2009-09-04 Thread பத்மநாதன்
Dear LUGs,
   recently TNEB supplied CUG simcards to all
Engineers. I have an mobile phone list which contain 200 numbers. I
tried to make the entry in my simcard using wammu through Motorola
SLVR L9 ( OS is ubuntu 8.10). After single number entry, It shows
squire boxes in name & numbers in mobile. and also wammu shows
Japanese ( or china) language or symbols in name column when
retrieval.
  I tired it the same in kmobiletools ( Mandriva
2009), but I couldn't make an entry phone.
 I need the solution to solve it.

   Any other way to feed numbers to my mobile? I hvae
n list in the form of openoffice spread sheet. any script to do it ?

for your info, kmobiletools uses kaddressbook.

I don't remember very well, but mysql should have its own log file.
Try to see if there are any error codes in that file. look that up in
the mysql site. guess that would help faster.

I remember seeing this problem when i was using mysql. all i did was
paste the error as it is in the search bar. apparently, google still
has some links on this. sure you tried most of them?

I am not very sure about this, however if this issue is occuring after a

I don't think you can disable sound on your "host" OS (running
natively on the computer hardware) and expect to get sound out of the
guest OS in VirtualBox.

Re: [Ilugc] Help Needed

2010-04-17 Thread Kishore Reddy
What I understand from VirtualBox is, it uses the host operating system to
run the guest operating system. No sound in host => no sound in guest.

For example: Internet/LAN usage in guest OS. If you see the LAN ip address
of the guest, and if you see the actual ip of the packets(genrated from your
guest OS) that are going out of your system, it contains the ip that your
host OS has obtained. There is NAT running in the background to translate
the ip addresses. I hope you understand.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

[Ilugc] Help needed in Ruby

2010-08-24 Thread Ranjith
Hi all,
 I have script which is used to read the apache server log file and
returns the set values. Here is the script,

require 'rubygems'
require 'apachelogregex'
require 'set'
require 'pp'

urls = Set.new
format = '%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}\"'
  parser = ApacheLogRegex.new(format)
  File.readlines('aleurier_access.log').collect do |line|
  @line = parser.parse(line)
   urls.add(@line["%h"])
  # {"%r"=>"GET /blog/index.xml HTTP/1.1", "%h"=>"87.18.183.252", ... }
end
puts urls
pp @line

For eg, when I run this script it prints all host ID, what i like to do is
how to print repeated IP addresses only once and also prints the other IP
addresses which is not repeated again.
I tried uniq but it supports only array elements not reads through files. I
also tried this one it can used for small file but it doesn`t suits for
larger files.

require 'rubygems'
require 'apachelogregex'
require 'set'
require 'pp'

urls = Set.new
format = '%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}\"'
  parser = ApacheLogRegex.new(format)

   urls.add(l["%h"])
  # {"%r"=>"GET /blog/index.xml HTTP/1.1", "%h"=>"87.18.183.252", ... }

What i like to do is
How to print individual set values?
for eg,
If I want to print the %h (remote host id) set values alone?
I want to sort %h set values?
Repeated host id to printed only once and also other unique host ids
values and store %h values in a database?

I recently installed ubuntu 9.04 and reformatted my hard drive. I had taken a

I am currently not using the partitions to ensure that existing blocks are not
overwritten and am using OS on another partition.

reliable data recovery firm in Hyd and what are the usual charges?

Hi  Ranjith,

 I have been in another commitment, So I am not able to replay immediately .
Sorry for delay.

I remember that some one in the OpenCV community said some time back they
have done similar to you. I think your project is almost same with them. But
they recognize face using OpenCV technique and they have developed it using
java. But he said that the performance is not so good. They want to develop
it using neural network technique.

My suggestion is you can go ahead with Linux/C++/Parallel processing,
release it open source with good performance. Since multi-core systems are
spreading fast, the problem of parallel programming becomes more and more
urgent. Parallel processing has always been an interesting method to improve
program performance.

I suggest you to use OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) for Parallel
processing. In OpenCV code supports OpenMP. OpenMP(For more info :
http://openmp.org/wp/) is multithreading C and C++ application program
interface lets you write applications that effectively use multiple
processors.

This one another link looks like your requirement . Take a look at this
implementation :
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/pyvision/index.php?title=FaceL:_Facile_Face_Labeler

I hope It will help you.

2010-08-24 Thread sasi
Hi,
 U can do like,

irb(main):001:0> a=File.open("a","r")
=> #

irb(main):002:0> arr=a.readlines
=> ["1\n", "2\n", "3\n", "4\n", "45\n", "1\n", "23\n", "4\n", "56\n", "3\n",
"12\n", "45\n", "6\n", "34\n"]
read the lines from file and assign into an array.

irb(main):003:0> arr.length
=> 14

irb(main):004:0> arr.uniq
=> ["1\n", "2\n", "3\n", "4\n", "45\n", "23\n", "56\n", "12\n", "6\n",
"34\n"]

irb(main):005:0> arr.uniq.length
=> 10

Using the array only we can unique the values.

[Ilugc] help needed for software profilier,

2010-08-26 Thread Suresh Kumar Subramanian
Hi,

I am doing project in C/Linux. I am interested to increase the performance and
optimize my project..

1) Memory debugging ( To identify the memory leak , unused or
unintialized variables etc)

2)  Profiling

3)  Static code analysis

4)  Dynamic code analysis

Can you please suggest some open source tools to perform the above. I just
surfed and identified the below.
But not sure whether this is the best fit for C/Linux coding. Please suggest
the some other opensource tools.

Memory debugging tool  &  Profiling:
http://valgrind.org/
TAU  Performance : http://www.cs.uoregon.edu/research/tau/home.php
I prefer valgrind as it is simple and inbuilt with linux.

Static code -analysis :

I don't know if I understood your requirement/query correctly.
Assuming that you want to parse access_log file such that for every
host entry in the access_log, you want to group corresponding fields
together as a set of records, the code could be something like
below:

# --8<-8<---
require 'rubygems'
require 'apachelogregex'
require 'pp'

format = '%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"'
parser = ApacheLogRegex.new(format)
access_log = Hash.new
# Creating a hash of an array of hashes!
# Can be simplified based on your actual requirement.

File.readlines('aleurier_access.log').collect do |line|
  record = parser.parse(line)
  # The code below does the actual job. Can be a one-liner
  # if you know ternary operators or maybe if expression.
  if access_log.key? record["%h"]
 access_log[record["%h"]] << record
  else
 access_log[record["%h"]] = Array.new
  end
end

# Now let's test some!
puts access_log.keys
while true
print "Enter ip address: "
ipaddr = gets.chomp
puts "-" * 40
pp access_log[ipaddr]
puts "-" * 40
end
# --8<-8<---

Is this what you wanted ?

yes exactly this is what I want to do.

I tried this way it runs fine

require 'rubygems'
require 'apachelogregex'
require 'set'
require 'pp'

urls = Set.new
format = '%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}\"'
  parser = ApacheLogRegex.new(format)
  File.readlines('aleurier_access.log').collect do |line|
  l = parser.parse(line)
   urls.add(l["%r"])
  # {"%r"=>"GET /blog/index.xml HTTP/1.1", "%h"=>"87.18.183.252", ... }
end
puts urls.to_a.sort
pp l

but I still get an error.
undefined local variable or method `l' for main:Object (NameError)
 I tried using @l but no use

What is a VSP? or did you mean VPS?

Item 15 in the list guidelines refers an URL on how to ask for help
.

Without detailed errors, even the fedena developers will be clueless
vis-a-vis your problem. At a min. you must mention your distro,
version, cpu arch, installing from repo pkg or latest tar ball etc. +
the error messages you get on the console and/or in the relevant log
files.

> can anyone please help me. any guides or
> tutorials or if someone already have worked on is please let me know

You don't mention what docs you have referred to so far.

search key words "fedena install guide" lists the fedena install guide
in the first hit!

Have you read it and met the system pre-requisite *before* attempting
to install fedena?

Maybe this fedena appliance will help you get going

Doesn't dokuwiki just consist of flat files? It should just involve
copying the data folder, whatever the correct name is, to the new
wiki. And then whatever else you want to copy over, everything should
be in the respective files.

Re: [Ilugc] Help needed with Linux in school

2008-05-11 Thread Thiagarajan

Well,
I am also a teacher , handling CS for Higher Secondary,

Since Govt schools got SuSE linux, you have to introduce to the students
about SuSE
For the students , it is learning for the First Time, where us, we
have started from DOS, Unix then GUI at Win 3.1 Win 98,WinXp ,

So it is easy for the students to learn Linux as first timer.

Then , Our learning system makes us to teach "Based on Book Content" [
The actual teaching should not based on book content ]

So, here are my suggestions.

# For C and C++, use "gcc" compiler, along with editors [ just Google ,
you will get better understanding.]
[ if you have any trouble, i will send you a simple presentation file,
where you can catch it ]

# For Star Office, use OpenOffice.
# For Electroni Work Bench, use "Logisim" [ search , download, install ]
# For HTML, use simple Editors
# For Windows XP , ...nothing to learn.

have a nice day

Hi,

It was also proposed that there will be training to the staffs by
ELCOT and it appeared that they outsourced it to some one.

What's the Status?

Being may, Its likely that all schools around will be having Holidays.
Will it be possible for you to convene a meeting of all Staffs in and

Hope everyone will be facing similar issues. That will make it even easier.

Would be grateful, if anyone in Vilupuram area will visit our school and
help us start using the computers.

Re: [Ilugc] Help needed with Linux in school

2008-05-11 Thread Thiagarajan Natarajan
Well,
I am also a teacher , handling CS for Higher Secondary,

Since Govt schools got SuSE linux, you have to introduce to the students
about SuSE
For the students , it is learning for the First Time, whereas, we have
started from DOS, Unix then GUI at Win 3.1 Win 98,WinXp, Vista etc... ,
leads to comparison than learning. Eventually , it is easy for the students
to learn Linux as first timer.

Then , Our learning system makes us to teach "As it is in the Book" [ The
actual teaching should not be "as is" ]

So, here are my suggestions.

# For C and C++, use "gcc" compiler, along with editors [ just Google , you
will get better understanding.]
[ if you have any trouble, i will send you a simple presentation to give
basic idea ]
# For Star Office, use OpenOffice.
# For Electroni Work Bench, use "Logisim" [ search , download, install ]
# For HTML, use simple Editors
# For Windows XP , ...leave it to the students, they will understand.

have a nice day

2008-05-11 Thread சிவகுமார் மா
Friends,

The mail was typed in by me when I was in Vilupuram on May 12, 2008 to
participate in a Valaipadhivar Pattarai.

We helped the participants to create Email accounts, blogger accounts and
learn to read and write in Tamil. Towards the end of the day, I started
talking about Tamil operating systems and brought up Linux.

Atleast half a dozen persons immediately started showing interest. Mr.
Senthil is one of them.

Schools have received computers, no one to teach them how to use. They want
to install Windows if possible. The department says, you do whatever you
want, we will not question. But the teachers are not taking any risks. In
many places computers are kept unused.

I am sure similar conditions prevail in other parts of the state also. I
suggested to Mr. Senthil to send a mail to ILUGC and typed the gp message
from his email account (newly created).

Mr. Senthil promised that he will arrange a meeting of teachers from all the
schools in the area for a training session. I have suggested that we can
solve their problems in one or two sittings and get the computers working in
the schools.

I am not sure, whether he is conversant with emails and mailing list
communications. We need to do something before the new school year begins.

Best regards,

Ma Sivakumar

I have checked with Ms. Nirmala, HoD /CSE of IFET, Villupuram. She is
willing to help out, but is busy with some official work for next 2-3 days.
I have also requested her to consider organizing a 2-3 day FOSS workshop for
school teachers in that area in her college. We should be able to convince
the management too.

If I could get the Villupuram school contact numbers / names, I could put
them on to Ms. Nirmala to initiate direct interaction.

Any other suggestions for NRCFOSS/ILUG-C joint actions are also welcome.

in the meantime, we can take up Bharathi's suggestion. We could organize a

we are also planning some training programme (towards last week of May) at

As immediate activity, he is eager to put the computers in their school (Sri

Viluppuram this weekend. Teachers from other nearby schools may also come
for training.

[Ilugc] Help needed to install KDE in Fedora 14

2010-12-11 Thread Sivaraj Nagasayanam
Hi,
I need help in installing KDE in Fedora 14.

As I had problems with GUI in Fedora 12 & 13, I tried Fedora 14 with default
installation. It works all right in Gnome.

I tried installing a few KDE programs using Add/Remove programs, although there
were problems initially to make DVD drive accessible. Later I used install DVD
(from LFY current issue) itself  to install some more programs.

However, I am unable to get KDE desktop. The Add/remove program keep on asking
for QT(86-32) file which I am unable to locate.

Thinking that there could be some problem with the DVD, I tried full
installation in a spare HDD and found that both Gnome and KDE were functional.

Thanks in advance for help from fellow members.

HCL sells thin clients - both via and intel atom under brand winbee. It comes
with linux loaded on CF disk, which is very minimal. However simple pxe booting
will work well with ltsp. I am using 18 of them for the past 3 months without
any problem, on debian.

However, I suggest you buy a cpu box without hdd,cd rom etc, they will be
cheaper and also avoids vendor-lock-in for hardware service.

[Ilugc] Help needed in configuring Apache with SSL 123 cert from Thawte

2012-02-16 Thread K.C. Ramakrishna
Hi all,

This is my first time ever that I am configuring a cert. I have read various
tutorials but am unable to figure out which variables are associated to which
files.

Some contextual explanation of each file will also help.

I have these files from Thawte. Which variables should I associate them to in
ssl.com?

/etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf

my_domain_com_apache.crt

my_domain_com_i2.crt

my_domain_ee.crt

my_domain_i1.crt

SSL123_CA_Bundle.pem

I of course have a my_domain.key which I generated using openssl command - 2048
bit encryption.
A sample ssl.conf and httpd.conf with Virtualhost contents will be very
appreciated.

Thanks,

kc

There is no locking.

Only blocking access to read the folder/file.

chmod u-r foo

will block folder foo from access to user under which this command is run.

If you want to block access to file/folder to everyone other than the user
who created the folder, you can do this.

$ chmod go-rwx foo

Read up on chmod. If you want advanced features then chattr.

If you want to learn about locking you can read flock and lockf but it
has nothing to
do with your question.
