Hi Jeremy,
that's a shame you won't be working on the game, it actually did sound
like it could be really cool, especially with the different weapon
choices and skill set choices.
will you reconsider, and actually think about turning this into a proper
game if there is enough demand from the community?
I could see it having a lot of replay value if you actually did develop
it further.

I suppose I would always consider changing my mind if enough people were
interested in it. Of course, it would be pushed to
the end of a very long line of games and projects I'm working on. It might be
better to just keep it as an abandoned game so
that maybe another developer could use the storyline or something.

Hi Alex,

Sorry. I did get your message, but haven't made an official decision on it
as yet. It really has nothing to do with gaming which means it would
technically be off topic, but I also understand your reasons why you
are asking. Its for that reason I'm trying to see if there is a better
alternative to posting an off topic message to the list which would go
against guidelines.

Hi Connor,

That's one of the challenges of the game. Potions are randomly placed
at the beginning of the level so you will never know where they are or
when you will find one. The best thing to do is avoid the harpies if
you can or kill them before they get you.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-09-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

True, but a person could just as well use the tools they are given
such as r for room number and x to get the character's coordinates on
the map. That's what they are there for, but unfortunately some
testers ignore the tools they are given and expect me to figure things
out based on description alone instead of specific information that is
only a key or two away. That is perhaps the most frustrating part of
doing beta testing with the general public is not everyone makes a
good tester and overlook the obvious information that can make or
break an easy fix.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-09-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Curt,

Could you be more specific where you are in the game? Like what level
and what room number specifically. I'm afraid I don't know where you
are by your description. On level one the spikes aren't anywhere but
room 19 which isn't even close to the rope. On level 2 I think they
are in like room 16 and room 19. Again not near any ropes. So it
sounds to me like you aren't making much sense here.

Could you be more specific where you are in the game? Like what level
and what room number specifically. I'm afraid I don't know where you

room 19 which isn't even close to the rope. On level 2 I think they

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA question

2011-09-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Curt,

No offence, but that's even more confusing. Room 8 is the room with
the broken floor which you have to jump over to reach room 9. That's
after you open the bronze statue in room 7. If you went left, back
into room 7 and down the wooden staircase, that would bring you back
into room 1. If you are in room 1 and move left you would run into a
stone wall. Besides that there are no items in room 1. That's the room
you start out in. Are you checking the rooms using the r key or
guessing room numbers here?

The reason I ask is your descriptions of things don't match the actual
level map file. You are describing things that are in other rooms. So
it sounds like you are guessing room numbers rather than actually
using the r command to get room and location info.

HTH

If you open the bronze statue in room 7, and walk right you will find
a large opening in the floor you need to jump over. That's right not
left.

Go down the staircase, move right into the room with the fire pit,
jump the fire pit, and continue right until you reach a rope. Go down
the rope and walk left until you find a bronze lever. Pull the lever
and run back to the rope, climb it, jump onto the ledge, and run left
until you reach the staircase. Go up the staircase and walk right
andpress enter on the statue, and it should open. Keep in mind though
that locks are timed and if you don't reach the statue in a certain
amount of time the lock will reset and you'll have to repete the
process.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Question

2011-08-21 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan,

Well, to be honest I kind of think that is cheating. That's why there
isn't at least one potion in Angela's inventory at the beginning of
the game. After all, if you start a new game, tangle with a harpy, and
end up dying as a result that's just bad luck. You can just restart
the game and maybe get more favorable results the next time. I guess
to sum up my opinion it is a question of challenge, difficulty, and
weather or not it is realistic that Angela will just happen upon a
potion each and everytime she steps into a tomb right off.

Besides that, it goes without saying this is one of the basic
challenges in random chance. If you flip a coin in the air it will
either come up heads you win or tails you lose. There is nothing
assuring you that you will get heads each and every time that coin is
flipped. Same concept applies to my games.

Sometimes you will enter a room and you will mow down a skeleton,
injure a centaur, get ripped by a harpy, or encounter nothing at all.
Sometimes there will be a potion nearby and sometimes you will have to
really search to find one. Its a coin toss weather or not you will get
lucky sometimes, and its this degree of challenge and uncertainty I
enjoy. So that is why I ditched the idea of giving you one or two
freebies to help you get passed the first few monsters.

Cheers!

first monster you encounter will be a Harpie, much less whether you'll find
a potion soon afterward. Because it can sometimes be difficult to avoid
getting hit when fighting a Harpie, and if you are you obviously want to
have a potion handy to cure the poison. So I'd like to see the free potion

[Audyssey] a question for all xbox 360 owners.

2011-08-14 Thread Yohandy

   Hey guys,
I'd love to get unbiased feedback from all those who own an Xbox 360. I'm
considering purchasing a console. Are there any reasons why I should do
this, apart from better accessibility? Are there any good exclusives on the
Xbox that are playable for us, that do not exist on ps3? remember, I own a
play station 3, so I'd love it if there were some exclusive games I could
play that would justify the purchase more. All I have to go by now is the
whole accessibility thing, which I must agree is a whole lot better on the
360 if what I've seen of the website is any indication. in fact, if any of
you own a 360 I'd love it if you include a link to your Xbox live profile so
I can check out how it looks and whatnot. I've also noticed that 360 owners
tend to talk more trash when we're dealing with online competitions. so
beating all of you senseless in mortal kombat is another great reason to get
one. mwahahahaha! It's really going to suck having to purchase games all
over though. however I must face the facts. sony might have all the
exclusives, but when it comes to accessibility, Microsoft is destroying ps3.
all the games I enjoy are on 360 as well as ps3, and there are no ps3
exclusives that are very playable for blind people. ps3's blu-ray is
awesome, but blind people could care less about blu-ray technology since we
can't see it anyway. I'm planning to keep my ps3, but the Xbox will be a
great system to own as well. I heard that the new slim 360 is totally sweet
and as quiet or quieter than the ps3, and that it no longer has the RROD
issue, so my 2 biggest reasons for not owning a 360 in the past are now
eliminated. then there's that new controller microsoft came out with. anyone
tried it, and has the Dpad improved? do new consoles come with that
controller by default, or the old one? also new 360 has wi-fi capabilities
now, and touch sensitive buttons, just like the ps3. not sure if it still
has the tray or the eject mechanism, which I much prefer to be honest. I've
realized while writing this email that I've pretty much ran out of reasons
not to buy a 360 hahaha. in the past it was pretty broken, but it's real
solid now. Sony better step up the competition or they're going to be
flattened.

Re: [Audyssey] Castaway question

2011-08-06 Thread Christopher Bartlett
Lori, wading through a lot of emails after a week's absence, so I don't know
if this is answered further up in the list, but if not:
Castaways is a different sort of animal from SoundRTS in that you do not
directly control your castaways. You assign them tasks, and the game
figures out a priority for those tasks, based on the professions you choose,
the state of your supplies and the locations of your buildings. There are
probably other factors involved, but these are the major ones off the top of
my head. So, you do not order your peasants to drop off meat at the storage
house, they just do it as time and supplies permit, based on your choices of
professions and projects.

As for health, the health of each person appears to be the average of the
energies for the four food groups, meat, vegetables, bread and wine. I'm
not sure if people's performance is dependent upon their energy state,
though I have some evidence to suggest that it may be. Again, you cannot
directly affect their energy, only set up the conditions, sufficient food
production and peasants to carry it to the tavern, plus a cook and
optionally a bartender to serve the food.

Hi I've finally managed to get the game going on my machine, and have read the
how to play and read-me files, but I can't find anything about how to make a
unit like a pesant move. I've built a storehouse and am trying to get all my
units to go there and drop their food. Also is each units health different or
should they all be at 100% meanint full health? Would love to hear a
walkthrough of this one, I'm also trying out the game with some background
music playing on my media player in the background just to see if I could get
the right mood going, not to detract from the game in any way. Also how do I
save my game? Thanks, I like this game's story. From Lori.

Re: [Audyssey] a question about entombed

Worth means it sells for more at the shop I believe, but hardness is a
really useful one.

In entombed, every weapon and monster is made of a material with a different
hardnesswhich affects how much damage is done. by comparing relative
hardness of weapon and the skin of the thing your hitting.

This is why creatures like the stone guardians and the drake take so litle
damage when you hit them, even if against normal enemies your attacks
are pretty devastating.

It's not magical resistance, it's just hardness of skin.

Re: [Audyssey] A question for Aprone

Hi Yohandy,

I don't believe what you want to do is possible based on my
understanding of the Windows API. You can put a laptop display to
sleep to save battery power etc, but Windows is designed to wake up
the display as soon as someone presses a key or moves the mouse
around. You forget, I think, that someone sighted would have no use
for such a program as you describe, and therefore that functionality
was never built into the Windows API to begin with let alone programs
to disable the display.

There is however an alternative way to get what you want. Someone
could lower the brightness on the display, darken it, so that the text
is harder to read unless you are very close to the display. That might
prevent any snooping over your shoulder.

Hi Thomas,

I have the same understanding after reading further into the topic, though I
am uncertain as to how often you may issue this command. What would happen,
for instance, if one were to send the command to all windows 5 or 10 times

quickly, so I think the only other option is to go and mess with drivers on

In windows 7, press windows+p to bring up the projector options. Arrow down

another way is to set the font to as small as you can go and set the
resolution to as low as you can though that does muck with readers some.

Hello there,
I recall a discussion on a list awhile back on saving battery power in a
laptop.
Most if not all laptops have the ability to hook an external monitor to the
laptop.
There will be a key combo that you can hit to switch the display from the
laptop LCD to the external monitor.

If I understand this right when you do this switch the LCD is powerd down.
This will hide what you ar doing from snooping eyes if you have headphones
hooked to the laptop.

Re: [Audyssey] A question for Aprone

2011-06-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Philip,

There probably is a way to accomplish this, but I'm just unclear as to
how to go about it at the moment. I've seen two very good suggestions
already like switching from the display to the external video port of
the laptop if it has one, and I just looked at the Windows 7 projector
settings as was recommended here and it seems there is a way to turn
the display off temporarily. At least under Windows 7. Not sure about
XP though. So perhaps there is some obscure method for disabling the
display in the Windows API after all. That would be much preferable
over messing with the display at the hardware/driver level.

On 6/15/11, Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com wrote:

Hi Thomas,

I have the same understanding after reading further into the topic,
though I
am uncertain as to how often you may issue this command. What would
happen,
for instance, if one were to send the command to all windows 5 or 10
times
per second? My guess is that it might drain the battery of any laptop
rather
quickly, so I think the only other option is to go and mess with drivers
on
the direct hardware level. Not uninstalling, but disabling them
temporarily.

I'm pretty sure that there must be a way to accomplish this.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

well its probably not always the screen that has the issue but the audio.
My friend that uses his laptop all the time says if he turns off his
audio soundcards, and everything he does not use ie wireless orj ust
leaves his wireless and screen on and nothing else that battery runs ok.
Unfortunately for us unless we have something external that powers
off its own powersource then we are stuck.

and everything on a usb unless its got its own source powers of the unit.

The laptop screen is too small for me to want to try and use for
anything visual like playing graphical games or watching dvds, and
certainly for all the standard windows things it's not necessary,
yet it's taking up my battery life which is irritating.

Personally, I don't think you ripped his head off at all. You, as
so many other list members have tried and tried again to tell him,
that he should do a little of the work himself rather than send so
many questions about games being available, where he can get this
or that game, whether a game is blind friendly, what the cost of a
given game is, how a given game is played, and other similar
questions that can easily be answered by downloading a game and
reading the user's guide that comes with it, trying a game before
asking how to play it, and browsing the sites that contain lists of
games and where to get them. One extremely annoying type of post I
have seen is one that asks for cheats or how to solve a puzzle in a
game that someone doesn't even have yet. There is no sense in that.

If I remember right, this list was created for gamers to discuss
games that, whether by design or not, are playable by blind
people. If, and that is the key word, if, you get stuck at a
particular point in a game, and if?, you have tried to get beyond
that point and just can't seem to figure it out, and if?, you have
looked through the user's guide to no avail, then you should ask
list members for hints or help, but not before you have previously
taken such steps on! your! own!

Hi,

Well, I was expressing my feelings and opinion about the situation.
You are right I could have been less harsh about it, but I personally
find Michael extremely irritating. I've never found anyone who can
rub me the wrong way just like he does. Perhaps one of us needs to
leave the list, because as a moderator I shouldn't attack other
listers as I did, but at the same time as a lister I can't stand the
guy. He just rubs me the wrong way.

However, you did make me realise one thing. Given the fact that I'm
more likely to lose my temper with Michael, not react as a moderator
should, when it comes to Michael I'll let Raul or Kevin deal with him
from now on. At least then he will have an objective moderator were I
can honestly say I'm not always objective when he is concerned. Sorry,
Michael, for ripping your head off a moment ago. From now on I'm going
to block your messages from my personal inbox and the problem is
solved.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Would you please stop asking questions like this on the list. It is
beginning to get very annoying, frustrating, and down right irritating
to read day after day. You should know by now if someone like
Audiogames.net says there is only a demo available then there is only
a demo available. Why do you consistently come back to the list
questioning everything and anything the website says?

I'm frankly sick and tired of it. Consider this your final warning.
Any more questions of this nature and you will be moderated
indefinitely. Do I make myself clear?

Sometimes when I look stuff up I don't get the answers I'm looking for.
That is why I will come to the list to ask these kind of question.

Sorry if I do this but I thought this is where I can get the answers.

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Contrary to what you believe I'm not singling you out. Yes, this is a
list for discussing games, but not everyone constantly bombards the
list with questions like the ones you have been asking. If I'm not
mistaken a few months ago you were the one asking if this game or that
game was the latest version. Now, you are asking how to get the full
version of games like Drive when all of that information is supplied
on Audiogames.net. I looked and found the information in about a
minute. So why can't you do the same?

My point is not that the questions are off topic, or that the
question/questions shouldn't be asked. It is that it is extremely
irritating to those of us who get hundreds of messages a day, have to
sort through it, only to find some guy once again asked a question
that could have been answered simply by looking at the website
directly. All I'm saying is that it is good list practice to look up
as much as possible before coming to the list with questions. That
goes for everyone not just you. That keeps traffic down, and helps
filter out some of the unnecessary posts/questions.

HTH

Sorry,

Personally, I don't think you ripped his head off at all. You, as so many
other list members have tried and tried again to tell him, that he should do
a little of the work himself rather than send so many questions about games
being available, where he can get this or that game, whether a game is blind
friendly, what the cost of a given game is, how a given game is played, and
other similar questions that can easily be answered by downloading a game
and reading the user's guide that comes with it, trying a game before asking
how to play it, and browsing the sites that contain lists of games and where
to get them. One extremely annoying type of post I have seen is one that
asks for cheats or how to solve a puzzle in a game that someone doesn't even
have yet. There is no sense in that.

If I remember right, this list was created for gamers to discuss games that,
whether by design or not, are playable by blind people. If, and that is the
key word, if, you get stuck at a particular point in a game, and if?, you
have tried to get beyond that point and just can't seem to figure it out,
and if?, you have looked through the user's guide to no avail, then you
should ask list members for hints or help, but not before you have
previously taken such steps on! your! own!

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

Thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to say when I lost my
temper. Your responce was much more to the point, clear, and better
explained than my own. The reason I lost my temper with Michael is no
matter how many times we ask him to do a little research, find out the
answers to his questions when it is often planely discussed on the
parent website, he comes right back and asks the question on list.
Once and a while I could over look, but every day of the week gets to
be, well, irritating and annoying. Especially, since Michael's soul
purpose on this list is to ask questions like where to I get game x,
how do I play game x, is it the latest version of game x, is this the
demo or full version of game x, etc. He is like a broken record. Over
time it just gets on my nerves, because it is totally unnecessary.
Most, if not all, of those questions can be found out by reading the
website, downloading and trying the game, reading the game's user
documentation, etc. Yes, this list is here to help, but a little
personal initiative to find some of this information out on his own
would be nicer than flooding my inbox with a daily stream of those
kinds of questions.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

I would agree that would be the ideal lister but the world isn't
perfect nor are people. One very common flaw is a lot of people are
just too lazy to look things up. I often get questions on how do I do
this or that in MOTA. I ask have they read the manual where the answer
is and they reply they haven't. As a developer I find that kind of
question both lazy and a tad bit insulting as I spent a good handful
of days writing that manual, and the person didn't even bother looking
at it before posting a question. That kind of question just pushes my
buttons, and frankly makes me angry. Which is why Michael's post set
me off earlier because I went, looked around, and found out the
information just by spending a little time looking for the answer
rather than taking the lazy way out and sending a post.

Personally, I don't think you ripped his head off at all. You, as so many
other list members have tried and tried again to tell him, that he should
do a little of the work himself rather than send so many questions about
games being available, where he can get this or that game, whether a game
is blind friendly, what the cost of a given game is, how a given game is
played, and other similar questions that can easily be answered by
downloading a game and reading the user's guide that comes with it, trying
a game before asking how to play it, and browsing the sites that contain
lists of games and where to get them. One extremely annoying type of post
I have seen is one that asks for cheats or how to solve a puzzle in a game
that someone doesn't even have yet. There is no sense in that.

If I remember right, this list was created for gamers to discuss games
that, whether by design or not, are playable by blind people. If, and
that is the key word, if, you get stuck at a particular point in a game,
and if?, you have tried to get beyond that point and just can't seem to
figure it out, and if?, you have looked through the user's guide to no
avail, then you should ask list members for hints or help, but not before
you have previously taken such steps on! your! own!

From now on I'm going
to block your messages from my personal inbox and the problem is
solved.

Cheers!

Hey, I found a demo to drive and sonic zoom.
What I would like to know is their a full version of these games? If
so where can I get the full version of both the games?

I found these on audiogames.net when I was looking for something else.

Hello Michael,

Honestly don't you read the messages that get posted to the list?
First off the game is called Super Shot, S u p e r S h o t, not
Supershock. The other is yesterday Liam announced that because the
game is abandonware he is not going to support it in any way, shape,
or form right now. He can not sell you a product key, he can not
generate a product key, and you have to play the demo as is because he
lost the source code for it.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] A question about playing games and my computer

2011-03-03 Thread shaun everiss

no, that is not usually.
Depending on how your cpu handles heat the fan has different speeds.
if you play a game and it gets louder thats fine.
If it doesn't drop afterward or if your fan is loud anyway or your
system crashes loads then be concerned with it.

Replacing the fan or cleaning it would be a good idea.
OR its just windows being stupid.
What can you do.
If you can't afford fixing or replacing fans and getting repairs for
your laptop or whatever try cleaning the registry, closing stuff you
don't need to or something like run an antivirus program.

If that still doesn't fix it, you can try a reformat.
And the problem may just go away if you are lucky.
If it is the fan or whatever its going to fail eventually.
There are extra fans you can stick under the laptop which cost little
which I may do for extra cooling.

At 02:14 p.m. 3/03/2011, you wrote:

I should also add that there are fan programs that are supposed to
slow the fan.
Though this works on slower systems or systems that are to loud on a

ON my grandpa's system the fan kept going on and off, this is the
main fan so I abandoned software.

These days the newer systems are dead quiet as it is.

2011-03-03 Thread shaun everiss
true though I tried a metal fan last night but found it a little bit
smaller there is another plastic job which has the same function but is bigger.
I don't need one but this doubles as a stand for the unit meaning I
can use it in more places as long as its not a couch which should rock.

A good place would be the floor, or a low table.

Re: [Audyssey] A question about playing games and my computer

2011-03-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lilia,

I don't think so. There are a number of fans inside your computer that
cool certain things. There is the fan for the CPU that keeps your
processor from burning up, general case fans to keep the case at a
steady tempature, and there are fans in the power supply to keep it
from getting too hot. So just because the fans in your computer get
louder doesn't mean your computer is burning up. All it means is that
your computer has gotten a little hotter inside and the fans are
working harder to cool the inside of your computer case. This is
pretty normal for CPU intensive applications.

Cheers!

[My Reply:]
Hi,

No, you should only worry when your computer starts beeping at
you or shuts itself down, depending on how your system has been
programmed to handle overheating. Some systems will beep at you to warn
you about it, but the better systems will drop your CPU speeds down in
an effort to slow things down for you. More specifically, today's
computers are designed to increase fan speeds first, in order to cool
things down. You should hear my system when it powers up. It first
sounds like a 747 is landing on my street, and then drops down so as to
be barely noticeable, but in the mornings when they system is running
the daily tasks, running a virus and rootkit check, generating system
reports, starting a new day's logs, etc., the fan might kick up a notch,
but nowhere near how it sounds when starting up. If it ever gets that
noisy, then I'll know my computer is doing everything it can to cool the
system down, and too many programs are running, and it's time to give
the computer less to do. HTH,

Michael

PS: Hopefully Thomas isn't still censoring every bit of my posts and
this reaches you, but if not, no big loss to me .shrugs.

When you hear a punch, doesn't that indicate that it has already hit the
mark, in which case you're too late to defend against it?

mainstream fighting games.

Well said, Christopher... and I hear what you are saying completely. I can
explain it in some detail, but I'll answer more questions next week when I
have a new game to show, so I can walk people through things as I explore
for the first time.

In fighting games on this generation of consoles, there are sounds for
everything. A punch sounds different than a kick, a block sounds different
from a successful hit. Dashing has sounds, and so does jumping. There are
sounds for when a character uses a special attack such as a projectile
versus a straight hit, and using the sound of the projectile's launch and
impact you can gage how far away from the screen you are or your opponent
is. Since fighting games are rarely about reloading weapons, you can put
that worry aside. The trick in a fighting game is to learn combos and
moves, but that requires no more effort than any sighted person. If you
seriously are interested in knowing more, feel free to write me offlist. I
would be glad to help in any way I can... I wanted to keep this
description short. But as I said, I'll do more showing with audio when I
get my hands on Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 next week.

At 02:54 PM 08/02/2011, you wrote:
Ok, I would like to understand something. I have heard that there is a
lot

of complexity in the fighting games, planning strategies and the like. I
accept that this is true.

Now, I have no vision. Strategy planning involves reacting not only to my
opponent, but to the environment, my current life level and weapon load
(where appropriate) my opponent's condition, and any time-based factors.
So, how, as I said with no vision, do I get this input in order to make
the

tactical decisions that make the games worth playing? Is there enough
information conveyed by sound to provide me with this state vector?

You see, this isn't a matter of being unwilling to put in effort, or
memorize a bunch of menu sequences. I figured out how to play Anacreon, a
complex space conquest game with a lot of things that defeat screen
readers
without a hell of a lot of effort, because the information was in fact
there
if one expended the effort. As Anacreon was a turn-based game, I could
take
the time to find it, incorporate it into my understanding of the game
state

and make the complex decisions about production, fleet deployment and even
battle tactics that the game required. The game rewarded me with exactly
the experience a sighted player would have, though I had to put literally
tens of hours in just to figure out the interface, let alone the game
strategy.

I'm unconvinced that I would ever get that level of feedback, even with
substantial effort from a mainstream game of any sort. Without that
feedback, I am at best operating at a severe disadvantage. Perhaps there
are patterns that could bring me victory, there are patterns in say, Tank
commander that lead to a successful conquest of the levels, but the fact
is

that I could learn those patterns by trial and error with full game
feedback, rather than simply trying something, learning it didn't work and
trying something else. I can diagnose *why* something didn't work.

So, if I am wrong about that, then I may be interested in exploring some
more mainstream gaming options. But frankly, it's a very high bar, and
one
I have no interest in compromising about. Life is too short to play a
game

at a disadvantage, no matter how wonderful the game might be. Or at least
that is my priority.
