Re: [ilugd] Is having too many Linux distros a problem?

2013-05-20 Thread Raakesh kumar
IMO, It's very good to have many distros as each one was made because they
were needed and they have some advantages. As a user you can choose any one
of them and fulfill your purpose. It also shows the kind of freedom this
open source thing gives to it's users where you can develop something out
of something if you don't like it, and encourages others also for the same.
There are some minor disadvantages also that as a naive user you can't find
easily which distro can fulfill your purpose or which one should you start
with etc. But for this there are millions of blogs/posts out there where
you can read about your problems and solutions.

 1. You should use Oauth2. Facebook exclusively uses that, and
 Google has deprecated Oauth 1.0
 2. There are several options. Perhaps the easiest is the django-social-auth

Devise usually redirects to the where the root is pointed in the routes.rb
file. So if by default what you want a person to go two after loging in is
to the admin then you can set the

 :root = controller#action

Ok.. so can i generate RailsAdmin controller so point to that? If yes then
how.
Basically what i want is, when a normal user logs in, it redirect them to
different controller#action and when superuser logs in, it should
redirect them to /admin page. But currently it is redirecting both of them

Yes.. I should have saved something for future analysis.
Actually i ran the command sudo nautilus and then i went to /etc directory

Then when i faced the problem in running my apache server and database

Would rephrase as get into rescue mode, and (re)mount / with rw

Do machines install with rescue by default? I'd have thought you need

Booting into root is faster if you know what you're doing. If you

[ilugd] Subdomain creation in PHP application

2012-06-02 Thread Raakesh kumar
Dear All,
I am stuck to a problem and that is, i am working on a project which
requires user registration like any other website/social networks have and
then after user registration they want a separate subdomain like
http://userName.theirWebsite.com

Now i don't understand how is it possible to create a sub domain using Php
only... Do i need any other program or anything to do this?? My other
question is, even if i get anything to do this won't it be a security
threat if any person gets the server credentials, as i will create a sub
domain for him/her??

As i guess it's not a good idea.. so is there any method using .htaccess or
anyhow to fulfill this requirement??
Need suggestions

With the appropriate configuration, you can add add rewrite rules in
 .htaccess AFAIR.

Does it require any extra configurations other than
mod_rewrite/RewriteRule??

I could be wrong, but from your mail I get the impression that you don't
have a good handle on either the problem or the possible solutions.
Suggest reading a lot and chatting with experienced people.

 [/...]
Maybe i have not a hands on experience on these tools.. and that's why i
asked how to do it dynamically? i have to do this using any server side
scripting language(in theory) and as i have php so it would be best if
you/anyone can suggest me some php tool.. As i know, i can create a sub
domain using php and cPanel API only but that will really create a sub
domain which will create a security threat. I want the same functionality
as wordpress.com provides like when you create a blogging account with user
id 'xxx', it gives you a url named as xxx.wordpress.com

At this point after reading your comments i suppose i will have to do this
using htaccess only. But if you have some better suggestions please do post
that..

If you agree with that, what exactly are you complaining about?

BTW, I'm not forcing or stopping you and, or anyone. *I just expressed

What is that supposed to mean: ...but you did not bother to read and,

Now, I am descending into my personal-peeve territory, but from your

With due respect to all, can you please stop increasing this thread? There
is nothing like posting an opinion like this, when it is legitimate to post
something like this. Here at this point i am not raising any question to
anyone but the thing is if you will create this kind of situation on just a

posting anything to this community?
And this way you are forcing other people to jump into this unnecessary
