert? You SEE? I'm walking on the ground floor
pressing control right and control left all the time but i'm never aligned
to doors.
Do you understand my problem?

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was Montezuma's Revenge

2007-03-26 Thread Gary Whittington
Hi Tom

No way Raceway, should come out "the" game, since the wait been so long and
besides, your right I only started first to get some termenations downs down
correctly. Some was kidding around with the figure 8, but was making my
point as well, that yes, version 1.x will be a fine game and add ons can
come later. Many sport games do this for doing replays of past seasons and
to build on the game with cool other features. Thats why, I just want to
remind you of keeping the programming to a module style, so things like add
tracks, other types of racing machines. ONe thing is in your favor when
developing the game is that your the only one programming it and will, know
all the ins and outs and keeping a dictionary of the varibles and such with
a module type of application. When more then team of programmers are
developing a project this does become a hamper to be sure all the names for
the varibles are nameed the same throught the application. As we see with
MicroSoft things that has so many problems with security problems is the
fact that they do put security items in the programming, but its the
revaribles that creates cracks in application and other errors. So they
continue with patches for this and that to fix things and that break things
cause of varibles that are not static.

the only person who was duke in by a thinking that by buy an additional
copy of Raceway, was taking it by faith, that Mr North was good enough for
his word. Not going to hash old trash talk here, that is not constructive.
as I and and others do or had investment in Raceway at least should be the
first to get a crack at the game first. These gamers as myself has been
waiting for our ride for a long time. I can not remember if you did or did
not get an listing of those who preorder the game from Nr North and that if
did that can help you in doing something special for them. Those who di are
very grateful for you in stepping up to the plate and taking on someone's
elses promis. Not many would and thats a very noble thing.

Time and money is everything and not to say the work put into it is hard or
fun or both. Hard work is fun if you like hard work.
Tom you must love the work and it must be hard, not only just programming
accessible games but being a MOd for a pretty hi traffic email list. By the
fact you care so much about the blind gamers that it looks to be a passion
for you. So, I have no dout the products you will create will not be fluff
in a box, but a product that will have meat on its bones. Games that are
replayable, aceesible and challengeing.
When I was youger I played many games now that I am older I select a few
games that keep me iinterested. That being my own work and play. Creating
Jaws configs for the Strat-o-matic sport games and able to be involved in a
baseball drat league, I being the only blind person in such a league, takes
most of my time, while developing other projects.

What about Raceway?
Well, I not only put my money into developing a "Nascar" game I feeling
that adding my input into the subject is one of those side projects. So,
while we all have projects, we try to keep the road clear for the number 1
project. For you being Motny, for me to playing baseball in a league with
two teams, thanks to the league commissioner, I feel that I have to show
that the blind can be in an email league with those who have vision. To
able to keep up and get games in on time. Life would be easier if I only
had one team, but having both Chicago teams in a league does show yes I can
even handle two teams. So life is harder but sweeter having my beloved Cubs
and White Sox teams to manage.

It won't be long now. Just think ahead will less and less updates about
Monty is posted and more and more Raceway news. Oh, boy!, So, I and other
will be tuning up and tuning in. the expectation of knowing that just more
email about the developing of Raceway is a year a way gets me all Revved .
Up!

Credit to you and those who invested in this dream should get there name in
the credits for Raceway for keeping the game alive this long.
I would love to get a credit inserted in the game if I am able to by either
suggestions, testing, financeing the game. I do what I can to support the
blind comunity in giving tech help, create my Jaws configs for Strat, dong
my blind accesible pools, broadcasting and financeing causes like yours and
Raceway.
Once Monty is a resale item and should help with the cost of Raceway's
development. So, build the dammist best Monty game you can so that is a
nice huck of change for Raceway.
Once I see MOnty is bug free when it is released I will add my donation to
Raceway and get the Monty game. I would be doing the same with fPhils new
game, but seeing some trouble on the list, had to hold my horses before
getting the Sarah game.
And there we are agin around the track of create games that will be a grat
game to play and e

Hello all,
This is not a bug, when you hear the currents on the cliffs, and you know there
is a chest nearby, you have to slow down, and go really slowly, sometimes
by tapping the right arrow, because the chest is really close to the cliffs.
Sometimes you are going too fast, and you just crash on the cliffs, and hear
the chest detector together. That is because the ches was really a few inches
away from the cliffs.
Its really hard to get these, i know.

I think the intro clip was done very good!
Also the sound that plays when your score is posted. It sounds like
someone writing down the score and if the score doesn't reach the top10,
you hear how the paper is torn and thrown away.

Well, that's relatively easy, just listen for a long, shallow sea sound
with
a bit of undertone, like the sound a sea would make against the shore
coming
from one side more strongly than the other.

While it was a pest at first, I can usually pick it out now, however
knowing
how far away from the rocks I actually am is much harder, but I'd put
that
type of thing down to practice rather than game design.

What i find difficult to do in this game is catch the fish. They don't
 seem
to pan properly. This is probably because I'm using stereo headphones
 and
not a surround system though. I think many of us are using headphones.

I've only got one or 2, I concerntrate on the treasure detecter, the only issue
is when the treasure is a step away from a wall or up against it, you sometimes
can't get it or you hit before you can if you are not watdching your rear.

 Hi all.
 Found another bug.
There are treasures at the edges of the grid.
At one stage the treasure was at the end of the right side, one step
 away
 from the rocks.
I was able to get this one.
however today I found treasure that was on the rocks.
I hit the rocks before I could take the treasure.
I stopped at the point I hit the rocks and at the same time I detected
 treasure.
Another thing is that once I have all treasures I should go up a level,
not go looking around the level for a random thing that will put me up a
 level.
Can't I just automatically go up?
Also any way to get the status of how much food/treasures you have and
 how
many on the level and how many you need to get?
Another thing you could do would be at least on easy, that is to have an
arcade mode in the game, or rather remove the rocks, ok that defeats the
purpose but for those on easy its real hard.
The only sound you can here to distinguish the rocks is the sea, and
 there
is loads of that around you with all the fishes.
For a 1.0 release its real good.
But there are things I feel could be improved.
