Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS.

2013-09-22 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

trial and error is one way. See what works for your type of game play. There
is no one way to play this game.

I try to get the gold mined as quickly as possible while getting my
population up. when I can, I build minor defenses to protect myself.
Peasants fighting does not work.

Then start searching if you can. find the gold mines and get as much as you
can out of them as quickly as possible. Because the more you have the less
they do.

If your people get hurt heal them. easier to heal then to create new ones.

HTH.

If you can, catapult all the way. They'll give you warning, and
enemies don't come into they're squares often. I end up playing
jl1 and getting a couple catapults and bputting them at b2 untill
I rob all the mines, then just march up to b3 and slaughter.

Hi Lindsay,

I don't know what to tell you that I already haven't. The problem
here
is its a strategy game and certain elements are random enough
that you
sometimes have to devise a new strategy or plan every game.
However,
what I do to keep from being over run a lot of the times is try
and

get a few nights on my side before investing time and gold into
footmen, aarchers, or anything else.

That means you will have to A, gather raw materials, B, upgrade
your
town hall to a keep, build a stables, and then get at least two
or
three nights to defend your teritory while you a are working
towards a

bigger and better army.

If you are working with one of the smaller maps, where gold is
pretty
limited, you are better off just hiring say 12 footmen and four
or
five archers, and upgrade them. Your gold will go further and you
can
quickly put together an army that will stop all but a bunch of
nights.

Michael I'm afraid you've exactly proved my point here.

Thinking superliam and q9 are representative of 2D games would be like
believing a wheel barro is like a peter built freight carrier truck.

right now it is as if your saying well I've seen this wheel barrow, but i
think transporting goods by road is utterly pointless and cargo ships are
 the only way to go

Without looking over the 200 tonne fright carrying monster!

this is indeed one of the major contributions I see Mota making in audio
games, giving people an experience far closer to a true 2D game.

right now, while we're certainly a long way behind graphical indi games in
all areas, the 2D is stil miles behind 3D.

Also, this is not a diatribe against 3D games at all. as I've said before,
 i'd love to see a 3D game.

i just believe that there is a lot of potential for fun games in 2D that
people will not realize until a developer creates something closer to a
 true 2D game.

 Beware the grue!

 Dark.

Hi Lindsay,

What exactly has you confused. Perhaps if you have some specific
questions some of us SoundRTS players can give you pointers where to
go. SoundRTS has a bit of a learning curve, but if you try the
campaigns that might give you some direction here. What's nice about
the campaigns is they give you simple goals to complete that teach you
the basics in succession rather than hitting you with a full blown
game at once.

 Hi Lindsay

The first part is to get some peasants to mine the gold and the lumber
from nearby places. Make sure the farms can support the number of people
you have working. Then a barricks so you can get foot soldiers. At that
point it depends on how one plays the game. I typically skip archers and
 go
right to knights. I'm sure other players have their own methods.

Sound RTS is indeed still in beta. And there hasn't been an update for
something going on half a year. Not sure what happened. I hope the project
hasn't been abandoned. But in any case, the game's fairly stable as far as
beta's go, even the test version, and makes for a great play now and then.

I have a sound pack for sound RTS up on my site at:

http://www.bladestorm360.net

Its one of the better ones I know of, I have to say.

Kind of sad that we haven't seen a sound rts update in almost half a
year. I hope the project hasn't been abandoned.

There was some improved sound package for Sound RTS, is this correct?
If so, where can I find it?
Many thanks,

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS question

2009-01-14 Thread Lukás Hosnedl
Wow! What a long time, the changes are numerous and cool then. Not much more
to build or recruit, but other than that, everything you demanded. I think
there is no real limit now besides the size of the map and the amount of
resources, which depends on the map creator. And everything can be much
faster and much more fun to play, even on the net, cause these changes make
it possible for more players to connect to one game, of course. Just give it
a go, I promise you won't be disappointed. :-)

What changes has there been since I last played which was about a year

Are the maps bigger? Can you us more than 20 moving objects at any 1

Hi,
definitely the JL1 to JL3 maps, as they were the first multiplayer maps
created by the author himself, they are the simplest and smallest ones and
everyone had to grow up on them when the game was first launched. Only later
were those dozens of custom maps created.

Hi,
They don't have exactly a spy/scout character, but you can sort of
create one. i always send an expendable trooper like a footman or
archer in to enemy held territories to gage what they got. If the poor
guy gets attacked by an army of archers, footmen, or knights then I
know what to send into their territories when launching my invasion.
Its always helpful to employ a few expendable guys who act as scouting
parties.

The way to add peasants to a building project in progress is to go to

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS and Aggressive Mode

2008-05-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kelly,
In all of the multi-player maps the computer A.I. can be invited as a
passive or aggressive computer player. In passive mode the computer will
focus on expanding its territory and will use a defensive strategy
rather than an offensive strategy. It will take over unclaimed
territories, and defend them from you. In aggressive mode it will
continually attack you, try to take your terratroies through war, and be
aggressive about capturing territories. Aggressive means aggressive. Grin.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS and Aggressive Mode

2008-05-18 Thread Shadow Dragon
Most of the multiplayer maps are the authors initials followed by a number
for sepperation purposes. As for playing against the computer in agressive
mode, g oto single player, then start a game, not campaign. Then you start a
multiplayer map and invite as many computer opponents as you want up to the
limit the map can hold. It will say invite passive computer, or invite
agressive computer. Passive means it won't attack you directly, but it will
expand and try to get more resources, so if it finds your base while
searching for resources, it will attack you. AGressive is more like the
tutorials where the computer will send troops directly to your base.

Hi Kelly.
The main difference between aggressive and passive mode is in the computers
strategy. In passive mode, although the computer will attack you
eventually, its main focus is in expanding. In aggressive mode the computer
usually tries to destroy you as fast as possible.

there's a chapter called C.E. 1 Is that the author's name, or does
 it mean something?
Thanks.

Hi

Sorry if this is off topic, but I think it would be cool if you could do a
podcast on sound RTS. Not sure if someone has already done one, but it would
come in handy, to me at least, if that's at all possible.

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Subject: [Audyssey] SoundRTS Tutorial Chapter 3

 Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to beat Tutorial Chapter
3 of SoundRTS? I think I've tried just about everything but the enemy
always manages to destroy everything. I made a barracks at A1, put an
archer at C2 to patrol the bridge, and positioned my footmen at
different points, including one at A2, but still lose.
Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS Tutorial Chapter 3

2008-05-17 Thread Shadow Dragon
Its actually better to not split up your troops. For example. Get a barracks
up as quickly as possible, and set the rally point to b2. This way any enemy
that tries to move into your base will encounter your troops, there's no way
around besides through that path. Then fill up on units till you've used all
your food. This should work, if you lose any units make sure you have your
peasants constantly working so you can create more.

You have to recruit them from the barics.
Take control of the barics, and then pick the order to recruit a footman.

How does one invite aggressive computer opponents into a multi-player

OK. The aggressive computer is unlocked after the victory in the third
solo map. I may change this, though. This feature used to be fun for
some players, and useful because the beginner didn't need this option
too early, but now it seems less interesting.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS sound pack?

2007-09-05 Thread SoundMUD
Hi,

Sorry for this problem. The SoundRTS website is probably misleading,
so I will add a comment near the sound pack link.

With beta 8 you don't need to install the sound pack; you just have to
select it in the options menu. You will have the sound pack 3, though.

If I get the 44.1Khz wav files of sound pack 4, I will update the
included sound pack to sound pack 4. For some reason the current 16Khz
wav files directly converted to ogg are not played at the right speed.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS sound pack?

2007-09-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kary,
The sound pack was made for an older version of Sound RTS which used wav
files. Later/newer versions of Sound RTS use ogg files. If you want to
use the sound pack on the latest Sound RTS you should be able to use
Gold Wave or Sound Forge to convert them to ogg with no problem. Then,
just drop them in.

Cary wrote:
 Hi
I'm trying to get the hang of this sound rts thing, and I listened to Che's
tutorial, and his sounds are different than mine. So I went and downloaded
the soundpack from Ken Downey's site, but all the sounds are in wav format
and the sounds in the sounds folder are ogg. So what do I have to do? I
thought I had to replace the sounds folder and it would work, but it put the
wav files in with the ogg files so now they're all mixed together and so I
ended up just having to delete everything and start all over. So basically
I'm asking how to use the sound pack if the sounds are in wav and the
 originals are in ogg.
 Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS question: the timer

2007-08-21 Thread SoundMUD
Sorry, you can't disable the timer in beta 8. It should probably be
disabled by default for solo games where it is not really useful and
enabled by default for multiplayer games (or games against the
computer). And I probably should add a desactivation option to the
game menu, and to the options menu.

The timer is twice as fast on high game speed because the world is
twice as fast. This is useful because if you know that it takes 5
minutes to build a given number of soldiers, this will be true in low,
normal or high speed.

 Hiya,
This is, erm, an amusing and somewhat sad situation. I'm playing the
AI in passive mode on Map 1. He has decided that he enjoys getting
peasants slaughtered. I stationed a knight at C2 and he just kills them
before the peasants can do anything...
This has happened for so many peasants now that I lost count. Is it
 normal...?
 Thanks,

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS Latest Test: Wow, the AI loves slaughter!

2007-08-18 Thread Zachary Kline
Heh. The original reason for having the knight there was to dislodge a hord
of some seven peasants or so who had taken over the gold mine for their
use--either that or the wood. He did that easily, without getting
scratched. It was after when I noticed him killing a peasant roughly every
fifteen seconds or so.

Cheers,
Zack.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS Latest Test: Wow, the AI loves slaughter!

2007-08-18 Thread SoundMUD
Zack probably wanted to protect his peasants who were exploiting the
goldmine or the woods in c2.

The AI wanted to exploit the goldmine too (the other goldmines being
exhausted), and while the peasants are fleeing when they find the
knight, the computer finds these idle peasants and ask them to exploit
the goldmine. When the knight is near enough from the entrance of the
square, the peasants have no time to flee and die. On the other hand,
as soon as a combat takes place somewhere, the AI sends all its troops
to this square, so some enemy footmen probably arrived there after
some time.

Of course many things can be done to improve the AI. I will decide
soon in what order I will add which features (tutorial,
editor/language, improved multiplayer game, save game, replay game,
observer mode, improved AI, etc).

By the way, I'm almost sure the AI in its current form doesn't love or
enjoy anything, but I bet you are aware of it already.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS 1.0 beta 7

2007-07-21 Thread SoundMUD
The 1.0 beta 7 version is just a test version, not a stable version.
The default installation folder is different than the folder of the
1.0 beta 6 stable version, so the 2 versions can coexist in the same
computer.

Main new features:
- ability to start multi-player games without using the Internet
server list (for local network games for example)
- the food limit is 80 divided by the number of players (instead of 20
for each player)
- bug fix: better multi-player support for games with 3 or 4 players
(when one player quits the game, his units don't stay in the game
anymore)
- bug fix: the starting zones of the players in multi-player games are
random; the strategy of the computer AI in aggressive mode is random
- the computer AI in aggressive mode is slightly better.

I think the unit blindness thing is something like this: When you order
 an
unit to go somewhere, it calculates the shortest and straightest path.
 And
when something is blocking the way, it doesn't realize that it should go
elsewhere and just keeps on trying. This is what I think.

 Hi Jean-Luc
Lol are the units in SoundRts blind? I say this because I sometimes
 hear
units walking into walls. Also once when I had 7 footmen an archer and
 3
or 4 knights, I ordered footman 7 to go somewhere, but I just heard a
walking sound and he went nowhere. Then I sent him somewhere else and
heard him continuously bonking against the wall, still going nowhere.
Also I would like to see a feature to fire units. I had to let the
peasants commit suicide by walking into the enemy camp when I wanted a
 bigger army. Lol!

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS, question about online gaming!

2007-07-11 Thread Che
I have spoken with Jean-Luc a bit off list and he said he might see about
French players entering the tournament I am hosting, so I assume there would
be no problems between the two versions.
If I understand him correctly, the only difference between the versions
are the recorded voice sounds and the help files, this being the case
everyone is basically playing the same game.
If you see my server c h e online and want to play, send me a message off
list so we can schedule a game.
The computer is no fun anymore, completely easy to beat at all levels, so
humans are the only real competition left.

 Hi Bryan,
Quite right. I am hoping to reserve Angela for a more Toomb Raider style
clone. Montezuma's Revenge and Toomb Raider concepts just don't really
match, but they do have some things in common.

 Bryan Peterson wrote:
I'm not sure how that would work. As for both characters, maybe in an

And anyway, Thomas did say he still had plans to use Angela in another
 title.

Yeah, the ability to fire your own units or buildings could come in handy at
times.
I think the unit blindness thing is something like this: When you order an
unit to go somewhere, it calculates the shortest and straightest path. And
when something is blocking the way, it doesn't realize that it should go
elsewhere and just keeps on trying. This is what I think.

 Hi Jean-Luc
Lol are the units in SoundRts blind? I say this because I sometimes hear
units walking into walls. Also once when I had 7 footmen an archer and 3
or 4 knights, I ordered footman 7 to go somewhere, but I just heard a
walking sound and he went nowhere. Then I sent him somewhere else and
heard him continuously bonking against the wall, still going nowhere.
Also I would like to see a feature to fire units. I had to let the
peasants commit suicide by walking into the enemy camp when I wanted a
 bigger army. Lol!

That's a great way to get rid of peasants; also very good for scouting. I
just set my peasants to offensive and tell them to go to random squares on
the map; for example 'A1' or 'G7'.
Does anyone want to play online? I can't host (darn router) but I would love
a game. The computer is just too easy. Smile I one time managed to win the
game with 5 peasants; after the computer's first attack, it didn't build
more troupes and only had buildings.

Is there a way to save the game in SoundRTS? Someone asked this before
 but
I can't remember what the response was, or even if there was a
 response...
I think I'm starting to maybe like Sound RTS. I was never usually one
 for
strategy games, because they are so non-linear, what I mean is, you can
pretty much do whatever you want, obviously within the confines of the
 game,
where as linear games you do things in order, or you do things to achieve
 a
specific goal, etc, and in strategy games since they are so non-linear, I
lose my sense of direction and perspective really quickly. But I think
 I'm
gonna like SoundRTS. My question is, can I have say two peasants mining
gold, two peasants gathering wood, and two peasants building a building,
 all
at the same time? Or do you have to control one thing at a time? Also I
haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded far
 enough
in the game? So far I gathered wood, mined for gold, and built a
 barracks.
The keys are a bit confusing I kind of wish that the devs would have made
this menu-based with arrows and enter key and such. I can't remember
 which
key does what and I get confused easily but then I've only tried to play
 it
twice since I downloaded it, I'm sure it just takes practice.
Wow, sorry for the long-winded post.

 Sounds

Is there a way to save the game in SoundRTS? Someone asked this before
 but
I can't remember what the response was, or even if there was a
 response...
I think I'm starting to maybe like Sound RTS. I was never usually one
 for
strategy games, because they are so non-linear, what I mean is, you can
pretty much do whatever you want, obviously within the confines of the
 game,
where as linear games you do things in order, or you do things to
 achieve
 a
specific goal, etc, and in strategy games since they are so non-linear,
 I
lose my sense of direction and perspective really quickly. But I think
 I'm
gonna like SoundRTS. My question is, can I have say two peasants
 mining
gold, two peasants gathering wood, and two peasants building a
 building,
 all
at the same time? Or do you have to control one thing at a time? Also
 I
haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded far
 enough
in the game? So far I gathered wood, mined for gold, and built a
 barracks.
The keys are a bit confusing I kind of wish that the devs would have
 made
this menu-based with arrows and enter key and such. I can't remember
 which
key does what and I get confused easily but then I've only tried to
 play
 it
twice since I downloaded it, I'm sure it just takes practice.
Wow, sorry for the long-winded post.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS,

2007-07-04 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
as stated in an earlier post, you need to select it with the q key, then use
the 'a' key to tell it what to do, then tab to take the selected action.
Okay you'd select the dragon with the 'q' key. Then with 'a' select go
to. Using the tab key you might choose a path to the east, then hit enter
and your dragon should head east.

too much like the old Echo synthesizer on the Apple 2E (anybody on here
still remember those?) but the game itself does intrigue me so I probably
will actually try to learn it. Kinda makes me think of chess in a way.

 Subject: [Audyssey] SoundRTS, save game?

My question is, can I have say two peasants mining
gold, two peasants gathering wood, and two peasants building a building,
 all
at the same time? Or do you have to control one thing at a time? Also
 I
haven't seen any enemies yet, is that because I haven't proceeded far
 enough
in the game? So far I gathered wood, mined for gold, and built a
 barracks.
The keys are a bit confusing I kind of wish that the devs would have
 made
this menu-based with arrows and enter key and such. I can't remember
 which
key does what and I get confused easily but then I've only tried to play
 it
twice since I downloaded it, I'm sure it just takes practice.
Wow, sorry for the long-winded post.

Re: [Audyssey] SoundRTS,

2007-07-04 Thread Christopher Bartlett
Remember that there are unit-specific shortcut key pairs that go
across the keyboard:
e/d peasants/idle peasants
r/f footman/idlefootman
t/g archer/idle archer
y knight
u catapult
i dragon
o mage

I think there are idle counterparts for the unpaired keys as well,
but I've never used them. Remember also that adding ctrl to any of
these selects all units of that type, example: ctrl-e chooses all
peasants. s selects all military units (9other than peasants) in the
current square, and ctrl-s chooses all soldiers. Finally
ctrl-shift-s chooses all units for that last stand.

 Christopher Bartlett
At 09:10 AM 7/4/2007, you wrote:
as stated in an earlier post, you need to select it with the q key, then use
the 'a' key to tell it what to do, then tab to take the selected action.
Okay you'd select the dragon with the 'q' key. Then with 'a' select go
to. Using the tab key you might choose a path to the east, then hit enter
and your dragon should head east.

Re: [Audyssey] Soundrts: Help with first person?

2007-07-03 Thread Dark
Hi Zac.

I believe the first person mode refferred to in the manual is when you press
the tab key and tet a list of the various things around you, - but I'm
not sure. Sinse this is a beta version, I think the manual might be
incomplete in a few sections, - but obviously that's something which
will be fixed soon.

Beware the Grue!

 Hiya,
I've been playing around with Soundrts lately. It's really great, and I
love it, but I've had a slight bit of confusion.
Namely, how can I use first person mode? Is that a way to just use the
arrow keys for something else? Did I miss documentation somehow?
I hope I can trust my soldiers to attack the eemy without having to be
 told!
 Thanks,
 Zack.
