I'm way behind on Email, but my thought is this: When you arrive at a
platform, time how long it stays there, then jump onto it and move across,
jump off, or whatever you must do, acordingly, now that you know how much
time you have.

Re: [Audyssey] Alchemy pre-orders now shipping.

2007-12-08 Thread Tom Randall
Just wanted to say that I received my license from USA Games and
registered Montezuma's Return with no difficulty. I have played it some
but have not gotten very far as yet . I for one would like to
once again extend a public thanks to Thomas for taking on this project
and reviving these titles. Without his hard work and dedication this
excellent rendition of a classic title plus Raceway would have been
relegated to the might have been category. I will certainly be letting
all my blind friends know about this one particularly those who might
remember the classic game fondly.

Best regards,

Tom

Dear former Alchemy customers,
USA Games is proud to announce that from December 5 through December 15
we are going to be emailing out product keys to former Alchemy
customers. We have already licensed about 10 users on December 4, and
will continue to send out product licenses to as many folks as we can
during the next 10 days.. If you do not receive your product key by
December 15 and you pre-ordered a copy of montezuma's Return from
Alchemy it could be do to one of the problems below.

1. Your email address and telephone number has changed, and our customer

service department is unable to contact you directly.
2. your record of sale is not in our sales records. In the case we do
not have your record of sale we require a valid sales receipt from
Alchemy Game Studios in order to ship you a product key. Please,
understand we will not email anyone a valid license unless we have a
sales record or a valid sales receipt.
Thank you.

I've noticed another bug. not sure if anyone else is experiencing this,
but
sometimes when jumping to try to get away from a monster, I seem to
climb
something even though there's nothing to climb. when this happens
monsters
don't attack me at all and I need to hit down arrow to jump down. it's
the
weirdest thing. if noone experiences this I can record it.

Re: [Audyssey] Sryth- Skill level VS. Melee Rating

2007-12-08 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi AC

The training of skills/subskills will increase ones MR. Though it's a
litttle slow. I think it's one point gained for every 10 levels of
training. But after about 70 it's almost impossible to train more due to
the cost of xp. I don't recall if other weapon subskills assist overall.
The quickest way by far is better weapons and armour.

Subject: [Audyssey] Sryth- Skill level VS. Melee Rating

Hi list,
I am wondering about the following.
I have noticed that I tend to do more damage the higher my Melee Rating
is in comparison to my skill level in Weaponry and the weaponry slashing
subskill level.
My question is this.
Is it in my best interest to continue to increase my skill level in
weaponry and weaponry slashing? I am currently at 60 the adept level of
mastery in each, but it doesn't seem to make a difference until I get the
execution message...
"You execute a stroke worthy of your adept level in weaponry...Slashing
at 22 Mr for this round."
I can notice a difference in damage after this is executed.
However, should I concentrate more on changing my types of armor in order
to increase my MR rather than spending more experience on my weaponry
skill level for now?
I just thought of something else. Do you think my MR would change
(increase) if I added more of the weaponry subskills such as bashing,
stabbing, etc... to my repertoire?
Thanks for any suggestions and insights you all may have on this.

The control f or control shift f won't work in OE. I'd have to say that
saving the email as a text file on your hard drive then using notepad or
whatever program would be a better solution.

2007-12-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
If you are viewing the magazine in notepad then yes, control-f will do
this. If you are viewing the magazine in an html file, then your screen
reader such as Window-Eyes will have it in a special msaa buffer. In
Window-Eyes it's called browse mode. From within browse mode you can
press control-shift-f and search for the plus signs from within browse
mode. So, this is why the plus signs are there to begin with. In fact,
when you do not have an thml version of a document, it's a sure way of
getting from point a to point b to point c, especially with screen
readers. Just takes a little know-how.

[Audyssey] problem loading a game from the main menu in sarah

2007-12-08 Thread nicol
I came across a bug which happens each time I want to load a game using the
load game option from the main menu.
When I press enter on load game instead of taking me directly to the list of
save slots, I'm on the ground floor.
Sometimes sarah is stuck, she can't go anywhere.
It once even happened that the goblin appeared and I'm playing the game only
on easy at this stage.
But sarah doesn't stay on the ground floor, I hear peeves for a few
seconds and then the list of save slots comes up.
This only happens if I choose load game from the main menu, if I press f4
within the game I can load a game immediately.

Phil in the walk through you said one must use the up password at the mouth
of the pipe to get back into the prefects bathroom.
I think that is why sarah died, because I used the asendium password because
the up password wasn't in my password list.
So because I used asendium sarah probably didn't change back to human form
and thus died after a while.
So if I understand this correctly, if I use the up password sarah will
change back to human.
But I just can't find the up password. I have pressed enter on the old
parchment hundreds of time in my inventory.
In this sequence.
Press tab, locate old parchment and hit enter.
Hit p and look for the up password but it isn't there.
This I have done hundreds of times. Sometimes passworeds I haven't used yet
such as fliberty gibit and pigsnout appears in the password list but the
up password isn't there.
You said in the walk through sarah will be in murmaid form for an hour.
So does this mean I have to swim around in the lake for an hour before I can
go back to the prefects bathroom?
If the problem of sarah dying is not the up password, if sarah have to stay
in the lake until the hour is up, this is quite borring to swim around in
the lake.
And I cannot stun the grindelow and murpeople.
I did as the walkthrough states, use the agwamenti spell for the mur people
guarding the statue and the stupefy spell on the grindelow.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkeyterm and Windos Vista.

2007-12-08 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hmm. I got that to work, but now the jfwapi won't work. Monkeyterm uses
VBScript to access jfwapi.dll, and whenever it tries to speak it brings up
all these VBScript runtime errors, saying it can't create objects and object
required.

I did try manually registering jfwapi.dll, but it says the dll was loaded
but couldn't be registered. My guess is Vista doesn't like jfwapi, haha.
Maybe it's that user account thing again

Ron,

Last night I read through your latest Audyssey for the third time.
What a grand job!

I didn't know that Matthew is a "neighbor" down in Connecticut.

Your compilation of game tips and explanations has got to be a useful place
for gamers to look for help.

And your extensive collection of developer announcements is, to my
knowledge, unique in our industry.
I know that Game Developer's Magazine doesn't have one.

When Marketing comes bugging me for help on their 2008 Top 25 list, or
other research,
I'm gonna point them at your magazine and tell them to come back after
they've done some homework.

Congratulations,

Ari,

If you get the Perceptions edition of the Game Book, then all of the games
are playable by gamers who are blind.
That includes:
1. The Inspector Cyndi in Newport - Death Nell mystery game.
2. The Kim's Game memory puzzle
3. The Definitions Game word game
4. The Crambles word game
5. The Completion word game

Our Standard edition of the Game Book includes an arcade game named
Sandusky instead of The Completion game.

11 feet is the closest I can get to the grindelow, if I go forward one step

Phil you said in the walk through that there is matches in the

turn those into needles but sarah can use them to light a fire.
I can't find any matches in the transfiguration classroom, its an empty
classroom with no items whatsoever.
But I can use the insendio charm, I was just wondering why I can't find the
matches.

Re: [Audyssey] the prefects bathroom in sarah

2007-12-08 Thread nicol
Now I know what took away all my magical energy.
Sarah is stil a murmaid although she have returned from the lake.
So a murmaid is like a fish, it can't live above water. So that means sarah
dies in murmaid form, so I should use something to return sarah to a human
before she dies but what?
Because I have aparated to the broom cupboard and sarah still lost her
magical energy.

While walking around the prefects bathroom, I suddenly lost all my magical
energy at once.
I had 4470 bits and I suddenly heard the sound that plays letting me know
that I have no magical energy left and the game is over
I never heard the sound that I have lost a bit of my energy while in the
bathroom, I just suddenly heard this tune letting me know I have lost all
my energy.
Is it necessary for me to find the golden egg in the toilet if I already
have the one from the dragon?
Am I correct that the golden egg only plays a beautiful song while in the
swimming pool, it doesn't have any function?
I was looking for the toilet stall where the egg is but I couldn't find it
within the prefects bathroom.
How do I get to that toilet stall?
I wanted to try turning on patronous mode and scare away peeves if he tries
to pull the velve.
I have been to the lake. You said in the walk through that after eating the
gilliweed sarah will be a murmaid for an hour. Now I have returned to the
prefects bathroom through the pipe.
I opened the fossel again but now I can't get into the pool again. I wanted
to get into the pool again to see if I can scare away peeves with a
patronous charm if he tries to pull the drain velve.

Hi Nicol,
No it is the same howler but comes in on a different level.
spoiler
space
You can play the ground floor without getting the howler if you do not pick
up all the items.
I am adding it to the Owlery tower.
I can make changes to the game levels but I do not want to add new sounds
unless it is absolutely necessary.
Today I found out that on her web site JK Rowling stated that the Elder Wand
or in my game the Headmaster's wand is made of, Elder wood and the tail hair
of a thestral, a substance that can be mastered only by someone capable of
facing death.

Re: [Audyssey] doors in sarah

2007-12-08 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Nicol.
To locate doors I do some of the below.
1. I turn the object detector on by hitting O.
This does not work in rooms with a lot of stuff but it does work well in
corridors.
2. As I am walking down a corridor and hear a snore getting close I start to
hit the enter key every second or two.
When I hear the door open I stop and go back a bit or just turn into it.
3. I also hit the x key every few seconds and when it says the name of the
door I know I am usually close enough to hit enter to open it.
4. Before turning I suggest hitting the f key to remind you which direction
you were heading.
5. You can mark all the doors you explored so the mark will let you know you
do not need to check that door out again.
I think control r does that without a penalty.

[Audyssey] doors in sarah

2007-12-08 Thread nicol
I feel it will be much easier to locate doors if phil could put each door
within an alcove including the broom cupboard door.
I tried pressing control+left arrow when I hear a snoring sound but that
doesn't put me near a door. I have to press the left and right arrows to
center the door and if it's a room I already visited then its so difficult
to get the direction of where I was before centering the door.
In other words, if I hear a snoring off to my left and at that moment I
press control+left arrow I just bump into a wall, pressing x does nothing. I
have to center the door by using left and right arrow.
It seems like control left and right arrow only works for branching
corridors, not to center a door.
It would be sooo cool if each door can be placed inside an alcove like the
small empty alcoves you get within sarah.
In shades of doom I walk down a passage and I hear the object locator, I
know there is a door coming. If I hear the object locator's pitch drops then
I know I can press control+ left arrow to face that door.
I know phil feels the snoring of a door fits in with the theme of magic but
the way doors currently works is a bit confusing.

Hi Nicol,
Thanks for the idea, several people have suggested it.
I was also planning to have the dementors catch you if you left the sweet

I could add in a lot of new ideas like a spell lighting the cat's tale on
fire but if I took the time to add them all in the game, I would postpone
working on my next game.

Hi. Just to update this, I was one of the original CD holders of these

on there are outdated and new versions are needed for the best

Hi Bryan,
Yes, it is. However, all of the jump functions share some elements of
each other, and it is possible the same function that caused jump up to
act strange is causing jump left and right to act strange as well.
The code that actually does the leap upwards is shared among all the
jump commands and that is where I am going to start looking. Though,
apparently it could be the land() function that is at fault because it
isn't bringing the player down to the ground.

This is quite on topic. So don't worry about it. Monkey Term is on topic
since allot of users do use it on here for accessing muds.

I've heard people are using the Monkeyterm client with Windows Vista.
I've attempted

It is possible Monkey Term is crashing do to Vista's User Account
control. Try the following and see if it helps. To bypass Vista's UAC
go to the Monkey Term icon, press the context menu key, arrow to run as
administrator, and press enter. Vista will prompt you to confirm, and
then launch the program as a full administrator. In my personal
experience this usually bypasses allot of crashes on apps that can't run
do to UAC.

Re: [Audyssey] bonus levels in monty

2007-12-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Yohandy,

Quote
after replying to this I had an idea. How about having extra levels to
people that pay a fee? For instance if we pay a fee of $5.00, we get a few
extra levels. this way those that choose to pay get more game content, and
you get some extra cash.
End quote

You mean something along the lines of the Pinball Party pack for ESP
Pinball Extreme where you buy extra tables for the game? I suppose that
is doable, but I would have to really do some restructuring of the game
to include dinamic levels since the game currently is fixed for the 11
main levels scheduled. I'll probably put the boss in its own level
bringing the total to 12.
It is a good idea, but I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to
it. First, i think we need to focus on getting the core game stable and
ready for sale.

I figured this is one of the best places to ask.

The error message is as follows:
Run-time error '-2147221500 (80040004)' Couldn't create key: .mos
Time='12/06/07 22:33:51' App='MonkeyTerm:2.1.0'

Number: -2147221500 = &H80040004 = vbObjectError + 4 =

sKeyName='.mos')
  Trace:

I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me how to correct this issue so
I can continue to use the client, or at the very least direct me to somewhere
else more appropriate to ask this.

Thanks!

Phil why did you put a howler when sarah is in the lake. This howler sounds
exactly the same as the one on the ground floor. It doesn't bother me, I'm
just curious.

[Audyssey] the doormat in sarah

2007-12-08 Thread nicol
Just for fun, I think phil should do the same with the front doormat what
he did with the flue pouder.
If sarah tries to unlock the front door with the alohamora spell the door
unlocks, if she opens the door, she will automatically open the door and
exit the castle.
The news will spread to her father that sarah is outside the castle and
within a second he aparates and takes her home.
