Re: [JAWS-Users] opening pdf files on IE webpage
Hello Vicki, If you go into Adobe Reader without a document open and open the accessibility set up assistant under the edit menu, there is an option that allows for customizing accessibility for screen readers. One of the options on step 4 of 4 of this multi-page screen is display documents in the web browser. If you uncheck this box and then tab to and press enter on the done button, any document opened will only display in Adobe reader where it can be viewed if accessible or saved. I hope that helps On 7/18/16, Vickiwrote: > Is there a way to stop a pdf file from opening on the webpage, but rather > downloading instead? > > I am using Jaws 14 and 17 with IE 11 and the latest version of Adobe. > > I have tried entering on the links, using the spacebar, right clicking, > using Jaws key and also the context menu, but they all open rather than save > the file. Hello another way is to find your PDF in the Links List, Insert F7. Then tab to the button called "Move to link" and press it. Then press Context Key and see if there's an item called Save Target As in the list of options. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
Hi Wayne, Are you working on this document on a desktop or laptop? Does this behavior happen in other places besides word? If this document is being composed on a desktop computer and a mouse is connected, I would try removing the mouse temporarily to see if this behavior subsides or place it in a position where it will not be touched. If this document is being composed on a laptop one item which comes to mind is that perhaps you are inadvertently touching the touch pad? This is usally down near the bottom of the keyboard and will cause the position of the cursor to move. Most laptops have an option that allows for the touch pad to be disabled. I hope this helps On 7/20/16, wayne smithwrote: > I need some of you big brains! I have an MS Word 2007 doc that is about > 250 > pages long. [JAWS-Users] ListTbl Script & Users Guide, From TopTechTidbits
3) Doug Lee has written clever JAWS scripts to use standard table navigation keystrokes in list view controls: http://www.dlee.org/listtbl/ ListTbl Users Guide Doug Lee Last Revised January, 2014 This short document explains how to use the ListTbl scripts for navigating ListView controls with JAWS in any application. This document is laid out for easy navigation using JAWS HTML heading navigation commands: H will move through all headings, 2 through major sections, and 3 and 4through any subsections or subsubsections. Table of Contents list of 5 items . What Is ListTbl? . Script Installation Instructions . Commands and Features . Usage Examples . History and Notes From the Author list end What Is ListTbl? These scripts make standard HTML table navigation commands (Ctrl+Alt with arrows, Home, End, etc.) apply to ListView controls, such as can be found in Windows Explorer. This facilitates scanning down columns other than column 1 without having to type numerous or difficult key sequences. There are also a few added commands for clicking cells and column headers without having to use the JAWS cursor. In JAWS 13 and later, the Table Layer commands also work on supported controls. Script Installation Instructions To install these scripts on a new system: list of 3 items 1. Install JAWS if this has not already been done. This will require administrative privileges on the PC. 2. Run JAWS as the user for whom the scripts are to be installed. This and the following steps must be performed for each user of the PC who will be using JAWS with these scripts. 3. Run the script installer and follow its instructions. By default, this installer will install the scripts into all available JAWS versions and languages on the computer. You may unselect specific version/language combinations during installation if necessary. list end Commands and Features The primary feature of these scripts is to make the standard JAWS table navigation commands work in ListView controls. This works in all supported JAWS keyboard layouts and uses the same keystrokes in each as appear in HTML environments. In JAWS 13 and later, the Table Layer commands also work on supported controls. In addition to the standard table navigation commands though, these scripts add a few commands for left-clicking and right-clicking "cells" and column headers in ListViews. These added commands work only in ListView controls and do not carry over to HTML environments. The following table lists the available functions with the commands for each supported keyboard layout: Summary: Added ListView Support Commands table with 6 columns and 5 rows Function Common/Desktop Layout Laptop and Classic Laptop Layouts Kinesis Layout Table Layer Description Left-click cell Ctrl+Alt+NumPad / Ctrl+Alt+8 Ctrl+Alt+I NumPad / Left-clicks the current cell in the ListView. Right-click cell Ctrl+Alt+NumPad * Ctrl+Alt+9 Ctrl+Alt+O NumPad * Right-clicks the current cell in the ListView. Left-click header Ctrl+Shift+Alt+NumPad / Ctrl+Shift+Alt+8 Ctrl+Shift+Alt+I Shift+NumPad / Left-clicks the column header above the current cell in the ListView. Right-click cell Ctrl+Shift+Alt+NumPad * Ctrl+Shift+Alt+9 Ctrl+Shift+Alt+O Shift+NumPad * Right-clicks the column header above the current cell in the ListView. table end Note: Though standard JAWS Table Layer commands do not exit the Table Layer, the above Table Layer commands will do so. This is because clicking cells and headers usually causes new or reorganized screens to appear, whereas the standard JAWS Table Layer commands simply navigate among cells. As a side effect, it will be necessary to use commands outside of the Table Layer in order to double-click cells. Usage Examples In the following examples, the Common/Desktop layout is assumed. For other layouts or the Table Layer, substitute appropriate keystrokes as necessary. Summary: ListTbl usage examples table with 2 columns and 5 rows Task Action(s) Read each cell in the current ListView row with its header. Use Ctrl+Alt+Right to move one cell at a time to the right across the row, Ctrl+Alt+Left to move left, and Ctrl+Alt+NumPad 5 to announce the current cell with header and position information.. The normal JAWS ListView commands for reading cells (JAWSKey+Ctrl+1-9/0) also work here but do not provide a means for examining more than the first ten columns of a wide list. Find the largest file in a Windows Explorer file list Either use Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right to move to the Size column and then scan through sizes manually with Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down, or list of 3 items . Find the Size column using Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right. . Left-click the Size column header twice with Ctrl+Shift+Alt+NumPad /, once to sort the list by ascending size, and once to reverse the sort and place the largest file at the top of the list. . Use any desired means to move to the top row, a good one being Ctrl+Alt+Home to move to column 1 of the top row. list end Find out
Re: [JAWS-Users] Address Book VS. Contacts List In Outlook 2016?
Mike: This is good to know. For whatever reason, I have always found the address book, accessed via control shift B., to be easier to navigate and work with than the contacts list, accessed by control 3. I've found this even in earlier versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010. Not sure why this is the case, but hopefully, it's just a matter of personal preference and what works best for a given individual. I'd be interested in the thoughts of others. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
I don't know the cause, but I know one cause for this behavior. I've seen it many times. It happens on laptops when the touchpad has not been disabled. It's very easy to brush against the touchpad with the palm of your hand when typing. That makes the cursor jump around. The user has no idea this is happening. Let me be clear, I don't think this is the only cause of this behavior, but it is definitely one cause. I've seen it more times than I can count. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kimber Gardner Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2016 9:39 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own And if you talk to FS, they will swear they have never in their lives seen that behavior. The default is supposed to be 100, but you can change that. Also, check out these instructions on how to disable compacting in OE: 1. Do the Run command. 2. In the new window, type regedit and press OK 3. The registry editor opens You need to make sure that you've scrolled to the top of this list and left clicked once on My Computer so it is highlighted. Now click Edit and choose Find. 4. Type Compact Check Count and click Find Next. The compact check count will increase by 1 every time you close Outlook Express, by default, when it gets to 100 it will ask you to compact. 5. The number within the registry is based upon hexadecimal, and 100 in hexadecimal is 64. It will take a few moments for the computer to find, when it appears double left click the mouse on Compact Check Count 6. Then enter 0 as the value data and press OK 7. The easiest way may be to create a playlist for your iPhone on the PC using iTunes. Then after connecting your phone, you can select your phone, then music and select the playlist you created. After this, you will only need to make additions or deletions to the playlist in iTunes on the PC. Then every time you sync your phone, the changes will be made for you automatically. [JAWS-Users] Can JAWS read the strength of my internet connection
Hi Everyone, I have JAWS 13, Windows 7 and Word 2010. I am using the Windows key and the letter B to see if I am connected to the internet. Is there another JAWS command to tell me how many bars I have on my screens display, or the strength of my internet connection? Right now, I have been having some problems with my internet provider and I would like to report back to them when I loose connection. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Kelby, the instructions I posted do not give you unformatted text. Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Text in Firefox
With all do respect, everyone is simply trying to assist and the CTRL alt v also allows you to coppy formatted text as is, unformatted text and html. Since you are pasting from the web, and want to preserve the formatting, I would select that option, the html option to see if that'll meet your expectation. If unsuccessful, I'd say just do it using IE since IE works in this case, and not ff. If firefox is not working for you and you are more successful completing this task, why stick to using ie for this task. [JAWS-Users] Strange MS Word Reading Issue
All, I have used Kurzweil 1000 to OCR a PDF document and make it an RTF file. I am reading that RTF file in MS Word. For some reason, JAAWS will read the word at the end of a line combined with the word at the beginning of the next line. The two words will sound like one word. So, just as an example, if the words "of" and "the" are separated by a line break, then JAWS will read the word as "ofthe". This seems to be a problem with only RTF files of this kind, but I'm not sure what's causing it. Unfortunately I do need these documents to be in RTF, as otherwise for whatever reason the footnotes will not be properly converted. Word inserts code that I can't always isolate and identify. For example, I may have what looks like a two-return break, but when I delete what I assume is one of the return characters, it remains a two-line break. Sometimes I figure out that the culprit is the character called a vertical tab. I wish I could search for that character and replace it, but I haven't worked out how to, despite having done some online research. In any event, once an errant code enters a document, it can cause JAWS to behave unpredictably. I'm in the habit now of checking each time I start inserting text into the middle of a document. Sometimes I refresh the screen with JAWS key+escape. I'm not sure if that solves the problem, but I do think the action causes JAWS to pause and take a breather. Does it matter which Paste method you use? If you type Shift-F10 from within your document and read the context menu, you'll find a list of paste options. You can paste the text alone without formatting, merge the formatting with what is in the current document, preserve the original formatting, etc. Adrian Sprattwrote: > The times I most often encounter this problem are when I've copied text from > other sources into a document. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
The times I most often encounter this problem are when I've copied text from other sources into a document. JAWS does have a tendency to get hyperactive. JAWS 17, Win7, no braille display. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of The Iowa Gal Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2016 6:09 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own Hi there, Just a few days ago I had this happen as I was writing a short document in Note Pad. I had a half-baked theory that I was inadvertently hitting some key on my Braille display that was causing the cursor to jump, but I just don't know. Are you using a Braille display when this text jumping happens to you? If anyone else has seen this behavior, I'd like to hear about your experience. Maybe we can figure out what's going on and report it to FS or whatever the heck they're calling themselves these days. Wayne, I'm afraid this is not very helpful, but I know exactly what you are talking about because it has happened to me too and not just in Word. I've had the same thing happen in Outlook.
