Jaws crashes on me 2 or 3 times a day but I have never needed to do a hard shut
down. I can just wait, which may be 2 or 3 minutes and Jaws will start up
again. I do notice that Jaws appears in the sys tray more than once after it
restarts. Using Jaws 18, Windows 7 and MS Office 2013. I also notice that

Has your job received any automatic updates for Windows from Microsoft lately?

I've noticed since a recent Windows 10 March update that JAWS 18 no
longer reads the message body for the default Mail app in the Virtual
Viewer window. You have to switch to Caret browsing for it to
somewhat work now.

Also after the most recent cumulative Microsoft Windows 10 update
JAWS v18 crashes a lot when I use Internet Explorer v11 to browse the web.

Believe we're voicing our anger at the wrong people. FS is doing the
best they can to keep up. It's hard when MS just does massive changes
to their own OS without warning, and these changes break JAWS a lot
of the time.

Jaws has crashed for me in similar fashion off and one since 18 came out in
August and only way some times to make things work right is to push the
button on the computer. That said, I also had similar problems occasionally
but not as often in 16 and 17. Windows 7 and 10. Usually I have Outlook
2010 open along with other apps such as IE sometimes have not reopened
outlook when this happens.

No pattern to it that I can detect, just assumed it was virus scanner one I
can't read well with any Jaws cursors but which I removed once and had
horrible problems including a useless computer. Now I just try to ignore
it.

In truth had this happen in all versions of Jaws from 3.0 forward on
occasion, but not nearly as often as over the past few months.

I can cope with once every few months as opposed to once a day in some cases
lately.

2017-04-01 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Speaking strictly for myself during the most recent two crippling shutdowns
this method failed as something in the jfw hang caused me to not be able to
impact the cursor by using keyboard commands thus even if I got into the
shutdown menu I could not by any means known to man machine or beast move
the cursor off of shutdown nor could I invoke the shutdown that supposedly
had focus. It is a sad sorry state of affairs when it afflicts one and I
never saw it before the most recent build of jfw 18.

Tom,

Another way to shut down or restart your computer when JAWS crashes is by
pressing Windows Key+X, followed by the letter U. At this point, pressing
the letter R will restart the computer and pressing the letter U will shut
your computer down. I am not saying it is a better way, just another way,
and it is always good to have a backup.

I also notice that
Jaws shuts down most often whenever I am using an MS Office product.

do a hard shutdown of the computer, followed by a re-boot.

Definitely not good.

Hi all.

Recently, whilst using JAWS at work, the program has been crashing
unpredictably. Is anyone aware of an issue which could be causing this to
happen? I am currently using JAWS 18.0.2530 and windows 10.

Thanks,

Adam.

2017-04-01 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Really? Oh this is very interesting thank you I'll surely try it for as I
said getting to the shut down menu other ways though successful I still
couldn’t arrow up or down off of shut down to make another selection
successfully. I've seen many crashes from which jfw recovers after a 30
second or so wait but this is a crash of a different panic inducing variety.
I'll let you know if this works should I encounter it again. So have you
seen such crashes as these where the normal means of resurrecting jfw fail
then?
Pin head don't know about that especially if this delivers me from a jam.
Thanks bunches again.

Robin

Hi Robin, the next time that happens, instead of doing a hard shut down.
Press Control+ALT+Delete, in a few seconds Jaws should speak, up arrow to
shut down, press enter, down arrow to the restart, press enter. This is what
I have done in the past to avoid a hard shut down. I hope this helps.

Hi Tom and all,
I can absolutely corroborate tom's experience. It's happened to me twice in
the past week using the most recent build of jfw 18 and Windows 10; and when
it does none of the usual methods for resurrecting jfw work at all. further
even if one can get NVDA or Narrator running while you have speech
navigation is hampered to such a degree that even in the shut down menu you
can't get cursor off shut down and onto restart no matter what you do. It
is bad, very bad indeed. the only way out is a hard shutdown which I so
loathe doing. I haven't been able to pin down a cause for what brings it
about so I can't make it happen at will but when it happens as I said it is
really not nice at all.

JAWS stops occasionally on me, too - using latest build of J17/Win7.
For this reason, I keep J16 live so can have speech. I had a sense that
J18 was not quite up to par for Win7 machines so I've held off until I see an

I have noticed the Jaws crashing issue here as well, using Jaws 18 on my

It seems to happen occasionally when I am exiting out of a Microsoft Word

Exiting out of, and then re-starting Jaws does not seem to help, nor does
the Windows run command.

Very disconcerting, since the only way I seem to be able to get Jaws back is
to do a hard shutdown of the computer, followed by a re-boot.

Definitely not good.

Hi all.

Recently, whilst using JAWS at work, the program has been crashing
unpredictably. Is anyone aware of an issue which could be causing this to
happen? I am currently using JAWS 18.0.2530 and windows 10.

Thanks,

Hi,

JAWS and IE11 both crash a lot when I am using IE especially when I have
lots of tabs open at the same time. Is JAWS making IE crash more? I get
multiple crashes throguhout the day. Sometimes I can restart IE and carry on
what I'm doing, but other times JAWS crashes as well and I can't get it to
restart without restarting the PC. My computer fan also starts wirring at a
higher speed when this happens.

Are you using 16? Windows Update recently sent us an incremental upgrade on IE
10, and it's as glitchy as all get out. The JAWS cursor is finicky on our
major Internet apps, and I had three IE crashes yesterday. I am proud to
report that JAWS stayed up through all three (something that hasn't happened in
a long time. It crashed unilaterally twice, but recovered both times with no
intervention from me. Understand that we here have what I lovingly call the
software setup from Hell, so if 16 can stand up to what we dish out, it's good.

Hi,

JAWS and IE11 both crash a lot when I am using IE especially when I have lots
of tabs open at the same time. Is JAWS making IE crash more? I get multiple
crashes throguhout the day. Sometimes I can restart IE and carry on what I'm
doing, but other times JAWS crashes as well and I can't get it to restart
without restarting the PC. My computer fan also starts wirring at a higher
speed when this happens.

Hi everyone

I am having trouble with JAWS crashing all the time. Apparently a JAWS file
comes up on the screen saying that JAWS has stopped working and it can go
online to find a solution.

Any advice to solve this would be gratefully received.

I hope I'm not the only one with this issue. If not, I hope that some of you

will not escalate it. At random times, outlook 2010 will stop responding.
When this happends, jaws stops speeking and will not allow me to do

2012-12-04 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
I do not think it has anything to do with amount of RAM. I think that it
has to do with some aspect of the interaction between JAWS and Outlook.
For me, it doesn't happen often, and the occurrence seems to be random,
when opening up a message. I am not sure if the size of the message, or
the client that was used to send the message has anything to do with it.

Hello everyone,

I hope I'm not the only one with this issue. If not, I hope that some of you
report it also. FS Tech support tells me that they can't reproduce it and will
not escalate it. At random times, outlook 2010 will stop responding.
When this happends, jaws stops speeking and will not allow me to do anything.
The only way to get things working again, I have to kill jaws using the dump
command and reload. Sometimes, I even have to restart the system to get it Jaws
working right. Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks,

Geovanni
