Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update released

2009-05-26 Thread diamond-optic

whats the new build date/number for linux? I updated mine and it still
shows the same as it did prior to updating it:

Protocol version 48
Exe version 1.1.2.6/Stdio (dod)
Exe build: 11:19:19 Sep 23 2008 (4352)

when i updated my win32 server, it did change (now says its from apr 13
2009) so im curious as to whether theres something wrong with my linux
server and its not updating or if its supposed to say that...

The beta has been updated. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive it with "-beta
hlds0319" on the command line.
The specific changes include:

Server changes:
- Fixed HLTV staying in players list even after disconnect
- Fixed server hang when a user connects with a specially crafted info string
- Cleaned up hlds_run script a little (Linux only)

There is also a client piece to this beta now, so if you run your Steam client
with "-beta hlds0319" on the command line you will get it. The client piece
fixes a couple exploits in the game engine.

He wouldn't need to tell how an exploit is done.
Also how can you beta test the client, other than general stability, if you

Finally, people who want to use exploits can do so anyway, there's even a

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update released

2009-04-15 Thread Alfred Reynolds
The beta has been updated. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive it with "-beta
hlds0319" on the command line.
The specific changes include:

Server changes:
- Fixed HLTV staying in players list even after disconnect
- Fixed server hang when a user connects with a specially crafted info string
- Cleaned up hlds_run script a little (Linux only)

There is also a client piece to this beta now, so if you run your Steam client
with "-beta hlds0319" on the command line you will get it. The client piece
fixes a couple exploits in the game engine.

Seems Valve is 0 for 4 when it comes to the updates. L4D, TF2 and DOD:S was
messed up and now I am reading that HL1 is also messed up since the update.

WTH is going on at Valve. Valve please fix...

This client can drop all clients from server only by connecting to it.
We've tested it on some other steam servers... the same results. All
clients drop from server.
Buggy client is a normal steam user, not a hacker or using exploits.

I've tried to workaround this with config:
sv_timeout 25
sv_send_logos 0
sv_allowdownload 0
sv_allowupload 0
sv_send_resources 0
hpk_maxsize 0.1
decalfrequency 0

but this doesn't help.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update released

2009-03-22 Thread Максим Шпаков
Thanks for update.
My clients have a lot more of "svc_bad/Error: server failed to
transmit file AY&SY" and "Reliable channel overflow." drops with this
update.
I haven't changed anything on server except beta update.
It even happens with pure AMX Mod X 1.8.1 and metamod-p 1.19p32
Can this issue be fixed with release of the update?

This is bad, a lot of plug-ins use quotes for the steamid since the engine
treats the ":" as a command separator along with the ";"

Following might not be a bug, but it breaks old plugins (they have to be
rewritten and recompiled to work correctly):

The banid and removeid commands don't take quotation marks since the October
update, this is still the case in the beta.

Example 1 (banid):

listid
UserID filter list: empty

banid "0" "STEAM_0:0:815"

listid
UserID filter list: 1 entries
1 STEAM_ID_PENDING : permanent

Example 2 (removeid):

banid 0 STEAM_0:0:815

listid
UserID filter list: 2 entries
1 STEAM_ID_PENDING : permanent
2 STEAM_0:0:815 : permanent

removeid "STEAM_0:0:815"
removeid: couldn't find STEAM_0:0:815::

removeid STEAM_0:0:815
UserID filter removed for STEAM_0:0:815

[hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-24 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update to the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update:
- enables the sv_visiblemaxplayers cvar again
- fixes the setmaster command so it can be used again
- lowers cpu usage

Issues that are still being worked on
- FreeBSD startup issues (that pipes assert)
- Demo record in hltv

and the constant optimisations to further help CPU usage (yes, I am
looking at you Linux!).

CSDM needs to be patched.

https://forums.alliedmods.net/showpost.php?p=704122&postcount=11 For the
binary I'm using which is patched.

The version of the binary I posted there is working for my needs (Linux,
no FFA), but I patched it against vanilla CSDM, not the unofficially
modified version floating around.

Unfortunately I don't have a Windows build environment setup to build or
test the proposed patch for Windows CSDM, but in theory it should work.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-24 Thread Hans Vos
Hello,

Any word yet on the crashing of CSDM servers? We have no problems with
our servers except for the CSDM servers. They keep crashing every couple
minutes. This is getting really frustrating. I have the following
abnormalities in my console log.

L 10/25/2008 - 01:02:53: [CSDM2] dev: called: GiveFnptrsToDll
L 10/25/2008 - 01:02:53: [META] ERROR: Failed to find memloc for regcmd
'csdm'
L 10/25/2008 - 01:02:53: [META] dll: Loaded plugin 'CSDM2': CSDM2 v2.1.1
Nov 8 2007, CSDM Team
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient.
Continuing with current version anyway.
registry.cpp (216) : Assertion Failed: !"Implement me"

Most recent version of AMX Mod X and CSDM are running.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-24 Thread Never
I think that the solution is going back to p47 xD...
p48 is not very useful... its just some unuseful bugfix for stupid bugs
that doesnt bother anyone...

Also i think it was a violent update... clients didnt have the
oportunity to choose if stay in old version or update...
Now, updated servers are not the 100%...
I didnt updated my server yet cause my hosting provider thinks it's
unstable and they dont want to update...

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-23 Thread Brandon R. Miller
I was referring to control panel software such as tcadmin who needed to update
their query protocol. Because when the software (tcadmin) can't query the
server it automatically restarts the game server (which would look like the
server is crashing).

We had this problem and disabled the queries but an update has already been
released that can properly query HL1 servers again.

Several, which are all on the todo list to update. However if its an
out dated server query that's causing the servers to crash it would need
to be fixed asap before the script kiddies/griefers figured out that's
  what causes it.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-23 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update to the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update fixes the "Assert( IsIdxValid(i) )" and then crash error
when running a server and fixes a crash on startup under linux if you
had virtual interfaces.

Known bugs that are still being worked on are the setmaster call
stopping server listing and sv_visiblemaxplayers no longer being used.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-23 Thread Hans Vos
Hello,

Anybody else experiencing mass disconnects from players? We have a
couple of very popular servers running. Just now about 16 of the 22
people are suddenly disconnected from the server. This keeps happening
every couple of minutes. Our players are getting really annoyed with
this. The server does not crash, only players get disconnected.

There is no information in de console. They simply disappear .

Thats odd..

After yesterdays update 'exec server.cfg' in the autoexec.cfg causes me to
crash right at the start of the server load. Dunno why it crashes me and not
you... anyways...

try adding to server.cfg:

// configuration file for dedicated servers
mapchangecfgfile "server.cfg"

Even with 'exec server.cfg' in autoexec.cfg on a mod-free server, it isn't
picking up server.cfg

Just out of curiosity do you have sometype of monitoring software installed? If
so it probably needs to be updated to prevent it from restarting your game
server because of the query change.

Still getting crashes here after about 10mins on all our servers.

No mods, liblist.gam is set to default settings.

"bannedcfg banned.cfg" is in server.cfg and the file exists. I've
  removed "exec banned.cfg" as well.

After about 10mins the server will restart, no dump file and nothing in
the log file (It just cuts off halfway through an entry).

Short of trying a completely new clean install for all servers I'm out
  of ideas :-/

I don't see why adding additional master servers would break queries either,
but it does. Remove any setmaster commands until they fix it.

I don't add additional master servers. I don't see why it should break the
server query, because this problem is not related to the master server list.

setmaster shows:

Whoops! :P

Removing it from our configs now and will let you know if they stop
crashing.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Ronny Schedel

I don't add additional master servers. I don't see why it should break the
server query, because this problem is not related to the master server list.

setmaster shows:

Current:
  0: 72.165.61.189:27010
  1: 68.142.72.250:27010

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update for the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update fixes crashes on startup if you had a banned.cfg and the
sv_password state not being displayed properly in the serverbrowser.

There is a known bug with servers not listing if you use the setmaster
command, so remove any setmaster calls until we can release a fix for
the issue.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Ronny Schedel
I don't get any response at all now. I try to get the A2S_INFO like
described in the wiki, but I don't receive any packet. I raised the
max_queries cvars, but without luck. Hopefully this is because of the update
and many players hammer my updated server. The same script is working fine
with CSS, DODS and TF2 servers.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Matt Lyons
I've had all our servers crash before 1st map change after this update.

However I set up a completely vanilla install and it hasn't crashed yet.
(Going on about 40mins now with players in it).

So its a metamod/amxmod issue by the look of it. Trying a brand new
setup of those mods to try and duplicate the issue now.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Robert Whelan
My bad...

By vanilla I meant addons/plugins etc... I saw alfred comment in another post
about server/autoexec.cfgs being included as custom. I removed them and my
testbox started up fine.

The cilprit -> autoexec.cfg for tfc

// loads the server.cfg at map changes
// fix for steam issue
exec server.cfg

This was a bandaid I had in there from years ago

Subject: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

A new set of Steamworks features have been released for all Half-Life 1 engine
multiplayer games: Counter-Strike 1.6, Condition Zero, Team Fortress Classic,
Deathmatch Classic, Ricochet, Day of Defeat and Half-life 1 Deathmatch. The
update includes Steamworks features such as player avatars in the scoreboard
when playing Counter-Strike and Condition Zero. The update also contains
several bug fixes, listed below. This update will require all game servers to
restart.

Bug Fixes:
- Removed the need to manually re-login and re-authenticate to Steam while in
game
- Fixed a crash on startup when running windowed with a non-standard desktop
resolution
- Removed the display of saytext (in-game chat text) from players whom you've
blocked in Steam friends
- Locked down several engine cvars to prevent malicious script exploits
- Enforced file consistency on several sprites in Counter-Strike
- Removed "ex_extrapmax" cvar (no longer needed)

Server:
- Added "-noaff" command-line option to disable setting of thread affinity
- Added "bannedcfg" cvar so admins can choose which file is written to by the
"writeid" command

This is a required update for all HL1 games.

Did you changed something related to the server query? I get no response

2008-10-22 Thread Alfred Reynolds
I can only fix problems that you report to me, as I don't see an email
from you about this I suspect that you won't. If you have a problem
after trying a vanilla install (i.e no addons or custom
server.cfg/autoexec.cfg) then drop me an email, or if you find a problem
like this do the same.

Re: [hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread [Me109] Private Dyin

It was just the liblist.gam getting over written. Everything loads now.
Problem now is anyone joining my servers eventually crashes. Nobody can play.
When I try to enter my game freezes with looping sounds and I get disconnected.

for 3rd party apps like that you will have to wait for there coders to

[hlds] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-22 Thread Jason Ruymen
